Presentation slower with 2nd display

I've created a presentation with audio. The timing of each slide is fixed so there's no manual advance. When I play it only on my laptop, the timing works out just fine. When I hook up the external display (either a monitor or a projector) and use the presenter mode, the song ends 7-10 seconds before the slides and there is occasionally a stutter in the soundtrack. If I turn off the presenter mode the soundtrack plays fine, but it still ends early.
Does that sound like a memory problem? My iBook has 768MB, the video card is 32MB I think. The minimum specs for iWork '08 is 512MB and 32MB.
Any other ideas?

Did you create the original presentation on the laptop or on your desktop machine?
The duration of all Builds and Transitions is dependent on the processor speed of the computer doing the playback. It sounds to me like your laptop "slows down" when driving the external display. I think that the only way to correct this will be to readjust the Build and/or Transition timings on the laptop while the external display is connected and operating.

  • 20 inch 2.4Ghz iMac with 2nd Display

Is there anyone out there using a 20 or 24 inch 2.4Ghz iMac with a 2nd Display with Aperture?
I'm interested to know if Aperture 2 will perform adequately, or whether the demanding graphics requirements of Aperture will be over-extending the iMac graphics card with a second display.
My dilemma is that my G5 with Radeon 9600 graphics doesn't really cut the mustard, and the display of my 20 inch iMac isn't suitable for critical image editing applications due to the graduation in screen brightness from top to bottom; so until I can justify the move to a Mac Pro, my options are either getting the (increasingly hard to get) x800 XT card for the G5, or (and maybe the better option?) a second display for the iMac.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Forrest Smyth

Thanks Mark - yes I have an iMac as well as a G5 with AGP graphics and the 9600 card, so it's a toss up between buying a second display for the iMac, or a x800 XT card for the G5. My iMac also has 4Gb of ram compared to the G5's 3Gb.
My thinking is that by going the iMac with a second display route, I will have the advantage of two displays for not a lot more than the cost of an x800 XT card (if I can find one), in a system that is [possibly] snappier running Aperture. The fly in the ointment could be the extra overhead of a second display on the iMac - so I'm hoping someone who is running Aperture with dual displays on an iMac might read this and provide some feedback.

  • Sloppy performance with 2nd display

I decided to invest in a mini-display port to VGA cable in order to hook up my Dell 20" monitor to my 21.5" iMac.
I wasn't too happy to discover the drop in performance just from doing so. Now whenever I am using the expose features, the windows move about on screen at a disgustingly jerky rate, it was fine before I hooked up a second monitor. Also, when I drag a window from one display to the other it is generally quite jerky for the first second or two.
Could it be that I'm using an unofficial display cable? :
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002ERZ5YI/ref=pdluc_mri?encoding=UTF8&m=A1T39SA8AUFT6J
I bought this one after reading good reviews on Amazon, although if I'd have realised at the time that an official one was the same price then I would have bought that.
I'm considering buying an official cable and trying that, but I'll be shocked if it improves the performance.
I've used dual monitors on (far cheaper) PC's before with no qualms whatsoever so I don't see why an iMac shouldn't be able to handle the same thing. I might also add that I didn't have to fork out an extra £20 purely for a cable to connect a second monitor! What a joke.

Apple had some issues with their m-DP to VGA adapter last year and had to issue a firmware update to get the adapter to perform better. Perhaps the manufacturer of this adapter has not got it right yet as well. Have you checked the Neet website or support line to see if they may have some sort of update as well?

  • Have iMac mid 2007 using Mavericks . . . will not function with new 2nd display?

Sys Prefs setup with 2nd display using Mavericks . . . the new functions of Mav won't come in with LG display even though same display works with my other Macs. Any like experiences or advise would be more than appreciated?   bumdiago

    Shawn:
One thing that caused the refresh to stop working is when you have error or bad settings in your report. Expand your upper right control panel or EVDRE area and see if everything is good. For instance, an EVDRE usually gives an error message rather than displaying (EVDRE OK) at upper right.
Also, did your input template refresh the data properly every time after you sent your data? If so, you may convert your input template to a report, and see if that will solve your problem.
    Hope my 2 cents helps...

  • Disabling Mission Control on 2nd Display

I am using an iMac with 2nd display configured for video output, so that what the software (ProPresenter, in this instance - could equally apply to Keynote or PowerPoint, for example) is showing on the 2nd display goes to our video switcher and projector screens while our main display shows the software user interface.
The problem is that when I trigger Mission Control or use a hotkey to clear the desktop, it does the same thing to the 2nd display. Is there a way to disable this so that the picture on the 2nd display stays in place (whether natively in Lion or through use of 3rd party tools)? It's extremely unprofessional, and I've had my operators accidentally use Mission Control when the output is live on our switcher - looks really goofy. I suppose I could simply disable Mission Control hot keys, but why waste such a valuable productivity feature?
    Thanks... Mike B.

  • How i can present my keynote in 2nd display?

i wnat to present my keynote in 2nd display. how i can do it? i try to do, but it's always show in 1st display (my macbook). i want it to show on projecter!!!

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the projector your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on the projector you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.

  • Presenter notes w/o 2nd display?

I often teach where I'm working without a projector or 2nd display. I really like having the presenter display with timer and clock with my speaking notes. Is there a way to use the speaker display even if I'm not presenting any display to my audience?

THanks Gary. Yes this would basically just be using it as electronic notes. I cAn break my notes into many smaller chunks & much larger fonts to help keep my place as my vision is changing on me, and I really want the timer & clock right there. I find myself forgetting to check the time when I first start speaking, or if I'm introduced earlier or later than expected I need to calculate time elapsed/left while still speaking & maintaining my train of thought. Hence absolutely needing the timer instead of simple making my notes be the slideshow itself.

  • I can't seem to turn off my 2nd display (with no adapter plugged in)

Been looking on the internets for ages about this and not got anywhere, so did a completely fresh install last night.
The problem is that the DVI (2nd display connection) thinks that I have a VGA display connected (i.e. the 2nd display) when I plug in the DVI-VGA adapter to use with a TV that works fine. The 2nd display resets to align itself to the TV connected.
When I disconnect the adapter the Mac resets it display. Back to having this phantom display connected.
I've plugged in the DVI-VGA adapter as well and then carefully removed that and sameroblem.
Having done a fresh install that would mean it's not a software issue, so it has to be a hardware one? Something with the actual connection? Does anyone know of any potential problems as to why this would happen?
I've tried some compressed air. (I've lost the straw so it was straight from the can, spray paint style)
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

  • How can you run keynote presentations remotely on new MacBookPro with retina display?

I have the new mac book pro with retina display, very nice. I present keynote slide presentations using the Apple remote, the small white one. However, this doesn't work on the new mac book pro. No IR port, I am told.
OK, no IR port, but surely there is another way to run a slide presentation remotely. I mean that is how presentations are conducted. So, who knows of plan B which would allow me to give presentations separated from my computer?
    Thanks

Install Windows either with BootCamp or virtualization software
Otherwise a Mac is not able to run Windows software

  • Imac [plus 2nd display - can you work with one display rotated 90 degrees?

I'm thinking of getting a Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor to use as a 2nd screen from my iMac 20". The Dell screen seems to rotate 90 degrees so you can view it landscape or portrait. If you're working with 2 displays functioning as one giant desktop, can you rotate the 2nd display 90 degrees, and still use the 2 monitors as a giant desktop?
Any advice much appreciated - thank you!

Leopard has a built-in feature for rotating the display. It's in System Preferences Displays pane. You can select to rotate the image 90, 180, or 270 degrees. It even works for my massive 21-inch CRT that I use with my iMac as the extended desktop, although it would be very difficult to physically use that monitor in portrait orientation.
So what you are describing should work.

  • C40: Display local PC content at no connection with 2nd screen

The PC is connected to the C40 (TC7.1) as source for presentation. Is there a way to automatically display content of this PC when far end side transfers no content?
(With other words, screen should display PC content always except far end side transfers content)

    Hello Juergen -
It's not possible that I know of to automatically send the presentation source without some user interaction via the remote or touch panel to send it to the far-site.  You can however, configure the presentation input to automatically display on the screen when it's connected to the codec, then all you have to do is, send it to the far-site.
    See the profile-c60-c40-and-codec-c60-c40-administrator-guide-tc72, pg 120.

  • Connection to HDMI Mini when display is off is slow with ARD 3.x

Anybody notice, well I don't know how you couldn't, that you connect to an HDMI Mini with the display off that the CPU is at 100% and you can't do anything until you turn on the display?  It is easy to reproduce.  I have my Mini hooked to a Yamaha A2000 stereo and when it is off any connection is so slow it is impossible to do anything until the stereo is turned on.  Turn it off and it will go back to 100% cpu usage.  I've seen so many posts about the 100% cpu usage I'm wondering if this is the root cause of issues.
    Dan

I found out if I unplug the HDMI cable then I can remotely connect.  I'm wondering if the stereo I have the mini hooked up to is causing the issue or the mini is the issue.  I'll see what setup options I have on the stereo.

  • Ipad mini with retina display has really slow and laggy streaming but very high download speed

I just got my ipad mini with retina display yesterday. The regular internet works fine as far as I can tell. I tried streaming video from watch espn, netflix, and youtube, and all three apps were so slow I couldn't watch anything. I have a high download speed too, it is 15 Mbps. I tried turning off the QOS engine in my router, and my download speed was up to 30 Mbps, and I still had the same terrible streaming quality. I tried changing the DNS as well, and this did nothing. I tried doing all the restarting and other "quick fixes," and nothing seems to work. Can anybody help me?

I requested your post be moved to the iPad forum. This is the Mac Mini desktop forum
