My product is Compaq Presario CQ40-327TU Notebook PC originally with Windows XP edition. Recently I installed Windows 7 in my laptop from USB pen drive. Installation went fine, but it does not ask for C drive format. I installed in the C drive where Windows XP installed previously . After installation of my laptop working fine. Some times the screen goes blank (black) and come back after few minutes and in notification area it shows "Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7 (R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." like that I am getting a notification. In my system information, I checked it shows Windows 7 in OS. It happens only when I toggle to different windows or applications. I checked display adapters in device manager and it shows "Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)" . When I tried to update display adapter it showed already uptodate. Can I expect some solution for my problem here. Also after OS installed I found Windows.old folder in C drive. Can I removed that folder?

It appears that your computer meets the minimum requirement for installing Windows 7. Please download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to confirm this before attempting to install Windows 7.
Based on the specs for your Compaq Presario CQ40-327TU Notebook, this model shipped from the factory with Windows Vista installed. Here is the Compaq Presario CQ40-327TU Notebook PC Drivers page for your computer. HP has provided only Windows Vista drivers for your computer.
You should be using the current BIOS version before upgrading to Windows 7.
Please see the General Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for HP Laptops by CherylG for specific steps to be taken when installing Windows 7 on your computer. This guide will also direct you to the proper drivers needed for your computer to function completely under Windows 7. Please refer to "Part 1 - Models Level 1" for information specific to your model.

Hi,
The notebook will have originally shipped with a Recovery Partition on the hard drive - if this is still intact, you can access it by tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on - see the 4th heading on the following link for further details.

I have never been able to use my built-in webcam. I have installed the latest Youcam drivers and still an error message - "No webcam detected, if you are using an integrated camera make sure that it is turned on".
I have also followed instructions on this website - I have gone to Device manager and "scan for hardware changes" but I never get an icon for "imaging" hardware.
I know the computer has the hardware as my parents have an IDENTICAL computer - bought from the same shop at the same time!
Please help!

You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix the issue.

Testing a Webcam With MediaSmart in Windows
If both these links does not work then you might have to call HP Techincal support and get the part replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

Presario CQ62-2199WM WQ778UA#ABA - DST Failure

The HP Advanced System Diagnostics (ver. 3.7.0.0) says that both the short and long DST (HDD test) Failed. The InsydeH20 Setup Utility (rev 3.5) HDD test says the short and long DST test PASSED. What is going on and witch one is correct ? This is on a Compaq Presario CQ62-219wm WQ778UA#ABA with a Seagate Momentus 7200rpm, 250GB, 16MB Cache, SATA 3.0GB/s, ST9250410AS . Any advice will be appreciated.

Your notebook specifications, according to the Mainetnence & Service guide:
Supports all 9.5-mm,6.35-cm(2.50-in) SATA hard drives
SSD drives will work in your notebook and you will find that the performance increase is incredible. SSD capacity is a matter of how much you are willing to spend.
My own preferences are OCZ Technology, Intel, Corsair and Crucial SSD drives.
The current generation of SSD drives is SATA3, but your notebook will never see that kind of bandwidth because of its own SATA controller limitations.
I highly recommend that you take a read of this Tom's Hardware article before making the decision on which one to buy.
Consider an SSD upgrade kit instead of just an SSD by itself.
Otherwise, upgrading to an SSD can be for some people, a bit daunting because of the technical nature of the utility (specifically Diskpart) required to prepare the SSD for use. The upgrade kits are delivered with a usb cable that enables connection of the new SSD to one of your notebook's usb ports. With the USB connnected SSD and the included cloning software an upgrade is a pretty straightforward process. Clone the current drive and the remove the old one and replace it with the new high bandwidth SSD. That is all it takes.

My Notebook screen is not working. My notebook boot up fine. the lights and the fan is working. When I plug the external VGA to my lcd screen, it works fine. Only the notbook monitor is not working.

I just had to replace the hard drive on my presario cq62 laptop it is less than 2 years old

My hard drive on my Presario CQ62 laptop running windows 7 failed .I replaced it with the exact same one. It rebooted and ran then all of a sudden it will crash and say there is no hard drive. Then I can turn it off again and most often it will reboot windows and work for a while then it will crash again and say there is no hard drive .I used the recovery DVDs I Made when I first bought this computer. They seemed to install fine what is the deal!!

In this case I would check and reseat (not reset) the HDD first. Most likely due to hardware and the pins may not contact properly.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62-213AX but i can't get 5.1 surround over HDMI. How can i get this?

My Compaq Presario CQ62-213AX should be able to output 5.1 surround over HDMI but in 'supported formats' only stereo is listed.
This computer has a ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5430 and according to the specs,

try this: go to Windows Sound, then playback devices, then click on speakers icon (should have realtek as default). Click on that, and click configure
if realtek has a sound manager, try clicking on that, and a config dialog might appear

There is no way to overclock in hardware as with a desktop. There may be software overclocking options, visit www.overclock.net but any overclocking of a laptop is ill-advised and darn near impossible, anyway. The cooling system is built to work at stock speeds and canot be improved very much. If you want a faster computer, sell the one you have and buy a new one. If you want to try to game on the system you have it is a lost cause. The problem is not the CPU it is the GPU, which cannot be upgraded in any way as it is soldered to the motherboard.

What do white and orange battery charger lights signify? [presario cq62-214nr]

Just next to where the AC battery charger plugs into my Presario cq62-214nr there's an LED light that changes color, and may remain on continuously, or flash, in different ways at different times.
Here are some of the ways in which the lights display:
- white light continuously on
- white light flashing on and off every two seconds
- white light on for one second, then orange light on for one second, then this sequence repeated [in other
words, alternating white and orange lights flashing]
- orange light flashing on and off every two seconds
Could someone tell me what these different LED signals mean? And also, if there are other LED signals that are possible, but I haven't mentioned them, I'd be interested to know what they mean, too.

No, I didn't charge it a lot in the past.
After several hours the charger light didn't change to green. So I finally called Apple explaining my problem and they told me that if I re-calibrated and resetted the SMC without results then the battery should be faulty. Now I have ordered a new $139 battery from the AppleStore (taxes included), I hope once it get's here the problem will be solved, otherwise I will literally through the laptop though the window!!
By the way, they told me that I'm not elegible for AppleCare so I must buy the parts by myself.
My order still says "not yet shipped", how long will it stay before changing to "prepared for shipment"?
