Presence: Visibility vs Visibility (Screen Only) Help

I need help regarding this function. I have made an application form. I have a section with a few text boxes (not fields) that are for instructional purposes only. When the application is printed these boxes should not print. I have selected the Visibly (Screen Only) for these text objects yet that still print and I cannot find anything in the help features that can tell me why and tell me how to fix it. I have made several changes to this application form from the original and in the original template the Visible (Screen only) worked for these text objects. So I don't know what I have done and how I can fix it. Can someone help me? Thank you!

Attached is the file as requested. I have Acrobat 9 Pro/Life Cycle Design ES. I have also stumbled into a problem that users can not save a copy. So when its submitted its a blank form. How do I give them the right to save? Should be an easier solution but so far I have been unsuccessful to fix it. thank you for your help.

Presence value Visible (Screen Only) not working?

I set the Presence value to Visible (Screen Only) for a group of eight check boxes on my form. When the form is printed on CPUs with Acrobat Professional version, the check boxed do not print, however, when printed on CPUs with Acrobat Standard version, the check boxes print on the form. I guess Im asking if anyone has a solution to stop the boxes from printing.
The form was designed in LiveCycle Designer v.8 and we are on Acrobat version 8 for both Professional and Standard users.

I'm sorry. I just found out that the Standard users are on V7. The form works correclty on Standard V8.

Visible (screen Only) is not working ok

I've been experiencing some problems whenever I try to put an object with the "Visible (Screen Only)" presence property. The issue comes whenever I print the form: it always show all the objects. That happens to me when I use forms imported from a previously scanned document (importing the documents as an image), but not with new ones.
I'm using LiveCycle Es2 and I changed the program properties in order to make the form compatible with 8.1 or later versions.
Does anybody know anything about this?

Hi,
It would be better to post to the main forum and not in the FAQ.
I can't check now, but I suspect that the visible (screen only) property did not exist in Acrobat/Reader 8.1.
Go to the Warnings tab and see if there is a version warning there. If there is you can either up the target version or have script in the object's prePrint and postPrint events.

Hi Javier,
I had a chance to look at this now and I think the issue may be the fact that the form was created by importing an existing Word/PDF document. Depending on how you do this, the form may only be saved as a Static PDF form and certain dynamic functionality (like Visible Screen Only) will not be available.
I don't think you will get the previous advice of prePrint/postPrint script to work either (changing the presence of the objects), as this would require the form to be saved as a Dynamic XML Form in the save as dialog.

I 'm new for designing Livecycle Form. As the title I mentained above, I only know the persence of field object can be configured by the JS code.
for example: this.presence = "visible";
or this.presence = "hidden"; ....
However, I want to configure the field object to visible (Screen only) by code. I had search all related key word, but I cannot find any information about this.
Question:
1. Are there any code in javascript to do that? Or any way to do this by code?

Visible (Screen Only) not working properly

This seems like it should be such and easy thing to figure out, yet I cannot understand why, when I print the form, it still prints. Can someone troubleshoot this one for me please? Here's my form:

The field that is set to Visible (Screen Only) is the dropdown field "Reason". But it still prints.

I was having this same issue, and after reading this post, tried the following...
1) Changing the version of my document to v8.
Result: this didn't work. Objects marked "visible: screen only" still print.
2) Creating a NEW form in v8. Copying and pasting the objects from my previous form in this form.
Result: this works. Objects marked "visible: screen only" still print.
So based on this little experiment, and the previous posts here, I think it is safe to say that the document must be created as v8 right from the start. Simply changing the version of a pre-v8 form will not work.

Printing visible (screen only) forms which have been returned?

Hello, I'm a bit new to this lifecycle designing.
I created a questionnaire on a seperate programme and then used Lifecycle to make it interactive for people to fill out.
Now as I was using a pre-produced questionnaire I selected all the fields as 'visible (screen only)' so that people could print it out without the fields in the way.
The "interactive" ones I have had come back via email and have put them in a dataset. I can see all the data on the screen but can't print their responses out due to the fields not being visible.
Is there a way I can overcome so I can print the forms out with their reponse within?

For future forms or your current ones?
For future ones you can make one field with some kind of password field, that will make the other fields visible for print when you type in your password string the user will NEVER enter (like: "ieughsughesgbes".)
If the password is written correctly it could be overwritten with the old data.
All you need are simple if sentences on a dynamic form to make a field visible.

I've take look to your form and haven't found out how to put relevant "-print" to be working. I've noticed that your form is a static form which could be the reason why it is not working.
To work around this issue, I suggest you to use the prePrint and postPrint events of the objects and make them invisible for when it is printing and the set it back to visible.
topmostSubform.Page1.TP-1::prePrint - (JavaScript, client)
this.presence = "invisible";
topmostSubform.Page1.TP-1::postPrint - (JavaScript, client)
this.presence = "visible";
This should do the trick for a static form.

Presence Visible (Print Only) not working

I have an shaded object that I want to not be visible on screen, but print only. I've done this many times on other forms. The object doesn't respond. When I preview the form, the object still shows. This is a four page form. Page one was copied to make pages two and three. The field binding is global. When I copy the entire page one to another blank form, the presence (print only) works OK. There must be something wrong with my form structure, but I can't see it.
Has anone else had an experience like this?

Thanks for the offer, but I've copied and pasted all the page content and fields over to a new, blank form and everything is working now.

Start up to apple screen only help!

This morning I attempted to install the security update for Tiger (intel) on my Macbook Pro. The first time I tried to install it, I got an error message saying something about it being unable to install and to try again. So I tried again. The second time it also didn't work but instead told me that it was unable to expand the update.
So I decided to go to work and deal with it there. I put my computer to sleep and went in to work.
When I got to work I woke my computer up and started to do things but realized that it was unable to connect to network. I tried to connect using airport and the ethernet, neither worked.
So I decided to restart and try again. It froze trying to shut down so I had to force it to shut down. Then when I tried to turn it back on it didn't get any farther than the apple screen with the indicator wheel spinning underneath it.
That is where is hangs now if I try to start it. It always gets to the apple screen with the indicator underneath.
I called apple but discovered (read the fine print kids) that I only get free phone support for 90 days with my original applecare so they couldn't help me.
I went to the help pages and did everything they suggested.
I ran disk utility repair (twice!) and both times it said no repairs were necessary. I reset the power management unit. I also reset the PRAM and NVRAM (which incidently were replaced about three months ago as the originals failed and were causing kernel panics). My next choice is to do an archive and install as I can't think of anything else to try.
suggestions please? I am a scientist and I desperately need my computer to work!

Another option would be (if you have a USB or Firewire external hard drive) to load OSX here. Then boot off the external drive and you will be able to at least get to all the data on the old system that way and you could copy data back into the new running system. When you are satisfied with all the data you can wipe the original hard drive clean and use carbon copy cloner to copy the data back to your original hard drive.
A better option might be to just go out and spend the money on TechTool Pro and run that. Make sure you get the intel version. This should repair your system to a useable state.

How to hide fields which is visible on screen only

Hi,
One of my template contains some controls that are set as visible on screen only, like the reset button. They are used for blank interactive form only. But when combined with xml data file,I donot want the use will see those controls when they review the output pdf file on the screen. Does anybody know what configuration I should set on/off to make it work. I still needs those controls set as visible on screen only. Thanks

Trouble with presence visible/hidden script

This is my first post on this forum. I have tried to figure this out on my own, but no solution.
I am creating a PDF with LiveCycle Designer ES v 8.2. and trying to a show state dropdown list if US is selected and province dropdown list if Canada is selected using an "if, else if" statement.
My form opens with both dropdown lists hidden and I want to show a picklist only if United States or Canada is chosen.
Here is my script for when the Country is chosen from the dropdown box. Can anyone figure out what is happening? The dropdown list field names are:
     cboCo_Name_Country
     cboCo_Name_State
     cboCo_Name_ProvinceI
PROBLEM: No matter which country I choose, it always go to the final else statement where both are hidden. I know this because in trouble-shooting I made combo boxes initially visible and no matter what country I chose, both fields became hidden.

I found the problem. The rawValues needed to be US and CA, and not "United States" and "Canada". I found it on the binding tab.

First try a restore from backup
If problem still occurs try a restore to factory defaults/new Pod.
If still occurs likely a hardware problem and an appoitment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

This check box is part of an action, where when clicked, it copy's the data from one row and puts it in another. It is also in a row that can be added and removed.
But basically I want the check box to appear on the screen but not print (including when the form is converted to a PDF when its completed)
