Prepping DPS app for newsstand

Hi there
I was in the final steps of submitted our magazine app and set up the newsstand options in iTunes Connect. When I attempted to upload the app with Application Loader I got a warning that the info.plist file was missing certain information for newsstand. This file is inside the app package and had already been generated when making the app.
I tried to edit it manually but it didn't work.
Question: Is there something I should be doing when exporting the app from DPS to somehow flag or ready it for newsstand so that these lines of code are already present?
Failing that, does anyone know of a safe and relaible way to update the info.plist file? I have TextWrangler but may have been placing the code in the wrong places.
thanks for the help!
Steve

Choose the Pro companion guide PDF from the Help menu in DPS App Builder. There are quite a few steps.
In iTunes Provisioning Portal, select the App ID and click Configure. Select Newsstand. Rebuild your mobileprovision files, which contain the new App ID settings you just configured. Also create push certificates, which are required for Newsstand.
Chime in if you get stuck.

Might be a silly question, but I can't seem to browse the top paid for apps on newsstand anymore like all the other categories!!
Does anyone know if this is still possible as I find this a good indication of what people are buying?

  • Apple rejected a DPS app for being "too book-like"

Had anyone ever had a DPS app rejected for being "too book-like." We just had our first DPS iPad app rejected from iTunes for being too "book-like." The app we designed is a one off show catalog, with interactive images and videos. Has anyone had this same experience with Apple? If so what was the resolution?

    REJECTED AGAIN!
My app is a digital scrapbook.  Been working on this for over a year.
Here is part of what I sent in my appeal:  (sorry it is long--but I'm just flabbergasted they rejected me twice!)
“One FlyGirl's WWII Scrapbook” was created to be an exciting, illustrated, multimedia app.  With interactive elements on almost every page, it is filled with pictures, videos, music, and graphics.   With great respect, I submit the following clarification.
Even though the title includes the word ‘book,’ it is not a book; rather, it is an interactive journey into the life of a female pilot, flying American military aircraft in World War II.  The centerpiece of the app is the visual experience, propelled by the interactivity and the sounds.    It is the interactivity that is part of the character and fun of the scrapbook.    I do not believe a more traditional ibook would create the same stimulating, engaging learning experience as this app does.
Many of the screens created for this app cannot be duplicated in an ibook.    In particular, please consider the following:
Interactive overlays that include dynamic photos with pinch and zoom, panoramas and scrollable frames, html5 animation, and over 60 screens with Multi-State Objects.
WASP Across America: US MAP with over 100 buttons.    Clicking the buttons on the map brings up faces and video clips of individual WASP (the overlooked Women Airforce Service Pilots, WWII).
Congressional Gold Medal:  The gold medal spins as it is ‘swiped’ showing both sides.  (The spinning Gold Medal looks fabulous on the ipad)
Music or sounds play as soon as the next screen loads or a button is pressed, causing the sound to play.
    NOW WHAT do I do????
Any suggestions?  There are over 100 screens (OK, PAGES)-- each will have to be completely re-done for ibooks2.   Any suggestions on how, using DPS, I can create more of an APP to apple's satisfaction???
    Thakns much!

  • DPS App for educational materials

Do you know anyone that have started to produce Apps with DPS with educational materials for child or elementary school? I’m looking for some examples of what peoples do and if such materials is suited for DPS or is it better to do custom app. Thanks!

  • How do I update a DPS app for the iOS Market?

    Hello,
I have a professional license in Adobe Digital publishing Suite and last year I published an app in the iOS market. Now I would like to update the app with some new content and I don't know if I have to erase the previous app or what are the steps to follow.
    Thank you,
    Nuria

Hello Bob, thank you for your answer.
I think you did not understand my problem. I don't want to create a new folio and publish it, I want to add some new content to the app that is already in the iOS market. I have created some new articles that I want to add to the already existing folio and so a new update with some new content will appear on the iOS Market.
    Thank you,
    Nuria

  • Making DPS Apps for Android

we have aPro account and are now considering publishing our multi-folio subscription app to the Android marketplace. My question is really about which Android devices should we concentrate on?
Right now my idea would be to focus on the KindleFire 7" (1280x800) and the Google Nexus 7". I feel as though this is a good first step to design and produce.
Should we also consider the larger devices? or is the sweet spot really the 7" tablets?
Would like to hear from others.
PLUS, is it true that Google Play limits your apps to 50 meg?
    Tom

It all really depends on your goals but for me, building a 1205x800 rendition got my app on the largest number of Android devices. The trade off is that on full frame devices, you get minor black space down at the bottom of the screen, but it means you only have to build once to get the same rendition of the Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7 along with many of the 10" devices. And even with the 1920x1200 screens (like on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 your product will be readable, just letter boxed.
The 1205x800 gets me onto all the devices that I have users on (granted, not many people are reading via Android devices) without building four or five different renditions.
And yes, apps are limited to 50MB, BUT that does not count in-app purchases. Your issues are not limited to 50MB.

  • Setting up a DPS App for Social Networking

In DPS help it says: ‘If you have not already done so, create a web page for your publication. Create metadata to determine which image is used as the thumbnail image.’
Can someone at Adobe expand on this?
By webpage, does this mean facebook page?

Here's how the Facebook button currently works. The customer taps Facebook in the viewer and adds a comment, a message appears on the Facebook wall. This comment includes a link to whichever web page the publisher specifies. (In the future, this link will jump to a web version of the article, but that's not how it works now.) The web page you specify should provide information about your publication, such as www.wired.com for Wired magazine.
The comment on the Facebook wall also includes a thumbnail image that's pulled from the publication web site -- usually the first image it finds. If you want a specific image to appear, you can control it. There is a link at the bottom of the help article that describes how to control the thumbnail image.

  • How do I create an iPad dps app that needs a password to enter?

I need to create an iPad dps app for a corporate client and they have asked the question if after download, we can have it password protected to enter?
If so how do I go about this? so the app has a log in page once loaded?

You'd need to create a custom HTML store/library and build that into the application, and have that page request the password. This is a DPS Enterprise feature, it isn't available in pro or single edition.

  • Do I need to upgrade my CC Account to create a folio app for non-iPad devices?

    Hello,
I have never created a DPS app, but have been researching this for the last 4 weeks.  From what I understand, I can create a DPS app for iPad using a single edition or a multifolio app.  If I want to create a DPS app for any other device, I would need to create a multifolio app.  I have only a Creative Cloud account, but I believe that I will need a Professional or Enterprise account to create multifolio apps.  Is there another way that I could create apps for Android, iPhone, etc devices without having to upgrated my account?
    Thank you.

Your research and understanding is correct. If you want to use DPS to target anything other than an iPad you need Professional or Enterprise edition.

  • DPS app on Microsoft Surface?

How do I get my DPS iPad app towork on Microsoft Surface? Make a custom folio right?

Find yourself a Windows 8 developer - they're out there.
I re-published my DPS app for Windows 8 - desktop and tablet, including Surface - but Adobe DPS is not yet part of the process.
A friend published a little diagramming app for Win8 called Sekvenz (free 30-day trial http://sekvenz.com/I think) He looked at my app and said that since I already had all of the content, that he would help me re-craft it for Win8. There were a few give and takes, of course, but the app is now live (and free) in the Win8 store under the title "Todas las letras." It's a Spanish language children's book with interactivity, audio, and a letter-writing canvas.
It was my need for the trifecta, iPad, Android, Windows. I paid this guy in beer, your Win8 developer might have other requirements, though.
FWIW My experience of the Surface tablet is very good. I think that my publication looks very slick and runs smoothly. But I don't own a Surface, I agree that it has drawbacks, odd screen size, resolution, um, price.

  • Updating my .ipa in DPS App Builder for testing is not working

    Hi there,
I've build my .ipa file in DPS App Builder for testing on my iPad before I publish it to the app store. No problem. I tested it and saw some modifications to make. I made the changes on my folio, updated it in the folio builder of indesign (on the cloud). Then I get back to DPS App Builder and rebuild an .ipa file from the "Manage" and "Modify" windows, it download and test my certifates, seems to work ok. Then I've created the new .ipa file (after erasing the old one on my desktop and iTunes) but when I synch it back on my iPad it's not updated. It's still the first version of my folio without the changes.
I tried to create a new app from the beginning but the single edition serial number does not work anymore. So my only solution is to update my folio, right? But what is the right way to do it? Am I missing something? I didn't find any answer in the step by step guide about that.
Or is it possible to delete completly the first version in DPS App Builder to recreate it without losing my single edition serial number as I didn't submit it to Apple yet?
Do I have something to do in the Folio Producer?
    Thanks for your help.
    Julien.

Single Edition Serial is one time use thus modification is not possible from your end directly in case you wish to use the same serial number. For such cases you need to contact DPS Support, who can get an approval on a serial number reset after reviewing the need.
In this case, I'll take this offline with you in reference to forum post # http://forums.adobe.com/message/5597607.

  • What is a quick alternative to launching an enterprise DPS app if Apple Store rejects the App? We are under a major deadline and can't wait for Apple. We want to host the app elsewhere. How do we host our DPS app on our client's website?

What is a quick alternative to launching an enterprise DPS app if Apple Store rejects the App? We are under a major deadline and can't wait for Apple to approve. We want to host the app elsewhere. How do we host our DPS app on our client's website? Thanks.

Unless I misunderstand the question, you can't do what you're asking to do. Apple doesn't allow you to bypass their store and host public apps on a website. The exception is an enterprise app, which requires an Enterprise account with both Apple and Adobe. This type of enterprise app can be distributed only within the company. If that's what you want to do, you can learn more here:
Digital Publishing Suite Help | Creating viewer apps for private distribution
Distributing enterprise iOS viewer applications with Digital Publishing Suite | Adobe Developer Connection
Another option is to add the development app to several devices and use those for your demo.

  • DPS android app for small screens, works, but poorly...

There is a way to get the DPS android app compatable with 1400 devices, including mobile phones.
In theory if you here reading this its because you have an android app made by the DPS app builder live in the play store and...
A: found out that the android app is only available on large/xlarge screens
B: are getting yelled at by your employer who bought the Adobe DPS subscription and claims this should work on his phone "because I looked at the Adobe site and it says android, my phone is an android, read their site and make it work"
C: found this because you were smart enough to read through the forums before suggesting this as a publishing solution to your employer and want to know if it really works on android phones, in whcih case, you may want to make it easy on yourself and just say "no, it does not" and then waid for Adobe to officially support small/normal screens perhaps head over to this post and bring some attention to it so we can collectivly improve this already awesome tool: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1097433
however, before you attempt this please keep in mind the following:
1- it does not work well, if at all, on certain devices. specifically the small phone devices with the slower processors. So what typically happens is that you need to delete the data for the app and wait nearly 10 min for the "checking for updates" to process and grab new edditions. Depending on your serivce provider, this can be a nightmare. So, do NOT even attempt this if you have a cap on your data plan, think about how long it would take to download a 100mb folio file on a 3g connection, not to mention the processor which the tablets have and phones do not have.
    Here is some more data:
--Android 1 from Sprint: really super slow, thats all I gotta say
--Android 2 from Verizon, again, slow, but works
--Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1, Verizon 4g connection, works great, (10% of the time) lol. about 90% of the time the Galaxy Nexus needs to be restarted after installing, and will get stuck on the "updating library" screen. the only way to fix this for any of the above phones seems to be to clear all data, uninstall, re install, do not launch, restart phone, and then launch app.
I am going to test the following soon:
         Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 (1.6GHz Quad-core)
         (1.5GHz Quad-core)
              LG Optimus G E973
              Xiaomi MI-2
              LG Optimus 4X HD P880
              HTC One X
(the idea being that perhaps we can go through the list from google in the play store and limit the devices its on, but at least with this solutuon as described below we can get rid of the "not availabe on your device" notice.)
So before you read on, consider that for your end users. If you find a way to fix this, let me know, I have considered turning off hardware acceleration but have not tested this yet.
2- if you choose to attempt this make sure you have a good understanding of command line AND you have a new version of the app ready if you want to roll back.
consider this concept: (you should have these ready)
app a- made by Adobe DPS app builder, works on only large and x-large android screens, lets say its version 100000 and 2.5.5.000. This is already in your google.play store account as a live app,
app b- the app you are about to build in this example below, it will in theory work on small, medium, large, and x-large android screens, lets say its version is 110000 and 2.9.9.000 (it will be MADE FROM APP A, you will open it, edit it, and wrap it back up.)
app c- made by Adobe DPS app builder, works on only large and x-large android screens, lets say its version 200000 and 3.5.5.000 (which would be good to have in case your version b above does not work the way you want)
notice the VERSION codes. These are important because you can only go UP, you can not "roll back" to a previous version.
Again, I do not suggest this, but if you are daring and have some development background, feel free to give it a shot.
(I am not going to be able to support this info, but I can verify 100% that I got mine working, very poorly and slow, but it installs, pulls folios, and loads)
PC WINDOWS ONLY, I have not tried this on a MAC.
    get this:
      http://www.7-zip.org/
    install it
    get this:
      http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
    read all about it.
    go here:
      http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/list
    get:
              apktool1.4.3.tar.bz2
    and
              apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2
put them all in 1 folder, extract both items, all the way
    the grab the
              android-viewer.apk
that Adobe DPS made, or whatever yours is named...
    and the
              release.keystore
you made and put them in the same "stuff" folder. there should be 20 items total in here now.
    get this:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-6u30-download-1377139.html
              jdk-6u30-windows-x64.exe
do NOT use any other version, do NOT use version 7, use version 6.
install it all. then find it. should be here- (C://program files/Java/)
I recomend grabbing it all and putting it in your ROOT like this:
    C://Java/jdk1.6.0_30/bin
then, put everything from the "stuff" folder into C://Java/jdk1.6.0_30/bin
    yep, all of it.
now we are ready to get funky...
    run cmd line.
    open start menu, type
    cmd
into the search bar, hit enter
-------- run command line, get to proper directory
    cd ..
    cd ..
    cd Java/jdk1.6.0_30/bin
    (or wherever your 'stuff' is)
    --------open up
    apktool d android-viewer.apk android-viewer
(this will make a folder called 'android-viewer' and you will be able to go into that folder and find the XML files in there)
    --------edit XML
    in file: /android-viewer/AndroidManifest.xml
open up in dreamweaver and change this stuff:
    android:versionCode="_ENTER_NEW_NUMBER_" android:versionName="_ENTER_NEW_NUMBER_"
    <supports-screens android:smallScreens="true" android:normalScreens="true" android:largeScreens="true" android:xlargeScreens="true" />
    in file: /android-viewer/assets/META-INF/AIR/application.xml
open up in dreamweaver and change this stuff:
              <versionNumber>_MATCH_ABOVE_</versionNumber>
              <versionLabel>_MATCH_ABOVE_</versionLabel>
    <supports-screens android:smallScreens='true' android:normalScreens='true' android:largeScreens='true' android:xlargeScreens='true'/>
    --------package it back up
    apktool b android-viewer android-viewer-new.apk
(this will repackage the folder into a new APK, note the name -new.apk added to the end)
    --------Sign
    jarsigner -keystore release.keystore -signedjar android-viewer-signed.apk android-viewer-new.apk YOUR_ALIAS
(now you need to sign the -new apk and recreate it as signed)
    --------Verify
    jarsigner -verify -verbose -certs android-viewer-signed.apk
(if the last line does not say 'successfully verified' and there is an error, make sure you are using version 6 of JDK and not 7)
    --------Update APK in play store
    Visit this page
    http://developer.android.com/distribute/googleplay/about/distribution.html#instant
read the line that says "Instant publishing, instant updates"
while you do, understand you are being lied to, it takes anywhere from 30 min to 4 hours for your update to be "instant".
    take the new "android-viewer-signed.apk"
rename it, upload it, activate it, de activate the old one.
important: beofe you click save, switch over to the "product details" tab and update your version notes.
head over to your app page in the play store.
sit there and click refresh every 10 min or take a nap and come back in a few hours.
when you finally see the version number has updated, go to the browser on your phone
find your app in the browser, refresh the page, make sure its got the new version number on it.
install it on your small screen device, cross your fingers, and hope you do not get a message that says "not signed properly"
if you do, feel free to start googling the stuff above to see where you went wrong.
If it does work, go to your boss and have him download it and run it and say "see, there ya go, its on your phone now" and when he says it does not work hand him a minni screw driver and a 1.6GHz Quad-core from the Galaxy Note II and tell him to simply upgrade the procssor in his phone because its too slow. lol.
    -good luck and enjoi

    Hi,
This is very interesting.  I'm not an expert but i could do almost all the steps, but i can not do the sign step.  i dont know where my release.keystore is.  i created a .key.p12 file, is it?
I'm trying to do this for a Galaxy SIII
