Preparing for First Use

I have completed the installation of Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) using Boot Camp Assistant on my MacBook Pro (MBP) 13-inch with 250 GB HDD (stock) and 4 GB DDR3 1067 MHz (stock), which I got in June this year (2010). So, when installation is complete, the setup asks you to restart.
So, I restarted my MBP and booted into Windows 7 Ultimate. The Windows symbol came out and after that the screen changed to the screen with the words "Setup is preparing for first use" and a bar that glows beneath it (with the glow moving from left to right and changing color through the spectrum of light). However, the setup hangs or freezes in the middle of this. This mean that the glow doesn't move and the screen does not change.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I don't know the particulars of the MBP but there should be other threads and users. It does not seem to be normal.
This is retail DVD and not an ISO downloaded and burned that came from school? otherwise you may need to re-burn the DVD.
See if it loads in Safe Mode
Reboot from Windows 7 DVD
May need to uninstall a device driver
After Windows is installed you'll need your OS X DVD to install/add Apple drivers and services
One you do have Boot Camp 3.x installed on Windows,

It could be a disk error, in which case CHKDSK or start over and when you format NTFS, instead of quick format, use full format with option to map out bad blocks. And that is IF it is disk drive error.
I had an error once but it was after I had been using Windows, and I had a 2nd user account I could login and correct the problem with the first account (folder needed was read-only and likely disk I/O error).
I favor Windows 64-bit, but you may want to try 32-bit instead, and unless you plan to add more RAM, shouldn't make any real difference. Retail copy comes with both versions on DVDs.

  • Any solution for iCloud - Outlook integration - Preparing calendar for first use?

Every time I switch to the calendar view I get a little bubble in the taskbar saying "preparing calendar for first use". This ends up freezing Outlook for about 45- 60 seconds -- long enough for the Outlook window to have a "(not responding)" added to the title bar. This freeze-out is massively disruptive. It seems like Outlook is re-preparing the new iCloud calendars every time. Is this normal? Is there a configuration setting I could look at for this?

Now it doesn't freeze on me

  • Why does Outlook keep "preparing [iCloud] calendar for first use"?

    Hello all --
I just installed iCloud on my Windows 7 laptop and configured it to integrate with Exchange. The functionality seems to work but there are two very annoying behaviours that I hope someone can help me with:
Every time I switch to the calendar view I get a little bubble in the taskbar saying "preparing calendar for first use". This ends up freezing Outlook for about 45- 60 seconds -- long enough for the Outlook window to have a "(not responding)" added to the title bar. This freeze-out is massively disruptive. The iCloud calendars are always checked when I start up. Is there any way to uncheck them? Solving this might solve #1 above
Any suggestions on how to resolve and/or debug these further?

  • Using Photos- prep for first use

Hi. I want to put photos on my iPad for portfolio purposes mostly and was wondering if it would be most efficient to create albums in iPhoto that are 72dpi only for iPad use, then sync to iPad? I would probably use and then dump other similar images (such as a client's session), but play a nice slideshow for them fullscreen.
If this is most efficient, what are the dpi and pixel specs that are optimized the best? I have read that the sync alone optimizes a photo, but I am not sure how exactly.
Thanks for any tips or links in the right direction!

The process you described allows you to take photos on your computer and move them to the Pad using the sync function. I can't find any place where I can select the option of taking photos that were imported directly onto the iPad, do not yet exist on the computer, but I want to select to sync from the iPad to the computer.
Right now, the only way that I can get Photos that were loaded directly onto the iPad copied to the computer is to go to iPhoto and select photos on the iPad to be imported (as I would with a direct connect of a camera or a flash card to the computer). IPad Syncing doesn't seem to "synchronize". What it seems to do is to take whatever you have selected on your computer for syncing and copy it to the iPad (with the exception of iPad apps which do seem to synchronize both ways).
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

  • NB 305 7 Starter Restore "Preparing Computer for first" use how long stuck??

OK, I've searched far and wide for a straight forward answer on this, but I can't seem to find one anywhere...
So I did a restore on my NB because the guy I bought it from had deleted everything, but didn't do a restore, and It's running 7 starter, and didn't come with a disk...
So I went through the wizard and got everything partitioned and the reboot, now It's stuck (maybe I don't know) on the "setup preparing desktop"  page, and has been like that for a little over an hour.
Now I'm not sure, how long it's supposed to take, as I just got it and haven't played with it much, but Is it supposed to take this long?? If not, what can I do? I saw a couple posts about going through CMD to remove drivers, but I don't have a disk, or USB, and I don't think I can get into BIOS or safe mode.. Anything would be helpful! Thanks guys!

  • Preparation for Consolidation using EC-CS

    Dear FI/CO experts,
We have a huge chunk of  AR/AP/GL open items with wrong or missing values for trading partner (VBUND), profit center(PRCTR) and partner profit center(PPRCTR) fields.
We implemented EC-CS in our organization and need to rectify or correct these individual line items with the correct field values i.r.o the above fields.
When I use T-codes  (F-04, F-30, F-51) for u201Cpost with clearingu201D functionality, though I am able to rectify the trading partner information in the newly created line items after duly clearing the erroneous existing line items, I am not able to pass the PRCTR and PPRCTR in the said transaction.
Further, the source tables for EC-CS is GLPCA and GLPCT  and the data is not moved to PCA area even after rectifying the trading partner information using the said T-codes. So the correction methodology is not effective.
Have you anytime encountered similar type of a situation where in the infected data is rectified through a transaction posting rather than effecting table level changes in GLPCA and GLPCT.
    Please suggest your views.

  • Problem entering PIN for first use

    Hello, everyone,
I just received a Blackberry Curve 9300 and am trying to get started with it.. The first step is to enter the PIN, which I assume is the PIN given on the box. It is an 8-character, alphanumeric code. When I attempt to enter the PIN, the field only accepts 7 characters. In addition, since the PIN is masked when it is typed, I can't verify the characters I enter.
The no doubt helpful web pages and demos on the Blackberry site are no longer there for this model, I get a "404 page not found" message.
Any advice will be most appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • Need help with administrator password for first use??

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a dummy question. I just installed BI EE, then I was trying to open a sample Repository file, it asked me for password for Administrator account. I entered SADMIN as I found from the HELP (attached below), it didn't work; then I left it blank, it didn't work, then I tried any password I used during the installation, none of them worked.
Hopefully I can get some insight here.
Thank and have a good day.

    ====================
About the Oracle BI Administrator Account
The Oracle BI Administrator account (user ID of Administrator) is a default user account in every Oracle BI repository. This is a permanent account. It cannot be deleted or modified other than to change the password and logging level. It is designed to perform all administrative tasks in a repository, such as importing physical schemas, creating business models, and creating users and groups.
NOTE: The Oracle BI Administrator account is not the same as the Windows NT and Windows 2000 Administrator account. The administrative privileges granted to this account function only within the Oracle BI Server environment.
When you create a new repository, the Oracle BI Administrator account is created automatically and has no password assigned to it. You should assign a password for the Oracle BI Administrator account as soon as you create the repository. The Oracle BI Administrator account created during the installation of the Oracle BI repository, that is, the repository shipped with Oracle BI, has the default password SADMIN.
The Oracle BI Administrator account belongs to the Administrators group by default and cannot be deleted from it. The person logged on using the Oracle BI Administrator user ID or any member of the Oracle BI Administrators group has permissions to change anything in the repository. Any query issued from the Oracle BI Administrator account has complete access to the data; no restrictions apply to any objects.

  • Computer keeps Configuring and setting up for first time use

I have a toshiba A505-S6980 that has been working fine for a couple years.  Recently I had performance issues and suspected virus, spyware so I did a recovery with the original discs I made when I first got the computer.  Four of the six discs reloaded fine.  It did not ask for the last two discs "Environment 64 bit and Applications and Drives.  I also have a System Repair disc.  After loading the four recovery discs the computer now keeps recycling between preparing for first time use, configuring system, reboot and then back to preparing for first time use, etc.  I think I'm close to getting this, but need a last bit of help.
    Thanks

It's been a couple days since you posted this problem. Did you get anywhere, or are you still stuck in that loop? If it's still stuck, you may just want to perform the recovery again.

  • My system freezes during start-up "for first time" after running System Recovery.

    HP G62-227CL
    Win 7 (64 bit)
No error message, per se; just a frozen screen during reboot.
Months ago, my computer suddenly started glitching on me.  I shut down and tried a reboot.  The system froze on the boot screen with the flying colors.  Tried system recovery several times  but must have done something wrong because it would not run.  Resolved to buy a new hard drive and reinstall from recovery discs.  Delayed for no good reason until today, months later.
Before buying new hard drive, decided to run System Recovery again.  It worked!  I tried the option that deleted everything and restored to original factory settings and software.  Everything appeared to work like a charm: hard drive reformatted, software reinstalled, system prompted me for a reboot.  I did.  Windows started to start, "Setup preparting your computer for the first use" appears . . . and freezes.  For hours.  Hard drive indicator light is off.
BTW, made sure that the Wi-Fi button was on as I read about Recovery issues if it was off when the program ran.
Rebooted.  Hit F11.  Ran maintenance and checked hard drive for errors.  There are errors.  Unfortunately, the default setting of CHKDSK does not repair them.   Opted for a command prompt.  Rand CHKDSK again with "/f /r" option seen in other posts.  I'm too ignorant here to get the program to run properly, I guess.  I ran CHKDSK on both drive X and C.  No errors found . . . sort of.  I know they exist because the system will not boot up.  (Yes, I tried again.)  Back at command prompt, I tried to run CHKDSK on drive C again.  This time I received a message that I would first have to unmount (dismount?) the drive.  As I do not know what this means, I opted for "no" and have decided to post this message for assistance.
So.  Suggestions on what I do next?  More specifically: how do I get CHKDSK to repair the errors it found?  I believe the message was: "Errors in $130 of sector . . ."  It displays this message twice at 62% completion.  Freezes for a long time.  Gets going again only to slow to a crawl again around 70% but for not as long.  Then returns back to the start screen of System Recovery.
Ran System Recovery again for kicks.  Again, appeared to work like a charm.  Unfortunately, the laptop is once again sitting frozen on the "Preparing . . . for first use" screen again.  It is getting hotter the longer it sits.  The fan is now audibly running at higher rpms . . . if any of that helps.  I'm shutting it down and waiting for your advice.
    Thanks!
    This question was solved.

Hello Miles1966.  I understand you're experiencing some issues with your notebook freezing.
This does sound like a hard drive problem.  The freezes, missing HDD indicator light, and inability to perform a recovery are all symptoms of a failing hard drive.  You had been using CHKDISK previously but have you tried running the diagnostic which is built into the BIOS?  Try following these steps and post the result of the diagnostic.  I suggest running the memory test as well just in case.
Let me know the result of these diagnostics.  I hope you have a great day!

  • X230 - Setup Is Preparing Your Computer For First Time Use

    Dear all,
I just received my X230 bought on Ebay and as I first turned on the computer, Windows was frozen and showed "Setup Is Preparing Your Computer For First Time Use" for hours (I guess its a whole day). Since I do not have any recovery media provided, does anyone has alternative solution?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks! It took me a whole day to figure out what happened and I ended up format the whole drive and reinstall the windows. Yes, you are right, X230 is a good machine and acutally I was thinking to puchase X240 since there is kind of back to school program that you can purchase X240 at a deep discount price. After so many bad comments I chose X230 instead for:
    1. Physical Trackpad button (which is extremely important as I ONLY use trackpoint)
    2. 2 ram slots
    3. normal voltage CPU
I am surfing the net with X230 and I am so happy I bought this.

    Hi,
I'm starting the prepare for the first time and I received this message "You must be BD2ADM to run this command."  I login as BD2OFR.
I'm trying to upgrade our BW 3.1C with kernel 640 to NetWeaver 2004 SR1.
Do you have any solution for this problem I cannot continue with the prepare.
    Thanks,
    Ramon

    Hi Ramon,
I ran into the same error ... (but it was very late night and therefore I don't know if I did something wrong and I forgot to talk to SAP on this)
    But:
    - For the 7.00 Upgrade you NEED sidofr and not sidadm!
    - I used the following workaround - run with sidofr -:
    SAPUP UPGDIR('/usr/sap/put') PARMLIST('check')
(instead of prepare - which is the same - with this trick the first error message was "skipped")

P.S.: Sorry SAP collegues, that I didn't mention this issue, but I'm always (when it is not midnight) using the SAPup-prepare above and therefore rarely see this problem.
