Prepping on-prem Exchange 2010 for cutover to office365

Hi folks,
I am trying to migrate five user mailboxes from my on premise Exchange 2010 server to office 365.  I am trying to follow the steps listed in this TN article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj874016(v=exchg.150).aspx
I cannot get past an  error I get at Bullet point three in step one.
When running the command listed below from an RDP session on the Exchange server:
"Test-MigrationServerAvailability -ExchangeOutlookAnywhere -Autodiscover -EmailAddress <email
address for on-premises administrator> -Credentials $credentials"
I get the following error:
Test-MigrationServerAvailability : The term 'Test-MigrationServerAvailability' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path
is correct and try again.

+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : ObjectNotFound: (Test-MigrationServerAvailability:String) [], CommandNotFoundException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException
Office 365 migration forum sent me over here to see why Outlook Anywhere isn't working... I'm not sure why they jumped that far ahead.
Two questions:
1.  How can if fix the error listed above?
2. What is the EASIEST way to migrate old emails for five users from On-Prem Exch2010 to Office 365?
Thanks in advance,
Chad

1. That is an Exchange Online cmdlet and doesn't apply to an on-premises server of any version.  You run it in Exchange Online PowerShell.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219169(v=exchg.150).aspx
2. The easiest way is a third-party tool like MigrationWiz.  The most cost-effective is to configure hybrid and use New-MoveRequest in Exchange Online PowerShell.  Personally I do not like the method you have to use in EAC to move mailboxes, so
I recommend the shell to my customers.

  • Prepare Exchange 2010 for a Major Network Outage

We are planning to replace our Core networking switch in our production environment. I am looking for a best practice option for Exchange to be placed into during this outage. This will be an approximate four hour outage.
Our current environment for Exchange is this:
Exchange 2010 SP3 rollup 8v2 two CAS servers and Three MBX/HT servers.
I read a few articles and they recommended different things, one was to just power down all of the exchange servers before the outage and then bring them back up after the outage. To me this just seems like a bad idea. The other was to put the MBX servers
into maintenance mode prior to shutting them down. This seemed more practical.
Can anyone provide feedback, insight, and guidance in this case? Has anyone gone through this type of outage and if so how did you handle your exchange environment and what was your success or failures with the scenario you used?
    Thank you

When the server is in maintenance mode it moves all the active databases to other DAG members. It pauses the node in the cluster, and sets the DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy mailbox server setting to Blocked. The Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy cmdlet is run
for each database hosted by the DAG member, and the cluster core resources will be moved to another server in the DAG if needed. This prevents data bases from auto activating in the case of a server failure. Just powering down an exchange MBX server would
cause the active data bases to failover to the alternate server, but once Quorum is lost due to more than half of the servers being shut down, I am not sure how the data bases would react after being brought  back on line. Based on
this it seems to me that putting the servers in maintenance mode prior to powering them down would be the safest bet.
TL;DR What I am really looking for is advice or experience from an Admin who has already gone through a similar exercise.
    Thanks for your input.

  • OWA still lands at Exchange 2010 for users migrated from Exchange 2010 to 2013

I never had any issues with OWA redirection for a few users that I migrated from Exchange 2010-2013 initially. For users that I am migrating in the past few days, the OWA 2013 is landing on Exchange 2010 despite the mailbox being successfully migrated to
    Exchange 2013.
    Troubleshooting:
    1. I have restarted the IIS Services
    2. I have restarted MSExchangeOWAAppPool.
    3. I have also checked the homeMDB attribute of the 2013 migrated user with the Exchange 2013 database.
I would really appreciate if anyone could share their experiences on similar issues.

I have checked it, the migration status is completed. In regard to the namespaces, both CAS 2010 and 2013 are set to mail.domain.com; CAS 2013 is the internet facing. I have also checked the internal access for OWA, it's the same scenario. Migrating them
back to 2010 and 2013 won't resolve the issue in my case, because the issue persists for every new user that I am migrating.
I recently found the following when I login with a user who is not effected and then logout:
    1. Login in back with the affected user without closing the browser or clearing the cache, it lands at CAS 2013 OWA.
    2. However, I get the below listed error message when I logout.
    Your request couldn't be completed.

This may have occurred for security reasons or because your session timed out.

  • Shared Calendars Exchange 2010 for iPhone & iPad

I have spent much time reading posts and articles on setting up Exchange 2010 SP2 so that Users can edit and view shared calendars with their iPad's & iPhones.
However I have hit a stumbling block, too many way's and too much information on configuration.  So I have laid out below the commands I intend to use so we publish *.ics which believe is the best way to share calendars with ios systems though I am having
problems with details in the commands.
If anyone has already done this or can provide some examples as I don't use the com shell that often for exchange.
    Step 1:
PRE-REQUISITE: OWA External URL must be set
    set-owavirtualdirectory –Identity <CAS> -ExternalURL <externalURLforCAS>
    - What is "externalURLforCAS"????
    Step 2:
PRE-REQUISITE: Mailbox webproxy must be set
set-exchangeserver –identity “servername” –InternetWebProxy ”webproxy URL”
    - What is ”webproxy URL” ????
    Step 3:
Admin must enable Internet access to exchange published calendars
    set-owavirtualdirectory –Identity <CAS> -CalendarPublishingEnabled$true
    Step 4:
Admin must enable sharing policy for Internet Publishing
    set-sharingpolicy –Identity <PolicyName> -Domains “Anonymous:<accesslevel>”

    Hi,
ActiveSync syncs only the default calendar. We are not able to sync shared calendar in Iphone/Ipad. Your understanding would be appreciated.
Just for your reference, you may take a try with some third party tool:

  • Connect Lync 2013 online (office 365) to on prem exchange 2010

Not sure which forum this belongs in, exchange 2010, office 365 or here so I'll start here.
I want to connect my lync 2013 clients to my on prem 2010 exchange server. I'm not exactly sure where to start because there is so much information out there I'm kind of confused as to where to start.

  • Dirsync After Exchange 2010 CUTOVER

    Hi to All,
We have completed our on premises Exchange 2010 using CUTOVER migration. Now, we would find an official article or suitable  process to install active directory synchronization (dirsync) with office 365 tenant.
As for the http://community.office365.com/en-us/w/exchange/835.cutover-exchange-migration-and-single-sign-on.aspx  is not a propriety document since you are using Exchange server 2010.
The weird is since the "cutover" exchange 2010 is a suitable and more frequently migration process there is no process to install Dirsync after.
    Please advice.

Oh, you want to put the bananas back on the bunch?
    http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=office+365+dirsync+after+cutover+migration
I've never done it but it appears you can do it.  You'll just want to make sure your Office 365 recipients are properly configured so you don't get duplicates.

  • DNS for exchange 2010

I have set up exchange 2010 for a home lab. My internal domain name is domain.local and my external domain name is domain.info. OWA works internally using
https://servername/owa. My question is how do I get OWA working with my external FQDN from outside my internal network?  I have set up port forwarding for port 25 through my cable modem and routed mail through the Verizon
smart host.  I can receive mail on my domain.info email address but cannot send mail externally to a Gmail address.  I also set up an MX record in godaddy for my domain pointing to my public ip as well as an A record pointing to "mail.domain.info".
    Any input would be helpful.

    Hi,
To understand more about the issue, I’d like to ask the following questions:
Can you send mails to Gmail with Outlook?
Can you send mails to other external domain?
Is there any NDR when the mails cannot be sent?
Additionally, let’s try the steps in the following article to troubleshoot the mail flow issue:

  • Releasing HDD space after moving exchange 2010 (SBS 2011)to Office 365

Hello, I have completed a cut over install to Office 365(email only) form SBS 2011(Exchange 2010). Everything is working perfectly. The customer would like to recover the disk space used by the on premis exchange 2010.
Normally i would just disable Exchange on the SBS server and leave it at that but is there a way to remove all of the mailboxes and/or the database to recover the disk space used by exchange. I know unisntalling exchange is a bad idea on SBS 2011 so would
    like some other options.
    Thanks

    Hi
If you manually setup an outlook profile and enter in all the settings does it work?
In you local DNS you still have an autodiscover record for your local exchange server? Correct?

  • Unified Messaging Exchange 2010 with Jabber

Is anyone aware of a way to have Jabber integrate with Exchange 2010 for voice-mail?
I have CUCM trunked to the server, the calls are going to the server and you can leave a voice mail and phone MWI lights up.
I have the voice-mail icon on the jabber client and when I press it, it goes to the voice mail box.
The issue is that it says its not connected, and when people leave a voice-mail, Jabber does not indicate you have a message.
    We are running CUCM 9.1, CUPS 9.1, Jabber4W 9.7
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Jabber for windows 9.7; only supports VMREST voicemail access. The only option for this is unity connection 8.5 and above. Connection to Exchange 2010 form of unified messaging (voicemail service through exchange server alone) is not supported.

  • Exchange 2010 coexist with exchange 2013

    Hi All ,
Planning to have a coexistence scenario in my environment which is mentioned below
Exchange 2010 - ambiguous url in place - OA enabled
    For mapi/rpc traffic - mail.domain.in -  exchange 2010
    For https traffic - mail.domain.in - exchange 2010
mail.domain.in will get resolved in to cas array in exchange 2010 .
After coexistence On our side we are not going to move the mail.domain.in namespace to exchange 2013 , Instead of that we are going to use a new namespace in exchange 2013 for internal outlook anywhere and it will be outlookmail.domain.in and for the remaining
exchange 2013 services like pop, imap, owa, active sync url's,external OA will be having mail.domain.in as same as exchange 2010 namespace.
just consider outlookmail.domain.in is available on the san certificate installed in exchange 2013.
    Note :
On my ide I would assume Internal outlook 2010 mapi users will connect directly to exchange 2010 servers on the namespace mail.domain.in
Likewise i would assume Internal outlook anywhere 2013 users will connect directly to exchange 2013 servers on the namespace outlookmail.domain.in
Services like pop, imap, owa, active sync ,external OA connections for both exchange 2010 and exchange 2013 from the external world will be routed from firewall to exchange 2013 servers .Then https traffic for exchange 2010 mailbox users will be proxied to 2010
exchange server via exchange 2013 server.
question : I would like to know above mentioned scenario is possible or not ?
On my side I know in my environment i am having ambiguous url's in place and at the same time i don't want the exchange 2010 internal outlook users to connect via exchange 2013 rpc over http even though OA is enabled on exchange 2010.
So simply i can say i need my internal exchange 2010 mailbox users has to connect via tcp/ip.
All of you tell me your valuable suggestions.
    Regards
    S.Nithyanandham

    Hi,
Going Straight to the point... and answering your question...
The scenario above IS possible For a while... But going ahead in the migration process, You'd face problems once the Exch2013 doesn't know how to handle MAPI connections:
    As per Exchange Team...
In this scenario where both the MAPI/RPC and HTTP workloads are using the same FQDN you cannot successfully move the FQDN to CAS 2013 without
breaking your MAPI/RPC client connectivity entirely. I repeat, your MAPI/RPC clients will start failing to connect via MAPI/RPC once
their DNS cache expires after the shared FQDN is moved to CAS 2013.
As their recommendation, and I would tell you too by experience, the best option is to really use different internal and external URLs for the clients to connect to.
change your design to use a specific internal-only FQDN for MAPI/RPC clients. If you are in the middle of a 2010 deployment using an Ambiguous
URL I recommend you change your ClientAccessArray FQDN to a unique name and update the mailbox database RpcClientAccessServer values
on all Exchange 2010 mailbox databases accordingly. Fixing this item mid-migration to Exchange 2010 or even in your fully migrated environment will ensure any newly created or manually repaired Outlook profiles are protected, but it will not automatically
fix existing Outlook clients with the old value in the server field.
So the overall for this first point is to enable the OA for all internal users, so as to ease the migration process in the future, even if for the time being its not necessary.
Also another point you should take into consideration is the version of yours OLK versions, as the minimum supported are as per below:
Outlook 2007: 12.0.6665.5000 (SP3 + the November 2012 Public Update or any later PU)
Outlook 2010: 14.0.6126.5000 (SP1 + the November 2012 Public Update or any later PU)
Outlook 2013: 15.0.4420.1017 (RTM or later)
I don't know the size of you network, but it might be necessary for you to use an inventory tool in order to identify that.
As advised, its really worthy to have a look at the following article, thus to clarify your view about this issue.
Ambiguous URLs and their effect on Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migrations
    From <http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/07/17/3574451.aspx>

  • Moving Exchange 2003 mailboxes to Exchange 2010

    Hello
I have a new domain with Exchange 2010 server. I plan to join users to this domain but would like to know the best plan in moving the existing Exchange 2003 mailboxes over. Can I just import the PST files into their new Exhaneg 2010 mailboxes or is there
    a better easier solution?
    Thank you

    Hi,
You can export mailbox using ExMerge in Exchange 2003, but ExMerge only supports ANSI PST files which have a 2GB limit.
To migrate mailboxes across forests, Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) will be used.
Here is a blog which can help you to do cross forest migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 for your reference.
