Preparing Overhead Presentation

I'm preparing an overhead presentation for this afternoon, using my 2.33 GHz MacBook Pro and the Apple-spec DVI-to-VGA video adaptor. Another organization is hosting the presentation, and a local government is supplying an ordinary VGA-style projector.
I have never connected my MacBook Pro to a projector before. I have done this with someone else's (first-generation) MacBook using an adaptor. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the MacBook Pro's video circuits are different than a MacBook's. I understood the MacBook to project mirroring video only, with the MacBook Pro displays a "second monitor" situation.
I will be using iPhoto to show a video slideshow. How does that work with a MacBook Pro connected via VGA to a conector? Does it become a "mirror" of the laptop's on-board display?

I understood the MacBook to project mirroring video only, with the MacBook Pro displays a "second monitor" situation.
Both the MacBook and MacBook Pro can run a secondary display in either "mirroring", where the external display matches what's on the laptop's screen, or "extended desktop" where the two screens are independent.
I will be using iPhoto to show a video slideshow. How does that work with a MacBook Pro connected via VGA to a conector? Does it become a "mirror" of the laptop's on-board display?
If you set the MacBook Pro to "Mirror Displays" in the Displays -> Arrangement system preference, then the projector's screen will be a "mirror" of the MBP's screen. Note that if you use "mirroring", you need to set the MBP's display preference to match the resolution of the projector.
Regards.

  • I have a problem with Powerpoint 2011 for Mac.  I began preparing a presentation and everything was working just fine.  At some point I switched away from presenter view and then back at which point the next slide had disappeared, never to be seen again.

    Did I inadvertently hit some key that blocked out the preview slide?  If so, what do I do to get it back? My presentation is on Thursday so I would appreciate any help you can give me.  Thanks.

  • I can not import to iPad from iTunes some of my presentations.

    I cannot import to iPad from iTunes some of my presentations. I get this message:"Presentation couldn’t be imported. An error occurred." That's it? I am blank off at Steve. Why cannot I simply drag and drop like any other decent software can from my saved presentations on my HD to appropriate directory in iPad? I have spent countless hours preparing those presentations. OK, let me think. I am going to do them over, spent so more countless hours just to find out that I cannot import them. Funny thing is that I never seen error doing something useless like playing game. Iam steaming.
    I am looking in to Samsung products; maybe this error will help me to make the right decision. They are using open source Android, nothing like this secretive bull, oh my Got someone will try to steal my billions.

    Wow, because you have created presentations that obviously have an error in them and so they cannot be used by the iPad, it is Steve's fault.
    Sell your iPad to someone more deserving of its magic and get a Samsung imitation. That is if you can still find one to buy. If you had jumped the HP tablets were marked down just before HP threw in the towel on them.

  • How to convert Keynote presentation to PowerPoint, w/o losing formating?

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook with iWork 08. I love creating presenations in Keynote, but when I export to Powerpoint and then try to run the presentation on my Windows XP (work) PC, the presentation is misconfigured with fonts running off the screen and picures misaligned. Animations also seem inconsistent. Is there any way that I can lock these configurations in iWork so it will pass them exactly to Windows PowerPoint? Does iWork '09 provide this?

    when I export to Powerpoint and then try to run the presentation on my Windows XP (work) PC, the presentation is misconfigured with fonts running off the screen and picures misaligned. Animations also seem inconsistent.
    Why in the wide, wide wonderful world would you want to prepare a presentation with the particular appearance you want in a particular application and then proceed to complain that you cannot have that particular appearance in another application?
    If what you want is to preserve appearance, then use an application-independent portable page description model. There is one built into Mac OS X. It's called the Adobe Portable Document Format and while it has its problems, preserving appearance is not one of those problems.
    The whole idea these days is NOT to have to buy Microsoft Office in order to interchange digital documents. Instead of everyone buying Microsoft Office, everyone selects an intermediate and application-independent format for interchange. ISO has published two such sets, one set for content interchange (ODF and OOXML) and one set for appearance interchange (PDF). ECMA is working on a second appearance interchange format (XPS).
    Acrobat in the free Windows version will image your PDF presentation.

  • Can Preview be made to offer a Presenter Display much as Keynote?

    When in "play" mode, Keynote offers a highly valued feature known as +Presenter Display+ that shows the current plus the next presentation slide on the computer screen side by side while, at the same time, driving a beamer connected to the display port with the current slide in full screen mode. +What I am looking for is an analogous function in Preview.+
    Reason: I am routinely using LaTeX to prepare scientific presentations (and texts) in .pdf format, and this cannot be changed for various reasons. Keynote does not support importing an entire presentation in .pdf format and Adobe Professional offers no Presenter Display facility. So I am out of luck and forced to deliver my lessons and talks in the old way without being able to see the upcoming slide, which is far from optimal if one has collected thousands of slides over the years.
    Any help is greatly appreciated. In case there were no solution with the current tool set, I would like to see this understood as an enhancement request by Apple. Thank you!

  • Presentation only on one Monitor?

    I am preparing a Presentation for 2 Beamers (Left & Right).
    But also the new Keynote Provides only one Monitor Output 8(.
    I cant present my Stage 1600x600 on my two Monitor Outputs
    (Left 800x600, Right 800x600 ).
    I have tryed the Matrox TripleHead2Go - but this provides only 60Hz.
    And i need 50Hz.
    Only way is to Export the complete Presentation as a Movie.
    But then i can only Postion this Movie by Hand over the 2 Monitor Desktop.
    What seems me a little bit unproffessional.
    Maybe there is a utility which configured 2 Outputs to one Desktop Window.
    So you can see the OS X Menue Bar on top over 2 Monitors.
    Thanks for any Help,
    Toby

    Hello Justin -
    What do you have the monitor layout set to, Configuration > Video > Monitors?
    If you want both outputs to mimic each other, you want to use single.  However, if you have it setup to use dual, then you'll only get the far-end on the first monitor, and on the second will be selfview and presentation content.  It sounds like you have it set to dual, you could if you wanted, put the selfview on the second monitor when presentation isn't being sent by configuring the following:
    Configuration > Video > SelfviewDefault FullscreenMode > On
    Configuration > Video > SelfviewDefault OnMonitorRole > Second
    Could it have been that it was working sometime before and you might have been running TC5 or earlier software.  Starting with TC6 and later, the selfview behavior changed, and became more customizable, however it made all the selfview options need to be set by the user, esspecially if they were using dual screens.  Details about the monitor and selfview options can be found in the SX10 admin guide, starting around pg 114-115.
    Something else to check is, what is the monitor roles set to, Configuration > Video > Output > HDMI # > MonitorRole?
    If you have the monitor layout set to single, then both roles should be First, if dual, then HDMI 1 is First, and HDMI 2 is Second.

  • Sharing a keynote presentation?

    A group of us at work are preparing a presentation amd will be using keynote for the first time.. However we will be preparing our parts of the presentation seperately. Can we somehow use icloud (even if i have to give them my password etc) so they can access the presentation to work on using their ipad, or will i have to give them my ipad so they can do their parts. They are both work ipads, so i have no bother giving them accessing my icloud as it is only work things on the ipad.

    If you use the same icloud - you should have no problem to do that. As long as you are connected to wifi, your and their ipad keynotes will be updated.

  • Preparing Connect meeting

    I need time to setup my connect meeting with content. I do not expect to be charged for setting up my pods and arranging them prior to the meeting. My question: How do I prevent from being charged for preparing my presentation? I expect to be charged when someone enters the meeting room.

    If you are using the pay per use model from the adobe.com webside, then preping your meeting would be using your room and you will be charged. For all other licensing options (monthly subscription from adobe.com or annual subscription from a reseller) there is not charge for use.

  • Resizeable Presentation Setup for Video and 3D

    I want to be able to have a slide show that integrates still images, text, video and 3D. I use InDesign but it is pretty constraining. PowePoint and the like have similar constraints.
    I can assemble a simple presentation in Flash with video integrated, etc.  but it is usually impossible to predict the resolution of the projector I will be using. Hence my question:
    How can I build a Flash presentation template that I shall be able to conveniently reuse and that will be resizeable?
    Option 1. Is it possible to make Flash to scale the stage and all content proportionately, like PowerPoint or Acrobat can do (with black areas if the screen ratios are different)?
    Option 2. What is the reasonable path for making resizeable/edjustable content? I looked at this (starling + feathers)
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/designing-multidevice-multiresolution.edu.html
    I like the use of Stage 3D but these frameworks do not seem like a good match. It is slow to modify the content (I need to be making new presentation reguraly) and I shall not be using most of the functionality. It could work if I build several types of pages and reuse them maybe but I suspect a simpler way should exist.
    Thank you for pointers and advice,
    Maya

    This function will get you far:
    function goScaledFullScreen()
        var screenRectangle:Rectangle = new Rectangle(0,0,stage.stageWidth,stage.stageHeight);
        stage.fullScreenSourceRect = screenRectangle;
        stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;
        stage.quality = StageQuality.BEST;
    Independent of your actual monitor resoulution it will scale up any content you might load via loader to the full screen resolution.
    It has its limits though: On a Mobile device it won`t reorganize the content if you rotate the device from Landscape to Portrait. Also if you have content that is off-stage you might have to employ masks if the Monitors aspect ratio differs from your presentation one`s.
    You can use the Capabilities class to get the actual ResolutionX/ResolutionY of the device that runs your presentation.
    You might want to somehow inform your presentation if the resolution gets changed via the Resize Event
    If size is not an issue you might prepare your presentation in the best Quality possible (for example HD) because downsizing works in general much better (qualitywise) than upsizing.

  • Keynote Skin for iOS presentations

    Hi Folks
    There is one thing that bothers me every time that I build a keynote presentation and send it to my iPad. As you all may know, there are several desktop keynote features that gets lost on translation.
    If I look harder, I will probably find some guideline that tells me what feature I should and should not use to import my presentations to iPad. However, I think it would be much easier if Apple had some kind of skin selector or presentation template that would turn the desktop keynote into a mobile presentation builder. This way, the user would only see the features and transitions that can be properly imported to mobile keynote.
    This would be very helpful. This way I'd not spend a lot of time preparing a presentation just to find out that all the hard work is lost in translation and I have to customize it all over again for iPad presentation.
    Would this make sense? Is there any current solution for this that I'm not aware of?
    Thanks
    -Luciano

    I would check with the [iPad Keynote forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1369], they may be able to help you better as we don't all have an iPad in this forum.

  • [solved] Presentation with movies

    Hi guys,
    in the next weeks I will have to prepare a presentation which will have regular slides but also movies as part of the slides.
    I've been trying to add movies to OpenOffice Impress, I managed to install the Java Media Framework but I couldn't install jffmpeg on it as it seems not supported under x86_64..
    So, the only thing I've been able to add on an OpenOffice Impress presentation is an MPEG1 video file whose I only ear the sound.. video doesn't display.
    It really looks that Impress support for videos is poor.
    So, what do you guys suggest? Do you know of other ways of adding videos to OpenOffice Impress?
    Other alternative ways of doing that?
    Thank you,
    Fabio Varesano

    It turned out that Okular does supports movies in a PDF presentation made with Latex beamer. Great!
    Example code for a slide with a movie:
    \frame{\frametitle{FreeIMU on a quadcopter}
    \begin{center}
    \movie[width=4in, height=2.8in, showcontrols=true]{}{4copter_freeimu.avi}
    \end{center}
    The file "4copter_freeimu.avi" have to be in the same folder of the resulting PDF file.
    Thanks everybody for your help!
