ok turn it off manually and turn it back on while holding the apple logo bottor or the function botton this will give you an option to choose if you want to startup with osx ow windows. let me know if this works

The cursor in my CS4 has turned into three different "figures" in line. This makes the program almost impossible to use and I cannot fin a way to come back to the normal "cross" again.

That isnt water... but it isnt much better.
Sounds to me like one of the LCD crystals burst.
Unfortunately that would void your warranty with most every carrier. but all hope is not lost.
You can buy a new LCD display and swap them. its not really that hard either (kinda fun if you like to tinker)

Fill command no longer works, has turned into Grow

I've been scouring sites for a solution and have not found one as of yet. My Edit/Fill command (shift + F5) has suddenly turned into Grow. I've seen other people with this problem and the only solution I have seen up to now is to use (shift + delete) instead. That to me isn't a solution, it completely disrupts my workflow to try using a new key command that should be something else. I've also read about people deleting preferences, restarting, etc, and I've tried all of those things. I did have some issues with my Function keys because of something I had clicked in my finder preferences but I fixed that issue, and it seems that only Photoshop has lingering problems. And of course, my PSD keyboard shortcuts all look fine, nothing has changed there so something is overriding the keyboard shortcuts. Could it be something in my Photoshop preferences that I'm overlooking?
Any help that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

So you are absolutely certain that the keyboard shortcut is assigned under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts?
Could it have been usurped by an Action?
Did you get the dialog when you trashed the prefs?

My "Documents" icon in the dock has turned into a question mark.

On my MacBook Air my documents icon has disappeared and turned into a question mark. The icons have also disappeared within my Documents folder and some of the applications folders. Where did they go and how can I get them back?

Where they went is a good question, and not one we can answer without a lot more information. However, the Dock is pretty resilient at finding things like this if they are accidentally moved into another folder. So, unfortunately, I'd have to guess that it has been deleted. If that is the case, your question about getting them back can only be answered with another question: do you have backups?

My photoshop has turned into a 30 day trial after upgrading my account to a package with lightroom included!? what is going on?

I have been subscribed to a Photoshop CC only package since 2013, and a friend of mine pointed out that i was paying too much, and i should at least have Lightroom included. So i checked it out, asked some questions at the (Probably a bot) chat service, before i knew it there it was, my option to upgrade to a package with photoshop and Lightroom (Bridge included)

30,000 photos has turned into 118,000 after importing from ext hd

When I upgraded from iPhoto 9 to iPhoto 11 I lost all my tags, faces,locations, titles, etc. I restored the library from an ext HD which had most of the "old" data. It has morphed into eight or ten face photos of the same person/same shot. As you might expect, this has slowed down everything on my computer. Is there an easy way to banish the dups?

Yes. The trick is +never import an iPhoto Library to another one+. To update a library simply open it with the new version. So redo that restore and just open the Library with 11.

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.

Pictures folder has turned into a package!

I'm hoping someone may be able to help with a strange problem. My Pictures folder has transformed itself into a 'package' and wants an application to open it, but there isn't an option to select the finder! I can open it by right clicking and everything is there, but it isn't accessible from 'Image Capture' or for iphoto, which appears to have started a new library for itself, perhaps mistaking the 'picture' package for the library as there are files in there which are usually in the iphoto package. Is there any way to tell the folder not to be a package any more??? It seems to have happened after I restarted the computer (which I did because there were some photo files in the trash which I couldn't empty, and restarting sorted that!!)

Installed OS X Mavericks on Ext HD, now 1TB HD has turned into 566GB HD

Hi everyone, as the title suggests, I installed OS X Mavericks on my computer, ended up messing up my internal HD saying it was unrepairable. Did everything suggested (Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, Tech Tool Pro), but no dice. Every program says I need to copy all my info off the HD and reformat. Thanks Mavericks.
So I ended up installing OS X Mavericks on my external 1TB HD, in order to get into the OS and retrieve the info off my internal HD, which I was able to do. However, a knock on effect seems to be that after I installed OS X Mavericks on that external HD, the data that was previously on that external HD is now missing, and the once 1 TB HD has a "capacity" now of 533 GB. I checked Disk Utility and only one visible partition (at 533GB). It indicates the Total Capacity at 1 TB in the bottom right corner, but that's the only place I've seen that indicates a capacity of 1 TB. I have a feeling it's something to do with the file system, but that goes beyond my nerd ability to fix.
Prior to installing the OS on the external HD, my laptop had no problem reading and writing on the external HD.

Well that's the thing. That external drive has my OS X on it as I'm using it as a lifeboat to run my mac.
I may have effed myself, but I went into Disk Utility, clicked on the external drive, and under "partition information", where it read 533 GB, I simply changed it to 1000GB and hit apply, thinking that this might open up the rest of my missing info. The prompt that came up said it wasn't going to erase anything so I felt safe trying this. So this freed up the rest of the 1 TB HD, but I have a sneaky feeling that this may have erased whatever content was hidden / on a different file system (if that was the problem). Can anybody shed any light on this? Did I screw myself?? When you expand the partition, does it completely erase anything that was in that space before? (ie if it wasn't showing up because it could have been under a different file system?)
On a related note, if I installed Mavericks on this external drive, could that action have resulted in the erasing / formatting of that drive??

Firefox has turned into a blackhole and is COMPLETELY unresponsive. I can't restart my computer and force quit doesn't do anything. Please Help

No article or FAQ on this website is even moderately relevant to this seemingly unsolvable problem.

All the articles pose solutions that require you to perform an action within Firefox; which isn't very helpful, given that my Firefox window is a black rectangle with a white box in the middle.
It might also be helpful to know that this "blackhole" occurred when I was about to view a YouTube video..
Any other suggestions?
