Preparing my FCP Quicktime movie for iDVD

Hi out there, can someone please explaine in detail what I have to do to a FCP Quicktime movie to prepare it for iDVD. Its 12 minutes long and 4.8GB. I tried putting it as is into iDVD and burning a DVD and the quality was bad. I presume I have to put it through Compressor?

How did you export the movie in the first place? Did you choose Quicktime Movie or Quicktime Conversion?

Compressor is a program and you want to use it to convert your movie into an mpeg file and an ac3 file. 2 files to drop into your DVD program. Now, I haven't used iDVD so i don't know what it's asking for but. DVDSP is really easy to use if you just wan tto make a DVD without a menu. this requires an mpeg2 file and ac3. this you can make in compressor. in FCP have your timeline with your sequence in it active. FILE>EXPORT>USING COMPRESSOR. in compressor you can use the DVD 90 minute setting to make these two files. you have to check the manual cause it's different on how to do this with diff versions.
once you have your files drop them in DVD SP asset box then drag them in the timeline. delete the menue blue box right click the green track box, select 'first play' build/burn button at the top and you're on your way.
sorry if this seems confusing, but dvd technology is funky. idvd is great for making easy template menus but if you want to just make a playable dvd wihtout menus, DVD SP is the way to go.

  • How do I prepare a FCP Quicktime movie for DVDSP?

Hi there, I'm a beginner at FCP and have a deadline of the morning to supply to a client a DVD with two videos I have just finished. My editor is sick. Could someone please take me through each step. I have produced FCP Quicktime videos of each film which are sitting on the desktop. I have dragged them both into Compressor but its asking me to "Drag Settings and Destinations Here" I don't know what setting and destinations they mean. Also, can you lead me on from there, please........

  • Problem with split screen quicktime movie to iDVD

hey folks, i've just spent two 6-hour renderings for naught and have the following problem:
    QT Pro 6.5.2
    iDVD 5
    OS 10.3.9
I pulled together a Quicktime movie consisting of talking head interview, then split screen (two clips simultaneously), back to talking head, then split screen again, etc etc.
the first time i rendered the composite Quicktime movie to iDVD, my split screen background was a sickly lime green color. blech
so, i added a black slide in TIFF format ONLY to the split screen video portions. played around with the Layers property until my split screen video clips were in front of the black background. recut and pasted my full Quicktime movie again.
However, upon my second iDVD rendering, a funny thing ocurred. Now, when the DVD gets to a split screen portion, the VERY LAST FRAME OF THE PREVIOUS TALKING HEAD CLIP freezes, and appears in the background of my split screen clips.
    What gives?
I plan to do some testing, but sure would like to shortcut this problem, it's eating away at my weekend and i need to get this project done.
thanks for any insight you can give

  • Help Please ::: Quicktime .mov into iDVD 5 playback or encode problem issue

Originally Imageready files burned into Quicktime. Importing Quicktime .mov into iDVD results in project which looked great in preview, but after burning images were elongated, flattened. I am stumped, especially given preview results would indicate no such problems but unsure where to analyze on the DVD burn end to check. Any tips on what/where to check? Have tried re-importing original ImageReady (Photoshop) files into new Quicktime .mov (original project was done on OS 9 fyi). But no change in results.. any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't privy to the process that converted these files originally but suspected the theory on compression/codec initially used.. may re-convert. Also will try Disk Imaging... seems that this is not an uncommon problem in the iDVD 5 world...

make sure you have sufficient drive space on your target drive.  Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free space on your startup drive.  What format is the original quicktime movie?

  • FCP Quicktime movie files not working with iDVD

I have been using iDVD for years with no issues. Now, whenever I export a QT file from FCP 7 and use it in iDVD, I get a blank screen with audio and no video.
I am able to work around the problem by using "Export Using Qucktime Conversion" and creating a smaller file, but I've never had to do that before. What in the world am I missing here? Shouldn't I be able to export as a QT movie, as long as the file is not gigantic? (the most recent one I used and had this problem occur was only about 500mb). Thanks for any help...
    Ben

    Hmmm,
Well this is helpful information but unfortunately didn't solve my problem. The movie in question is only 5 1/2 minutes long. When I export it as a QT movie, iDVD "acts" like everything is fine; I can preview it within iDVD, etc.But when I burn the disc, it comes out blank. I then went back to FCP and exported it using QT conversion, and the DVD burned just fine. (I exclusively use Taiyo Yuden media and have never had a bad disc).
This is just a simple 16:9 movie, shot at 720/30p on a Canon DSLR. I ingested with Log and Transfer using ProRes422, then dropped it onto the timeline, added a music track, rendered, and exported as Quicktime movie. It looks great on my desktop using the QT player, but it simply will not work in iDVD.  Still stuck here...

  • FCP Quicktime Movies works well in iDVD, but not in DVDSP

    Hello,
I work in a film school with several iMac & PowerMac editing suites running Final Cut Studio 2.
Every computer is set up exactly the same way, yet we are having odd problems with DVDSP on one of the PowerMacs.
From FCP6, we export self contained quicktime movies, that we then Compress, and then import into DVDSP. This system works well on all of our new iMacs, but on the 3 year old PowerMac, the resultant DVDs that it burns do NOT playback on any DVD Players at all.
Yet strangely, when I take the same QT Movie into iDVD on that computer, it burns a perfectly good DVD.
I have even tried bringing the QT Movie files and Compressor files from the Power Mac and transfer them onto an iMac and have been able to burn them fine that way as well. This is occurring with all the FCP projects on this computer.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Sincerely,
    Marc Griffin

It could be a few things, but it may be that the drive itself is dirty or going. It sounds strange but there were people on the board who ran into issues where they could burn the DVD but not play it back on the same drive. Could be something became corrupted. Also people have noticed some strange things happening if an install of Studio 2 was done over a prior installation - it seemed to be most reliable by doing a fresh OS install then installing 2. Also does the computer have all the updates to the software? Are all the computers running the same OS? Have you deleted prefs and repaired permissions?
Also check your settings on the PowerMac, are you doing a proper build/burn? Did you set a first play? Are you using the same type of media?

  • Keynote to quicktime movie to iDVD, no sound on dvd

I know this has been asked a million times, however I (a relatively recent Mac convert) absolutely can't believe that Apple would not allow this to work.
I have a keynote slideshow with music. I "send to iDVD" as well as "export" into a quicktime movie. Resultant files are movie and soundtrack. I bring into iDVD. Sound plays in iDVD. Burn dvd from iDVD, no sound on dvd.
C'mon, the instructions are there, the menus are there. Apple can't expect us to "import into iMovie, match movie and soundtrack" or "burn using disk utility" or otherwise do anything other than take a keynote and make it in to a dvd.
Worst case, can I just burn a CD or DVD that automatically plays the keynote with sound and doesn't have the cool DVD Menu?
Again, sorry for the "same old question", however I have not found a fix that worked nor do I believe that Apple means for this to be so difficult.
For those experts out there that have seen this question before, I really have spent a significant amount of time researching the problem and haven't found a fix that worked or an official response from Apple.
    Thanks again.

I am not running this on an intranet, I am creating a video for my students and posting it to my Internet web page. So if I were to post the keynote file itself, 4/5 of my students would be unable to open it because they don't have Macs. Some do not even have desktop computers and view stuff on their smart phones. I solved the issue, at least partially, by saving the presentation as html and posting it to my site that way. It works but it is a bit buggy. Would still rather make it into a movie.

  • NEED THE BEST QUALITY QUICKTIME MOVIE FOR DVD!  THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE.

I just finished a three minute piece that will be shown on DVD and projected to a sixteen foot screen. I usually just output a self-contained quicktime movie with current settings and then compress with bitvice. While I'm happy with those results, because of the size of this screening, I'm curious whether there might be better options for output to quicktime, such as uncompressed, etc?
I've also heard that I could output as a Jpeg, or a PNG file, but I'd love some advice on what works best and the workflow, as I need to get this done fast and can't really afford the time to experiment.
Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated. THANKS1

That will provide the best quality ... the quality won't improve over what you had in FCP. Depending on your source media type(s), you may have had a better quality export IF you had edited and rendered with another setting.

  • Nightmares exporting 16:9 movie for iDVD

I keep running into the same problem at the end of my projects. I'm editing in PAL 16:9 in FCE, and everything looks great on screen. I want to export the movie into iDVD. If I use the standard Export-> Quicktime option it keeps ending up in 3:4. This seems to happen with every export I do no matter what options I choose!
I've managed to export it into a DV file win 16:9 format, and it plays in widescreen in QTPro and in funder preview, and this has worked in iDVD, but it doesn't import the chapter markers, which I really want to have. (I am using 16:9 iDVD templates and have checked the project is in 16:9).
I've spent hours today trying to get the movie to export right and work in iDVD and can't get a perfect solution. Can anyone give me the right settings once and for all?!?!
    Thanks

  • Quicktime Movies in iDVD

I have a G5 and iDVD 4.0.1. For some reason I cannot get it to burn films that I export from Final Cut Pro to Quicktime movies. Any ideas why this might happen would be most approeciated.

I drop the file into iDVD from the desktop. What happens is it gets stuck on step 4 - there is no error message it just acts like it's burning forever and ever. When you cancel and take the DVD out, it has not burned at all.

  • Quicktime Movies to iDVD

I have a number of short Quicktime movies. Is there a way to piggyback them into iDVD and burn so I have several of them on a disc??
    Jack

would it speed up the decoding process by having the Quicktimes on the computer's hard drive first?
iDVD use you boot (system) hard drive for scratch space during the encoding process. You keep plenty of free space (15 to 25 GB) free on this disk just for iDVDs use. In many cases, with large projects, this means you will need to keep your source video material on an external drive(s).
I suspect (although I've never tested it) that keeping plenty of free space on your system drive will speed the encoding process up more than putting your source material on a crowded system drive. Use an external drive if you have it.
