Prerequisite of Learning OAF

Hi,
I have 10g Oracle Database, I am Form Developer ,need to learn OAF. Could you guys please let me know what are prerequisite for learning OAF. I heard that it needs Oracle Apps Installed in my laptop.

Need HELP to learn OAF development

Hi,
I am an experienced oracle financials developer. Most of my experience has been on using Developer 6i tools to develop front end and reports. Now I am planning to learn OAF framework to develop or to make customizations to the modules like iprocurement,iStore etc.
I would like to know what is the best way to start the learning process?
Is it possible to learn/practice the OAF framework(from oracle applications perspective) on my personal machine( it has oracle 10g personal edition installed), with out having access to oracle applications instance?
I would like to know if there are any good books/tutorials on OAF usage in Oracle applications?

I would like to know what level of oracle application access do we need to practice the OAF development ?
You need full access, including sysadmin responsibility.Do we need to have access to instance in terms of unix servers or just access to the applications is good enough?
It would be good to have Unix access , for deploying pages , classes etc.Do we need to create any new responisbilities to practice OAF concepts?
Not required, but a better option.What resposibilities or what level of access do we need to have on oracle application instance to practice OAF concepts?

How to start learning OAF

I'm very new to OA Framework, and I have read through most of the threads in this forum and skimmed through the development guide, but I still have a few questions.
1) Where can I download Jdeveloper 10g with OA externsions? It seems Jdeveloper can be downloaded from Metalink, but I don't know how to sign up for it. Can I download Jdeveloper 10g with OA externsions without having Metalink access?
2) Is a database required to learn and develop OAF components? One of the steps for setting up Jdeveloper obtain a dbc file. I don't know were to obtain a dbc file nor do I have a database to work with.

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I don't have a CSI number or a DBA to turn to. I'm a college student, and I'm not working for an IT company. Hence I lack a lot of resources. I made this thread to see if I am wasting my time learning OAF because I can't acquire the necessary resources (db and jdeveloper).

well, you were asking for prerequisites to start. but definitely like Som said business logic can be written in Java so Java is indeed a good starting point. I'd argue wit hSom that Abap is not needed because I think quite a lot of business logic will come from SAP applications. so Abap is also important. at the ui level, you might want to be familiar with Webdynpro. EP basic knowledge is also useful as well as the NW web as j2ee.
At the process level, basic understanding of business process notation like BPMN or ePC is also useful.

i think being an ABAP programmer, u would have an idea about the data base(how the data is stored and how it is been reterived etc---) thats enough to learn BI. first learn BW. then u can go for netweaver BI,and iff u have an idea about the accounts(commerce)it is little bit easier for u to learn.

Open JDeveloper and goto Help ->Help Topics and look around.
To make sure you installed JDeveloper properly, visit Oracle Note 416708.1

Download the appropriate file / zip for your Oracle setup.
After downloading, you should follow the instructions found in the files that were just installed / zipped.

You don't require JAVA Knowledge to learn BI. your ABAP Lnowledge is OK.
Try to get some functional knowledge so that it will help in report requirement gathering stage.

How difficult is it to learn OAF?

Guys
I have 10 yrs exp of apps development, but only of the 'traditional' d2k toolset + pl/sql, workflow etc. I now realise that i really need to know oaf , but looking at the manual it seems daunting to learn, especially when you don't have java/web development experience.
Does anyone have any advise on the best way to get to grips with oaf, start with java maybe, or go on a course?
I know the d2k toolset is basically dead, oaf (and then adf it appears) will be the predominant technology in future. looking at release 12 vision , it was noticeable how much of the new functionality was only available as oaf.

From my experience I feel BPEL has much more capability than BPM/BPMN. From learning point of view it is easier than BPEL as it has got fewer components compared to BPEL. Oracle Handbook cover basic topics like Hello World programs. Advance topics are hard to find on the web for BPM.

I am Oracle Technical Consultant with knowledge in SQL,PL/SQL,Workflows,Reports also I have some basic Knowledge of Core Java.
I have got chance to learn OAF,
Is going to study OAF will be useful for me.?
I have a feeling it is something very different from my current skill set and will be of less use to me.

Hi ,
To be able master in OAF , you need to learn the following things
1) Core Java
2) J2EE ( Just Basic of servlets and JSP , and intro EJB )
3) Design Pattern ( intro to MVC Architecture )
Then Jump into OAF , Oracle provides the tutorial tool box to learn OAF concepts , it's shipped along with Jdeveloper Patch .
If you come across any doubts , you are free to post thread in forum . Happy Learning and Good Luck .

OAF : How can we design the page in oaf in a matrix format

I am new to OAf starting to learn OAF ... i am using jdeveloper 9i version 9.0.3.5
i want to know can we design a PG in oaf ...
FOr example if i hav six fieldname that is personId ,firstname ,lastname,email,phoneno,address .... if i want to display the first 3 fields in the top row ... and the next 3 fields to be appeared in the second row
for that what i hav to do in the property inspector..... i am using messageTextInput as the item Style for this fields and region is messageComponentlayout

Please follow these steps...
Step 1: Create a messageComponentLayout region.
Step 2: Add a messageLayout region to your messageComponentLayout region. Specify the Prompt value
for the messageLayout region (this serves as the prompt for the related items; in Figure 23, this value is
"Combined Fields").
Tip: If you need to add this region in the middle of a column in another messageComponentLayout region,
simply add a messageLayout region first, and then start with Step 1.
Step 3: Add your items to the messageLayout region. Do not specify prompts for any of these items, but do
set Additional Text values for accessibilty (per the OA Framework View Coding Standards, all fields must have
prompts or additional text values).
Step 4: Configure the messageComponentLayout region's properties as follows. This ensures that the fields
render as close together as possible in a single row.

Error while running oaf page

Am learning OAF on myself while running oaf page with version 9.0.3 the page is resulting error.
Message is : The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."
Other options to try:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

1. Have you set runtime connection properties (under Project Properties) with DBC file name, user credentials etc?
2. Have to chosen Default Local IP address option under Embedded OC4J > Startup properties?

Error while deploying OAF to Oracle Apps

Hi,
I have just started learning OAF and working on Oracle Apps as Tech Consultant for last 5 years. I am getting some issues when deploying the test page into Oracle Apps. Kindly help me getting through it.
The details are given below,
I tried to deploy my test(Hello) page to OA but I am not
getting success. It works fine when I run the page from jDeveloper but when I deploy it give
out error's. Request you to let me know where am I going wrong. Following are the steps which I do,
1. Develop the Project/ JSP form using jDeveloper and test running the page HelloWorldPG.xml and it works fine.
2. The project is saved in the following directory structure.
C:software/oa/jdevhome/jdev/myprojects/oracle/apps/ak/xxtest --> this directory has the usual directories
mapped with the BC Packages of the project (Server and Webui)
Following are the Business Comp Pkgs of the project
. oracle.apps.ak.xxtest.server
. oracle.apps.ak.xxtest.webui
2. move the folder/ directory xxtest to the server directory $JAVA_TOP/oracle/apps/ak in text transfer mode
3. After copying again transfer the .java/ .class files in binary transfer mode and give the permission 777.
4. import the new directory structure/ path of the page in MDS repository

Note I even tried with XMLImporter using the below command

Somehow it doesnt work. Do we need to create the mds directory in $APPT_TOP/ak?????? as it says the page/ direcoty cannot found. So I used the 1st import option.
5. Register the Function and attach the function to a menu.

Now when I access the page I get the below errors - ( I am pasting few lines of error as I cannot paste the full text)

Anil,
You can get corresponding class files from myclasses folder which has same directory structure as myprojects in jdev.You can find myclasses folder in <jdev install dir>/jdevhome/jdev/myclasses.
But as per my personal experience it is always better to compile java files on the server, as if instance jdk version is separate from jdeveloper' jdk version, problems may arise.
Also take care when u move class files from local to application server, move in bin format as class files are binary files.
