Preparing a file in Photoshop for widescreen video in Final Cut

I have tried two ways; using the the NTSC DV Widescreen setting in Photoshop (exporting w/ PAR turned off as is recommended); preparing the document at 853 x 480 pixels. In Final Cut I am using NTSC DV 48 kHz Anamorphic for my sequence setting. The image prepared using the Widescreen setting in Photoshop looks noticeably sharper in Final Cut than the image prepared at 853 x 480 pixels. I guess this has to do w/ the way the 853 pixels are re-sliced to accommodate Final Cut's resolution? The image using Photoshop's Widescreen setting first displays on the timeline in Final Cut, horizontally squeezed and I have to adjust it's aspect ratio under Motion>Distort from 33.33 to 0. Then it displays correctly. I'm comparing the two images at 200% in the canvas. Will the increased sharpness of the one image over the other that I'm seeing on the timeline in Final Cut translate to the exported video as well and is there some import setting that I need to use so that I won't have to adjust the aspect ratio on the Widescreen images exported from Photoshop, once they're on the timeline in Final Cut? Thanks for any insight anyone cares to offer.

Nick, thanks for your suggestion. By setting the Anamorphic flag on the image in FCP do you mean checking Anamorphic under Item Properties for the image while it is still in the browser and then placing the image on the timeline? That did work. (It set the aspect ratio to 0 which is what I had been doing manually under Motion>Distort.) In the browser I can only select one image at a time and check off Anamorphic in Item Properties. On the timeline I can select all the images and they show up in a horizontal list under Item Properties and I can check off Anamorphic for each one, but then I have to re-place them on the timeline from the browser in order to see them display in the correct aspect ratio. Is that the way it works?

  • How can i export a 24bit avi file from photoshop for mac?

how can i export a 24bit avi file from photoshop for mac? i have a client that specificly needs the files to be avi and in 24bit what are the settings that i need to use to export the video using photoshop on a mac?

    Hello,
To make a 24-bit AVI file in Photoshop, go to File>Export>Render Video. Then, under File Options, choose AVI from the Quicktime Export drop-down menu. Click the Settings button. Click the Settings button in the AVI Settings window. Change Compression to None, and then choose "Millions of Colors" from the Depth drop-down under Compression.
The Millions of Colors option is for 24-bit video (8-bit R+G+B channels, 8x3=24). Millions of Colors+ is for 32-bit video (24-bit video plus an 8-bit alpha channel).

  • Double Tapping for Widescreen video taking is no nonger required

For quite some time the only way to take widescreen video on an iphone was to turn it sideways of course then to dbl tap the screen to get 16x9 recording.
Now that is not the case at all and I have been wasting my time with my new phone dbl tapping away.  It is the only camera I have ever used that by default does not show you in the viewfinder what you are actually recording.  That is the only use to dbl tap is to see the actual preview. The ending result is the same.
Anyone have any ideas why the default view for widescreen video taking is not 16x9.  I do get one use and that is for Facetime but that usually is using the back lense.
My post is to let all those dbl tappers out there know that it is not required anymore with the 4s.  I simply did not know this until recently.

have tried to import from DVD since the video I ripped from the disc through Handbrake
Handbrake is absolutely the wrong tool to use for converting DVD footage to use for editing. It is designed to convert DVD-Video for viewing on other devices - NOT for editing.
Use MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD's VOB files to QuickTime DV/DVCPro, then import the resulting file into your FCP project.

Iam trying to import a short video in final cut express and I'm getting this error... File Error: 1 file(s) recognized. 0 access denied, 1 unknown. How do I solve this problem?  The video is on my desktop and it's an mpg file. Please help me

Get a copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert your MPG file to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).  In FCE, select one of the setups that uses AIC that best matches your clip (say, 1920x1080i60).  Create a new sequence, then import the converted file.
Note that if your MPG file is actually MPEG2 you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component in addition to MPEG Streamclip.
What was the source of the MPG file?  How about if you open it in QuickTime, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector.  Tell us what it says for codec/compression, frame size & frame rate.

  • I finished adding my transtions to my timeline.  I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?

I finished adding my transtions to my timeline.  I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?

    What Happened?
No way for us to know.  But if your system was crashing, there definitely was a problem.  The FCE error message you got normally indicates the FCE project file has been corrupted.  This probably happened due to whatever caused your system to crash & shutting down the system.
First, make sure your system is running correctly.  Then, use the Finder to navigate to /users/yourusername/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault and find the most recent backup copy of your FCE project file.  Copy the file to your Final Cut Express Documents folder (copy the file, don't just move it).  Then double-click the copy to open it in FCE.  It should open ok, but will probably not have your most recent edits (transitions).  You may have to rebuild the transitions, but at least you will be back in action.

You would need an image editor to edit the images and add a border to the image first before importing them into Final Cut.

  • Burning a video from Final Cut Pro using iDVD

When I export and save my video from Final Cut Pro to a folder (export->Using Quick Time Conversion). When I do that there are several different videos that are saved in my folder (ie-Kelly Michelle; Kelly Michelle-av1; Kelly Michelle-av2; Kelly Michelle-av3; Kelly Michelle-av4; Kelly Michelle-av5).
iDVD is the program I need to use, I do not have any other programs. Therefore, I import the file to iDVD and once everything is ready in iDVD I try to burn the dvd. However, in the last stages of burning a window pops up and says that "an error was found during the burning process". It does not tell me what kind of an error it is. Does anyone have any advice or a step by step process that I need to do in order to burn my dvd successfully.

The simplest way to prepare a video for iDVD is to *Export/Quicktime Movie* (NOT Using Quicktime Conversion), select Current Settings, Audio and Video and, depending on your needs, other 2 options:
o- +Make Movie Self-Contained+ is preferred to have an independent movie (you can move the exported file, you can continue editing your FCP project before burning the exported version, etc.) but requires more disk space and more time for exporting.
o- +Chapter Markers+ (NOT All Chapters) must be selected if you created Chapter Markers in FCP (markers in the timeline, not the clip, and clicked the Add Chapter Marker button in the marker dialog).
The resulting .mov file (whether self-contained or reference) may be easily imported to iDVD.

  • Can't import iPad videos in Final Cut Pro X

Hello there, anyone knows if there are recent issues in importing iPad videos into Final Cut Pro X?
I follow the ordinary workflow, and it all seems ok but at the end of the importing process a "!" yellow triangle remains attached to the imported clip and this one can't be played.
Already tried to make a high quality conversionand/or a proxy, the conversion process seems to start but it doesn't go further than 0%.
Thanks in advcance for your help.
PS: the videos have been teaken with the "Video Pro" app an then exported to the iPad "film roll".
PPS: in the importing window the clips can be played normally.

Russ, I succeed in importing some files by transcoding them in a proxy one by one (that is not in a work queue). Some other files simply stops the rendering process and make it hang until the closing of FCPX. Thanks for your time.

  • Exporting HD Video From Final Cut Express HD

When attempting to export HD video from Final Cut Express using "uncompressed" setting, I notice that the output quality seems to be limited to "medium." If no compression is used, wouldn't that imply that the video quality should equal original footage?

All FCE Timelines are using the AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for HD stuff if you selected the correct Easy Setup before you started your Project.
If you export as a Quicktime Movie then you are getting exactly the same export quality as the Timeline.
The Quicktime Movie can be either Self-Contained or a Reference file. Reference Files are great because they use/reference you exisating captured files on your Scratch Disc, use less space and export fast.
However if you need to play the export somewhere other than your Mac your will require the file to be Self-Contained.
QuickTime Conversion does just that, Converts to whatever you select.

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.
