  • IPhone 3GS stuck in recovery mode, iTunes "Preparing iPhone for restore" nothing is happening.

When loading iTunes this morning an update that I had been putting off popped up and I figured since I was going to be in the house for a while I'd finally do it. An error took place that I foolishly ignored and made no note of.
My iPhone is now stuck in Recovery mode (I assume so anyway, after having googles my problem for hours), iTunes tells me I need to restore the phone and so I click to allow it to. It then gets to the "Preparing iPhone for restore" and just sits there, doing nothing.
I am unable to use my phone and I feel very much out of my depth as I have NO idea what to do. Any help (noob friendly) would be greatly appreciated.

I appear to have managed to fix the issue through googling the error code (rather than ignoring it this time), and figured I'd add the solution here for anybody in the future.
I simply moved my cable connecting my pc and iPhone to a USB port in the back of my computer rather than using the ones in the front and the process kicked off almost instantly without any further issues.

  • Problem recovering new iPhone 4, Stuck on "Preparing iphone for restore", then giving an error message

I recently bought an iPhone 4, and it worked just fine, until I tried to sync it with iTunes. Whenever I would try to sync it, it would stall somewhere in the process, and then an error message would come up eventually. It would say something along the lines of "Process timed out, Internal Harware error" or somthing like that, there were several error messages.
So then I tried to restore the phone. I did it through iTunes, and eventually the process stalled on the "Preparing iPhone for restore" part, and then it would give me an error message (4013). My phone is stuck on the connect to itunes screen. When I do connect it to iTunes it says that the phone is in recorvery mode and that and needs to be restored. So again, I try to restore it and it gets stalled in the "Preparing iPhone for restore" part. I have also recieved the 2005 error code. I have tried to fix it by unplugging all other USB's, using a different USB port, disabling firewalls ect.. I have the newest version of iTunes, and my phone is running 7.0.3 (Can't update now that the restore is necessary, and I couldn't update anyways because the same problem I had syncing it occured when I tried to update.) I have Windows XP.

Error 1 is a baseband error. If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take iPhone to Apple for resolution of this problem. If no coverage then search the Web for Error 1. Users have reported some success with this Error 1.

  • Preparing iphone for restore?!?! anyone else?!?!

ohkay, so as a lot of you, i have been updated my gen 1 iphone to v2.0. SO, just a quick question. it has been in the "preparing iphone for restore" for about, oh, an hour and a half-ish. what exactly does that mean? what is the phone doing as it is being prepared for restore?
fuuurthermore, i have an 8GB iphone with only about 1.22GB free... so is it normal that it is taking so long? i shouldnt unplug and replug, right???
    let me know

I got the same thing basically... 3g iphone, updated to software version 2.0.1 It returned an unknown error (6) and dropped my iPhone from iTunes. I got the "plug into iTunes" message on the phone and I started restore. Upon restore it hung up on "preparing iPhone for restore" for an hour, no movement of the progress bar, I disconnected it and plugged it in again, This happened 2 more times after a computer and iPhone reboot.
I read that it doesn't work well on usb 1.1, so I switched to a usb 2.0 port and it appears to be working, restore is almost complete. So, really, check your usb, make sure there is no hub connected and plug DIRECTLY into a usb 2.0 port... hopefully that helps!
If I have the option not to restore to 2.0.1 I will likely take that option... I've spent hours on this now and my intention for syncing was to update a playlist... Although I couldn't play music through my RAZR, I never spent hours (and lost the use of my phone on a Friday night) trying to make it work again... good luck to you.

Preparing your iPhone for restore its supposed to be about 1-2 minutes! Do you see any errors the time you plug in the wire from your iPhone to iTunes?

  • Preparing ipod for restore then error 1603

I've been trying to update my ipod touch 4G for 3 weeks. I download ios 5.0.1 and then tried to restore it manually. First i got the error 3194 and 2005. I tried changing host files, putting in DFU mode, using fixrecovery and so on n then those errors disppeared. But now everything's running smoothly until 'Preparing ipod for restore'. As soon as it starts, ipod went into recovery mode and that preparation stage would last around 4 mins and error 1603 or 1604 appeared. It's been going on for a long time and i find no solution. Plus i want to know if ipod normally goes into recovery mode when restoring cuz i've put it into DFU mode already.
My current ios is 4.1 and i m running window 7. Somebody pls help me?

    Did you try:
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Preparing iPhone for software update???

I just updated iTunes and tried syncing my iPhone. I then downloaded the new iPhone software update and it went to "preparing iPhone for software update." It's been like this for an hour now, and I can't do anything. I can't even close iTunes. Has this happened to anyone? How long did it take your phone to prepare for "software update"? What should I do? Help....

Spent 93 minutes on the phone with support. Could not solve the problem of getting out of the restore loop. As a last resort they said to use another computer to restore the iPhone. Went to my iMac and it worked, but back on my G4 I still can't sync to iTunes, Doesn't even open up when I plug in the phone!
And all my data was lost during the restore. Lot of people out there with this problem!!! hope theyn come up with a fix soon,

Ipad 4 won't turn on at all, and is recognized by itunes as being in recovery mode- when I try to restore it stalls on the portion stating "preparing device for restore" and on the page it says "itunes is restoring the software." Been like this for a day. I read the restore notes on apple, but this seems to be a little more unique than the standard recovery issues. Any ideas as to why I seem to keep stalling during the restore process?

Couple of things I can think of before going to the Apple store.
First, if you can, power off the iPad. Then connect it to the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Leave it there at least an hour then try to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
Also, you mentioned you have the latest iTunes. But it would be good to check the actual version. If the iPad is running iOS 7 you need iTunes 11.1 or later.
