Presario CQ62 upgrade

It would be ten times lovely if i could figure how and what kind of processor would be good at a fair price for playing them more hi-end games. My graphics card works wonders, but, however, the CPU doesn't do as much work making me pick lower end gaming specs. Thanks in advance.

Can you upgrade the processor in a Presario CQ62-210us

I just bought a compaq presario cq62-210us, and I didn't realize that it had a single core celeron 900 processor, so what I was wondering is if it is possible to upgrade to a dual core processor.
I know that it is hard to upgrade the processor on laptops, but is there a specific chip that would fit in this model? If not, then is there a simuilar model that has the same internal configuration, that I could just switch the processor with the model I currently have?

Presario CQ62-215DX hardware upgrade

Hi there, HP Forum.
I love HP computers. So, when I needed a laptop, I chose a nice Presario CQ62-215DX. However, I didn't realize it wouldn't fully fit the bill for what I needed in a laptop. It's fine for browsing the web, listening to music, or whatnot, but not for programming and the occasional round of TF2/Left 4 Dead.
So, I came to the conclusion that I either needed to: 1.) Upgrade the laptop I already own, or 2.) Buy a new laptop that will do everything I want.
I've checked around the Internet, and I realize I can upgrade to a Phenom N920 quad core, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and I'm almost certain HP sells extended batteries for this particular machine. However, I was wondering if a new laptop would be a better choice, and if so, what laptop do you guys recommend for a person who does a decent bit of programming, and plays games like Minecraft and Left 4 Dead 2?
So...what do you guys think would be the better route? Buy a new machine, or find parts online to fix up my current machine?

You can easily upgrade to 4 gigs of RAM but that will not help with your gaming. I do not recommend laptop processor upgrades. For one thing, have you checked the price of the top of the line laptop processors? When you buy just one, you pay an arm and a leg. The graphics cannot be upgraded at all so even if you could manage to upgrade to the Phenom processor you are not going to be able to play games. And I think the laptops with the Sempron processor cannot be upgraded to dual and quad core cpus anyway; the motherboards are different. Sell your laptop. Low end laptops keep their value real well and you should be able to get back most of what you paid. Then go scrape together about a thousand bucks because that is what it takes to get a decent gaming laptop. I configured a dv6z right here on this site with 8 gigs of RAM, the ATI HD 6550 1 gig video card (still a mediocre performer), a 640 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, and the Phenom N970 processor quad core 2.2 ghz for just under $1000. Personally I would prefer an Intel laptop with an i7 and even better graphics but you would pay even more for that.

There is no way to overclock in hardware as with a desktop. There may be software overclocking options, visit www.overclock.net but any overclocking of a laptop is ill-advised and darn near impossible, anyway. The cooling system is built to work at stock speeds and canot be improved very much. If you want a faster computer, sell the one you have and buy a new one. If you want to try to game on the system you have it is a lost cause. The problem is not the CPU it is the GPU, which cannot be upgraded in any way as it is soldered to the motherboard.

Presario CQ62-2199WM WQ778UA#ABA - DST Failure

The HP Advanced System Diagnostics (ver. 3.7.0.0) says that both the short and long DST (HDD test) Failed. The InsydeH20 Setup Utility (rev 3.5) HDD test says the short and long DST test PASSED. What is going on and witch one is correct ? This is on a Compaq Presario CQ62-219wm WQ778UA#ABA with a Seagate Momentus 7200rpm, 250GB, 16MB Cache, SATA 3.0GB/s, ST9250410AS . Any advice will be appreciated.

Your notebook specifications, according to the Mainetnence & Service guide:
Supports all 9.5-mm,6.35-cm(2.50-in) SATA hard drives
SSD drives will work in your notebook and you will find that the performance increase is incredible. SSD capacity is a matter of how much you are willing to spend.
My own preferences are OCZ Technology, Intel, Corsair and Crucial SSD drives.
The current generation of SSD drives is SATA3, but your notebook will never see that kind of bandwidth because of its own SATA controller limitations.
I highly recommend that you take a read of this Tom's Hardware article before making the decision on which one to buy.
Consider an SSD upgrade kit instead of just an SSD by itself.
Otherwise, upgrading to an SSD can be for some people, a bit daunting because of the technical nature of the utility (specifically Diskpart) required to prepare the SSD for use. The upgrade kits are delivered with a usb cable that enables connection of the new SSD to one of your notebook's usb ports. With the USB connnected SSD and the included cloning software an upgrade is a pretty straightforward process. Clone the current drive and the remove the old one and replace it with the new high bandwidth SSD. That is all it takes.

My Notebook screen is not working. My notebook boot up fine. the lights and the fan is working. When I plug the external VGA to my lcd screen, it works fine. Only the notbook monitor is not working.

I just had to replace the hard drive on my presario cq62 laptop it is less than 2 years old

My hard drive on my Presario CQ62 laptop running windows 7 failed .I replaced it with the exact same one. It rebooted and ran then all of a sudden it will crash and say there is no hard drive. Then I can turn it off again and most often it will reboot windows and work for a while then it will crash again and say there is no hard drive .I used the recovery DVDs I Made when I first bought this computer. They seemed to install fine what is the deal!!

In this case I would check and reseat (not reset) the HDD first. Most likely due to hardware and the pins may not contact properly.

Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop does not see SD card

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop (Windows 7 64bit) that has a built in media card reader that has never worked.
When I insert the SD card it makes the "USB Beep Up sound" that says it sees the card - but when I go to MY COMPUTER, there is no device listed for the SD card. How do I read and write to an SD card with this laptop?

I have done that.
In DEVICE MANAGER I can see the SD Card show up under "Disk Drives" when the SD card is inserted, and disappear when it is removed.
Under Storage>Disk Management the SD card shows up as drive 1 (main drive is drive 0) but no drive letter.
When I right-click on the SD card Drive 1 and try to change to a drive letter, I get an error message and it will not let me. It will not let me format either.
The driver is from microsoft and is old - 6/21/2006. I did some google searching and read that a driver update would fix the issue. I uninstalled the card reader driver, got a new driver from HP and installed it, and when I inserted the SD card it loaded up the old driver...ugh.

My Compaq Presario CQ62-213AX should be able to output 5.1 surround over HDMI but in 'supported formats' only stereo is listed.

My other HP laptop (DV7) is doing this fine so my system setup is OK.
I have tried a full factory reset and have fully updated my system but it still doesn't work.

try this: go to Windows Sound, then playback devices, then click on speakers icon (should have realtek as default). Click on that, and click configure
if realtek has a sound manager, try clicking on that, and a config dialog might appear

What do white and orange battery charger lights signify? [presario cq62-214nr]

Just next to where the AC battery charger plugs into my Presario cq62-214nr there's an LED light that changes color, and may remain on continuously, or flash, in different ways at different times.
Here are some of the ways in which the lights display:
- white light continuously on
- white light flashing on and off every two seconds
- white light on for one second, then orange light on for one second, then this sequence repeated [in other
words, alternating white and orange lights flashing]
- orange light flashing on and off every two seconds
Could someone tell me what these different LED signals mean? And also, if there are other LED signals that are possible, but I haven't mentioned them, I'd be interested to know what they mean, too.

No, I didn't charge it a lot in the past.
After several hours the charger light didn't change to green. So I finally called Apple explaining my problem and they told me that if I re-calibrated and resetted the SMC without results then the battery should be faulty. Now I have ordered a new $139 battery from the AppleStore (taxes included), I hope once it get's here the problem will be solved, otherwise I will literally through the laptop though the window!!
By the way, they told me that I'm not elegible for AppleCare so I must buy the parts by myself.
My order still says "not yet shipped", how long will it stay before changing to "prepared for shipment"?

Hi there
I need some help with a computer i am fixing. it is a Compaq Presario CQ62. when i power on with ac power plugged in everything is fine but when i pull the ac out and let it run on battery power, the machine freezes and does not respond. when i boot up the computer with no ac it powers on fine past the starting windows then shows a cursor and a blank screen...

Echo on my Win7 Compaq Presario CQ62-231NR

This uses the AC97 audio chip, apparently, (or compatible to) and uses the Realtek sound manager (usually soundman.exe) to configure it. You should be able to double click on the volume control icon in your taskbar (lower right hand corner, looks like a speaker) and go into the advanced options to play with that. Or just find the Realtek Sound Manager, either or.
