PremierePro4 Help with Capture Video Compression Options

Last week I started converting my old VHS tapes using a Canopus ADVC 110 box, a Mac with OSX 10.4.11, and PremierePro 4.0.0.
Everything went fine until last night when I lost my compression choices in Premiere - Capture Settings - Video - Compression.
Previously I had numerous compression type options and was using either DVCPro or DVCPro50. There were also many others available.
Now, I only see DVCPro50 when my Canopus is attached as the source. If I remove the Canopus my iSight becomes the source and its only compression type is Y'CbCr 4:2:2 - uyvy.
Thus far, I restarted and replugged everything, verified permissions, and unloaded and reloaded Premiere. None of that works.
I suspect there is something running interference somewhere that I need to delete or reset.

I am also not sure how Mac OS updates affect other things, but on the PC, they can kill a video driver, or an audio driver instantly, and often do. However, those PC-specific behaviors should have zero impact on your options drop-downs going missing. I was just thinking aloud there.
I'm trying to think of what else might have changed, as when something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed, and the task is to find out what it was.
I know that iTunes usually also updates QT, and that is why I do not allow it to update, until I am positive that the PC version of QT is a good one with Adobe products - not all have been, so I am skitterish.
On the PC, QT loves to install and go and seize the file associations of everything that it can play, unless one does a manual install. I wonder if QT Player was also installed with your iTunes? Also not sure how a Mac does the file type association linking, but on the PC, if certain programs loose their file associations, then strange things can happen. I assume that you are doing your Capture to MOV (you probably said in the OP, but I've forgotten), so I wonder if QT has messed with the file type. Wish I could tell you where to even start, but I cannot. No one ever lets me near their Mac's, as all PC-users are bad joux-joux!

I please need help with embedding videos from youtube. I do this via the Web panel (not the video panel) and copied the embed code on Youtube and pasted it into my Indesign CS6 (autoplay activated). Are you sure, that you changed code from youtube?
Code from youtube is:

but you need to change it to

For us, best result is to embed video via:
menu Object > Include HTML (don't know exact english name of menu), paste iframe code with correct http link and then it works.

Help with flash video buffering

I need help with flash video buffering. I've created a
buffering graphic to show up when the clip is loading. The problem
that I'm having is that when the video finishs playing, the buffer
is empty and the graphic pops back on. The following is the code

I put the script folder into the root. As far as the .flv
file it is showing up as being "put" to my web server. when i
checked the root folder it is there. again i am having the same
problem.. the local view works but when i check it on the web it
just shows that there should be a flash video there but it does not
show up.

Need Help With Capturing

I have a canon HV20 and i want capture some clips but it does not let me do it. it says can't activate the recorder try resetting the camera.

The message you get seems to point that you have set in the settings-tab of the capture window "DV" as format and not "HDV" - or vice versa (depending what video-clips you have recorded on the camera-tape).
A-Procedure
1. What video-clips are on your camera-tape you wish to capture? DV or HDV? Say here for example HDV:
2. Start premiere and ensure that you setup a project to HDV (or DV; see 1.)
3. After connecting via firewire the camera to the PC set the HV20 to PLAY!
4. Press F5 which shows the capture window
5. Select the Tab "Settings"
6. In the "Capture settings" select "Edit..." and select now the correct format HDV (or DV) and select OK
7. In the Area "Device control" select "Options..."
8. Ensure the following settings: PAL - Canon - Standard - Non Drop-Frame (or in the case of NTSC: NTSC - Canon - Standard -Auto detect)
9. Select "Check Status": If the camera is correct connected to the PC and there is the correct HDV-tape in it then the status "Online" should be shown.
B-Further Checks
If all that does not help You should check:
* Edit > Preferences (especially Audio, Capture and Device Control)
* Project > Project Settings > General ("Capture" must show "HDV")
C-Postscripts
a) I am working with HV20-camera, XP/SP3, Adobe Premiere Pro 4.1, PAL, HDV (sometimes DV) and have no problems with capturing.
b) A last word: If you have HDV and DV-clips on one tape ==> thats not good !! Use one tape either for HDV or DV recording. In the case that there are DV- and HDV-clips on the tape you may get troubles when trying capturing.
c) A last-last word: When recording with the HV20 ensure that you have set correct all camera-settings (especially that concerning DV versus HDV)!
d) If that all can not help you - then I also need much more information!

Help with capturing on final cut

I have been using Final Cut Pro for a couple years and have never had this problem before but now im stumped. When I plug my firewire from the computer into my camera and try to capture it tells me: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presets and try again". So I got into Audio/video settings-then under capture presets and i do have DV NTSC 48 KHz selected. Which i think is what i have always used.
I have used two different firewires with the same result, i can capture into imovie just fine so its not the camera. Also when trying to capture on the bottom of the capture window it says VTR OK which usually means i wont have a problem...i thought.....please help!!!

Is this camera capable of HD? If so, make sure the output settings on the camera are set for SD. Or, conversely, change your capture settings to HD.

I need some help with my video - need to blur some footage.

I was wondering if somebody could help me out with my video. I've got some video footage downloaded from the internet (with permission, of course) and I was wondering if there is any way I could blur the clip and then have it slowly fade into focus. I know how to blur the video (the Gaussian blur effect), but I basically want it to look like I've filmed the footage myself and I'm slowly turning the focus wheel until the image is in focus.
Obviously it's quite easy to do in-camera but for my film I needed footage of animals and wasn't able to film any of my own so I needed to source footage online. It's really imperative to my production that I get this blur thing working so if anyone can please explain to me the easiest way to do it then I would be extremely thankful! (That's if it is possible at all... I sure hope so)
I've searched online but so far I've only been able to find videos explaining how to blur a small section of the image (e.g. blurring out logos, faces, etc)

For what you want to do, the 'Camera Blur' effect (Windows only)
will work much better than Gaussian Blur.
Add the effect to the clip (or to an Adjustment Layer above to the clip),
then use keyframes to change the amount of blur over a specified
period of time.

Help with capturing VHS onto the FCP drive

Hello, I'm a new (novice) G-5 FCP user and I'm trying to attempt to capture video through my VHS player (from the VHS Tape) and dub it into my new Panasonic PVGS31 mini dv camera, or if possible, bypass the dubbing to mini dv and capture the video straight into the G-5 using the dv camera. I tried to connect the av adapter to the back of the VCR, but no luck...can anyone advise on what to do. I keep spending more and more money at the dubbing house putting VHS onto mini dv and that's got to stop.

First off, make sure you're using the correct cable(s) to connect the VHS VCR to your camcorder and that you've connected to the correct outputs on the VCR as well as the right inputs on your camcorder. I know its a simple thing, but sometimes its easy to get the INs and OUTs crossed up.
Next, make sure your camcorder is set for the proper line input. Usually its a menu setting while in VTR mode. Now here's the important part; if your camcorder can pass through an analog signal to its digital output, you should be able to capture directly with FCP without dubbing to tape first. But be aware that not all camcorders have this capability. If yours doesn't, just go ahead and dub to DV tape first then capture the new DV tape with FCP.
Of course, you'll need to have the Firewire port of your camcorder connected to your Mac, and assuming your camcorder is compatible with FCP you should be good to go.

What exactly is this "AV Adapter" you're referring to? Most all VCRs will have an RCA output jack for video and one (mono) or two (stereo) for audio. You connect these to your camcorder's line input jacks.

Trouble with capturing video from Firewire

We're having some trouble capturing video using Final Cut Express HD. We purchased a new Apple FireWire, but are still being told nothing is being read. The camera we're using is a Canon HV20 High-def cam. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

yes,the sound appear to be the same too when i play on the pc
the noisy sound came from the loudspeaker outlet,

Help with syncing video to my iPhone

ok, so heres the deal. i downloaded a few episodes of a show that were already in .mp4 and so i added them into itunes and they show up whenever you hit the movies tab on the left side of the screen but then whenever i went to add them to my telephone through the iphone sync part then they werent there. so then i went and uninstalled and redownloaded and then installed itunes. then, the videos showed up under video tab in the tv shows section on the iphone sync screen and then whenever i click them to sync them then it tells me that they are not in the right format. so then i used the itunes converter thing to convert the video and then it did its thing and the resulting video is a completely white screen with no video at all whatsoever. id really apreciate if someone could help me figure this out because im getting very frustrated with it lol.

My first guess is you're simply generating an error. You'll always want to load this on your device in quick debugging over USB so you can see any errors you're generating.
Outside that, if you plan on accessing anything inside the SWF you should be loading the SWF into the correct context. Relevant sample code:

If you're doing this on iOS you'll need to stripped SWFs if you plan on using any coding (ABC) inside the files. You mentioned iOS so I won't get into that here, but just incase, here's info on stripping external SWFs:

AUR helper with download/build only option ?

Currently I have a cron job that does this:
pacman -Syuw --noconfirm
This downloads all packages and put it in the cache in the background, this way when a run an upgrade I just have to validate.
I would like to have the same for AUR packages. Is anyone aware of a AUR helper with a "download+build" only option ?

pacaur (which uses cower) supports a -d flag to download only, and a -m flag to download and build. The -d flag will pull down dependencies. I'm quite happy with pacaur+cower as a day to day solution, $0.02.
EDIT: sorry I meant the -m flag pulls down deps -- to do it with the -d flag you have to specify it twice. </bourbon>

Help with a video intro on my home page

Hello, I can use some help or suggestions with a video intro

I converted to the swf format using Allok Video to FLV Converter.
The file is 650k and downloads painfully slow on dial up
connections. Can anyone help me cut the file size or tell me if I
embedded it correctly.

Each button displays the same text with html tacked on as the button except for the Home page of course. What should the text be?
