Preparing to configure windows message
Hi. My Toshiba Satellite laptop is stuck with the message "Praparing to configure Windows - Don't turn off your computer". How do I fix it??
Sounds like you were either in the shutdown or powering up phase after a Windows update that required a restart. I would do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 8 seconds or so or until the computer shuts completely down. Wait a few seconds and turn the Power back on.
Just go with the flow when it powers back up. It may do so normally or it may immediately try to install the updates again and if it does, let it try and see what happens.
If you ever come back here again for any help, please include your complete model and OS info as in my examples below and explain your situation thoroughly.
Good Luck!

when opening my laptop it is always stuck on starting windows screem ( the screen with windows logo )
You need to reach the recovery environment.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
When you get there, try a Startup Repair. Sometimes it takes several tries.
If that doesn't work, do a System Restore.
And there are other things to try as well.

Hi,
I have Hp DL380G7 with 2011 SBS
it took very long time to log to the desktop when ever i restart the server.
now
i shutdown the server, then start it again since 2 hours , till now it show me
(preparing to configure windows) Do not turn off your computer.
what should be done and what should i consider so i do not face such problem later
thank youHi fatem,
Before going further, would you please let me confirm something more?
Can you remember which operation had been done, then this issue occurred firstly? Installed some updates or any other operation?
When this issue occurred, please check if you can ping and RDP to this SBS 2011 standard.
On current situation, it’s hard to say the root cause of this issue. I suggest that you can restart the SBS
2011 standard in Safe Mode with Networking and check if this issue still persists.
If more details you can find, please feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps.

Preparing to configure Windows... for 13 hours now
I reinstalled Windows 7 for reasons that could be explained in an entirely separate thread.
Anyway, Windows 7 is stuck on the "stage 3 of 3 Preparing to configure Windows" screen and has been since late last afternoon. So for a good 13 hours.
I'm not supposed to turn the computer off...
So do I wait until the world comes to an end or do I have other options?
Yes, this is happening after running MS Update after the reinstall.
We really don't have this kind of time to waste. This was a GREAT tip. I only waited about 15 minutes before using Google to find this answer. Once I pressed
Crtl+Alt+Del to log in, there was an additional update to be done. It proceeded as it should have, and all is well. Thank you for saving me alot of time and frustration.

Ocassional slow start up with Preparing Windows message
I have a new Toshiba C855D Satellite laptop that came with Windows 8.
On about three ocassions now, when I turn on the computer to boot up, it takes a lot longer than usual... then eventually it shows the message "Preparing Windows." After that happens I get on and see my front page/start screen almost empty like it's in a default state with just Toshiba icon and some other few things.
I sign out and resign onto my user name and everything is back to normal.
I think the last thing I did prior to this last incident happening was using Windows Update, then shutting down after it was updated/installed. Could this be related?
What is causing these two issues (long boot time with Preparing Windows message, then the having to sign out and sign back in to access my regular start screen/desktop,etc?
Thanks for the help.Satellite C855D-S5116
So this is an out of the ordinary problem and not some Windows update/Win 8 issue?
We don't know. But a new machine should just work. I returned a Windows 8 machine to Best Buy recently for problems very much like you described.
You don't need another drive. Restore the machine this way.
Settings > Change PC settings > General tab > Remove everything and reinstall Windows

I have taken the following steps based on research without success:
Restarted the box - try again
Complete shutdown - try again
verified with my VMWare admins that there is no 'Secure Boot' or similar option set on the VM
Shutdown wuauserv, renamed SoftwareDistribution, started the service back up, reattempt
installed, but did not enable/configure, BitLocker Drive Encryption feature
sfc /scannow - no errors found
dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth and /scanhealth - neither found any issues
verified that the 'System Reserved Partition' is the correct size (350MB) and has free space (115MB)
deactivated the OS license, reactivated the OS license - no change
Pointed to the MS Windows Update servers instead of local WSUS
I have a little flexibility in how I repair this box. Given that DC functionality is unaffected and that this specific DC is not used heavily I want to try to repair it rather than wipe it out and rebuild it. I have not yet attempted to run updates on our
other, non-Read-Only DCs. If I run in to the same problem on them, I won't have as much leeway so I want to try to come up with a repair process if needed. I also have some concern regarding my ability to demote it from it's DC role given its current state.
There is nothing to indicate that that would also be a problem, but I would prefer to get it in working order before attempting a demotion.
Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Getting error while preparing to send sharing message
I have seen many people post up about this same error, however I am going to share some details in the troubleshooting I have performed.
Environment: Exchange 2013. Cloud hosted. Internet connectivity using any number of clients. Mostly OWA, but a few Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013.
1. User A with Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013 right clicks on the calendar and clicks "Share" -> "Share Calendar". They look up User B in the Global Address List and click "Send." An error window pop-up states "Error while
preparing to send sharing message." User A is able to click on Calendar Permissions and add User B to the correct permissions. User A with OWA is able to right click on the calendar and click "Share Calendar" and it will send the message, no
errors.
2. User B with Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013 on the same computer that User A was trying to do this from right clicks on the calendar and clicks "Share" -> "Share Calendar". They look up User A in the Global Address List and click "Send".
No errors and the message goes through fine. It works correctly with OWA as well.
I have seen people put up "autodiscover" and "permissions" or other things. This is obviously not a permission issue because the same thing that can be accomplished in OWA can't be accomplished in Outlook. It isn't an autodiscover issue
because the same thing that one person can accomplish on a computer/Outlook, another cannot. This is the same error that I have seen since the time of Outlook 2007 and have yet to see a valid solution.
Thanks,
DonHi Don,
Hope it is the solution:
You can't share your calendar in Outlook 2007

Can't install Win 8 updates - Failure Configuring Windows
Win 8, 32bit
There is no way I can go through an update I keep getting a "failed "message after attempting installation. On reboot the comp hangs when trying to configure and I have to reboot which ultimately gives the message "failure configuring windows update, reverting
changes, do not turn off your computer. I also tried to install multiple updates manually and I get the same problem every single time.
My Win 8 install was an upgrade from Win7.
I'm really stuck and would appreciate your help.Arturo
ArturoHi,
Also you can try these tests:
1
Download and install the System Update Readiness tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
2 Reset Windows Update components:

As we all know,
the Windows Server Essentials Experience role is available in Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter. We can add the Windows Server
Essentials Experience role in Server Manager or via Windows PowerShell.
In this article, we introduce the steps to install and configure Windows
Server Essentials Experience role on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard via PowerShell locally and remotely. For better analyze, we divide this article into two parts.
Before installing the Windows Server Essentials Experience Role, please use
Get-WindowsFeature
PowerShell cmdlet to ensure the Windows Server Essentials Experience (ServerEssentialsRole) is available. (Figure 1)
Figure 1.
Part 1: Install Windows Server Essentials Experience role locally
Add Windows Server Essentials Experience role
Run Windows PowerShell as administrator, then type
Add-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole cmdlet to install Windows Server Essentials Experience role. (Figure 2)
Figure 2.
Note: It is necessary to configure Windows Server Essentials Experience (Post-deployment Configuration). Otherwise, you will encounter following issue when opening Dashboard.
(Figure 3)
Figure 3.
2. Configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role
(1) In an existing domain environment
Firstly, please join the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard computer to the existing domain through the path:
Control Panel\System\Change Settings\”Change…”\Member of. (Figure 4)
Figure 4.
After that, please install Windows Server Essentials Experience role as original description. After installation completed, please use the following command to configure Windows
Server Essentials:
Start-WssConfigurationService –Credential <Your Credential>
Note: The type of
Your Credential should be as: Domain-Name\Domain-User-Account.
You must be a member of the Enterprise Admin group and Domain Admin group in Active Directory when using the command above to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 5)
Figure 5.
Next, you can type the password for the domain account. (Figure 6)
Figure 6.
After setting the credential, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 7)
Figure 7.
By the way, you can use
Get-WssConfigurationStatus
PowerShell cmdlet to
get the status of the configuration of Windows Server Essentials. Specify the
ShowProgress parameter to view a progress indicator. (Figure 8)
Figure 8.
(2) In a non-domain environment
Open PowerShell (Run as Administrator) on the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and type following PowerShell cmdlets: (Figure 9)
Start-WssConfigurationService -CompanyName "xxx" -DNSName "xxx" -NetBiosName "xxx" -ComputerName "xxx” –NewAdminCredential $cred
Figure 9.
After you type the commands above and click Enter, you can create a new administrator credential. (Figure 10)
After creating the new administrator credential, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 11)
After a reboot, all the configurations will be completed and you can open the Windows Server Essentials Dashboard without any errors. (Figure 12)
Figure 12.
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.Part 2: Install and configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role remotely
In an existing domain environment
In an existing domain environment, please use following command to provide credential and then add Server Essentials Role: (Figure 13)
Add-WindowsFeature -Name ServerEssentialsRole
-ComputerName xxx -Credential DomainName\DomainAccount
Figure 13.
After you enter the credential, it will start install Windows Server Essentials role on your computer. (Figure 14)
Figure 14.
After the installation completes, it will return the result as below:
Figure 15.
Next, please use the
Enter-PSSession
cmdlet and provide the correct credential to start an interactive session with a remote computer. You can use the commands below:
Enter-PSSession –ComputerName
xxx –Credential DomainName\DomainAccount (Figure 16)
Figure 16.
Then, please configure Server Essentials Role via
Add-WssConfigurationService cmdlet and it also needs to provide correct credential. (Figure 17)
Figure 17.
After your credential is accepted, it will update and prepare your server. (Figure 18)
Figure 18.
After that, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 19)
Figure 19.
2. In a non-domain environment
In my test environment, I set up two computers running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and use Server1 as a target computer. The IP addresses for the two computers are as
below:
Sevrer1: 192.168.1.54
Server2: 192.168.1.53
Run
Enable-PSRemoting –Force on Server1. (Figure 20)
Figure 20.
Since there is no existing domain, it is necessary to add the target computer (Server1) to a TrustedHosts list (maintained by WinRM) on Server 2. We can use following command
to
add the TrustedHosts entry:
Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts IP-Address
(Figure 21)
Figure 21.
Next, we can use
Enter-PSSession
cmdlet and provide the correct credential to start an interactive session with the remote computer. (Figure 22)
Figure 22.
After that, you can install Windows Server Essentials Experience Role remotely via Add-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole cmdlet. (Figure 23)
Figure 23.
From figure 24, we can see that the installation is completed.
Figure 24.
Then you can use
Start-WssConfigurationService cmdlet to configure Essentials Role and follow the steps in the first part (configure Windows Server Essentials Experience in a non-domain environment) as the steps would be the same.
The figure below shows the status of Windows Server Essentials.
Figure
25.
Finally, we have successfully configured Windows Server Essentials on Server1. (Figure 26)
Figure 26.

How do I get callback or windows messaging Events working on a 6534 card do pattern output?
Hi,
I am working on a fast track project and I am trying unsuccesfully to get my buffered output to work. I have 827 different size buffers of data that I need to output to a digital output. I need to wait until each buffer is output, then call some other functions before outputing the next buffer.
Although I only want to set one bit on and off I have i16 buffers that contains my data. I have based my program on the 6523SingleBufferedOutput NI-DAQ example. However I do not want to poll the number of buffer elements remaining, I want to use the NI-DAQ event message to tell my code when the DIG_Block_Out function is complete. This appears to be message type 2. I am basing the ev
ent code from another example in the Function Reference Manual. I have tried both a callback and an window message, but neither function is ever called. I am not sure if the problem is to do with the event configuration or the DO not completing. It does look like only part of my data is being output, however I tried with message type to send a message after n scans and it did not call my functions either.
I can send code to anyone who is willing to help. Help would be really be appreciated as I am behind now on my project,
Thanks,
DavidHere is the code

Windows Messaging+ App behind a proxy
What is the URL for the web service for the Windows Messaging+ app? Im behind a proxy and it always fails to connect. There is no option under settings for defining a proxy.

Yes, Greg said
Other applications such as Spotify, Dropbox,
etc. work only when I configure them to use a specific proxy server. The
Message+ desktop application doesn't seem to allow the user to specify a
proxy server anywhere in the settings.
All he's asking is if the desktop app has an option to set for a proxy server or a way to workaround it....
