Presentation of my website as a portfolio

I have just begun with Dreamweaver and have created my first
website. I don't plan to have this site up on the internet yet but
instead I want to burn it to a CD and show it as a portfolio piece
to go along with my resume. My quesiton is this: Is it possible to
make the entire website executable by one icon, rather than being
able to see all my website files on the CD? I am imagining that
there should be an "export" function of some sort that would
combine my entire website directory (which is not huge) into one
icon.
Basically, I think it just looks messy to present a cd with
my entire website directory showing!
What do you think?

You can get hosting pretty cheap these days...especially if
it's just a
static HTML site.

If you are a print designer, keep in mind that few art
directors will bother
popping in a CD, let alone trying to get it to work.
If you are a web designer, keep in mind that they're going to
want to know
that you actually have your own web site.

Understood. What we're saying is that a website is going to
be a lot
'cleaner' for the people you are targeting to get at than a
CD might be.

I have installed the https certificate and I get this error when browsing to my server using https: I can get to the server in FireFox but not in IE. I tried disabling add-ons, compatibility mode, but it did not help. There is not an option

Do you mean after installing the certificate, you still can’t visit the website?
Please refer to the following blog to install the certificate to Trusted Root Certification Authorities and then check if the issue still exists.

Problem publishing Presenter file on website

Hello,
I have Presenter 9 and have created several modules that I would like to publish on my website for free for people to view. For some reason, when I go to publish my only options are a pdf or zip file. I have uploaded the zip file to my website but all it does is download again once it is clicked. What steps am I missing? How do I embed these presentations onto my website?

You will likely need to un-zip the published presenation and then put all the associated files/folders on your webserver. Then provide the link to the index.htm file to play the presentation.
You can also publish locally without zipping, if that is easier.

Using a Ps PDF Presentation on a Website ?

Hello All-
I've created a Ps .PDF presentation or "slide show" using CS2. I have an icon on my website which you click to open the PDF file. I have problems myself with different browsers opening it, and all in very different formats. There is just no way to explain to a "user" how to open it with all the possible factors that contribute to the problem. Right now I can't open it with my iMac and Firefox (it opens a blank page), yet last time I did it worked fine, yet it opens on the laptop.
Is there a better way to make a slide show available on a website?

Actually, that's not a bit perverse, at all.
Jonathan's suggestion is a standard method of connecting to a server.
(null cable between the computer serial ports)

TeraTerm and Hyperterminal are customarily used on a PC running some dialect of Windows.
The 'tip' command is all that's necessary between Solaris systems.
PS/2 is not a serial connection, but is a keyboard/mouse interface 'invented' by IBM when they offered their XT-class PS/2 line of desktop systems, back in the 1980's.

The smaller DIN ports were more compact than the AT-class keyboard ports and the mouse moved from a serial port to a dedicated mouse port.
Serial communication devices are not keyboards, per se,
and keyboards are not serial communication devices.
You need other hardware in between to translate what the human being sends, and another computer is a common method to accomplish that translation.
Having said all that ...
Since you cannot change the dedicated console hardware,
I suggest you go to the manufacturer of that console equipment
and have them suggest some sort of serial-to-serial interface lash-up.

How to download an Adobe Connect presentation from a website

I'm taking a virtual course and they use Adobe Connect for our virtual classroom. After the class, the Adobe Connect presentation is saved on the course website. How do I download this presentation?

If the Host of the meeting chooses, they can make an FLV version and provide that to you (there is also the option for MP4, but since that is an additional cost to the organization providing the training, they may not opt to to that). Connect doesn't record the meetings in a video format, as you can see by the pods remaining interactive. If this is a need of yours, please reach out to the individual(s) who manage your online training and request that they provide you with such.

I can't afford to pay SSL at GoDaddy at present. My website is now http instead of https. Firefox is saying my website is unsafe. What can I do about it?

My website is easybalconygardening.com. I painstakingly built it until it has 298 pages of gardening, provident living, and simple cooking information. It is wholesome and informative. My SSL with GoDaddy expired earlier this month. I cannot afford to renew it. Whenever I go to my website now, Firefox says that my website is unsafe, and in a box is a message to get the visitor out of there. What can be done?
For a little history: I found myself in a situation that I have to switch my website to wix.com, and have to do it one page at a time. GoDaddy switched my version 6 Website Tonight to version 7. Unfortunately, the two versions are not compatible. I tried to switch to version 7, but because I have 298 pages, it became a really huge problem as my technical skills are insufficient. Meanwhile, because of SSL coding by GoDaddy, my Amazon and eBay ads suddenly disappeared. I have contacted both GoDaddy, Amazon, and eBay tech support. GoDaddy and eBay and Amazon tech supports said that it is GoDaddy's SSL coding. So with SSL, my Amazon and eBay ads don't show. Without SSL, Firefox says my website is unsafe. What can I do to help my situation while I am transferring my pages to wix.com? It will take me several months to transfer as I have 298 pages. I have transferred over 80 pages thus far.
I cannot afford to pay GoDaddy their SSL charges. Right now, I have to pay them $15.98 every month to keep the builder going so that I can transfer my pages to wix.com manually, one page at a time. I also got my domain easybalconygardening.com from GoDaddy, but the domain costs are minimal.

Sorry, you have to handle those issues with GoDaddy, they control your IP address registration and probably need to reset their DNS servers for a non-secure connection = HTTP. There is nothing Mozilla can do to help you.

Firefox presenting random ads, websites, and reset connection messages.

A few days ago, I was presented with a bunch of random ads that would pop up on google and random articles I had been reading. I have also been having trouble with the connection supposedly resetting on multiple occasions, very often.
If someone will tell me how to upload screenshots, I can show pictures of the problems I am having. Thanks!

I think it may be a malware or spyware that's troubling you. Try add-on named Ghostery, it might help.
Anyways, you can use the "Print screen" button on your key board and paste it in Paint or similar program.
1] Bring up the screen that you need screen shot of.
2] Just press "print screen" button.
3] Open "Paint" (if you are using windows, other OS I dont know whether it works!).
4] Select "Selection tool" in paint.
5] Press "Ctrl+V" in paint to paste the screen shot that you need.
6] Save as .jpg or .png file.

Creating link to excel document within PDF portfolio

i created a pdf portfolio and created links to pdf documents within portfolio but am unable to create a link to the excel documents. I can't even create a link to direct them to a specific folder where the item is held. HELP, New to pdf portfolio's!

One option is to create a PDF from the Excel spreadsheet and link to that.
If you want to update the spreadsheet, you could create a Web Content overlay (or HTML article) that links to a Google spreadsheet. I've played around with linking to a Google presentation, and it works fine. You can update the spreadsheet/presentation on the website and the changes automatically appear in the overlay. I've just dabbled at it, so I wouldn't be much help with sizing/formatting issues.

I was unable to work on the South West Airline, error message such as : no outbound airport was found... When I swiched to Internet Explorer, I was able to work on this South West Airline website. Please help. Thanks

With Firefox as browser, when working on the South West Airline website, when I clicked on the airport code or on their calendar, nothing happened such as showing airport location or the calendar to work on. with Internet Explorer, no such problem.

One work around is to disable CSS on southwest.com:
Toolbar -> View -> Page Style -> No Style
The page will convert into a plain linear page that looks like it was from 1994. Scroll down to where it says Round Trip and One Way and select your airport there. Press enter in one the text boxes. After the first page, you should be able to go back to the normal presentation of the website:
Toolbar -> View -> Page Style -> Basic Page Style

Can't view a website using windows 7

This is rather an unusual situation, I am presently using a website where I can view my webcam which is at a different location.
I normally do this using a regular PC Dell Laptop and Internet Explorer. using Windows XP
When I try to do the same thing on my imac using BootCamp and Windows 7 I can not get the website to come up.
Instead I get this error message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage "
I've spent days going through all of the so called solutions that I have found on Google but none of them work.
I guess I could try to install Windows XP onto my iMac but I do like Windows 7 for everything else I do on the Imac.
I am just about ready to resign myself to using the laptop only to view the webcams and forget about the imac.

Try this, may have already.
But anyting that only works with archaic out of date and ancient XP and IE 6/7? is not current and was using non standard html codes.
Try setting IE to view the site in older mode
Also Opera, it can mimic IE and any browser other than the Active-X part anyway, by changing User Agent (very easy in Opera)
They not you need to update and be current with IE9 and Windows 7/8 (and mobile devices)
Oh, and if you have Pro/Ultimate, then you can use XP Mode and run that. Or run XP under Parallels - or run Windows 7 but run XP in a VM under Windows - easy to do and no different probably better in fact, than running VMs under Mac OS.

Transferring an Existing Website from a .Mac Name to a Personal Domain Name

I presently have several websites running using a .Mac Family Pack - on both the primary account and a subaccount. Given the new iLive'08 and the .Mac upgraded capabilities, I'm anxious to migrate these websites to a personal domain name that I own but have not used. My intent would be to run them all on the primary account. I'm familiar with the WSDomains folder found at User>Library>Application Support>iWeb. (In fact, each website is in a sepparate WSDomains folder.)
I realize that it's early, but I'd hoped that Apple might have outlined as step-by-step process for migrating exhisting websites to a personal domain. To date, all I've found is the reference to starting from scratch. Hopefull, my iLive'08 software, when it arrives, will have information for migrating existing websites. Does anyone have a strategy for accomplishing this? And..., since one of the sites is a blog, how do I accomplish this without loosing the postings to the blog?
Any ideas or suggestions would greatly appreciated.

Wait, so this only works for .mac users? When I saw that this new version has this personal domain feature, I assumed this meant that the application could now publish directly to a spot besides .web on the internet.
The process I go through to update my websites is long and tedious, and I'm sure many others do it as well: I make a small update to my site (sometimes as minor as a typo or a picture change); publish all of my websites to folders, even if I was only modifying one of the websites; run it through iweb enhancer to make the html show up; upload my changes via ftp.
Is there anything that this new version has to offer that would help make the process shorter? Because that's really the only reason why I would upgrade.

Problems embedding keynote slideshow on my website

I have uploaded a keynote presentation from my iPad to iWork.com. I would like to embed this presentation on my website but there is no "show embed code" option under the "show public link" option when I am signed into iWork.com. I do not see anyone posting about this so I'm not sure why I don't have this option or how I can get the code to embed my keynote presentaiton as a slideshow. Please help!

I've just check what you explained in your email and you are right :
When you share your document thanks to the option "publish on the web", you first have the possibility to copy an embed code (i pasted it on Textedit and it works perfectly). But once it's done, unfortunately, it seems not possible to retreive the embeded code on the website.
I am sorry not to give you a better answer, but for me either it is not possible to find the embeded code in the iwork.com website
the only one solution i found is to upload again the keynote file.

- ask the Basis team to install a valid SSL certificate
- add the current server certificate to the trusted certificates of your browser
- instead of using HTTPS switch to HTTP

Best Flash website practices

Hi there,
I'm creating a flash website of my portfolio and, even though
I am not very good with AS, and I'm probably over complicating my
life the way I'm doing it, I would also know which is the best/most
usable way of creating a Flash website.
What I mean is, I was taught to do the browsing through
scenes, but I read somewhere that that's not a very good practice.
So I thought of creating each .swf separately and calling it
through a loadMovie, but I got stuck when it goes in the movie, to
call back another .swf (meaning, the different sections of the site
that are browsed through with the menu buttons).
Does anyone know which would be the best way to set up the
flash website?

Well, what Rob said is what I've been doing, but I get
confused. So, I have my main movie with all my loadMovie in
different frames, right? Once one of them plays, how does it go to
another one in the main frame?
I'm not sure I'm making myself clear.
Ok, let's put an example:
My main movie is, let's call it, index.
In it, I have 4 frames: home, web, photography and drawings.
I enter photography, where there's a button to go back to
home or photography or any of the other sections. How do I tell
that button to go to the movie within index and play a specific
frame? Is that possible?
Btw, Dave, what's the difference with MovieClipLoader and
loadMovie? I'm using AS 2.0, cos I am way unfamiliar with AS 3.0.

Can anyone tell me why I am getting this error?

This message indicate you are using https protocol instead of http (that's in the very beginning of the web address). If you are wired directly to the router, there is no need to use https. It's best to be directly wired when making any configuration changes. You can get past that message if you need to use https (if connected remotely or wirelessly) by clicking on buttons to get the certificate and allow it's use. This depends on what browser you are using so there is no single answer on how to do that, but be brave and click on buttons that look like they will allow you to view or accept the certificate. But in general, you need to ignore the warnings from the browser about dire consequences for using that web site. As long as you sure you are connecting to your router, you should be safe. (Don't do this for any web site you don't have complete control over -- heed your browser's warnings in that case, unless you are completely sure it's ok.) If you are using Firefox, I've found that it will only let you connect to exactly one Linksys router (ever) using https protocol. For all subsequent routers, it will tell you that the certificate's serial number (which Linksys lazily sets to "00" ) is a duplicate and blocks your access. Not a problem if you only have one Linksys device, but if you ever need to replace it or add on other Linksys devices, you will have to use a different browser or the http protocol.
