Hi,
I am preparing for 1Z0-051 11g sql fundamentals exam as path to OCA. I have SYBEX publications book by Biju Thomas. Can you please suggest any other good books and any sample mock exams to be ready for the actual exam.

There are no specifically exam focused books for these exams now or in the pipeline as far as I am aware. (This is the cause in fact for the majority of oracle certification examinations that are available).
If not, please also let me know the best books to study for 1Z0-144 & 1Z0-146 exams?

The Oracle Documentation itself is in fact quite good, and sometimes IMHO better than the books!

Certification topics for 1z0-051

I am preparing for the SQL fundamental exam 1z0-051. I am following the book :"OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study Guide: (Exams1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052) " by Biju Thomas.
Question: The exam topics in Oracle's certification website do not indicate subtopics. eg. Group functions is a topic listed but are sub-topics such as ROLLUP and CUBE part of the certification?

The first is usually cheaper, the second while more expensive also covers 1z0-052. I have seen the first book and it is adequate ; and I know of no reason why the second should not be adequate too. While for the self studying for OCA/OCP 10g/11g candidates i somtimes hint to people they should consider getting both Oracle Press and Sybex books; for this exam i tend to think this is not so necessary for most people.

This book is designed to cover 11g SQL in general. It is more orientated towards learning and reference. While not tied to an exam it does probably cover most (if not all) topics needed for 1z0-047. Probably most professionals would find it as easy to look up oracle documentation most of the time. I actually have it, mainly because I it was an easy way for me to get a grip on the newer ANSI join forms whcih I am less useful. I cant say its not useful, but certainly some people would find it of limited use and others are quite happy with it.This book still to come in local market(india).
Thanx.whatever..........but remember this sybex books have very little hands on practice.ie.hardly you will find a query that is left for your practice.All of questions in MCQ basis.

Training for 1z0-051?

Hello all,
I have a requirement by my employer to achieve Oracle Certification. I passed 1z0-052 last week after studying off and on for the last year and a half. Next up is 1z0-051 or 061.
Fortunately my employer is funding a training class for this exam. We have 11g in our environment, so it is the 051/052 track I started on. I noticed on the 051 exam page that the recommended training is no longer offered. I'm planning to take the training class linked from the 061 page (Oracle Database 12c: Introduction to SQL Ed 1.1). Is this adequate/sensible training for the 051 exam? Or should I scrap 051 in favor of 061? I see that either will count towards OCA/OCP.
I am speaking out of honest ignorance here, but it seems that the material covered for 061 is completely applicable to 051. Any sage advice for me? Am I off track in my assessment?

The 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-061 exams have about a 95% commonality in topics. The 'Introduction' section was added to 1Z0-061 and the 'Creating other schema objects' section that was in 1Z0-051 has been removed in 061. As such, the 061 training should prepare you for the vast majority of the 1Z0-051 exam.
That said -- there is no reason not to simply take the 1Z0-061 exam if that's what you are taking the training for anyway. I generally consider picking one over the other to be largely a toss up. Last week someone had the Oracle Press book for 1Z0-051 and was asking about taking 061. I suggested going with 051 since they had the study materials for it. In your case, the opposite applies, so I would suggest that the 1Z0-061 exam would probably be the (slightly) better choice.

Hi, I am planning to appear in the 1Z0-051 test. and got the book (OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Oracle Press). this is an old copy, and does not have the CD with the sample exam.
Are the questions on the exam CD same as at the end of the book, or are those different than those in the book. I don't want to buy the book, if I don't have to.

Nore that I am only a part author of that one, my colleague Roopesh was an equal (or greater) contributor.
I have not gone through the material on the CD, but I was under the impression that it was the same as the printed content. Certainly what I have seen of all the illegal copies that criminals put up on web sites for thieves to download suggests that. THere are other sets of a few hundred questions on the McGraw-Hill website, I think if you can demonstrate that your copy is legal you will have access to them.
Overall, I would make two suggestions. First, do not rely on dummy questions. They are not the real thing (which would be illegal) and all they do is lt you confirm that you have studied the relevant material. There is absolutely no point in repeating them unil you get all right, which is what some people do. Second, do not do that exam at all, it is out of date. Do the 1z0-061 exam insead. Studying for 1Z0-051, months_between issue

Hi guys I'm working through SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide and exercise 4-3 runs this query:
SELECT EMPLOYEE_ID, LAST_NAME, HIRE_DATE
FROM EMPLOYEES
WHERE MONTHS_BETWEEN('01-JAN-2000',HIRE_DATE)>100;
Looking at my sample HR schema the earliest hire_date is 2001 so the results come back with nothing. However if I change the date to '01-JAN-1960' I still get nothing, is there a problem with the query?

MikeIMHO it is inappropriate to ask about individual topics in this forum. IMHO It is better asked in the SQL forum. This forums is more about the infrastructure, processes and procedures of Oracle Certification.
There are a couple of reasons for this. One is that discussion can lead toward exam questions being published. I have seen this happen on a number of occasions, sometimes the orignal is no really a problem ... then braindump extracts and copyright breach material is posted in the same or another thread.
The other reason is that there are a really wide spread of oracle certifications, the 1z0-051 may well be one of hte most common certiifcation exams, but it is one of perhaps about a hundred or so certification exams offered.

NB: Having said that my bucket and shovel approach is when working with these things is not to rely on an implicit character to date conversion but to ensure I am using an explicit character to date conversion and see what happens with that.

I am starting to read my Certification book from Oracle Press on test 051, SQL.
What other forums or websites will I find helpful for this effort? I mean both Oracle approved and non-official Oracle forums. I am interested also in non-offical forums so people can say uncensored or candid things about the test or the products.
A good answer would be a list of the forums here on the Oracle website that will help as well as some websites or forums not on this website that are good for test 051 and the material I need to know.
I also want to know what certification books or manuals cover this material or test? Are there some other popular certification books for test 1Z0-051? Which Oracle manuals cover this material? Again a good answer would be a list of books and a list of manuals.
I read somewhere that the online Oracle Library now costs to access. Is this true? I am on a strict budget.

The main problem one has in doing certification training is avoiding unauthorized learning material (A lot of web searching will lead to braindumps which are bad).

I read something about Oracle products on this website but as you might expect they only list Oracle products or approved products.Proably what you need to be looking for is getting Oracle XE downloaded to your local machine, possibly in a virutal machine, virtualbox, vmware server. You will need specific linux versions, xp pro or vista business.

6) IMPORTANT: Some 'online docs' you may find, or are directed to, or may be offered (particularly braindumps), may be unauthorised materials and using them could end up with you losing credit for any exam/certification you may take.

Study source for 1Z0-051 exam Oracle11g SQL Fundamentals certification

What are some good sources for this exam that are legit. I have the OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam guide, read the whole section regarding SQL and have practiced the test questions until I scored 100% multiple times. Yet (with all humility), I failed the exam. I don't want to cheat and will keep trying until I pass it the right way! I'm going to keep studying the areas I need to really master., but I noticed that the real Exam was nothing like the practice exam. For me, the real exam was a lot trickier and there were a few questions that the book didn't cover. The guy working at the test center recommended testking but upon further research, some sites consider using testking as cheating. I have not purchased any new study guides and would like feedback to some legit study guides. Is the transcender study guide legit and worth it? Please pardon me if this question has been asked a dozen times. I will scour the forums for more info regarding this but also wanted some direct feedback.

A monI was going to say possibly the cheapest way is buy the sybex Book : ISBN-13: 9780470395127 which is like the Watson Book ... but it isn't that cheap andalso coves 1z0-052 which you don't need.
( Selftest Sofware is reputed to be good, Transcender a little better (they are both Kaplan Brans and overlap common material). Ucertify may be cheapter but quality may be less. And make sure you get the right site and not a phishing link pretending to be them.

.... Doing your own flash cards and notes can be useful.
I always regard practice questions as precious and leave it as late as possible in study before doing questions.
(If you must peek ahead choose a chapter just before half way through the book and do end of chapter questions for that only).
But I won't even do end of chapter practice questions until I think I know the whole exam topics and have notes on all the material.
Only when I think I know it all will I do even end of chapter questions.
And I wont do them if I have read up on the topics during the day. I will wait until the next day.
And after doing end of chapter results I re-read the chapter and topics and practice. But I wont redo those questions for a few days
And only when I get good enough practice score from the chapter do I take a full practice test.
Basic principle is concentrate on learning and use the precious study ids to fill the gaps. It's a little slower getting there that way but these is more chance of a pass.

Please share your experience regarding your preparation techniques, your plan regarding solving the exam question and what were your expectation before the exam and would they exactly match after you found your exam result.
I needs these experience because I' going to give 051 exam and want to prepare for that. I also need your suggestion for me regarding exam preparation.

I tried these options on SQL developer, and I can assure that C. AND E. should be the one not working. Is it just me or is this CD filled with mistakes!?!?!?
Even in the book there were countless typos and spelling mistakes toward the end...
Now I am left doubting the study guide provided with the book!I REALLY dislike it when people pur multiple choice questions on the forum. Perhaps its just me, but the publishing of these questions simply will end up leading to copyright breaches or worse.
There are (at least) two books you could be talking about. (and i'm not going to bother working out which one it is).

It is a right pain these books and associated CDROMs contain mistakes. In general the situation is probably getting a little better as the years go on.
The correct procedure for a book mistake is to:
(0) check the errata.
(1) Try it for oneself.
(2) Check it with a peer.
(3) Contact the author publisher.
Publishing the authors's work on the world wide web is probably not the way to go.
If at all possible try not to publish the whole question.
As this is not a high stakes exam I am probably ranting more than i should .....
Despite mistakes the book it overall quite valuable.
In my opnion the publsihing of mulitple choice questions by candidates can easily end up where someone slips up and publishes something stupid like a real exam question .... and then there's trouble for everybody and someone could end up getting exam results taken away and stuff.
As I say this rant is merely my personal opinion and is not authorative.

About sharing tip, as you have said you are following advice by Billy then I think its great. Passing any exam or interview is a one thing, doing the job as DBA or developer is totally different one and having the knowlede / experience is another. These 3 aspects don't have any 1 to 1 or 1 to many relationship.
- Remove any fear or fobia of exam. Just enjoy the exam.
- In first attempt, try to solve all those questions which are are easy to you.
- Read the question carefully, understand it and intelligent try to choose the correct answer(s) from given options.
- OCA 10g IZO-042 , Practicing exam, tips to get good score
- Trust upon yourself (but don't over confidence). Think that I have done hard work and success is encapsulated with the hardworking only.
- If you have completed the exam, review doubtful marked question in remaining time.
