Preparing my comp. for resale. need help.

I have a Fujitsu Media drive and a Matshita DVD R thing on my disk utilities, do I need to erase these also to prepare my computer for resale or just the mac hd?

If you created any additional partitions on the internal drive, you need to erase those as well. The DVD-R is a drive intended for CDs and DVDs; it doesn't contain any data of its own.

The internet is overflowing with tutorials on PSE. Just google what you want and include Photoshop Elements 4 as part of your search term, or go to the library and they may have several different books on PSE 4. For PSE 4, you won't find a mac specific book, but that doesn't matter because the editor is the same on either program. Just substitute Command for Ctrl and Option for Alt in the keystrokes, and ignore anything about the organizer.

I personally would not purchase either charger. I have seen many posts on this forum complaining about 'inexpensive' chargers and batteries for Apple MBPs. To purchase these 'knockoff' counterfeits is tantamount to throwing your money away. They may be 'refurbished' by a third party (something Apple does not do with chargers) but that would indicate that they failed before. Or they may be cheap imitations built to questionable standards.
You have spent a lot of money on your MBP, do not let it suffer a malfunction just to save $50. You may find that repairs might cost a lot more than that. Buy a real one from Apple as Ralph suggests.

Buying new PC for Adobe, need help

Hi everyone!
First thing, I apologise for my English, I hope you can understand my writing.
One of my best friends is photographer and graphic designer and she asked me for help buying a new PC because the old one broke (it was a laptop). She needs a desktop PC able to run Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, Maya and V-Ray. She is not an expert and she is still learning these technologies so I think she is not going to get the best out of these programs.
I´m IT technician so I know a little about hardware, but I don´t work with this kind of software, and I find their system requirements specifications too simple. Her budget is 1000$ (she also needs a monitor). I know this budget is limited for this kind of work and software, so I was thinking about an AMD PC, pretty powerful but much cheaper than an intel core i7 + nVIDIA GTX 770 + SSD solution (it was the first I thought but it´s definitely out of her budget). I would suggest her a PC with these specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8320 or FX-8350
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 280
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 2133 CL11 8GB (2x4GB) or DDR3 1600 8GB (2x4GB) -> 2 modules to take advantage of Dual-Channel.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB SATA3
PSU: Tacens Radix VII AG 700W 80 Plus Silver
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24" LED IPS
Considering the system requirements of the programs, I think there is going to be no problem with the CPU because the PC is going to run under Windows 7 SP1 64bits or Windows 8.1 64 bits and she is not going to run MAC and it´s SSE, SSE2, SSE3 and SSE4 capable, but I´m not sure about the GPU....
Is this PC incompatible with these programs or any of their functions?

Here are the issues:
1) The AMD CPUs that you listed are actually slower in Premiere Pro than even an Intel i5 CPU that lacks hyperthreading, let alone an i7 CPU.
2) Despite improvements in OpenCL support, Premiere's performance in OpenCL is still nearly two times slower than NVidia's CUDA with MPE's GPU-intensive modes. Because of that, the R9 280 is slower than a GeForce GTX 750 Ti – and may be as slow as a plain GTX 750 – in Premiere's MPEG GPU-accelerated mode. (In Windows versions of Premiere Pro CC or later, OpenCL is unavailable with an NVidia GPU installed, making CUDA the only GPU-accelerated mode available with an MVidia GPU.)
3) Your proposed build has only a single disk for absolutely everything – OS, programs, media cache, previews, media, projects and exports, all on the exact same single disk! That severely degraded performance due in large part to the single disk continually performing housekeeping tasks in addition to a gazillion other tasks. In fact, that single disk used in this way may very well be effectively six times slower than that disk is capable of performing – and disk performance these days is the biggest bottleneck in today's systems. Even the very fastest disks are the slowest part of a PC, and slowing that down by a factor of six is just plain foolish.

Connecting comp. to HDTV- need help w/ cables

I recently bought a Panasonic HDTV, an E3 series, and i want to hook it up to my macbook. My macs a little old, bought it in the spring of 08 so it's a macbook 4,1. I've already got the sound issue taken care of, and i was wondering what adapter i needed for an hdmi connection with the television? Any help would be awesome!

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

Best Quality too big for DVD. need help

I just completed a movie using iMovie. I compressed the movie as a Quicktime file at best quality and it is 6gb. I understand that this is too big for the 4.7gb dvd-r's i have.
I wanted to know the best way to get my movie to fit while still mainting the best possible quality. This project is very important and i need it to be able to play on a home dvd player tomorrow.
I'm using iDVD.
Can somebody please help me out.

My job for more then 20 years is communication, advertisement as an example. make the message in less then 8 words...

that is from my p.o.v crystal-clear..HOW is this done? easy: make project, click "iDVD" - BOOM! done... to quote the CEO of a small computer company...

funny enough, this forum is CROWDED with people, who don't own a driver's license, but try to explain, the car manufacturer has done big bugs, lots of mistakes, should fix that & this.- you CAN use a car, to boil eggs, iron your shirts and create a painting... but THAT would need a better understanding of how a car works.

I am not sure exactly what you want, but it seems that if a record has a time after 22:00 then it should be included on the next day. And any records that are not between 8:00am and 8:00pm on the previous day should not be reported on. Is this what you are after?

Error when compiling AppleScript for CS2, need help

I've recently started learning AppleScript, and while I'm no stranger to programming I'm a little lost when it comes to errors like this one. I have both InDesign CS2 and InDesign CS3 installed so I'm not sure if my problem is caused by that, they were installed before I started working on this mac. I've also been recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, in case that might be a probable cause.
Basically, my problem stems from this:

When I try to compile this I get a Syntax Error that says "Expected end of line but found class name." and highlights "document". I've also had problems trying to use things like "page 1" or "view preferences" with similar errors. With the case of things like "page 1" I've had to replace it with "item 1 of pages" to get it to compile.
If I change it to "Adobe InDesign CS3" it works fine, but I need to compile for CS2 for backwards compatability. Strangely, this method works:

    using terms from application "Adobe InDesign CS3"

    end using terms from
end tell
Does this mean my CS2 dictionary is broken? I can view it fine from the Script Editor, and I've seen things like "active document" used in example scripts, so this syntax error is confusing me.

I'm not sure why you're getting that error, but a couple of things:
Using "document 1" instead of "active document" is not a bad habit,
because there are cases where active document doesn't work.
When you compile the scripts, the version is somewhat irrelevant -- when
you go to run them, they look for a running application of the same creator
code, and use that. It's a bit like when you double-click on a document in
the Finder -- it doesn't matter what version of ID you made it in, it will
try to open in whatever version is running first.

Custom ALERT TONE for iphone need HELP please.

I understand how to create a custom TONE as an M4R file and import into itunes into the TONES library.
When i sync my TONES to my iPhone, it lists as a RING tone.
My custom ring tones, which are approximately 10 sec long work just fine when set as my RING tone for incoming calls.
HOWEVER ....
What i am DESPERATELY trying to do is create a custom ALERT tone and have it LIST as an ALERT tone in my phone and NOT a ring tone. Seems custom tones do not work for sms alerts.
I searched EVERYWHERE and can not seem to find an answer. I realize apple wants us all to BUY alert tones, but i should be able to create my own too no?
I created some custom alert tones, approximately 1 sec long each. Converted them to M4R files and sync'd them to my phone.
In my phone they appear under the RING TONES list and not ALERT TONES.
Maybe this dosent matter, however, when i try to set my TEXT ALERT SOUND to one of my custom ALERT tones, they do NOT work. My text messages come in without playing the sound.
Can ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME figure out how to properly create a TONE as an ALERT TONE for my iphone?

I've never been able to assign custom tones under alerts. It doesn't matter though as you can assign ringtones as alerts as of iOS 5 I believe. I had a similar issue with silent alerts, sometimes they would play, other times theywouldn't, but they would always play when selecting them under settings. Resetting all settings (not content) has so far fixed that issue for me. Try resetting your settings after you've synced your tones.

I've been using a third-party library called JDOM for well over two years and I highly recommend it for your XML processing needs. It recently reached its first productions release and is available for download at http://www.jdom.org.
