Preparing the harddrive for installation?

I cannot seem to find out how I have to prepare the harddrive for the installation of Solaris 8...
Does it have to be totally blank? (No partitions)
Do I have to create partition(s) before installing?
If so do they need to be FAT16 or FAT32?
And do I have to format them or leave them unformatted?
Any hints?

If you are on a SUN hardware, U need not have to format the disk before installation. Just check out weather the machine has detected the hard drive by probe-scsi OR probe-ide at the "ok" prompt. The installation procedure by itself involves partitioning the disk as per the requirement:)

So we just got a new Macbook and I also installed the apple configurator tool. I'm using it to prepare the iPads for deployment and it won't let me prepare them? It gets an error stating "retrieving iOS info from apple" then it stops and says "internet error". My Internet connection is fine with the Mac-book. It shows the iPad is listed under the Prepare logo up top as 1 but under supervise none are shown. Although it does show itself in iTunes. Also the profile I created is fresh and has no errors. We have tryed nearly everything I cna think of and online forums are not giving us to much info on this error.

A wag at this.  A port issue?

To send notifications from an MDM server to Apple Push Notification service, TCP port 2195 needs to be open. To reach the feedback service, TCP port 2196 will need to be open as well. For devices connecting to the push service over Wi-Fi, TCP port 5223 should

Try it on your home network where there isn't a lot of 'controls' -- network filtering , firewalls, etc.

  • Partitioning the Harddrive for a scratch disk for CS1 & CS2

    Hello all...
I need to see if there is a way to partition the harddrive on the work macs for the use of a scratch disk. We have a dual 2.0 G5 and a Quad.
The only thing is the fact that there are tons of materials on these macs as we are a advertising agency and are in the process of migrating all workable files to a new mac server that was ordered this week.
Can this be done without wiping the HD first?
Our apps mainly CS1 on some machines and CS2 on the Quad seem to run a tad bit slow. Could this be to not having a scratch disk for these adobe programs.
Or should we wait until the server has arrived and then just reformat the machines at that time?
    Please help guys.

Never partition the boot drive. Even if it is used for scratch (and even if you set another drive for primary scratch the boot drive will still be used some). Keep your boot drive free of everything else except the system and applications.
Order some RAM, order a 2nd drive for each system. And a dedicated scratch disk - meaning you would need a 2 or 4-channel SATA host adapter for PCI-X.
You might want to use WD's 10K 150GB Raptor for boot drive (and yes, it works just fine on the DC/Quad G5s). The 10K 74GB Raptor makes a nice disk also and could also be used for scratch disks in a RAID. Use your original OEM drive just for local data.

The above article and benchmark test utility can help determine what to expect.
I would speculate that you need a minimum of 4-6GB RAM, and 8-10GB of RAM might be in order; along with a 2-4-8 drive RAID as well.

In the Pages Program template on the 4 column page a text is wrapped around a violinist.
How do I have to prepare the photo to have a similar result.
    Thanks

You need to have an image with a more or less even background or at least contrasting to the main part.
Menu > Format > Instant Alpha > run the cursor over the parts you want to eliminate
With the image selected > Inspector > Wrap > check Image causes wrap > click on 2nd icon > Text Fit > 2nd icon
Play with Extra Space and Alpha to get what you want.

  • How to prepare hard drive for installation of  PSE 13 upgrade

I would like to run PSE 13 upgrade on a notebook where I have PSE 5 installed. Should I uninstall PSE 5 before installing PSE 13?
How should I prepare my hard disk for the installation?  I have found that uninstall programs leave files be hind. Does Adobe have a cleaning tool?
The notebook is a Dell, Latitude E6400, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.27GHz, 2 GB RAM
32-bit Operating System, Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1

Thank's for your reply - nice to know that they are independent operations.    I appreciate your thought about the 30 day trial, however I already made the purchase.
Here is the rest of my plan - please advise what you think.  I have a desktop computer with a 64-bit CPU and two 500 GB SATAs.  I thought I would create a virtual PC and run Vista in it.  Then I install PSE 5.

  • Preparing the Oracle Media Installation File

I am using job roles for the RAC installation. The following users and directories for the RAC installation are created:
asm user as Oracle ASM software owner
crs user as Oracle Clusterware software owner
oracle user as Oracle Database with RAC option owner
    /u01/app/crs -----> Oracle Clusterware 11g
    /u01/app/asm ----> Oracle Automatic Storage Management 11g
/u01/app/oracle ---> Oracle Database 11g EE with RAC option
If I use an Oracle Media Installation Area then it required to do the following? Would it be a best practice?
    mkdir -p /stage/crs/11.1.0
    mkdir -p /stage/asm/11.1.0
    mkdir -p /stage/oracle/11.1.0
Copy the zip files to this staging directory
    - Oracle Clusterware to /stage/crs/11.1.0
    - Oracle Database 11g EE to /stage/asm/11.1.0
    - Oracle Database 11g EE to /stage/oracle/11.1.0
Unzip Oracle Clusterware (/stage/crs/11.1.0) as crs
Unzip Oracle Database 11g EE (/stage/asm/11.1.0) as asm
Unzip Oracle Database 11g EE (/stage/oracle/11.1.0) as oracle
Since I have a separate ASM user and matching directory for the ASM software, do I need to unzip a separate set of the Oracle Database 11g EE installation software for it to install correctly?

Since I have a separate ASM user and matching directory for the ASM software, do I >>>need to unzip a separate set of the Oracle Database 11g EE installation software for it >>>to install correctly? You don't need to. You can very well re-use the single 11g unziped software and use it for RDBMS and ASM - provided different users (asm and oracle in your case) have execute privileges.

  • How do I clean out my hardrive and prepare the tower for selling it?

I have a freind who's going to buy the tower from me; I want to completely erase and clean the unit so he can do a clean install as I did when I bought it.
Can anyone send me a link to the support page???
    Anyone done this???

Hi, and welcome to the Discussions!
Boot to the install disc. When the Installer finishes loading, select and launch Disk Utility from the menubar. (If your using a Tiger install disc, select your preferred language first so you can get access to the menubar.) Highlight the drive on the left side of the Disk Utility window. Choose the Ersae tab on the right side, name the volume HD Mac, choose mac OS Extended as the format, click on the Options button (Security Options button in Tiger) and then check the box to overwrite zeros to the drive.
This will do two things: It will place zeros in each location on the drive, overwriting and destroying any data that may be there now. It also has the added benefit of mapping out any bad blocks which may have developed over time, preventing their future use and precluding them from corrupting data.
When the process is finished (which could take up to several hours, depending on the size of the drive), quit Disk Utility and commence the installation of OS X. When you get to the point where it instructs you to restart, just power down instead. The new owner will then be presented with the Setup Assistant when the Mac is next booted to OS X, allowing him to cleanly set up the initial admin account.
You can do this with the original install discs if you desire. Don't forget to provide your friend with a complete set of original install discs, to include the additional software discs, iLife, OS 9, and the Apple Hardware Test disc, if it shipped with these.
You can also just install Tiger, as above, providing him with the Tiger install disc and the original disc set as well.

  • How do I prepare the environment for ARD?

I'm planning to construct the ARD environment for a small company.
I want to know the environment what is needed for it, especially "hardware" when it will be made by minimum construction.
The company have 30macPC on several network segments(I estimate it about 10 network segments).
I hope someone will give me some helpful advices!

There's no special "environment" needed, though if you plan to be observing multiple workstation screens at once, it's strongly recommended to have at least a 100BaseT Ethernet connection with a gigabit connection preferred. Otherwise any network suitable for other uses will probably be fine for ARD. For technical specifications, features and system requirements, see:
    http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/specs.html
You may also want to read the Administrator's Guide:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ARD_3.1_AdminGuide.pdf
Note that there is no client for Windows systems. You can take control of a Windows system from ARD if you install VNC on the Windows workstation, but there will be no other functionality.
    Regards.

  • What is the "password" for installer?

I'm trying to attach my HP printer wirelessly to my home net.  It's a new Apple machine, of course.

    What model is the printer?
Are you being prompted for a password when installing the printer on your Mac computer?
If so, this should be the same password you would use to log in to your OS X system.
At some point, this feature was added to OS X for an added measure of security.  This prevents malicious programs from installing without any interaction from the user.

  • What is the location for installation files in Siebel?

    Hi,
I have downloaded the Siebel Tools software and it is showing in the form of a jar file "SBA_8.1.1.0_enu_Windows_Siebel_Tools.jar". And while trying to extract them, it is having a big path like
    D:\Tools\V1539101\SBA_8.1.1.0_enu_Windows_Siebel_Tools\Windows\Client\Siebel_Tools\Disk1\stage\langs\en\Disk1\stage\......
But, I couldn't able to find the set-up file to install Siebel tools. Please tell me the exact location to install Siebel Tools and "*What is the edition to be downloaded for a newbie in Siebel to work on Sample Database?*".
    Note:
Same in the case of Client and sample also.
    Thanks

    Hi Ram,
Sorry but I am not following your question at all.
Why don’t you do this the right way and follow the detailed instructions in the Siebel Bookshelf?
