Presario CQ56 Notebook PC Fan Problems

Okay, I've had this Laptop for about 10 Months now, and The Fan's making weird Noises, and it overheats too easy.
How do I go about fixing this?

I would recommend you updating the latest BIOS for your notebook from the support and driver download page on hp.com, and you can also follow the instructions listed in the following document::
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01657439&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us
Hope this helps!

  • I have a Presario CQ56 Notebook PC. It say I have no Hard drive why?

I was given a Presario CQ56 Notebook PC.  It is now upon turning it on says to install an operating system.  It uses Windows 7 it then tells me that there is no hard disk.  Can someone help me please.  The warranty started on 02/17/2011

    Hi:
Start your PC and at the HP welcome screen, tap the F10 key to get access to the BIOS.
In the BIOS menus, there should ba a diagnostics menu for the hard drive and memory.
Run the diagnostics on the hard drive.
If it fails you need a new hard drive. If your notebook is still under warranty, you will need to contact HP Support to see where you go from there.

  • Compaq presario cq56 115dx will not power on blinking lights, not a disk drive problem

I own two identical Compaq Presario CQ56 115-DX, and the one I use every day stopped powering on.  Shows blinking caps lock light and orange WIFI light does not turn blue to turn on.  The fan powers on, but the screen doesn't come on at all.  I tried hard resetting several times and it didn't work.  I swapped the hard drive of the malfunctioning CQ56 to the other one that was working normally, and it works OK normally.  No hard disk corruption or problems.
Any idea how to fix this problem laptop?

    Hey @rajpodn ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're looking for info on swapping out the CPU in your notebook.
You will find everything you need here: Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. The instructions you need start on page 75. Keep in mind that the CPU itself may not be the issue, it could be the socket on the motherboard preventing the notebook from reading the CPU, so even replacing the CPU may not work, as you may need a replacement motherboard. I do not suggest replacing the motherboard as doing so requires HP Proprietary software to reinstall the Service-ID necessary for reinstalling Windows.
*Caution - If you do install the new CPU be careful with the thermal paste. A small pea sized amount should be more than enough. Put the paste in the exact center and carefully spread so there is a fine layer almost to the edge of the CPU. Remember that the heatsink will press very firmly onto the CPU and spread the paste more and you don't want any squishing out as this can cause electrical shorts if the paste has a high metal content.
The part you will want is: AMD V140 processor (2.3 GHz, 512-MB, L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore 25 W. The part number for this is: 616333-001.
You can order the CPU directly from HP here: HP Part Surfer, but you may be able to find it cheaper on sites like eBay, Amazon, or Newegg.
Hopefully this covers everything you're after!

    Hi @nellyb1991 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook and Windows 7 reinstall. You must use a disk that is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as that is what came with your system. Here is a link on changing the boot order to use the CD/DVD to boot.
Have you tried F11 on startup and using the HP Recovery Manager?
    I hope this helps.

  • Keyboard of Presario CQ56-112SA

I bought my Presario CQ56 Notebook about 6 months ago. Recently I am finding that one or other of the keys will not depress. I rang HP and with their help I removed and re-loaded the keyboard driver. This made no difference. HP then suggested that I buy a compressed air canister and fire it around the keyboard. I did this but am still finding that a key, usually not the same one,  will not, or is difficult to, depress. Can anyone tell me what is going wrong with such a new machine and what I should do about it?

Get it fixed while it's under the initial warrenty.  4 months ago my d key stopped working, can of air did nothing for it.  Now, it goes off at random with no one touching, sometimes locking up my computer and forcing it to shut down.
Fix it early...take advantage of the warrenty if you still have it.

  • Fan issue - Compaq Presario CQ56-106SA

    Product : Compaq Presario CQ56-106SA
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium
    Issue: Fan error (90b)
    Greetings all ,
First off I am very familiar with computer systems and component as I work on them fairly regularly however I am currently unsure to what I should do from this point.
I got the notebook laptop as a present a few years ago and its seen better days however I recenty decided to use it again however when I started the laptop I got the fan error (90b) so I took a look at the fan and it wasnt spining hense the error , so I checked the  HP support site and looked at the error and also did a google search to see if anyone else had fixed it.
So I opened the laptop up (since it was out of warranty anyways) and I got to the fan and removed the heatsink and fan component and I opened that up and there was a buildup of dust obviously needless to say i cleaned it up and put the component back together and placed it back in and ensured everything was connected correctly and started up the computer however the fan still isnt spining and I still keep the getting the error.
So my question is , If I took out the component is there a way of testing to see if there is any fault with the fan itself? (eg. putting a small amount of power through it to see if the fan spins?)
Or should I just replace the fan and heatsink component completely and hope that the issue doesnt persist?
Any help would be appreciated , just to have someone elses opinion?

    Hi
As you have mentioned that the Fan is not spinning the issue is with Fan & also replacing the heatsink apply terminal paste and that should take care of the issue. I have also seen sometimes issue might be with the Systemboard connector which is bad might cause this issue.
This is very difficult to guess

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Problems

    Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Laptop. It is still under warranty. Within the last week the power of the laptop has been messed up. When I have the laptop unplugged, which I don't very often, the laptop shuts down after an hour without any warning. So I plug back in the laptop and it still shows anywhere for 40-70 percent battery left. Why is it doing this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shut down the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.
If the above has not helped, download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.
    http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm
If this reports a problem with the battery ( or even if it doesn't, but the problem is still occuring ), contact HP and arrange to have the battery replaced/notebook repaired under warranty.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • Notebook fan problem

    Hi,
I've had my laptop for 2 years now, my laptop: Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC, has a fan problem. My fan stopped working when I turn on my laptop. After using my laptop for a while (when it starts to turn overheat), my fan kicks in and only works for exactly one hour, after the hour, my fan turns off. While the fan is on, it cools down my laptop. My fan won't working again until a couple hours later or when I restart my laptop and wait for it to overheat again.
Can anyone help me with this problem?

If you just bought it and it's only a few months old then it should be covered for a replacement.  You shouldn't be forced to buy a new one, HP should give you one to make it right.
I hear you, if you are busy you don't have time but don't let them swindle you.  At least give the computer to someone who does have time and tell them to do a web chat the warranty people and explain that it runs at 98 C (or over 200 F) and that it needs to be replaced and could have burned you.  Do this before the warranty period is gone.  I think new computers come with a year warranty.
I say webchat because it is easier to keep a record of who you have spoken with and what they say in case they try to weasel out of replacing it.  If they give you any trouble about it, post the log or send it to me in a message and I will tell you how to deal with them.
For several months I had to send emails back and forth and go through three years of receipts to get them to honor a warranty and I saved the logs of our chats and I know every sneaky trick they use to try and deny people service.
