Preparing for Recovery Loop
I have an iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen. Whenever I connect it to my PC, open up iTunes, the status says that it's Preparing for Recovery but it only stays there. The iPod also doesn't show up in Windows Explorer.
If you have not already, shut down (power off) your computer. Use this procedure to reset iPod shuffle.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up computer, with shuffle NOT connected. Run iTunes. Connect shuffle.
If you were connecting the shuffle to a USB hub, try using a direct port on the computer. You may also want to try disconnecting all other USB devices, except for standard mouse and keyboard, then connect shuffle.

Stucks in "preparing for recovery" mode (1604). what now?
I dont know what to do...need help!
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

IPad stuck in recovery mode 'preparing software for recovery'
We had tried updatind my iPad several times which came up with error code '1645' and we updated our itunes which had no effect and resulted in us putting it into recovery mode, where it is now stuck.
I've been looking on this post http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and at start it says it resolves issues whe your iPad 'Stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes' my iPad is in recovery mode and it gets to the point in itunes where it displays 'preparing software for recovery' we've had it showing no progress on the bar all night and nothing we have done helps. But that support page really doesn't give any solutions.
I've looked on many sites and tried multiple things such as this website http://thehowto.wikidot.com/ipad-stuck-recovery-mode which is suggested lots and has had no effect after following all the steps.

I have a ipod classic, 160gb.
My ipod is showing a red circle with a red "X" in it. Itunes tells me it will prepare my ipod for recovery but does nothing, why?
My computer is a Inspiron 530S using Windows Vista, duo core. All you can do is try restoring the device. If you are unable to you'll most likely have to get the iPod repaired.

IPod 5 stuck in recovery loop after updating to iOS 8
I own a 5th Generation 32GB iPod Touch. The other day, I tried to update it to iOS 8. Shortly after the installation process began, it went into recovery mode. I believe it's in a recovery loop because I tried using tinyumbrella to exit recovery mode, and the screen went black, the Apple logo came up like it was trying to boot up, but instead went right back into recovery mode. Does anyone know any way I can fix this?
Another note, if I can get it out of the loop, I believe I can get it out of recovery mode. So even if you only know how to get it out of the loop, that info would be very appreciated. Thank you.
EDIT: I do have a backup on iCloud, but it's from about nine months ago. I'd really like to be able to save all those photos and videos I've taken since then. I can get my apps back easily, but there's a lot of data that won't be as easy to get back.
Message was edited by: John MeynardieTry the following. I expect you will have to let the battery fully drain.
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

OS X Panther "Prepares for installation" but nothing happens afterwards.
Hi,
Long story short, I tried updating my computer without checking My computer would actually allow it. Couldn't find my Panther discs so my brother leant me his 10.1 discs and it booted and the installation went fine but now I have the Panther discs i'm having a problem starting up.
It opens in the desktop and tells me to restart my computer, which i do... I hold down C and after a few minutes it shows the loading screen which says it's preparing for installation. Unfortunately that's all it does, the screen goes blue and I am left with the symbol which says it's doing something. I left it for a few hours and came back to find it was still doing the exact same thing as when I left it.
I've also tried starting using the option key and selecting the disc but it goes through the same procedure and doesn't progress.
I know the disc drive works because I checked by playing CDs DVDs (not to mention starting from the 10.1 disc)
It wouldn't be so bad but trying to find all the updates for 10.1.5 is a nuisance and it's strange going backwards from 10.3 to 10.1.
(It's an old grape coloured iMac but it has had memory added and as I stated had previously had panther running)
Help!Leah:
The black ones say Version 10.3
That's great. I will give you step-by-step directions to reformat and erase the HDD, and then install Panther (10.3), then update Panther to 10.3.9. This process will destroy everything on your HDD, so if you don't have an up-do-date backup, post back and let me know. (Question: Do you have an external firewire HDD for backing up?) Otherwise you can just go ahead. It looks difficult because laying it out step-by-step makes it look long and complicated. However, I suggest you first read the procedure through a couple of times, then post back with any questions.
Formatting, Partitioning Zeroing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note: 1 partition is normally better for an internal HDD. External HDDs usually have more than one. See Dr. Smoke’s FAQ Backup and Recovery for tips on partitioning external HDD.)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
Select Erase tab
Optional: (Select the sub-volume under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Select on Security Options button (Tiger) Options button (Panther & earlier).
Select Zero all data. (This process will map out bad blocks on your HDD. However, it could take several hours. If you want a quicker method, don't go to Security Options and just click the Erase button.)
Click OK.
Click Erase button
Quit Disk Utility.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Check box to install X11 (Tiger) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
Proceed with installation.
After installation computer will restart for setup.
After setup, reboot computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.
Connect to Internet.
Download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update.
Computer will restart after updates.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.
Good luck.

How does one get Time Machine out of a "Preparing to Backup" loop to actually doing a backup? thanks, AR
Hi..
Thanks for the reply..
My original I Phone 5 was running IOS 6.12
My I phone 5S currently runs IOS 8..When I upgraded it, it had IOS 7 on it which made the I Photo app compatible with everything below IOS 8...( which the photo app is not compatible with ) so I just connected the I Phone 5S to my computer and thinking the new phone had IOS 7 on it that these was nothing to worry about..I thought all 900 + pictures in the photo stream would transfer but somewhere in the process, I Tunes decides to just go and install IOS 8 which requires that you run a " Photo Migration App" to transfer photos from IOS 7 & below. The problem was is that I didn't want IOS 8 on my new 5S so I thought I wouldn't have to do that part..
Anyway the phone emerged with IOS 8 on it and the only photos that remained were the ones that were actually on the phone..The 900 + I had in the stream didn't transfer because the Photos that works on IOS 7 and below isn't compatible with IOS 8..I guess you have to use the photo migration app that comes with IOS 8 & I phone 6..But I didn't ask to upgrade to IOS 8...It just did it on it's own!
I still have the I Phone 5 Back up that I did just before giving it back to Verizon but if I try to restore the I Phone 5S running IOS 8 those photos in the stream will not go back on the phone because IOS 8 isn't compatible with the I Photos" that ran on IOS 7 and below..
So I have an I Pad mini that runs IOS 7..should I try and erase it...and put that I Phone 5 backup on it and pray the photos that were in the stream come back on it so I can transfer them back to my computer...then erase the I pad mini again and restore it using it's original backup that I have on the computer and the in the cloud?
I know this sounds confusing but I'm at a loss as to what to do..This is what I found ...http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201386
but it doesn't help me..

How to prepare for labview certifications without getting training ?
Can u ppl guide me to prepare for labview certification-- the first one CLAD without taking training on labview basics.
I have learned up to certain level and made one program to manage a simple database--to enter and save new entries, retrieve them by searching using a particular item name and display it.
still I want some more practical exercises-- so that i can learn some new features too.
u please suggest me some.

RMS_LV.doc 241 KBHi janki,
the best preparation is to use LabVIEW. Try to understand how the functions work. Work with Graphs and Charts. Understand how loops are working, when and why they stop and ... .
You should also use the forums search, there are a lot of threads about certification.

Mine keeps on saying that the device could not be restored, "an unknown error has occurred (2001)"!! Guess it's stuck in that dreaded "iPhone Recovery Mode" loop. The question is, which way out??? How do I get it out of the recovery loop??
A quick Google search for Error 2001 would indicate that this occurs when you have a jailbroken phone or were trying to downgrade iOS. Is that true for you?

Howdy,
I'm trying to enable my system with WinRE but all to no avail. What could be wrong?
The partition layout is as follows:
PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-Partition -DiskNumber 4
DiskId: \\?\scsi#disk&ven_msft&prod_virtual_disk#2&2e87576f&0&000002#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}

3 630194176 128 MB Reserved
4 E 764411904 95 GB Basic
5 102769885184 4.29 GB Recovery
I formatted this 1st recovery partition into FAT32 and mounted the volume as R:
PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-Partition -DiskNumber 4 -PartitionNumber 1 | Format-Volume -FileSystem FAT32 -NewFileSystemL
abel RECOVERY -Force -Confirm:$false
Then I created the storage folder for the Recovery Environment on this R: volume:
PS C:\Windows\system32> mkdir "R:\Recovery\WindowsRE"
Directory: R:\Recovery
Mode LastWriteTime Length Name
d----- 13.01.2015 20:15 WindowsRE
And copied the WinRE.wim file from the storage folder on the Windows partition:
PS C:\Windows\system32> xcopy /H E:\Windows\System32\Recovery\Winre.wim R:\Recovery\WindowsRE\
E:\Windows\System32\Recovery\winRE.wim
1 File(s) copied
Finally, I attempted to enable the copied WinRE and registed it in Windows like that:
PS C:\Windows\system32> ReAgentc.exe /setreimage /path R:\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /target E:\Windows
Directory set to: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk4\partition1\Recovery\WindowsRE
REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.
However, checking the status with Reagent returns that WinRE is DISABLED:
PS C:\Windows\system32> ReAgentc.exe /info /target E:\Windows
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configuration
Information:
Windows RE status: Disabled

REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.
And also:

Windows RE status: Disabled
Windows RE location:
Boot Configuration Data (BCD) identifier: 6a7e9cfb-700d-11e4-95e0-00155d095900
Recovery image location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk3\partition4\RecoveryImage
Recovery image index: 4
Custom image location:
Custom image index: 0
REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.
Why is that? What am I doing wrong here?
How do I properly prepare OS for recovery?
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...The target drive with location of WinRE.wim file MUST be NTFS formatted.
Here's what you need to do to enable WinRE.wim that is located on another partition (Partition 1 in my case):
1. Disable the current setup:
C:\Windows\system32>reagentc /disable
REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.
2. Check the status:
C:\Windows\system32>reagentc /info
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configuration

Recovery image location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk4\partition5\Recovery
Recovery image index: 1
Custom image location:
Custom image index: 0
REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.
3. Make sure that C:\Windows\System32\Recovery\ReAgent.xml contains zeroes in location elements.
This is a proper config:

If your phone is in recovery mode, then there are no data on the phone.
If you don't have an icloud or iTunes backup, then your data is gone. There is no place for you to restore your data back without a backup. -
