Prepaid on contract

I broke my phone I have on a contract but do not have the money for the insurance. Can I use a prepaid phone on my contract?

You cannot go to Target or BestBuy and buy a prepaid phone in a box and use it on your line if this is your question. These devices are locked for prepay service only until they have completed a minimum of 180 activated days.
You are better off either borrowing the money for your deductible, if possible, or seeing if someone you know has a device that you can activate.

  • US prepaid/no contract plan for Unlocked iPhone 5 - AT&T only option?

I am only in the USA for 2 months of the year. I plan to use the unlocked iPhone 5 I just purchased from Apple in other countries and it will be easy to do so with several prepaid options, no contracts.
In the USA, it's not easy.
I keep reading on-line that you can use T-Mobile prepaid, no contract, with the Unlocked iPhone 5, but three different T-Mobile reps have confirmed to me that you can, but only with their 2 year contract.
I've also read that you can use Straight Talk, but they have assured me that they do not support the nano sim card in the iPhone 5. I've read you can cut the other SIM card down to fit, but I'd rather not do that (unless it's very easy and it really works- true or not?).
Is AT&T the only option for an unlocked iPhone 5 if you do NOT want to be locked into a longer-term plan? They quoted me $85 per month for 1 GB of data/free wifi, $36 activation fee, and once you stop renewing month-to-month you have to start over with the activation fee. I've also read that there are problems with this plan, but I don't recall what they are.
Is this the only option? If so, I may return my iPhone 5. Not worth it.

Thanks. I searched for the problem on macrumors and there's a ton of conflicting information. Some say they use Straight Talk with a filed down SIM card, many say that didn't work for them. Not many posts about the factory unlocked iPhone 5 prepaid/no contract options.
I called Apple again and they could not give me any information about which carriers serve the unlocked iPhone 5 for prepaid/no contract. Odd. You'd think they would know if they're selling the phone unlocked!
I'm probably going to return it.

  • Prepaid vs Contract service

Is there a difference in service for Prepaid and Contract plans?I was told by a store Rep that Prepaid speeds are slower, call quality is lower, coverage is significantly less and, when the system starts getting overloaded, Prepaid customers are the first to be cut loose.

Welcome.  As far as I can tell, I searched my area, the LA area, and the US at large, and saw that the biggest difference is in small fringe areas on the perimeter of the strongest areas, meaning prepaid gets very little less than contract.  The only other difference between the two is that the postpaid plans have many more features and are eligible for data promos where the prepaid/loyalty/individual lines are not.  (except the auto-pay on prepay promo for a little extra data)

  • Prepaid to Contract?

Is there a way to stop using prepaid and change to a contract plan, but keep the same number? I've already had to change my number a few times for different reasons and I would like to keep the same one, but it would be more feasible for me to have a contract plan instead of prepaid.

Yes you can change to a contract as long as you have been a prepaid customer for at least 6 months. And yes you will beable to keep your same phone number.

  • Student eligibility date ending before 12 month contract

If I am no longer a student before my 12 month prepaid CC contract is over, will Adobe discontinue my access to CC?

    Hi setefano
You will have access for the duration of the membership - it won't be discontinued.
    Thanks

  • Prepaid Broadband for MBP

Found no answer to this in the original 2-year-old thread, so here I am to rehash it.
Will be traveling next month to an un-wired household here in the US. I've seen ReadyBroadband & VirginBroadband2Go prepaid (no contract) USB devices, but they seem to work only on PCs. Any Mac-friendly alternatives?
I have a 3G Blackberry Curve through AT&T but don't know if tethering is an option or would be better. I'm a geek in terms of web usage, but I'm not a hardware geek so please advise as if speaking to a newbie. Thanks.

Thank you, Jason. Fortunately, I have access to plenty of PCs at work, so (it appears) I could initialize the USB that way. Then it sounds as if the next time I plug into my MBP, it may be recognized. I hate to pay so much for the USB device only to find out I'm one of the unlucky ones. Still, this is a helpful direction as I missed this thread entirely in my search. Thanks.

  • Why can't I use Galaxy SII here??

Am looking at 'Straight Talk' offered by Wal-Mart via Verizon. I would not be able to use a Galaxy SII in the Montana area...but could in Dallas Texas...why?
I understand there are 4 different types of towers- I CAN use a Galaxy SII in Montana with AT&T, and also in Dallas.
Why not in Montana with Verizon?
    Thanks
ps I prefer to use the prepaid/no contract types, as I move to different areas frequently as I am a 'traveler' in the medical field.

There is no galaxy s2 that is compatible with Verizon's network.

  • How do EDGE charges work/where do I look for itemized billing GoPhone Pic

How do EDGE charges work/where do I look for itemized billing. I have the GoPhone Pick Your Plan. The AT&T _phone call_ charges are clearly itemized on line at AT&T.
Can I view the charges for the Media Net Unlimited feature package? I have connected to WiFi at the local coffee shop. I have connected briefly to a local TV weather page while using EDGE. I fear the twenty or thirty dollar charges I have read about if I do any serious use of Safari while using EDGE.
I have explored this on the following:
    http://www.lindenlan.net/2007/08/15/prepaid-vs-contract-att-gophone-or-nation-pl an/
    and
    http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/24/prepaid-data-packages-and-the-iphone/
and both suggest I will be thoroughly reamed unless I am on a WiFi hot spot.
Every time I read the word "Unlimited" in my unlimited Media Net package there is the dreaded double asterisk "**" and the warning "additional per minute charges apply.
I don't see a charge for my maiden foray onto the internet using EDGE to view the weather page at KKTV so where is it. Surly I cannot use EDGE without charges on this turkey plan. Or can I ?

How exciting ! You have gone way beyond the call of duty for me. I appreciate it; thanks. I am so pleased with the iPhone but did not want to spend my life in coffee shops just to use it. Also I need the map function at work to help my customers and we have no WiFi there yet. But looks like I am ok at work on EDGE.
Every other day I was oscillating between being extremely pleased with my purchase and then chastising myself for spending all the money on the service that I was sure would be inadequate. I don't call much and considering how fast things are changing I don't want to be locked into a two year contract though I understand Apple is locked into five years exclusively with AT&T.
I hope good things come your way !

  • Iphone 4 wont send or receive photos

my Iphone 4 wont send or receive photos

What type of carrier you have.. prepaid or contract... if its pre paid att go phone ios 6.0 shuts down picture mms because your technically not suppose to have an iphone with that service..you would have to downgrade to ios 5.1.1.... which i did this morn because i have iphone 3gs and upgraded to ios 6.0 and had same picture problems..

  • Thinking about switching carriers

I've been with AT&T for awhile...it's the only carrier I've ever used. I use the prepaid $60 a month plan. I've been using all of my data within 2 weeks and slowing my phone down. The 4 GB just doesn't seem to be enough for me anymore. My girlfriend and her daughter recently got on a T-mobile plan for $100 a month,2 lines, unlimited everything. I was told I can add a line to their plan for $40 more a month. It's not a prepaid or contract plan. Do yall offer something like this?? I really don't want to leave AT&T....but I gotta do what's best for me. Please email me and let me know how I can get unlimited high speed data at AT&T.[edited for privacy – please do not post personal information]
    . Thanks, Jesse

Don't forget:- cost of new phone if required- different network coverage- sharing financial responsibility with your girlfriend- what if you break up?

  • What is the reason contract phones cannot be used on a prepaid plan?

I originally posted this question in the Basic Phones forum, but I think that may have been the wrong place to ask this.
I am interested in activating a phone on the $50 basic phone prepaid plan, but the phone I tried to activate would not work.  It was the Casio Ravine 2 C781.
I already know that contract phones will not work on the prepaid plan.  I also have already spoken with two customer service reps, and they were helpful, but they could not answer my questions.
What is the actual reason that basic feature contract phones will not work on the prepaid basic plan?  Is it the PTT feature?
The Ravine 2 was new with a clean ESN, and it's just a basic phone.  I don't blame anyone except myself, but I would like to avoid this in the future. btw, I gave the Ravine to my mom and dad who are on a contract plan, and it is working great.
One of the reps I spoke with said that this may change in the near future, and that phones like the Ravine 2 may work on the prepaid plan soon.  Does anyone know if this is true?
To make things more confusing, I just read an older post that states if a contract phone like the Ravine is activated for at least 6 months, it then can be activated on a prepaid plan.  Is there any truth to this?
Finally, I understand that there are some basic flip phones available that I can purchase like the Revere 2 and the Gusto 2, but I prefer the quality of the Ravine 2.  I need the rugged phone capability due to my work environment.
    Thanks for your time.
    Jim

  • How do I port my Verizon Prepaid number to a new Verizon contract?

Right now I have the $35 prepaid plan and I'd like to update to a Maxx HD, which is up on Amazon for $20 with a new contract. However, the Amazon page is telling me that my number is not transferable. I don't know what to do here, can someone help?

I am considering a new post pay account, that was exactly the point of my original post. As I said before, i went to amazon.com, selected a phone, selected a new verizon plan, and put in my current number for a port request (which is with verizon prepaid). Amazon's website informed me that my number cannot be ported, and I don't understand why. So, to recap:
    What I have:
    >a prepaid phone with verizon
    >a number that I want to keep
    What I want:
    >a postpaid account with verizon
    >a razr maxx hd
    >my phone number
    My question:
Why is amazon telling me that my number cannot be ported, when I am going from one plan to another on the same carrier?

  • Hi I Have A Prepaid SmartPhone Right Now With Verizon For About 7-Months So Far. I Have Always Paid On Time No Missed Payments Good Standing Account, I Tried To Switch Over To A 2-Year Contract With Verizon And They Wanted A $400 Deposit For Only 1-Line.

Hi I Have A Prepaid Smart Phone Right Now With Verizon For About 7-Months So Far. I Have Always Paid On Time No Missed Payments Good Standing Account, I Tried To Switch Over To A 2-Year Contract With Verizon And They Wanted A $400 Deposit For Only 1-Line. Is There Anyway I Can Use My Excellent Payment History With There Prepaid Department To Switch To A 2-Year Contract And Not Have To Pay The $400 Deposit. And This Is Due To The Fact I Have No Credit History Whatsoever

Since you have no credit history, my guess is you would need at least a year of on time payments, and I'm not sure a pre-paid account would qualify as you can stop at any time.
You didn't specify your age, but getting started int he credit world is not easy - you may try applying for a gas card, or a credit card, and USE them, pay them off each month - and expect to take a year or more to establish a record.

  • Contract has been up, and thinking of prepaid.

My contact has been completed for 2 years and I am on month to month. My phone is the Casio Brigade. It has lasted longer than any phone i have ever had until recently the text quit working. Tried to connect my back up phone (Moto Razor flip phone) and VZ said I had to get a $10 data plan (**) on a phone that is older than my Brigade. I am thinking of switching to prepaid because I would come out cheaper even with my 20% monthly discount, which is not on my plan below. I am looking at the $60 2 gig and $70 4 gig prepaid plan. They are suppose to be 3G only, but I am not concern with that.
These are my concerns and questions.
    1. Will there be a cancellation fee since my contract has been up for 2 years and do I have to give so many days notice.
    2. Can I take my Phone # with me to prepaid.
    3. I will probably use a Droid bionic or Casio commando on the prepaid. (phones given by friends)
    4. I don't download movies or music. I might listen to Pandora or watch a YouTube video.
    5. I live in a rural area, so VZW and ATT are the only ones that work.
    6. Why the hell, is VZ wanting to charge me $10 data on my older back up phone. By the way I have used this same Moto Razor flip phone before with no extra charge when my original phone broke. So why $10 now?
    7. Asurion wont cover nothing. Always been told wast of money if your phone is to old.
    8. This is my plan. The total is $77.83 or $65 w/ discount. Which has no data, With a 2 gig plan would be almost $100. The prepaid would $60
Thank You. Have a nice day.

    7. Asurion wont cover nothing. Always been told wast of money if your phone is to old. Ok.  Not sure what that has to do with changing your plan to a prepaid one.
