Presario C751NR Microphone jack not detected, internal Mic works OK

I made sure that I have the most current Conexant audio driver installed: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-64867-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us〈=en&os=2093&product=3646600 When I plug a microphone into the microphone jack on the front, the driver does not detect the change and maintains a connection to the microphone built in to the display lid. Going in to the control panel and looking at the microphone's "Jack Information" indicator dot when an external microphone is plugged in shows it staying black. Does anyone have any ideas?  It has always been like that, but I would like to be able to use the microphone jack. System is running Vista Home Premium (32 Bit) with SP2 and all current system updates.

It's possible your premier pro is confusing it, does it work without that connected ?
Plantronics claim that device is OSX compatible and doesn't need any drivers (even though the mode is discontinued)

If you run Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup does that recognise the device ?

Phil_L thanks for taking the time.
Wish I could paste screen shots, but believe my settings agree with yours. Do not have "mixer tab", but do have all the rest, including most importantly all the settings.
Was (am still) hoping someone with Y410 internal mic working with Vista & Windows Recorder might respond because trying to figure out if my problem a factory defect or conflict with software: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro, OmniPage Pro 15.0, or Office 2K with Word 2002 (XP). They all run as XP SP2 compatible with no problems. Although Acro 7.0 causes Vista to stop Aero and restart automatically after exit from Acro 7.0.
One symptom which might be of interest to gurus is that when I rub my finger across the hole underneath is said to be lurking the internal mic, the gain bars in the Control Panel/Hardware & Sound/Sound/Manage Audio Devices/Recording - Microphone to light up. It seems as though Windows Recorder, Audacity etc just don't "activate" the internal mic.
    My regards, SanKey1

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi I/O - Windows 7 RC - Microphone jack not working

    Hey all,
I've recently installed the Windows 7 RC and am running the Beta drivers on it. I have a weird problem with it where the Microphone jack is being recognised as line-in, but all of the controls for the actual line are in the microphone properties. For instance, I can enable the +20dB boost, which will affect the sound coming through line-in, but it still won't recognise the actual Microphone.
Any ideas why this is? Previous behaviour in Vista was that the Microphone jack was recognised as one and I could control the recording settings from there...

    Sorry fffcmad,
Everything you said in your post does not apply to the Titanium.
The mic shares the line-in on a channel called FlexiJack. There is a tab in the "Settings" window in which you can switch between the two. You can find that window by opening the "Game Mode" window and click "Settings" on the bottom of that window. However, the problem is that mic detection is very unstable and you have to have luck to get it to work. The next step is to select the "Microphone" channel by clicking the arrow above the right-most fader in the "Game Mode" window. However, for some odd reason that option often fails to popup there. Often you'll find "Microphone FP" (note the "FP" in the name and it stands for "Front Panel") which is only available in the version with the front panel! The FlexiJack one is called "Microphone" (with the "FP" in the name). Rebooting might help, but often it doesn't. Changing input devices and changing them back might work, but often it doesn't.
Also, the Titanium has no mic boost. That is a real problem, because the mic volume is extremely low.
The short answer: The Titanium's drivers are unstable.

  • T520 3,5 mm microphone jack not working

I'm trying to use an external hardware playback source connected to the 3,5 mm microphone jack.
How does one activate/select this jack for recording/playback?

I too have been a bit puzzled as to whether the 3.5mm jack on the side was a 3 connector or 4 connector (TRRS) type plug.   When I plugged by Nokia 920 TRRS plug into here could not record any audio (was just using the MIC built into the laptop).
What I found is that if you go to CONTROL PANEL->SMARTAUDIO you get a window like this with 4 options along the bottom left of the window...
In this case im on the speaker/headset icon (3rd along). When set to CLASSIC setting the following appears to be the method of operation...
    - 3.5mm jack only works for audio out. The two builtin MICs in the screen record audio. If no audio connection made via 3.5mm jack uses builtin speakers. No external MIC operation possible via 3.5mm jack.
When set to MULTISTREAM the operation changes to...
    - A headset can be plugged in and it is possible to control whether the audio comes out builtin speakers or headset via right-clicking the SPEAKER icon at bottom right normally and selecting PLAYBACK DEVICES. Two options for me SPEAKERS (inbuilt) or HEADPHONES (3.5mm jack)....
    - A mic can now be used in the 3.5mm jack. This can be selected from the SPEAKER icon by right-clicking and selecting RECORDING DEVICES. Now get two options (EXTERNAL MIC and INTERNAL MIC)...
and viola can now record using MIC on 3.5mm jack.
Took me 1 year after getting T520 to figure this out. Fundamentally the 3.5mm jack is TRRS (4 connector) so can do stereo earpieces and MIC + usual ground connection. I realised this when I looked at the 3.5mm jack using a torch and it appeared to be a 4 connector type.
I imagine the DOCKING MIC is when it is in a docking bay in which case they probably have a dedicated (red) MIC in and a separate (GREEN) audio out.

  • Microphone jack not working

I have an HP G60 Notebook PC and whenever I want to feed something into the microphone jack it records badly. What I'm trying to do is directly feed audio into the microphone jack. I can get it to work on another laptop perfectly but for some reason when I do it on my HP it sounds like its playing back underwater. Its distorted and the volume varies. Any help would be awesome.

  • Y410p Front headphone and microphone jacks not working after repair

I recently (last month) sent  my IdeaPad Y410p in to Lenovo for repairs due to the laptop not turning on, or repeatedly restarting at the BIOS screen. The laptop was repaired by Lenovo (they replaced the motherboard), and returned it to me. The laptop has worked great sincce then, except that the two USB ports on the right side and the headphone and microphone jacks do not work. I have reinstalled the audio drivers, twice, but have not reinstalled the chipset drivers at all, as I don't want to screw around with those untiol I no more about what I should do. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Talonek, welcome to the forums,
the problem you are experiencing is probably due to the cable connecting the ports on the right side, front of system, to the mainboard unfortunately not being connected or connected properly.  Please see pdf page 52 of the system's Hardware Maintenance Manual.
I've never taken an Y410p apart, but having looked at the manual the cable connection may well be accessible to check / fix by removing the hard drive.  Another alternative would be to call service and ask them to do this for you.

  • Suggestion?  small, cheap microphone, but better than internal mic

for singing in ideas into Logic without having to turn off speakers (feedback), nor buying an audio interface yet. Just looking for a little better quality than the internal mic in my iMac and laptop.
I have to go with a USB type mic - yes?
    Thanks in advance...

I plan on buying an audio interface at some point. But right now, I'd like to find something just to sing ideas into - a sketch pad - but have it be better quality than the internal mic. Something small I can bring with my laptop, etc...
Know of anything? I've seen these little headset/microphones combos for around $40...
    Thanks.

  • IBook Not Detecting Internal Hard Drive

So, this morning my computer started acting slowly, and apps started freezing. I restarted, and to my horror found that it wouldn't boot. It starts, and the screen is gray, but then nothing happens. I have discovered that the problem must be the iBook not detecting the hard drive. I booted into a linux live CD, and found that it could access the HD. Then when I turned my comp off, and went into select boot drive mode by holding option on startup, I found that no hard drives were listed to boot from. I have also tried connecting to my computer via firewire from another computer, and that couldn't detect it either. What is the problem here? I am becoming very nervous all my work is on there. Thanks for the help.

Try booting from the Apple Restore disk and run the Apple Hardware Test that is on that disk. I fear that it may confirm a failure of your hard drive, but you never know until you try.

  • Rear Microphone Jack not working

    Greetings;
I have been trying to find a solution to my Rear Microphone not working.  First off the Microphone does work on other computers. After trying the right click on volume icon and making sure displays are selected nothing comes up still says microphone
is unplugged.   It was working before I upgraded to Win 8.  Now it doesn't even see that a device is plugged in. I use my head for when I play Warcraft via Ventirllo.  I can her people but I have found no solution to this problem.
    Any suggestions would be welcomed.
    Thank you

More often than not when a device isn't working it is because the driver has become corrupted. Re-installing a fresh copy should help

  • The microphone does not seem to be working correctly--it is very low

When using Vtok and Google video chat, I discovered that I could see and hear my daughter perfectly on my iPad2 from her computer. She could see me but not hear me. A microphone icon showed on the bottom of my screen that was grayed out with a bar through the microphone.
I cannot find any way to make any changes to the microphone setting.  The sound was on and turned up full.
Later I thought of making a short video to test the microphone. When played back, the sound was almost inaudible. I then synced the iPad and afterward the sound was slightly louder. But it is still not normal. Trying again to use Vtok or Google chat the microphone was still not working.
Any ideas on what I can do so I can video chat with my daughter? She isn't sure she can put FaceTime on her old Mac. And she successfully video chats all the time with all her friends from Google.
    Thanks, Andy in NJ

    Andy-
You might also try the iPhone App, Skype.  It works well with the iPad, and there is an auto-test server that will record your audio and then play it back.
I recall one other person who had an iPad 2 with a defective microphone.  That person could use an external headset microphone, but not the iPad's internal microphone.  If it is convenient to take it to an Apple Store Genius, they should replace a defective iPad 2 on the spot.
One thing to try that might help and won't hurt anything, is to reboot your iPad's CPU.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  After the iPad restarts, see if it has improved.

  • QuickTime player 10.2 does not record audio, mic works in other apps

    Hi,
    OS: Mountain lion
    QT player: 10.2
    Perian and Soundflower are installed.
QT is not recording audio from the computer mic or even a headphone mic, neither for audio or video recording.
QT starts always for recording with the volume down.
The mic works in other apps (skype or garaband).
I am not able to find either the plist files for QT.
I used QT in the past to record audio from the computer mic.
I recently updated the OS from lion to mountain lion.
Any ideas why is not working?

  • Microphone Through TRRS Jack Not Detected in Windows

The problem has been around for quite some time now, i.e., since the so-called TRRS jacks were introduced in MacBooks. In these, a single 3.5 mm jack connector is used to combine a stereo pair OUT with a mono microphone IN.
People are frustrated by the fact that the microphone on their headset is properly detected in OS X, but not in Windows/Bootcamp.
It appears that the problem stems from Microsoft's HDAudio.sys driver:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj123860.aspx#jack
The workaround mentioned in the article above does not work due to the particular way the TRRS jack and the audio chip (cs4206, cs4207 and cs4208) are wired in the MacBooks: only a single jack detection event is possible, and if one is detected, a value is set in the chip, which reports the presence of a microphone. In this configuration, HDAudio.sys sees only one detection event associated with the headphones, and there is no way a second event associated with the microphone can be triggered physically.
So, it would seem that Microsoft has to rectify the way their HDAudio.sys behaves with respect to these TRRS jacks.
That being said, Apple provides a driver for the cs420x chips in their BootCamp packages. Assuming that it reads the status of the audio chip and transmits both the jack detection event and the associated values to the HDAudio.sys driver, it should be possible for the BootCamp driver to emulate those two trigger events slightly spaced in time that HDAudio.sys needs for now.
Does anyone know whether Apple, Microsoft, or both, are working on this particular issue?

From MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) - Technical Specifications
    Audio
    Stereo speakers
    Dual microphones
    Headphone port
Support for Apple iPhone headset with remote and microphone
Support for audio line out (digital/analog)
There is an additional complication, because the S/PDIF (aka TOSlink mini Digital Optical) is also in the same connector, which has a micro switch and can cause problems for events. It works with the Apple Headphone/Microphone combination well, but other similar headsets may have issues. Have you tried Windows 8 (or 8.1)? The iPhone TRRS works correctly on a 13" 2012 MBP and detects the devices. I will also check the Event Viewer on W8.1 and post the Device Manager screen when I have access to the 2012 MBP.
