Presario CQ56-115DX Webcam Help

I'm pretty sure that this model doesn't have a built-in webcam in it. It has a spot at the top for one, right next to the microphone hole. My question is, can I buy the webcam separately and put it in, or ship it off to HP to have it put in for me (sonce it has the spot at the top for one)? I love this laptop and would really like to have a webcam built into it, instead of having to deal with the hassle of carrying around an external one.

The option to add webcam is available only for CTO models where notebooks are customized  while ordering directly from HP. I dont think you can send it to HP  to add webcam.
I guess this thread over here will answer your question better. If you really want to add a webcam by yourself, if you open display assembly of your laptop, the (7) part is nothing but your webcam.
If you have some knowledge about a laptop disassembly. The Service Manual is available over here and Part# for your webcam module would be 626656-001 which you can order and add it on your computer by yourself or taking the notebook to a local technician.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Problems

    Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Laptop. It is still under warranty. Within the last week the power of the laptop has been messed up. When I have the laptop unplugged, which I don't very often, the laptop shuts down after an hour without any warning. So I plug back in the laptop and it still shows anywhere for 40-70 percent battery left. Why is it doing this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shut down the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.
If the above has not helped, download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.
    http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm
If this reports a problem with the battery ( or even if it doesn't, but the problem is still occuring ), contact HP and arrange to have the battery replaced/notebook repaired under warranty.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • Compaq presario cq56 115dx will not power on blinking lights, not a disk drive problem

I own two identical Compaq Presario CQ56 115-DX, and the one I use every day stopped powering on.  Shows blinking caps lock light and orange WIFI light does not turn blue to turn on.  The fan powers on, but the screen doesn't come on at all.  I tried hard resetting several times and it didn't work.  I swapped the hard drive of the malfunctioning CQ56 to the other one that was working normally, and it works OK normally.  No hard disk corruption or problems.
Any idea how to fix this problem laptop?

    Hey @rajpodn ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're looking for info on swapping out the CPU in your notebook.
You will find everything you need here: Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. The instructions you need start on page 75. Keep in mind that the CPU itself may not be the issue, it could be the socket on the motherboard preventing the notebook from reading the CPU, so even replacing the CPU may not work, as you may need a replacement motherboard. I do not suggest replacing the motherboard as doing so requires HP Proprietary software to reinstall the Service-ID necessary for reinstalling Windows.
*Caution - If you do install the new CPU be careful with the thermal paste. A small pea sized amount should be more than enough. Put the paste in the exact center and carefully spread so there is a fine layer almost to the edge of the CPU. Remember that the heatsink will press very firmly onto the CPU and spread the paste more and you don't want any squishing out as this can cause electrical shorts if the paste has a high metal content.
The part you will want is: AMD V140 processor (2.3 GHz, 512-MB, L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore 25 W. The part number for this is: 616333-001.
You can order the CPU directly from HP here: HP Part Surfer, but you may be able to find it cheaper on sites like eBay, Amazon, or Newegg.
Hopefully this covers everything you're after!

  • I have a Presario CQ56-115DX. I attempted a ram upgrade now I only get bsod.Help?

I recently attemptede a ram upgrade to 2-4 GB PC3 DDR3 1066Mhz modules but the notebook would not turn on(aka.....black screen and no sound, just blinking caps lock). I then put the original RAM back into the previously working pc and it blue screened. I attempted a system repair with a factory OEM of windows 7 but it was unsuccessful. The error tells me to remove or uninstall newly added software or hardware. I ran a memtest from bios on both the memory and the hard drive which detected no problems. I reformatted the hard drive and attempted a reinstall but the computer blue-screened during installation before the files were even installed. Could someone please help?

Try install with just one memory module installed, try the other slot if it does not work on the first try.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX will not turn on

I have a Compaq Presario CQ-56 115DX that is almost a year old. My system first had problems crashing whenever I would watch video content, I reinstalled both Java and Flash, but that did not resolve anything.  After that my computer would keep checking my file system on C for consistency whenever I would turn it on, even after telling me that it found no problems. After that I received a message that my C file system was corrupted, I attempted to back up my files and do a system restore to the factory settings but it crashed during the process. Since then it will not turn on all the way though the battery will charge and the On button lights up, as do the WiFi key and the Caps Lock key. (The Caps lock key blinks once, which according to the HP errors signal website means that the CPU has problems.) I have tried holding down the button to reset it, I have also taken out the battery and plugged it in.
Is there anything I can do to repair this? Or is it a lost cause?

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM Webcam Module Cable Included?

    Hello,
I recently purchased the Webcam Module part for my Compaq Pressario CQ56-219WM as instructed here. My laptop has the exact same bezel as pictured there. Before I open up my laptop I was wondering if the cable is already included inside. Do I need to purchase the Display Cable Kit?

The Webcam module (Part#:626656-001) is hardware part which you can order from HP or elsewhere and install by yourself. It is (7) shown in picture below.

  • No sound/Crackling noise on my Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Notebook

This computer is barely 3 months old. Everything worked fine first 2 weeks I had it but one day the sound went out. It didnt go out completely though. It goes in and out with this horrid crackling white noise. The better the sound gets the worse the white noise gets. I tried running every troubleshoot program i could find and everything says its working fine. My sound card is Realtek HD something or other. Yesterday I got an update for the bios from HP and it fixed the problem. But today it started happening again exactly the same. Im thinking something is wrong in the BIOs. The computer is still under warranty but i dont want to have to send it in and risk losing all of my stuff or getting my personel info hijacked. Please help!!!

i did the restore, too, and it didn't work. that's what baffled me! imagine restoring to factory default and the audio still does not work? i must admit that i did download one of the updates and got the audio working. it was temporary because as the Windows Vista updates were being applied, at one point I lost audio again.
i did a bit more research last night and found an interesting post. it requires manually amending some files, so i'm okay to give that a try. as this has been quite the issue to troubleshoot, i will post a solution if I find it. i don't want to settle on this... don't give up!

  • Compaq Laptop Model: CQ56-115DX versus Toshiba Netbook Model: NB505-N500BL

I'm looking to see which one of these is best on performance only since I know the laptop is bigger then the netbook. Both are the same price. It seems like the Compaq would be a no brainer until you read the reviews on each. Toshiba has better reviews by far even though the Compaq looks more powerful from the specs. This would mainly be used for web browsing and facebook gaming. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello,
Best Buy has brought your posting to my attention as you would like to purchase from Best Buy the HP CQ56-115DX versus a Toshiba netbook.   I am pleased to know that you are interested in purchasing an HP notebook.  HP is very proud of its line of products which its reps are encouraged to promote without criticizing its competitors.   The two products are different.  Do want a notebook or a netbook?  Redwyv provides a valuable posting of the pros and cons in:
    http://www.forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Computers-Home-Networking/Help-What-laptop-is-right-for-me/m-p/2815...
You will see in the above link, the similarly priced HP Mini Netbook, Model 210.
And as Redwyv has stated in this posting, you do have 14 days to return the product to Best Buy.
Based on your posting, I probably shouldn't distract you from your two choices as it appears you have already done your own research and have narrowed down your choice based primarily on price.  I am sure you have noticed the significant difference in screen size and memory.  You mentioned doing some Facebook gaming.  The fact that you specified "Facebook gaming" indicates you are aware of the requirements for more "intensive" (for lack of a better word) gaming.
You do comment that the HP laptop is certainly more powerful, but you have read negative reviews.  There are also some very strong reviews for the CQ56-115DX.  You can find a summary of reviews at:

  • New hard drive install on compaq cq56-115dx laptop

the 250gb hard drive on my compaq presario cq56-115dx failed after 3 years.  i have installed a new hard drive and used the compaq recovery disks 1-4 to do a system install option.  everything ran fine during the installs of the disks and even prompted me to remove disks so the rest of the configuration could take place.
right now, the laptop has been on over an hour with the lcd screen lit up but it is blank.  the fan is running and i have yet to see the indicator light flash for the hard drive.
i cannot tell if anything is going on.  really nervous about this.
how long can this go on?
how will i know if the recovery has failed in any way?
is there anyway to restart the process over again?
    what are my options?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ 56-115DX that has just turned 3 years old and the hard drive apparently has gone bad . I'm trying to fond instructions on how to install the new upgrade , and where the best place close to me would be to find one would be ! I'm in central Florida in the 33880 area code . And what about the installation ? I can't seem to find anything on this pc . I really like the pc and want to keep it ! I hate Windows 8 ! Sheesh

  • Fan replacement CQ56-115DX

I need to replace the fan on my HP/Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Notebook. I have tried to open the case. I removed all the screws from the back. I removed the battery, the memory cards, the disk drive and all screws in these compartments. The edges of the keyboard will unsnap with fingernail pressure and I can lift it a half inch or so all the way around. But there appears to be some kind of screw or other fastener close to the middle of the computer. I looked diligently but can not see where this fastener is. I used a moderate amount of force, but do not want to crack anything.
How do I loosen this final fastener so I can get into this laptop?
I could not find an appropriate forum for this question. You need a mechanical forum for the laptops.

    Here is the Service Manual:

Look particularly at page 47 which shows the screws holding down the keyboard.

  • How much does it cost to get a webcam installed on a presario CQ56-219wm from HP?

Just Purchased a Presario CQ56-219wm, thought it had a webcam installed, obviously it doesn't ; fooled like many others. How do I get one installed from HP and how much does it cost? Where do you send the computer and how long does it take? Estimates coming from San Antonio, TX. Thanks

    Hi ezpowell,
This laptop doesn't come with a webcam as a hardware item on the specifications.  Did you see in the computer specifications that this laptop had a webcam installed?

  • Does a Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM have a webcam?

My Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM seems to have a place for a webcam, the manual says there is a webcam there (in select models) and the device drivers claim I have a "virtual" webcam.
So do I have a webcam or not?

According to the specs for your notebook, no.
