Presario V3641AU want to upgrade current hard disk

Hi all,
I have a Compaq Presario V3500 p/n V3641AU - the current hard disk is a seagate Momentus Laptop 5400.3 St9160821AS 160Gig. I would prefer to upgrade to another Momentus Laptop like a 250Gig 7200 - Can anyone tell me which hard disks I can upgrade to.
Thanks

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01154809.pdf
Supported hard drive can be found in chapter 3 on page 29.
I don't know why there are different drives based on intel or amd hardware.
I also don't know why any decent brand 250 - 500 GB 7,200 RPM drive wouldn't work.

    Hi tchmielewski,
You should look into [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync Firefox Sync]. I think it will do everything that you are asking for. This will allow you to have all of your Firefox preferences and settings shared across multiple computers.
You could also create a backup on a USB drive in case of catastrophic failture. I would suggest that you back up your personal information and bookmarks using the article [[Backing up your information]].
    Hopefully this helps!

I have a rather old iMac 20" (mid 2007) and I want to upgrade the Hard drive. How do I change it? How do I transfer all my applications? May I just copy the old hd into the new one? Thanks.

There are many online tutorials on how to change out the HD on a mid 2007 iMac. One of the originals is from 2007 and is Upgrade your iMac 20" or iMac 24" aluminum (mid 2007) to 1TB Hard Drive and 4 GB RAM - DIY Guide. As far as migrating your system Apple helps out with that in Setup Assistant which automatically starts when you turn on a new Mac for the first time. After you have installed the new HD you will have to format the new HD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then you will have to install OS X. The first time you turn it on Setup Assistant will start. Follow the directions and you will be fine. In order to restore your information you will need to backup what is on the current internal HD first. I'd recommend using Time Machine (Assuming you are using Leopard or later) AND also creating a bootable clone using either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Please complete your profile so at the very least we know what version of OS X your machine has installed.

Yesterday, I tried a SEAGATE SSHD but my screen was always a showing a QUESTION MARK (?). It's not the cable because when I put back the old original version, everything works...Any sugestion of brabnding or procédure to upgrade my hard drive?

The largest 2.5" dia SATA drives available are 2 TB in capacity.
Have you tried the Seagate SSHD connected externally to the MBP via USB?  The drive itself may be faulty.
    Ciao.

  • I want to upgrade my hard drive

I want to upgrade my hard drive. At the moment it is 160gb in a 2009 MacBook Pro.
Do I just need a standard 2.5" sata hard drive?
I was looking at this one     500GB Hitachi 2.5” Travelstar HDD, SATA, 5400rpm, 8MB Cache.
    Is this suitable.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

    Hi keepsy,
I found one, WD Scorpio Black 7200 RPM SATA 2.5-inch that claims not to impede the batter life. Amazon (US)Or if you are in the UK, then Amazon UK.  Hope that helps, although I don't know if Western Digital's claim is correct (you may wish to phone Apple to find out).
Another one Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB Internal hard drive - 300 MBps - 7200 rpm , but the emphasis is more on performance.

  • How to upgrade the hard disk of the nomad jukebox

I read the FAQ of nomad on nomadness.net, I wanna know how to upgrade the hard disk of old nomad jukebox with a bigger one?
I also read a artical on tom's hardware about this,
    http://www7.tomshardware.com/mobile/20000/mp3-3.html
    but he gave a link
    http://www.kuren.org/jukebox
that is not available. He mentioned that it need to clone the fist 65536 sectors from the old disk to the new one, but I have not the old hard disk( I bought a second hand nomad jukebox without the original hard disk). How should I do?
Does someone have the image file of the fist 65536 sectors from the old disk?
    Thank you!

That was the old method before Creative published their Bootcode Flasher software.
    Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php...ticle&artid=24
All files mentioned are available somewhere on Nomadness. Also check out the sticky thread in their JB section of the forum as it lists what hard dri'ves will work in a JB and which ones won't. I hope you haven't already bought your upgrade hard dri've.
I used the above method without any problems and now have a 20GB JB.

  • Upgrading g60 hard disk

My hard disk got corrupted and since im going to replace it,i wanted to upgrade it from 320gb to 500gb. I have an hp g60 laptop,an also can i just start from scratch reinstalling Windows Vista since the old hard disk is broken, but i have my product key no. If so can give me an advice on what to buy? I really want to fix this laptop bcoz this is the last gift my mom gave to me before she past away,i really do appreciate all the help i can get thanks

Sorry for the loss. Where are you located (country)? Do you have some means of installing Windows Vista? Did you perhaps create the HP recovery disks for the laptop? Yes if you can get a copy of OEM Windows Vista of the same type as your license Code you can reinstall with that Code but Vista media is getting hard to find.  You can install any 2.5 inch wide and 9.5 mm thick SATA laptop hard drive. We can help you find a good 500 gig model at a fair price once we know the place it has to be shipped.

  • I want to upgrade my hard drive. Need suggestions.

I have a MacBook (white-early 2009). I am looking into upgrading my hard drive. I want at least 500GB. My budget is $120. I will be doing photo and video editing (not sure if that matters). I saw this one on Amazon and am wondering if it would be compatible: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Scorpio-Black-Mobile/dp/B004LR1RPK/ref=wl_ it_dp_o_pC?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1JJHTKGSKBWXY&colid=2DDV99QO43MAY
Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Check newegg.com at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%2060000345 9&IsNodeId=1&name=SATA%203.0Gb%2fs . Their prices are good, fast shipping, and perhaps most importantly, many user comments on the drives. And you can search the comments for 'mac' or 'apple' of 'macbook' comments.
I also lean towards drives that offer a 5 year warranty. Ignore those that only have 2 years or less. 3 years is ok, but 5 is of course better. I like, and use a, Western Digital Scorpio Black drive which comes in various sizes witha  5 year warranty.

  • Upgrade internal hard disk on ibook G4

    Hello,
I am interested in upgrading the internal hard disk of my ibook G4 from 40GB to something better. Is there an Apple service centre in bangalore, India which will do the upgrade? what manufacturer/model# of HDD will be suitable for my 2005 ibook G4?
Can I run Aperture/Adobe photoshop on the same as in will the system be suitable for that application? I have 1.5 GB ram and an external display attached to the laptop.
    thanks
    -kamal

The words you quoted are supposed to usually mean they
have "service" or access to someone who would be able
to repair or upgrade a computer within Apple specs; those
are usually authorized to do the work, but not Apple.
Some companies doing that kind of work, who don't have
a staff repair service, may collect those for repair and an
other company may pick them up for off-site service.
In some areas, with more than one company listed in the
page resource I cited, some of them are product specialists
and know the line of portable computer very well, so they
would be able to do most things and check it thoroughly.
But those who do not really work on the computer in their
store or attached service (having none) should be checked
into more carefully to discover what they do/where it's done.
The post linked to in your earlier inquiry, where someone
replied to you there with three links to web pages of info,
is worth considering; in that these kinds of jobs can be
tedious and take a great attention to detail with care to not
damage the fine wires and parts inside these portables.
And a skilled tech, with that kind of information, may be
able to replace an iBook's hard disk drive; but some who
only work on Windows OS & PC hardware may be lacking.
Especially when it comes to moving the contents of the
existing drive (or just migrating existing user accounts, etc)
from the old hard drive into a new system installed on the
    new replacement hard disk drive.
Some areas of the world are harder to find the resource to
get a job done correctly; when an old iBook portable I had
for a time needed a reed-switch and cable replaced to fix
a display defect when the lid was opened/closed, I ended
up sending the iBook from AK to SC. (Across the continent.)
No body did the work in my area, or if they really did, charged
more than twice what I paid including shipping it both ways.
More than 5,000 miles. Since then, sold, the iBook still works.
Unfortunately sometimes good qualified service is where
you find it after some effort of looking; where I live by some
comparison, has almost no people; just great natural beauty.
Hopefully someone or another you contact can refer you to
a reasonably fine shop of careful people who are qualified.
You may have to ask around, and perhaps expect the iBook
to be transported miles to some other facility for that job.
PS: are there any indications of an "apple user group" of
interested owners who have, use and meet to discuss their
shared community of those interests, in your area? If so,
sometimes people who get together like that know more.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Upgrading Root hard disk

I have got Solaris 8 server , which has got 2 X 36 GB hard disk.Mirroring is enabled.
Could u please tell me if I wanted to replace 36 GB with 72 GB hdd , how can I do that.

if disksuite as volume manage, u have no additional I/O or disk not hot-swap, you may have to remove disk from meta fisrt then power down, switch the disk and reboot. then add it. once u make the new disk into the mirror, repeat for the second disk. you can not change each meta devices or filesystem size by this appoach. u can create new meta devices for new space.
if change file system size that unmountale, like /, /usr /var ..., u need a boot souce like software 1 cd, boot cd or network install server ...
if they are root disk, u have to record them (long devices name or alias) as at one time, u have to manually select the boot disk.

  • Upgrading 160GB hard disk to 320GB or 500gb

    hi guys,
    I'm using a macbook pro 17" late 2008 ( model name: MacBookPro3,1) with a stock hard disk of 160GB.
I was just wondering whether I could upgrade to a 320GB or probably a 500GB hd.
But would the motherboard support a bigger hd space?
    Thanks guys.

I installed a Western Digital 320GB 7200RPM in my MacBookPro but it vibrated the laptop too much so i went out and bought Western Digital 500GB 5400RPM and that works smoothly with no problems.

  • Upgrading of Hard Disk

So, when you purchase a S10e with windows XP preinstalled, you technically own a legal copy of winXP for that system right. I have just bought a new 320 gigs hard disk to replace the existing one. now since the S10e doesn't come with any installation disc, how do i transfer my winXP from my old hard disc to this new one ?
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi,
its really simple if you have an external USB 2,5" HDD case... 8 Steps .... and you cloned the drive to a bigger one....
its really quiet simplier than installing new... trust me...
But if you want the harder way to go...
First you must set up the bios to boot on CD
press F2 at startup go with cursor keys to Boot
press Fn and F7 to set numlock on
now you are able to change with - + set the Boot Order to first USB CDROM ...
esc with cursor keys go to exit and save exit Saving Changes...
So you are ready to boot from USB CD/DVD ROM ....
if your windows XP included ServicePack 3 ... a fresh install on your new HDD could be working...
but you cant use the key , because that is an OEM Key for Lenovo XPs..... (thats another story)
why you dont use the Key that comes with your Windows XP CD ... that fits together..
    translated procedure here:
    Complete XP with SP3 Install
    in small form .....
I prefer before do that install
to download all drivers for your machine ...
put the driver on a USB Stick or SD Card ...
Attention all drivers must be extracted , before you can find a setup to install...
    Install:
    1. Chipset Driver
    2. Energymanagement
    3. VGA
    4. Audio
    5. Ethernet
    6. WLAN
    7. CardReader
    8. BluetoothT (if your S10(e) have one)
    Hope that works for you...

    Hello,
The Windows Desktop Perfmon and Diagnostic tools forum is to discuss performance monitor (perfmon), resource monitor (resmon), and task manager, focusing on HOW-TO, Errors/Problems, and usage scenarios.
As the question is off topic here, I am moving it to the
