Prepaid Plan Activation Fees

I recently attained an iPhone 4, and activated it on the $60/Month Smartphone plan. I remember having to pay a fee for activating that phone on that plan. I would like to change over to a DROID device, and am wondering if I would have to repay another activation fee to switch devices, yet retain the phone number. Can anybody help?

    Hello sdhartm,
I can absolutely help you with your activation fee question. Activation fees are only charged when you start new service. Changing phones on a number you already have will not incur an activation fee. You can complete the change to a different device on your own by logging on to My Verizon. Have a good afternoon.
Thank you,

I bought a 4G SIM activation kit on the advice of a CS rep, who said I could change out the SIM card on my Verizon Droid X (currently in use with a customer loyalty plan) and switch it to a prepaid plan. But now it appears there is no SIM card to switch out. Google search finds several others have asked that question and the Droid X doesn't have a SIM card, apparently. But, the 4G SIM activation kit "Compatibility" tab claims that it is compatible with the Droid X, so what is the real story here? Do I have to send this kit back to you?

No. Call Apple Care and give them the serial number. They may be able to tell you who it is locked to.

  • AT&T vs Verizon Data Plan for iPad 2 - Activation Fees?

I heard that Verizon has a $35 activation fee everytime you activate the data plan. Is this true?
I am trying to get one where I can activate on a month-to-month basis as I please without paying an activation fee each time. I know that this is the case for AT&T. If Verizon has the activation fee, then this is an easy decision.
    Thanks!

I think the Verizon website is misleading. There is no mention of activation fees, but according to almost every reputable source the fee exists.
I wrote to Verizon customer service earlier in the week to find out from the source. I asked:
    "IF I purchase the Verizon 3G iPad2:
    1. Will I be able to activate/deactivate Verizon service as needed?
    2. Is there an activation fee? If so, how much?
    3. Is the activation fee charged each time service is activated and/or
deactivated? If not, when exactly is the fee charged?"
    They answered:
"You may disconnect the device at anytime. However, if the disconnect is after the 14-day Worry Free Guarantee return/exchange timeframe, then you are liable for an early termination fee. The early termination fee is prorated based on how much of the contract has been completed.
Yes, there is an activation fee for all new lines of service. In your case, the activation fee would be $35. This applies each time that a line activation is requested."
That reads to me as a $35 fee every time you activate service, be it every other month, every three months or whatever.
It may not be a problem for some, but this is a dealbreaker for me. I am getting the AT&T iPad2. It is unfortunate that one iPad cannot handle both services, as that would promote competition.

  • What is the reason contract phones cannot be used on a prepaid plan?

I originally posted this question in the Basic Phones forum, but I think that may have been the wrong place to ask this.
I am interested in activating a phone on the $50 basic phone prepaid plan, but the phone I tried to activate would not work.  It was the Casio Ravine 2 C781.
I already know that contract phones will not work on the prepaid plan.  I also have already spoken with two customer service reps, and they were helpful, but they could not answer my questions.
What is the actual reason that basic feature contract phones will not work on the prepaid basic plan?  Is it the PTT feature?
The Ravine 2 was new with a clean ESN, and it's just a basic phone.  I don't blame anyone except myself, but I would like to avoid this in the future. btw, I gave the Ravine to my mom and dad who are on a contract plan, and it is working great.
One of the reps I spoke with said that this may change in the near future, and that phones like the Ravine 2 may work on the prepaid plan soon.  Does anyone know if this is true?
To make things more confusing, I just read an older post that states if a contract phone like the Ravine is activated for at least 6 months, it then can be activated on a prepaid plan.  Is there any truth to this?
Finally, I understand that there are some basic flip phones available that I can purchase like the Revere 2 and the Gusto 2, but I prefer the quality of the Ravine 2.  I need the rugged phone capability due to my work environment.
    Thanks for your time.
    Jim

  • Can i still use pay as you go plan on a smartphone prepaid plan?

can i still use pay as you go plan on a smartphone prepaid plan?

Yes you can. However, 4G smartphones cannot be activated on prepaid. 3G devices have 3 different available plans. Verizon has an exclusive plan with Walmart which consists of unlimited talk and text with a 1GB for $50. The other 2 plans are unlimited talk and text with 2GB for $60 or 4GB for $70

  • Are Surcharges calculated on total bill amount? including activation fees

Hi, I am trying to find out what my surcharges will be on total $200 total plan cost for everything in arizona.  I got my first bill for $403 and that includes activation fees for 3 lines and also they charged me $42 in surcharges, what can i excpect in surcharges on a normal bill of $200?? if they base there surcharge % on my total bill including activation fees then my next bill at $200 should be much less then $42???

    Hello johnpadock,
TAXES, TAXES, TAXES! No one really likes taxes. I certainly don't but it's a way of life in the U.S. Almost any service that's provided are subject to taxes, including wireless service. As we all know, surcharges vary from state to state as well as city and even zip code. Below is an estimate of what you can expect to pay in surcharges in Maricopa county, which is in Phoenix Arizona. Keep in mind that the percentages below is an estimate and can be subject to change based on location.
Phoenix Transaction Privilege Surcharge on Telecommunication - 4.7%
Phoenix City Transaction Privilege/Gross Receipts Surcharge General Merchandise - 2%
Maricopa County Transaction Privilege Surcharge Telecommunication - .7%
Keep in mind that these are not all of the surcharges but merely a sample of what is factored into a monthly wireless bill. The percentage is calculated from the retail value of the products and services that are listed on the bill. For example, if you have Unlimited Talk & text with a $30 data package then the retail value would be $119.99. Keep in mind all VZW downloads, overages, equipment purchases that's billed to the account and late fees fall into the retail cost range. Simply, multiple the retail value by the percentage and the product.
If you would like a more detailed breakdown of the taxes in your specific area then I would encourage you to call our customer service number so we can provide the breakdown of the taxes in our county, city, and state. Our customer service department can be reached by calling *611 from your Verizon cell phone or 800-922-0204.
    Thank you...

  • Verizon Prepaid plan

Just wanted to express my frustration and anger about Verizon prepaid scam.  I have a prepaid plan for $70 a month.  I was told that all I would pay is $70.  Just went online to pay my monthly payment and they added $7 in taxes and fees.  Why did this just start?  Why now?  Last month my payment was $70.  Verizon wireless is a racket.

I prepay $100 per year and usually forfeit about $80 since I rarely use my phone. It expires after 1 year.
I tried to make a call and received the message tha my balance is $0 and I need to add more money.
I added $100 only to find that my new balance is $179.
Do you think Verizon will refund the last payment?
They gave me a number for prepaid accts. but there was no option for talking with a live agent.
You can't do it through the chat line.

  • Prepaid plan and expiration

Quick questions. I am currently using FiveSpot WIFI device under prepaid plan.
If I add $100 to my account right now, can I use my device without refill at the end of this year?
If I add $100 to my account right now, but I do not use my device for more than 2 to 3 months, do I lose my telephone number and need to pay re-activation fee when utilizing the device?

If I add $100 to my account right now, can I use my device without refill at the end of this year?As long as you still have money in your accuont you will not have to refill your account until the year is up.
If I add $100 to my account right now, but I do not use my device for more than 2 to 3 months, do I lose my telephone number and need to pay re-activation fee when utilizing the device?  The way I read the terms it said you had to make a cell phone voice call once in 6 months in order to keep the service. So I would take that to mean as long as I make a call for 1 minute  every 60 days your account would stay active as long as there is money in the account . That is the way it is listed in the aggreement terms.  I would double check this with customer service and the next day call customer service again and see if you get the same answer

  • Change Device on Prepaid Plan

I'm trying to move my verizon account from a pantech qwerty phone from walmart to a droid 2 i just bought. i keep trying to activate the droid but it always fails. i dial *22898 and failure. any help?

The Droid 2 will not be compatible with the daily prepaid plans.  It will require a monthly plan along with a $29.99/month data package.  I would reccomend calling Verizon's customer service from another phone so that you can get your plan switched and then get assistance in activating the phone.
It's also possible that there is an issue with the Droid 2, and the Verizon rep can help you identify anything that might be keeping the phone from activating.

  • Can I activate my existing iPhone 5s to a prepaid plan?

I have been trying to get ahold of someone but have not been able to find the answer to my question. On the prepaid plan page it gives an option to buy an iPhone 5s and activate it on a prepaid plan, but cannot seem to activate my existing iPhone 5s to my prepaid plan. Why is it that it seems like I have to buy a phone from Verizon in order to use this plan? I currently have an iPhone 4s on prepaid plan and want to change device due to the fact that my 4 is water damaged and barely works. HELP?

Great question, daisycee! New phones are really exciting, and I can understand your eagerness to get this phone activated. Please reach out to our Prepaid Customer Service team for help getting the device switched. You can reach them at 888-294-6804.

  • IPhone 3G on the prepaid plan

Supportive of Apple products as I am, I have brought yet another one home - iPhone 4. I intended to still use my well kept 3G occasionally, and thought a prepaid plan would be a way to go. However, I have just heard back from ATT, and they told me that they don't permit iPhones on prepaid plans?!
Is that not wasteful??? Anybody aware of a way to still use my 3G beauty as a phone?

but some folx told me one must use the phone purchased with the prepaid ATT plan for 6 months before being able to stick the card into the iPhone
And who were these "some folks"? When you got your iphone 4 & activated it, AT&T de-activated the sim in your 3G. Pop it out & pop a pre-paid sim in, you should have no trouble activating the voice part of the sim. You won't be able to activate the data part.

  • Activation FEES?????

    Hi,
I am trying to find out where it says in my signed contract that I will be charged an activation fee. I just looked at my first bill and noticed the $35 fee per line. Had I known about the fee I would not be mad and would have been better prepared to pay my bill. However I have looked at all the information I have received and my signed contract and I do not see anywhere that I would be charged these fees. If someone can tell me where to find this information in my signed contract I would appreciate it. I had issues similar to this with Sprint which is why I left them. I hope this isn't going to happen all over again.

Activation Fees have been a part of the cell phone biz here in the US for decades. I have no idea where it is in the contract, but somewhere on the website there is a fine print footnote *$35 activation fee per line. All the big 4 carriers charge them, but they are often waived on corporate promos, third-party promos or even CSR waivers offered over the phone in settlement of an issue.  Also sales reps in stores can waive them in exchange for plan up-sells. Lacking any of these incentives, however, then yeah you're stuck with them.
