Presentation Catalog/Layer Configuration

Can anyone suggest any documentation (books, websites, white papers) on best practices for configuring the Presentation layer and catalog? I am looking for best practices for data grouping, naming conventions, calculated fields, filters, etc in terms of both user friendliness and optimized performance. I am guessing some documentation exists…if not, maybe an opportunity for someone!

I think most of those things (Best practices) you've listed exist only as confidential business practices. I don't want to discourage you, but there's no abundance of OBIEE information on the web - and this place is problably one of the best (having best people like Venkat, Adrian, Ramco, Mma and many others - who share their expertise and knowledge without being compensated).
Hint: check sample OBI EE applications - they have pretty good RPDs there...that'd be a good start - maybe you could even reverse-engineer a best practices document from there :-)

  • Presentation Catalog not Checked Out with Multiuser Development

I have 2 fact tables that belong to one Business Model that are then used to create 2 Presentation Catalogs. I created a project and added the fact tables, which shows the 2 Presentation Catalogs in the right pane to he project , and all looks well. But when I check the project out to my local machine, the Presentation Catalogs are not checked out. I do get the Business Model and Physical Layer, but no Presentation Catalog. Any ideas?
I see in the Oracle docs that compound fact tables are not allowed in projects. I do not believe I have a compound table, but please tell me if I am wrong. In the Business Model and Mapping Layer, each fact table logical source lists only one physical fact table...but in the Presentation Layer, one of the catalogs does use 2 logical fact tables. Is this the problem?
    Thanks!

I did not see such an option, I asked around, appears nobody knows, but I admit there could be a way.
I still suggest opening an MS Connect so somebody from the development team would respond.

  • Empty Presentation Catalog using Oracle BI for Microsoft Office (Excel, PP)

    Hi everyone,
after installed Oracle Business Intelligence for Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint) and configured according to this I only see an empty Presentation Catalog when I log on Excel or PowerPoint.
I've already see this thread and nothing seems to solve the problem.
    Any ideas?

    Hi John,
when I test my connection of Oracle BI for Office it says "Test connection successful", so I suppose there's no problem with connection or port.

  • Empty Presentation Catalog's Model in Answers

    Hi All,
I have just installed Windows Server 2003 and installed OBIEE after.
I can open the paint.rpd file using the Administration tool.
I can see the model in the presentation layer.
However I cannot see the model in the presentation catalog in Answers.
    Your help is much appreciated.
    Regards,
    MA.

    Dear wildmight,
Thank you so much for your answer.
But I just did solve the problem. It turned out that Internet Explorer in Windows Server 2003 has something called enhanced security which caused the problem.
I figured that out after trying Firefox and the problem was gone.
So the answer is to use Firefox or remove the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security from Windows components
    Many Thanks and Regards,
    MA.

    Hi Dee McClanahan,
I suggest you should check whether or not the names are spelled correctly in the topology builder.
If this is not the case, I suggest you can create and publish a new topology.
To remove the published entry run:
    remove-CsConfigurationStoreLocation
In addition, I’m a little confused about what you say “Pool consists of Lync Server and SharePoint Server.”
Do you mean that you installed Lync Server and SharePoint Server on the same box ?
    Best regards,
    Eric

    Hi,
I had the same problem and also tried to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling the BI Office Plug-In. I found the complete uninstallation is a little more than just running it through Windows "Add and remove programs"
    Here is what I found:
    1. Uninstall using "normal" Windows functionality
    2. Search the folder "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
    - there are a lot of folders beginning {.. in that
    - search every folder and find the one for Oracle BI Office by opening every "setup.ini"
    - remember that folder
    - delete that folder
    3. Open windows registry and found the same key remembered earlier
    - delete everything containing that key
    4. Open MS Excel, Manage AddIns and look if the PlugIn is still installed. If yes, delete it
    5. Delete the folders where you've installed Oracle BI Office (both: BIOfficeExcel and BIOfficePowerpoint
    Re-Install Oracle BI Office

  • Presentation Catalog OBIEE

Presentation Catalog appears to be either reset or deleted and client reports were lost. Is there anyway to restore, or retrieve lost reports or Dashboards in this instance. Have already tried the S_NQ_ACCT in Usage Tracking.
    Cory

Was it happened at your end too :)
I dont think we can get that back. You might get after a period of time from usage tracking, not sure exact interval.
Logical queries from usage track might help you some degree.

  • Presentation catalog are listing on subject area even after removal

Presentation catalog are listing on subject area even after removal of catalog on RPD.
I have restarted oc4J server too

Please make sure that you have saved the repository or not.
And then restart both the services i.e Presentation server & OBI Server

  • Presentation Catalog Replication 10.1.3.x

I believe that replicating the Presentation Catalogs is still supported in BIEE 10.1.3.x and is one alternative to having a shared file system for a single catalog.
However, a contact has told me that the replication is problematic. Does anyone know what issues, if any, with replication of the presentation catalog ?
    Thanks

With "x64" I assume you are on some x64 edition of Windows Server.
Please see the Installation Guide. It is a must read.
In the chapter about requirements (AS 10.1.3 for Windows), it says
"The 32-bit version of Oracle Application Server for Windows runs on Intel x86, AMD64, and Intel EM64T processors. For additional information, visit OracleMetaLink at http://metalink.oracle.com"

  • Answer Request and Presentation Catalog

    Hi,
Is it possible to get the list of answer requests associated with a specific presentation catalog. There are lots of request created in the shared folder (based on different presentation catalog) for dashboards and common queries.
If it is possible to get the list of requests associated with a specific presentation catalog, it will be helpful to understand the capability of the data mart (the kind of information that we can get from a presentation catalog).
    Regards
    Vinodh.

    Yes. Using Catalog Manager tool.
    Open Catalog->Tools->Create Catalog Report
Select required columns and save it as .csv file
Pls mark correct or helpful if helps
