Prepaid Account Question

What is the down side to having a prepaid account? That 2 year contract was the only thing I hated about the iPhone. Thanks!

What is the down side to having a prepaid account?
That 2 year contract was the only thing I hated
about the iPhone. Thanks!
I've been in contracts for the past 4 years and found myself never used up all the minutes to justify what I paid for. So I went with Gophone this time. It turns out that $29 voice call + $4.99 200 SMS is more than enough for my normal usage.
With my iPhone, I only pay about $10 more than what I used to. Having to pay 10$ for unlimited data is a pretty good deal imo.
So the upsides would be
1. Paying less each month than postpaid plan IF you have light phone usage. That is $29+$19 (+$4.99 for 200 SMS), comparing to the $59 entry level plan.
2. No need to pay activation fee, which is $36 on the first billing cycle.
3. FREEDOM! You can cancel whenever you want. As the iPhone get unlock, you can then... cough..
BUT the downside is this
You will get these nagging message reminding you how much money you have in your balance, even when you're not doing anything that would count toward it. You will get the most stupid messages saying that your last transaction costs you $0 every 10-20 mins!!!
AT&T CSR told me last time I called that they're working on it and this is the #1 issue that they heard of from prepaid customers. Apple does acknowledge this problem as well. So let's cross our fingers and hope we will get this fix in the next update.

  • How do I purchase a prepaid phone to upgrade my existing prepaid account?

Round and round I have gone with in-store, online chat, and live calls to get an answer to this question.  I have an existing prepaid account which I recently upgraded to the 4G LTE prepaid plan.  No problem with them taking my money there.  My present phone is 3G and I want to purchase a 4G (specifically LG Lucid 3), and UPDATE, was just told by prepaid customer dis-service that I need to wait until my present month is almost over or I will forfeit a month's payment.  Isn't that just grand?  I enrolled in auto-pay to take advantage of the extra 500 MB, so I suppose I'll have to drop that and wait.  Anyone else experienced this used car sales tactic?  Thank you Verizon for another 2 hours of my life gone.  Too bad they are the only game in town around here.  Sign me disgusted!

  • Verizon keeps deleting my prepaid account

I have an iPad that needs wireless service only when I travel. When I bought the iPad I was told it was possible to turn service on and off at will. When I tried to add it to my postpaid phone account I was told no, you can't just turn off service and turn it back on again. They suggested a prepaid plan. So a couple of times I have activated the prepaid plan but when I suspend service (I'm not traveling) after a while, they delete my entire account. It seems the only way to reactivate is call and spend a lot of time on the phone or go into a store (usually not convenient). The last time this happened I had to do both --- spent several hours trying to get the iPad reactivated. What is going on here? I can understand that phone numbers cost them money and they may want to reclaim the number after a few months of inactivity (although it's quaint that a device that is not a phone requires a number) but why delete the whole account?
The last time this happened it took them about six months to delete the account. But this time my account was inactive (unpaid) for only a week, and they deleted it just minutes after I had a very confusing and frustrating chat with Verizon, where I asked if they could turn on the account for just a day (the daily plan) later in the week. She said that couldn't be done. I had to call on the day I want service. Coincidence, or did she delete the account to get back at me for leaving her a poor review?
After years of expecting generally excellent customer service from the postpaid said, I am so surprised at all the difficulties with working with a prepaid plan. I've had the following problems:
It's difficult to find an agent, online, in a store, or on the phone who knows what's going on with prepaid.
The $5 daily plan, though advertised, does not show up as an option (when my account is worki5ng).
The website is confusing. For example, when you want to make a payment to renew your plan for another month, the option you have to choose is "Add a New Plan"
I thought I had turned on auto renew but it didn't. Could be my bad memory.
The My Verizon app doesn't work on the iPad. I always says "Service temporarily unavailable. Try again later."
Logging in through Settings/General/Cellular Data/My Account doesn't work. It insists on an email login, which I don't use for either my postpaid or prepaid account.
Can't log in to my verizon website on Safari on the iPad. Can only log in on the computer.
Give me a break. Spend an hour or more on the phone to turn on service for a day? On that day? And they make $5?? How much do they pay their agents to do this?

Hi, I'll try to answer a few of your questions:
I can understand that phone numbers cost them money and they may want to reclaim the number after a few months of inactivity (although it's quaint that a device that is not a phone requires a number) but why delete the whole account?
Ok, your iPad got a phone number, even if you don't use it as a phone. Why? because that's the way their system handle the information. Usually to lose an account you have 3 months without making a payment.
Coincidence, or did she delete the account to get back at me for leaving her a poor review?
Could be, especially if you were rude. But I guess this was a rethorical question, no one can know the real answer.
How much do they pay their agents to do this?
To do what? deal with you? that's included on their salary. Maybe they should get a rise...
Maybe you could see if Verizon got a plan easy  to mantain, example by paying 5$ monthly or something and you'll avoid all those inconvenients.
    Have a good day

  • Prepaid account balance notification after i send a text or when i recieve one?

Because i have a prepaid account, after i send a text message i get a notification of my account balance and what the last transaction cost. I have att/cingular...
My question is....Is there any possible way to turn the sound off when i get this notification?
I've tried every possible thing i know how to do...I've turned the sound off on my phone and it still "beeps".
    I have a blackberry pearl 8100.
    Please help!!!

Nope, no way. ATT is going to send those and I "think" they come via SMS.
You would need to either disable your SMS notifications.
Or maybe create an exception in the profiles so that only SMS from ATT are silent, but I don't think this is possible.

  • Unable to activate new phone on my prepaid account

I have a replacement phone to add to my existing prepaid account. I followed the directions via the phone number to activate it online. However, I get a message "My Verizon is temporarily unavailable as we work to improve our system to serve you better. We apologize, please try again later".  I have been trying this for several hours.  There was no Live help available for prepaid customers. So I contacted Live help via the sales page (knew they'd be there). They sent me to prepaid customer service (supposedly), but after waiting online for 5 minutes, I was informed by that rep that she could not access a prepaid account and gave me a second phone number to try. I asked if this would connect me with a person and she said yes.  However, it sent me to an automated message that gave me 2 choices- go back to main menu or hang up!  So, I dialed the 3rd phone number- provided in my phone's manual.  Entered my current number, phone MEI & SIM numbers and it automated response says that it was sending me to a customer service rep- then I get a message that I was disconnected and needed to redial that number- which I didn't have!  Worst most ineffective, fraudulent service I have ever encountered.  I have funds sitting in my prepaid account being held by Verizon and cannot activate the new phone with my existing number.  How do I activate this phone? If my only option is going to a service center- then Verizon should be telling existing customers that instead of deliberately giving out the wrong information.

It doesn't.  I was able to load in phone information(MEI/ SIM) and the prompt said it was sending me to a customer service rep, but it disconnected and I only got a message saying to redial that number (that I was robo- forwarded to).
I have attempted online, live chat, called *611, *22898, 555-294-6804, 866-893-7723, and 877-777-5759. Nothing works.  Will head to verizon center and have them clear phone so I can return. Will probably switch to a new carrier and another new phone.

  • Why does dialing *100# (to check prepaid account balance) work from dialer but not from contacts?

    Hello,
to check my prepaid account balance, I can dial *100# and my carrier sends me back a message with the balance information. I used to save this number under my contacts in my "feature phone" and it worked great.
With the ZTE Open from Movistar (Spain), dialing the number from the dialer works, I get the requested message. However, when I save this number under my contacts and I dial it from there, I don't get the requested message.
From the dialer, it doesn't really dial but sends information to the carrier which sends information back. From within the contacts, it seems to be treated as a phone number which is not recognized, and I get some sort of busy tone back.
Can this be settled in some way? This would be very convenient! I guess this is true for the complete target group of FFOS.
    Cheers

Going through contacts would probably take just as long as Dialing, But in this case i think it is to do with your Service Provider not the phone itself.
Remember Mozilla only make the OS it is probably your Provider that is making it do that.

  • I just change phones on my prepaid account and....

I just switched phones on my prepaid account because my old one was defective, and now when I try placing a call it keeps telling me that I don't have enough money on my account to place the call. My account just renewed my plan this past weekend, please help.

  • Prepaid plan question

I purchased a $35 prepaid monthly plan for my father back in WVA..  Why do some calls deduct from anytime minutes of 500 & one number, 713.725.xxxx shows up as a roam call, .20 per minute?  I had him do *228 option 1 to update prl.
He can call me & other #s w/ no roaming costs. Do certain area codes hit different towers & cause this roaming fee?  I don't care about the .20 cent fee, just want to know how Verizon bills calls.
    Thanks kindly..

  • LG Cosmos 2...can i activate it with a prepaid account?

I used to have this phone when I had a plan, but its just been sitting in my drawer collecting dust since I cancelled. Now I would like to activate it for a prepaid plan, but it wont let me call to activate it from the phone itself. Is it even possible to use the existing number for a prepaid account after that plan has been cancelled?

We would welcome the opportunity for you to start service with us again, thugmama. Most phones can be converted over to a prepaid plan, but we may not be able to get you the same number you previously had. Did he make the purchases while logged into the iTunes Store account under which he redeemed the card? You can confirm the account used by selecting the track in iTunes and doing a Get Info on it (File menu). The account used to purchase the track will be shown on the Summary pane.

  • Droid and prepaid account

i dont have verison yet but i want to and i have a verison droid phone and want to know if i could use the droid for my phone if i got a prepaid account..
    thanks,
    Kaylar

Hi there, kimsworld! Thanks for inquiring about equipment eligibility for prepaid accounts. Although our prepaid services are an excellent value, they do not yet support 4G LTE-capable devices. I recommend a postpaid account for your Droid RAZR Maxx. You can review those plans at this link: http://vz.to/W24dla . You can also choose a different device for use with a prepaid account. Prepaid devices are listed at this link: http://vz.to/17RaybE .

  • GoPaid prepaid account balance alerts

So I opted to use the the prepaid monthly service plans because it's the only way you can stay out of a 2-year contract.
However, anytime I use email, the browser, SMS, or make a call, I get an alert screen telling me how much of my prepaid account I have left to use. Is there a way to turn that off?

I am seeing these alerts even at hours when I've not used the iPhone. This must be a glitch. I left the iPhone on overnight and had to dismiss around 30 of these alerts this morning. It clearly drains the battery—yesterday morning I woke up to about 85% of battery strength remaining, whereas this morning only about 40% remained. I had to recharge today after only 4 hours and 45 minutes of battery use. I know that all AT&T prepaid phones show these alerts after usage (SMS, phone, etc.) and I don't have a problem with that. In fact, it's kind of cool. But I think Apple & AT&T have to revisit the battery issue in future revisions. It's annoying to have alerts at all hours of the day and night (when you haven't been using your phone) that remind you of your balance! In any case, going the prepaid route has been fantastic, I highly recommend it.
