Presentations using projector... with a twist

Love my Macbook Pro. And I love using Keynote. I try to use Presenter View whenever I can. This is easy enough to set up and the problems I've experienced traveling around were always the other equipment.
Now to my question. I will sometimes go give a lecture and will have ten or more minutes between sessions. Some of my topics are of an uncomfortable sort (domestic violence and arrests) so it isn't the sort of thing that people wait around for to start. So I've opted to play some entertaining videos while on breaks. It gets peoples interest and I keep them there until time to start my class.
Or while giving a presentation I want to play a referenced video that I did not want to embed into the presentation.
I know that I can mirror my displays and have the video display on the projector, but I don't want to do that. Reason is it doesn't look as neat/professional for the audience to see me flail for a few seconds, or to see the 'guts' of my desktop/program/icons/files on the big screen no matter how briefly.
How can I tell my video play, iTunes/Quicktime/iDVD to play on the projector while I am using Presenters View on Keynote without having to go into mirroring mode?
Thanks for your help.

"How can I tell my video play, iTunes/Quicktime/iDVD to play on the projector while I am using Presenters View on Keynote without having to go into mirroring mode?"
Perhaps by using either Automator or AppleScript.
For Automator instructions suggest that you read the Help Menu and/or post in the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard forums for specifics.
For AppleScript, read the Help Menu and/or cross-post in the AppleScript forums.
Good luck!

  • Scaling presentations for projectors with different resolutions.

    Dear All:
While in the process of creating a few presentations it occurred to me that I will be displaying it using different projectors in different venues. My current presentations have slide with a native resolution of 1400x1050 created for a Canon HD projector. I will soon be presenting with a newer Canon 1920x1200 projector but would like to retain the ability to project using lower resolution projectors so I don't have to depend on a new technology that most venues still don't offer.
Question: What should I do to ensure that my presentations are "universal" and can be displayed anywhere ? In case I create a presentation for the highest resolution (1920x1200) will lower resolution displays be able to scale it down and display it ? In this case will the quality be good, acceptable of just plain bad ? Are there any alternatives to this dilemma ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Joseph

Absenting any post-keynote software or hardware resizing, there no way I know to make them universal as such. 1920x1200 will output that image size. 1400x1050 that size. There's a few ways to look at it and go about it. Perhaps read following thread then ask some more if still not clear.

As for hardware resizing in the projector or video hardware with so much gear of different makes out there who can predict how it will end up. Other's here would have some more experience with trying that out though.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • TS1702 how do i use microsoft word on my ipad? i cannot use flash on it as well neither do i use it with projector for presentation.

how can i use microsoft office on my ipad? i can't also use flash to copy and transfer documents into it and neither could i use it with a projector for presentation.

You can't use MS Office on the iPad as Microsoft haven't made app versions of their programs (you can only use apps that are in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad), but there are apps that support word, excel and powerpoint documents. The options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents, Numbers for Excel spreadsheets and Keynote for Powerpoint. And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.
As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect Macbook Pro (2009) for a presentation via projector.

When I connect my Macbook Pro (2009 model) using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to display a presentation via projector, only the top-left portion of what is displayed on my Macbook Pro's screen is displayed on the projector, as though I zoomed in on that portion of my screen. The projector is on and the adapter and the cable that connects the adapter to the projector machine is correctly connected. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

    Hi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:

  • How do I use a projector with my macbook air 11 inch?

I'm a frequent traveler and use my portable projector for webinars and presentations? How do I connect my macbook air 11 inch to my projector with VGA inputs?

This adapter and sufficient length VGA cable is all you need.

  • Is it possible to show a presentation from the original iPad via wireless on an older projector with no HDMI input?

is it possible to show a presentation from the original iPad via wireless on an older projector with no HDMI input? If so, what equipment is needed?

The ipad not support wireless projector yet.
The workaround is you are using computer that connected wirelessly [needs 2 wireless adapter] / via cable to projector and connected also to the wireless router.
You are controlling the computer via wireless connected to the router using remote desktop app like splashtop, teamviewer, logmein, vnc, etc. You must set the remote desktop port and app at the computer too as ipad app support.

The description of the VGA adopter includes:
Use the Apple VGA Adapter to mirror whatever’s on your iPad or iPhone 4S screen — apps, presentations, websites, and more — on your VGA-equipped TV, display, projector, or other compatible display in up to 1080p HD. Video mirroring is supported on iPad 2 or later and iPhone 4S.

  • How to use iBook with projector

Hello. I have a 12" iBook G4. I might be needing to use a projector with it in the near future and I'm not an expert on projector connections and stuff like that. I know my iBook has a video-out and I have the adapter which connects a video cable to a TV. I'm just wondering if projectors have video-in ports like TVs? Or how would I use my iBook with a projector? Please let me know. Thanks!

    Hi Remy,
The Apple iBook G4 specs says:
Video mirroring supports VGA video out to an external display or projector (requires included Apple VGA Video Adapter) and S-video and composite video out to a TV or VCR (requires optional Apple Video Adapter, sold separately).
You can find the necessary cables in the Apple Store under Mac Accessories/Cables.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

    Hi Scott,
You should be able to. If the projector has a speaker with acceptable sound, that's one option, otherwise powered speakers or a surround system.
What connections does the projector have?
Exactly which MBP do you have?

  • Good projector to use wirelessly with an ipad

I want to use my ipad in my college classrooms and I'm looking for something like bluetooth to connect with.  Does anyone know a wireless option other than the mirror and Apple TV.
One of my colleagues has Apple TV in her classroom but she uses it with her mac book.  For those that use Apple TV, how many classrooms will a single unit service before you start having some slowdown?  Can I co-share her signal without a problem to her?

So basically, you asked a question here and instead of anyone answering it, they basically just avoided it. Like, if you had asked how to make Turkey Soup and instead, people gave you a recipe for Leg of Lamb. Awesome.
It's probably long past when you need this info, but what you want to look for are WiFi projectors or "wireless" projectors.
I don't have any association with this company (I'm actually involved in a start-up developing similar tech which is how I came across this thread), but this looks to be the closest to what you are looking for.
    http://www.amazon.com/Arrival-Portable-Wireless-Projector-Android/dp/B00EKLQU36/ ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1400149504&sr=1-2
Unfortunately, the space isn't very developed yet - WiFi and streaming tech paired with portability haven't hit mainstream, so you're probably going to have a tough time doing what you're trying to do for the foreseeable future - hence the Apple TV recommendations above.
    Best of luck.

  • Has anyone used appletv with a scaler and/or a HD projector (1080p)

    any experiences?
There are reports that apple tv can output 720p but also 1080i.
    Confirmations?
    thanks
    Loris

I use an Anthem Statement D2 with a Gennum VXP video processor.
The Apple TV native output resolution is 720P. It will also scale to 480P and 1080i internally.
The output is much better if you leave it at 720P and let an outboard video processor do any additional conversions.
Hi-def trailers downloaded at 720P/24 are excellent when the Apple TV outputs 720P and the Gennum converts to 1080i to a 55" Fujitsu plasma or to 1080P to a Sony VPL-VW100 projector with a 92" screen. Pretty much the same quality as regular hi-def TV.
    Photos are outstanding.
Home videos from a Sony hi-def camcorder (1080i/30) also look fine, although iMovie outputs them at 960 x 540.
Standard-def pictures are OK, but not great.
I've really enjoyed it so far--looking forward to more 720P content...
    C.

  • I presently use an older AirPort Extreme but my reception comes & goes does this occur with the new extreme?

I presently use an older AirPort Extreme but my reception comes & goes. Does this occur with the newer version?

    1)  If the reception comes and goes as a result of wireless interference from other sources in your home and around the home...other wireless networks in the neighborhood....or...nearby cordless phones.....then a new router is likely to experience the same issues. See this Apple support document for symptoms and fixes of wireless interference.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365
    2) If the reception comes and goes as a result of an aging power supply in the older AirPort Exteme or another component that is intermittently acting up, then a new router should take care of that.
What we cannot tell you is whether 1) or 2) applies to your situation.  If possible, it would be good idea to take the older AirPort to an Apple Store or Apple Servicer....if you have one near you....to let them take a look.
