PrepareDomain should it modify the Domain Controller Policy?

I have Exchange 2010 installed with two servers in a DAG.  I recently ran into a problem were two of the domain controllers were down and had to reboot both Exchange servers.  Exchange would not come back online because of the missing SACL right
on the other domain controllers.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/richardroddy/archive/2010/06/16/msexchange-adaccess-dsaccess-errors-and-the-manage-auditing-and-security-right.aspx
I went ahead and ran exchange "setup /preparedomain" and I was able to get my DAG running again but when I check the "Default Domain Controllers Policy" it is not modified to allow the "Exchange Servers" group manage auditing
and security log like I would expect it to.  There are no errors but it only modified the local domain controller policy.  So I would have to run this on every domain controller.

Hi,
According to your description, it seems like DC replication issue.
I recommend you refer to the follwoing article to force sync manually:
Force Replication Between Domain Controllers
You can use this procedure to force Active Directory replication to occur between two domain controllers on a one-time basis when you want changes to be replicated from the server that received the changes to a server in another site sooner than the
site link schedule allows. As an alternative, you can synchronize replication with all replication partners.
Thanks.

---NO you wont see workstations, only if editing the default domain policy, as described prior best practice would be to create a new GPO with a great name that you
wont mix up such as "workstation audit GPO" and link to the site, domain or OU you require.
Its not great practise IMO adding loads of stuff to default domain policy when you want to troubleshoot best to segregate GPOS with great easy to

  • JRE 1.7 / Java Plug-in - Long delay in retrieving the applet File(JAR) due to a request to the Domain Controller(on port 53)

    Description:
A specific group of users/customers (using Windows7 OS with IE and FireFox web browsers) are facing problems with retrieving the applet File, after they upgraded the JRE on the system(PC) to JRE 1.7.0_25-b17 from JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11.
With JRE 1.7.0_25-b17 it is noticed that when the Java plugin requests for the applet File; it sends a request to the Domain Controller of the user, which causes a delay of 2 to 5 minutes and sometimes hangs. The problem occurs consistently.
The current temporary workaround for this group of users is to use JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11.
    Problem analysis:
To investigate the problem the below steps were executed:
    1) Collected the Java console outputbelow details from the user's system. (The complete output is not posted due to lengthy content, though can be added further to this post if required.)
    (a) Works fine with JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11. Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section A’ towards the end of this post.
    (b) The problem occurs with problem with JRE version 1.7.0_25-b17. Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section B’ towards the end of this post. The step where the problem is observed, is indicated as(##<comment>##).
    2) The network settings in the user's browser was checked. Internet Options > Connections > LAN setting
The configured option is 'Use automatic configuration script' and the value is http://www.userAppX.com/proxy.pac
This configuration remains the same irrespective of the JRE version in use.
    3) The network settings in the Java Control Panel was checked.
The used/selected option is "Use browser settings", although values for 'Use proxy server' and 'use automatic proxy configuration script' are filled-in as 'user-proxy.com' and 'http://www.userAppX.com/proxy.pac' respectively.
This configuration remains the same irrespective of the JRE version in use.
    4) The proxy PAC file was checked and debugging was done for the request 'https://myAppletHost.com/download/...'. The FindProxyForUrl function (including the conditions defined in it, for the hostname and domain checks) returns PROXY user-proxy.com:80
    5) The user also tried the below
    a. Changed the option in the network settings in the browser to 'Proxy server' with Address 'user-proxy.com' and Port '80'
    b. Restarted the browser.
    c. Tried with Java Plug-in 1.6.0_29, JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11. There was no problem and no request to the Domain Controller of the user.
    d. Tried with Java Plug-in 10.40.2.43, JRE version 1.7.0_40-b43. The problem occurs with the delay and a request to the Domain Controller of the user is observed.
Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section C’ towards the end of this post.
    6) The user also tried setting the below property in the Java Control panel; restarted the browser, and try with JRE 1.7.0_40-b43. The problem stil persists.
    -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
    7) The Global Policy Management of the Domain Controller was verified by the user. It has GPO for proxy setting but nothing related to Java security.
    Questions:
The problem seems be specific to a particular (user) environment setup, and the user faces the problem when using JRE 1.7.
We would like to know if the issue is in the (user) environment setup or in JRE 1.7.
Could you please help with information/ideas/suggestions to identify the root cause and solution for this problem?

My organization is experiencing very similar problems.  We have resolved it through several steps.
We upgraded the client to Java 8 and we saw in the console that the hanging connection with the Domain Controller no longer occurs.  This may be all that is necessary for your environment as well.

  • Cant figure out the IP address of the domain controller

I just started at a new company and would like to change my domain password but cannot because I cant communicate with the domain controller.  I can see it when I do a net view, but I cannot ping it because my DNS server is set to the local router IP
address rather than the DC IP address and the name simply won't resolve.
I suspect if I manually change my DNS server to point to the IP of the DC, my problem will go away.  I asked the local IT guy and he says 'nobody has ever asked to change their domain password before' ???!?!?!????? nor does he have any idea about the
IP and he would have to submit a ticket to the overseas IT desk (where the DC physically resides) and they would change my password manually.
    Any ideas?

    Robr2,
I agree with others about the ONLY DNS that must be set on ALL machines is ONLY the DC's IP address. That's it. Not the router, or the ISP's DNS. This is one of the most common configuration errors that will cause
MAJOR problems with DC to client communcations.
Here's a full explanation with a great analogy:
Active Directory's Reliance on DNS, and why you should never use an ISP's DNS address or your router as a DNS address, or any other DNS server that does not host the AD zone name

    Hello All,
We will be starting promotion of Windows Server 2012 R2 Domain Controller in our organisation. For that we are trying to implement the Default Domain Controller Policy for 2012 r2 related.

    Hi,
Did you get this error when clicking on the Populate Containers button?
If yes, please make sure that you have provide the domain credentials in the account name and password
boxes below when entering the domain information. The account must be granted the replicating directory changes permission on the domain.

First, check the instrument's user manual to see if the GPIB and serial command sets are the same. Also check to see what EOS(End of String) characters the instrument requires. Then, do a loopback test to test communication in LabVIEW.

Changing the name servers for a domain would require you to re-create the MX records at the new DNS provider's end to point to your existing email service provider. You might experience downtime during the transition/propagation period.

  • Applying Domain controller policy to only one DC on a domain

We want to apply the Microsoft supplied group policy "MSFT Windows Server 2012 R2 Domain controller Baseline" to only 1 out of our 6 Server 2012 R2 Domain controllers. This server is also set-up as an RODC and is in a DMZ
    hence hardening.
Some of the settings within this policy would seem to be applicable to a domain rather than an individual server (DC), even though they are listed under "Local Policies".
The following are only some examples, there may be others.......
Computer Configuration, Policies, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies/Security Options, Other
Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always)
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)
Computer Configuration, Policies, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Polices/Security Options, Domain Controller
Domain Controller: LDAP server signing requirements - Require signing
Computer Configurati......, Local Policies/Security Options, Network Security
Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients (and Servers) - Require NTLMv2 session security and Require 128-bit encryption
My question is - If we apply this group policy to one DC only, will it affect any other Domain wide communication e.g. PCs to other DCs, Member servers to other DCs, DCs to DCs etc? I understand that after policy application, the DC may not function
properly and we will need to test it and potentially relax some of the settings but we cannot afford to risk the rest of the domain from being affected. We are particularly concerned with the forcing of Digitally signing or encypting communications.
    Can anyone help?

If configured incorrectly the policy might disable communication from or to the dc.
That being said, I think you are pretty safe applying the listed policy items.

  • Should I modify the camera file to change the greyscale resolution of my Photonfocus camera from 8 to 12 bits?

I have some difficulties to use my Photonfocus camera with 12 bits greyscale resolution.
    I have a Photonfocus camera MV-D1024E-160-CL-12, a NI PCIe-1429 frame grabber, PFRemote 2.0 and Measurement & Automation Explorer 4.2.1.3001.
If I work with 8 bits greyscale resolution (PFRemote -> Data Output: Resolution : 8 bit) and look at the image with MAX (Système -> Périphériques et interfaces -> NI-IMAQ Devices -> img0: NI PCIe-1429 -> Channel 0: PhotonFocus MV-D1024-160 (file in attachment), everything is working.
Now I'd like to work with 12 bits and I don't know exactly what I have to change? I've tried to change only the resolution in PFRemote (PFRemote -> Data Output: Resolution : 12 bit) but then the image in MAX remains a 8 bit resolution. Then I've tried also to modify the camera file (file in attachment). I've put the "BitDepth" and the "BitsPerComponent" at 12 instead of 8 and the "BinaryThreshold" to (0,4095). But when trying to grab an image in MAX, an error occured: "Error 0xBFF600FE Le nombre de bits par pixel requis est invalide".
Should I really modify the camera file in order to grab 12 bits images? Or what should I do?
    Thank you

    Hi toto26,
Thank you very much for the information. I did exactly the same thing as you suggested for 8-bit, and I were able to change the resolution (number of pixels), exposure time, frame rate without any problem. I understand that I need to coordinate the MAX icd file and the settings of PFRemote.
When I tried to switch to 12-bit, I found that I need the camera file (.icd) for 12-bit. I tried the attached icd in the previous discussion (Photonfocus MV-D1024E-160-CL-12 12-bit 1429 X4 only.zip 2 KB). There was an IMAX Error: Error 0xBFF6002C, FIFO overflow caused acquisition to halt. Then I think maybe this camera file is not good for me because I have a PCIe-1427, instead of a PCIe-1429.
So, I downloaded the camera file generator (from the same link you suggested) to create my own camera file. When I run the generator, the first window popped out was for camera setting, and there was no Photonfocus in the choice for the Manufacturer. Is it true that I cannot create camera files for Photonfocus camera, or I simply don't know how to use the generator?
Thanks again for the help and I look forward to more advices.

  • Reboot domain controller changes audit policy on Default Domain Controller Policy

This has been happening for a long time no matter whether my DCs were running Windows Server 2003 or, as they are now, are running Windows Server 2012 R2. It happens on DCs in one particular site, but the policy change it causes is domain-wide.
I have 2 DCs at that site, every time one of them is rebooted, the following policy is turned off, from Success and Failure to No auditing:
Default Domain Controllers Policy - Computer Configuration - Policies - Windows Settings - Security Settings - Local Policies/Audit Policy.
I have monitoring application relying on this policy being turned on, and if it's off, it's being reported. The monitoring application knows the change, but it doesn't know how the change was made.
All my DCs are running Windows Server 2012 R2, DFL 2008 R2.
    Thanks and regards.

    Hi,
    >>I have 2 DCs at that site, every time one of them is rebooted, the following policy is turned off, from Success and Failure to No auditing:
Did we try to run command gpresult/h report.html with admin privileges to collect group policy result report to check how the policy setting was  applied after rebooting?  Besides, we can also try to run command
auditpol /get / category:* from an elevated command prompt to check what audit settings are applied.
    Best regards,
    Frank Shen

  • WLC redirect was working fine, now it is going to the domain controller

WLC was going to https://1.1.1.1/login.html?redirect=google.com/ and worked beautifully for years.
All of a sudden the web browser is now going to:  https://(my domain controller name/login.html?redirect=google.com/
I have to manually put in the 1.1.1.1 instead of my domain controller name to get them to the authentication page.
    How do I fix?

First I'd check the WLC and make sure the VIP DNS name hasn't been changed.
Secondly it's possible a proxy was out in place, so I'd see of that happened as well
