Preparing to upgrade OS
I know next to nothing about what I am doing but am preparing to upgrade to panther from OS 9.0.4. Nervous about proceeding w/out backing up my HD. I just purchased an 80 GB external drive and installed 512 RAM chip, thanks to all the wonderful posts.
Is it prudent to clone my HD in case the unthinkable happens? If so, how does one "clone"? Should I wipe my computer's drive and reinstall OS 9.0.4 before upgrading to panther? I understand I need to install OS 9.1 and so on as well as firmware updates first but am scared to loose everything. Any other helpful advice for a newbie?
You can always create a Disk Image of your (OS 9.x) hard drive with Disk Copy, so that you can clone it later, if and where needed. This is the easiest way to ensure that you'll save everything - exactly as it currently is - on the drive. Applying the OS 9.1 Update to 9.0.4 is a painless experience, and not as much upheaval as an upgrade from OS 8.6 to 9.1 would be. Your personal documents are left untouched, as the enhancements provided by the 9.1 Update are applied to specific components of the System Folder. You'll also get updated versions of Drive Setup and Disk First Aid. Additionally, the OS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 Updates (that can be run after you've updated to OS 9.1) are not quantum leaps either. As a precaution, you can always back up your personal files separately and in addition to the Disk Image created of the hard drive.
If your iMac has a 30 GB internal hard drive, have you decided whether you'll need or want to keep OS 9.1 (updated to 9.2.1 or 9.2.2) for running your pre-OS X programs? If so, you may wish to use Disk Utility (on the OS X installer CD) to partition the hard drive into two volumes, reserving the first partition for your Panther installation, and having OS 9.x on the second partition. If you do this, be sure to select the "install OS 9 Drivers" option, when re-formatting the drive. Because partitioning the drive requires reformatting it as well, all data on the drive is lost. The Disk Image created of your existing hard drive makes it very easy to recreate it. After you decide what you'd like to do, you can post back for further suggestions.

Any thoughts from the community; Is it a good idea or not to upgrade my MacBook Pro? Any help is appreciated. On my Macbook Pro to prepare for upgrade to Yosemite, I have backed up to time machine the Macintosh Hard Drive which has my applications with the exception of Office for Mac 2011. Office for Mac is on a separate drive; how do I back up that separate drive?
If it's on a separate drive, then it would have nothing to do with installing a new OS on another drive.

Preparing for upgrade and Unicode conversion while on 4.6c
We're currently on 4.6c and preparing to upgrade to ERP 2005 and do a Unicode conversion. I'm trying to compile a list of coding techniques that can used in 4.6c that will minimize changes needed for Unicode. Does anyone have such a list?
Some things I've discovered reading about Unicode include:
1) Use GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD rather than WS_UPLOAD and WS_DOWNLOAD.
2) Structures or table headers that contain non-character data need to be identical when moving, comparing, selecting into, updating from, etc. This includes not moving structures/tables with non-character data to a character field or vice-versa.
3) Offsets can't cross non-character data.
4) Assign statement with offset must specify a length.
5) Open dataset must specify "FOR INPUT", "FOR OUTPUT", "FOR APPENDING", or "FOR UPDATE". It no longer defaults to FOR INPUT when omitted.
6) Many implicit conversions from char to numeric are no longer allowed. Use explicit conversion instead; such as the move statement.
I know there are others. Any help would be appreciated.

4.0B to ECC 6.0; SPDD in PREPARE or UPGRADE phase?
Hi Gurus,
I am working on an upgrade from R/3 4.0 to ECC 6.0. I worked on pgrades before but am alien 4.0B. BTW, from a Developer perspective:
1) SPDD adjustments are done in which phase? PREPARE or UPGRADE?
2) Are here special cases where the adjustments need to be done before running the UPGRADE phase?
Helpful Answers will be rewardedHi Karthik
>
> 1) SPDD adjustments are done in which phase? PREPARE or UPGRADE?

SPDD is done in Upgrade ->Phase ACT_700
> 2) Are here special cases where the adjustments need to be done before running the UPGRADE phase?
>
At ACT_700 phase stop the upgrade and take a backup of the DB and the PUT<DIR> before starting the SPDD activity.
Make sure there are no pending tp request. Either release them or delete them.
All phase need to be completed successfully in PREPARE, before starting UPGRADE

moved iphoto to trash and downloaded and installed new one but still tells me to prepare and upgrade it when I have done it 2 or 3 times now... how do i get it to open so I can upload my photos?
It helps if you provide details - not just a problem
What exactly dod you have and have you done?
What version of iPhoto did you have and what version do you now have? Of the OS? If you are upgrading from iphoto '08 or earlier did you download and RUN the iphoto library upgrader?

Edward TSoHi,
You have to uncar the add-on in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in directory.
Keep your add-on sar/car file in /usr/sap/trans folder and use following command
cd /usr/sap/trans
SAPCAR -xvf xxxxxxxx.sar
it will automatically unzip the files in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in directory.

Error when executing Prepare in upgrade from R/3 4.7EE to ECC5.0
HI,
I am trying to upgrade R/3 4.7EE to ECC5.0 DB :Oracle:OS:Windows.I am executing the Prepare.bat fron upgrade Master and I choose the EXIT option at the last. After that from cmd I ran java -cp <UPG DIR>\ua\ua.jar UaServer ,but after that it is not asking any password for administator.I am trying to login to the Upgrade console from http://localhost:port but it is asking administrator password. My question is in my case why it is not asking any password though
I am getting Uaserver started message.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Sagar Askani.Hi,
After entering EXIT, from command prompt you would need to go to "ua" foler and the execute the following command.
java -cp ua.jar.UaServer
then it will ask for administrator password.
And then the Ua server will be started.
Leave this window as it is.
Open another window in command prompt.
then execute the command
java -cp uagui.jar.UaGui.
This will open the upgrade assistant. Enter the Host name and then the User name as Administrator and the password.
This should help you in resolving the issue.

SantoshHi ,
1.Once you run /<DVD mount directory>/PREPARE , choose method EXIT (default value)
2.Start the UA server ( use nohup to run UA server in background to avoid the uncessary termination , for example, network errors etc., )
3. a) Starting with browser ,
http://<host name>:4239 ( use full qualified hostname)
b) copy the uagui.jar file from directory
<upgrade directory>/ua on this host to any local directory.(local system - windows) and run
java -cp <UaGuiDir>\uagui.jar UaGui
4.If system is Unix , try
java -cp <upgrade directory>/ua/uagui.jar UaGui -
Preparing to Upgrade to OS X Yosemite
Hi there,
I am just writing today to ask what precautions and steps I may need to be aware of when upgrading to OS X Yosemite.
My current MacBook is a 13" MacBook Pro, Mid-2009, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with the original 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. I have recently looked in to Crucial and am interested in upgrading to the 8 GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-8500 Unbuffered as my Mac already struggles to perform basic tasks on Mavericks. I was wondering what other steps I should take to prepare my MacBook for Yosemite? I am a student with a fairly limited budget and currently am not in the position to purchase a new MacBook, so slight upgrades are my best option at this point.
Would it be a good idea to look in to solid state hard drives? Is there a dramatic speed increase?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help that anyone may offer. It's funny you asked, because I logged into this forum for the first time ever to get advice on this exact issue. I have done a lot of research and think that we have both made the right decision to get Crucial memory (your correct model is here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/macbook-pro-%2813-inch%2C-mid-2009%29/CT3309352).
As for the SSD, this can definitely improve the speed of loading apps, working with large files, etc. However, to get a reasonable size drive, prepare to pay a lot of money. For me, I was very impressed by the performance of a "Hybrid" HDD/SDD drive in this video: http://youtu.be/6iBhf8rpobo. This particular style of hard drive has a large HDD (usually 5400rpm) to maximize space and a small SSD (usually around 8GB) to store your most frequently accessed files. I decided on this one: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-Hybrid-2-5-Inch-ST1000LM014/dp/B00B99JUBQ. You'll notice that this drive has a speed of 6Gb/s. I believe that your Macbook Pro can only take advantage of 1.5Gb/s. In my opinion, this is even more reason for you to get the SSHD rather than the SSD. Frankly speaking, your computer is the weakest link here and I'm not sure that an SSD will be noticeably faster than the SSHD.
And finally, the price! The Seagate SSHD gets you 1TB of space for only $80, while the 500GB SSDs will set you back at least $200 (and you can forget about getting 1TB).
My Seagate SSHD and Crucial memory will arrive on Tuesday. If I remember, I will come back here to post an update about how Yosemite runs. I've been holding onto Snow Leopard, but with the Shell Shock bug and Apple dropping support for 10.6, it's time to move on.
Don't forget to get the proper tools! Phillips #00 and T6 Torx (I got this set: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EVV8LK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF 8&psc=1).
And of course make sure to follow the instructions exactly. Use whatever guide you want, but here is one that looks reputable:

I'm about embark on the task of upgrading from iPhoto 08 to 09, is there anything I should do before doing it?
Hello Terence,
I hope you are doing fine.
I saw that you reply to one person who was asking about upgrading Iphoto 08 to Iphoto 09.
I have a problem that i hope you can help me. My Imac is from 2007 therefore i have iphoto 06, i did the installation of the whole ilife 09 suite, and what was my surprise that, when i reboot, there was no upgrade at all on any application... i still had the old version of iphoto, garage band, iweb. The only program added succesfully was Imovie 09; do you know what may be the problem, ?
I appreciate your attention.

SCM2007 upgrade error in SHDINST_CPY phase of PREPARE in MSCS
Dear all,
we're trying an experimental upgrade from SCM5.0 to SCM2007 on an MSCS cluster (sql server rdbms on a separate cluster).
Currently the SCM5.0 is installed on a multi-SID cluster, with ASCS only in HA, 2 standalone enqueue replicators on the 2 nodes, CI and DIA on the 2 nodes, exacttly as of the manual, and it worked great so far.
Now we're trying to upgrade this clustered SCM instance to SCM2007, and
the upgrade is stuck in SHDINST_CPY phase of PREPARE, with the error:
SEVERE ERROR: copy of O:\usr\sap\put\bin\NTINSTASCS.PFL failed
In fact, the file above (ASCS profile template) doesn't exist in the put folder.
Tried the PREPARE twice, by using a new empty put folder and fresh upgrade media, same result.
So far very little or no support from SAP.
Any hints will be sincerely appreciated.
Franco.Hmm, thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't apply to our case.
Here you see out UpgDialog file with all the events registered. Apart of the error: ERROR: RFC of "subst_get_uvers" failed. (DDIC was locked before), to me it seems pretty clean.

Execution of PREPARE module Import begins at 20080513101735
>> 10:17:35 PREPARE: START OF PHASE REQIMPORT
The PREPARE module Import will be started now.
During this module programs, structures, and table entries
required by PREPARE are imported (the socalled "tool import").
Note: This can cause a loss of performance in R/3
In rare cases, a concurrent transport via the transport directory
may disturb the tool import. Please avoid any concurrent import
during this PREPARE module.

Preparing for 3.3(4) to 4.2 Upgrade - Any issues?
We are preparing to upgrade ACS from 3.3(4) to 4.2 and are wondering if there are any gotchas we should look out for? We've upgraded in the lab and things look ok, but we are limitted to what we can test aganst in the lab. We have 300+ different device types/code rev combinations (mostly Cisco TACACS+, a few Radius) and are wondering if there are any known issues where a certain rev of code (IOS, CatOS) works with 3.3(4) but not 4.2.
thanks in advance
BobHaven't heard of any yet on 4.2
Regards,
Prem

I purchased CS2 a few years ago, and my computer recently crashed. I'm trying to reinstall it on a new computer, but the CD is apparently scratched. Is there a place where CS2 is available for download? I have a valid serial number.
