Presentations with Video in Kiosk mode on iPad

Hi
I'm looking for a way to show presentations on the iPad that have a mix of slides and embedded video, and to prevent naive users from accidentally exiting the presentation.
What I have is a Keynote presentation with couple of static introductory slides, then a series of slides with 3-5 minute videos on each, then a series of static slides at the end. I tried Keynote on the iPad but it was unintuitive to navigate even for an experienced iPad user: it is too easy to exit View mode and return to Edit mode. Someone new to the iPad often makes unclear gestures and random taps.
There was no obvious way to control the video playback either, eg when flipping backwards through the slides. I could work around this by adding a "click to play" image as the first few frames of each video...
Nice to have (but not essential) is a way to lock the user into the application, so that if they accidentally or deliberately press the Home button it will stay in the Presentation.
I've hunted for ages on the App Store but not found anything suitable. Your suggestions welcome.
Thanks for your help

Still not clear to me. It is an interesting challenge and I'd like to help figure it out. It'll be a learning for both of us. My questions are...
What is "Kiosk mode" and how is it indicated?
Do you want the video playing (and visible) behind the picture slides?
Will the picture slides be appearing and disappearing individually (i.e. there will not be more than one cast member visible at any one time)?
Are the 35 picture slides of 35 cast members with their names?
Do you have two distinct videos?
I am still of the opinion that the videos will be the only two slides in this presentation (with their respective lengths indicated) and that the pictures of the cast members will be placed on these slides as inserts and they will enter and exit using build-in and build-out parameters which will add up to the total time of the videos.
Like I said, it's a learning experience for both of us. Are you up for it?

  • Putting PDFs into Kiosk mode on iPad

Can you put an iPad into Kiosk mode (disable of screen menu's etc.) while viewing a PDF?
We have a product catalogue that we'd like to display on our iPad at an Exhibition... the iPad stand will disable the home button, but a PDF will still display screen menu's once tapped.
I have seen KioskPro as an App but it does 1000 more things than we actually need - so I wondered whether there was a dead simple solution out there?
I have done a fair bit of browsing on this, but not found a straight answer... yet I'm sure it's done every day!!
    Thanks

    Hi Simbek,
Kiosk Pro and Kiosk Pro Plus will display PDFs.

  • Kiosk Mode - multiple iPads with 1 Apple ID

We need to set up thousands of iPads in kiosk/single app mode.  Can we do this using just ONE Apple ID? Or do we need to create an Apple ID for each iPad?

You only need one Apple ID.
I strongly recommend that you use the Profile Manager system which is one of the services included in OS X Server, to control the configuration of the iPads, so budget for a dedicated OS X Server computer.  This will prevent you from having to plug thousands of iPads into a computer with a white wire every time you want to change the way they are setup.

  • Make a presentation with videos that can be used on a Windows PC.

I need to make a presentation that can be projected from a PC using Windows. I am using Keynote 09, and some of my "slides" are short videos in m4v format. How can I burn the presentation onto a CD so the CD can be used by a Windows PC?

He can't upload new photos for BannerZest as they have to be added to the application and included in the script.
Its possible for him to upload movies and slideshows to a folder on the server so that you can provide a hyperlink to the movie on the website so that it opens and plays in a new browser window.

  • Presentation with Video

    Hi,
I am creating a SWF presentation in InDesign CS5.5... I have placed an f4v video onto a slide in the middle of my presentation. When I export to SWF and open the file in Flash Player, everything works fine until I get to the video. The video plays correctly, however, when I want to advance to the next slide after the video, the video continues to play while the slides change in the background. So  the video never goes away even though I am on the next slide... any suggestions? I would like the video just to appear on the one slide and then disappear when I go to the next slide.
    Thanks!

You might want to repost this question over on the InDesign forums.  In addtion, have you tried either Flash Player 10.3 or 11.4 to see if the behavior changes?

  • Powerpoint Presentation with Video

    Greetings All!
I am importing PPT presentations into Captivate 6.  But some of the PPTs have video embedded in them.  I notice when I convert, the video does not get included and the blank black screen remains and moves onto the next slde.  Is there anyway I can keep those videos?
All help is always, much appreciated.
    c

    Hi there
First, I would strongly recommend that you report the video not surviving the import process to Adobe. That way it's on their radar.
Second, Is the video embedded in the PPT or is it Linked? I guess either way it really doesn't matter unless you might try whichever way is opposite and see if after doing that, the video survives the import. But I'd have to say that I'm not really optimistic it will sail on in.
My guess is that you will find you need to save the Video clip separately and just add it manually to the Captivate project.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Presentation with video, audio and swf´s

    Hi folks,
I would like to build up a web application which should do
    the following:
The first step will be that the user will upload a ppt which
will be converted into seperate SWF´s and the files will be
    written into a XML file.
After that process the user can start recording: It will open
up a web page which will load the above XML file (main frame) and a
SWF file which will record video from the user´s webcam and
audio from the user´s microphone. The user can start recording
and when he would like to move to the next slide, he can press a
button. In this process the time (how long he spoke to the first
slide) should be written into the above XML file.
Does anybody of you have any suggestions for me to do that.
    Many thanks,
    Anton

    Hello, Antonhu
As I far as I can understand, you need two things at least.
    1. Convert PowerPoint to Flash
You may have a look at this PPT2Flash SDK.
    http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash-sdk.html
This is a PowerPoint to Flash pramming library for
integrating to a desktop application or for a server slide
    conversion.
    2. Record Webcam and narration
As GWD said, you need a flash media server .

  • Presenter 10, video and HTML 5

I have a number of Presenter presentations that I want to convert from an older version of Presenter.  I am using Presenter 10 because of its output to html 5.  However I seem to be encountering a recurring problem which I can replicate consistently.
Initially I had issues with re-publishing a Presenter presentation that had been created in an older version of Presenter. One of the problems I faced was the the video content in the Presenters was in flv format. I had to convert these to mp4, which was a little hit and miss as not all mp4 are created equal in the eyes of Presenter 10.  It would be good to hear if anyone has the correct mp4 settings so as they can play reliably when publishing to a Connect server Conent Library using Presenter 10.
The bigger problem I have is with the message of being unable to publish the presentation due (possibly) to lack of disk space or sufficient permissions. I have seen previous posts on this and it seems that the advice given has been to clear the C:/temp files and/or to create a new profile on the computer. I have sufficient disk space and even after cleaning out my temp files I experience the same problem.
I can replicate the problem with a high degree of reliability.  Essentially this message only appears when I insert a video file (mp4 or flv) of certain duration and try to publish to a Connect server in HTML 5 format including video. As soon as I untick the video option in the publish screen I can successfully publish - obviously video is removed.  I compared one video that I had in managed to successfully publish and it seems to me that the error message appears when the video is longish in duration.  The video in the presentation that fails is 2 minutes 54 seconds in duration. The video that successfully published is less than half this in length at 21 seconds.  I am trialing with increasing the duration of a video to see if there is a particular duration in time that then sets off the unable to publish message.
I wonder then if anyone else has experienced the unable to publish message and whether there is a fullproof way of getting around it.  Also has anyone experienced the video publishing to html 5 using Presenter 10 issue and whether the unable to publish message is akin to a generic failure message?  Any suggestions help, would be grateful. I have a number of Presenter presentations to replublish and all have video in them, it would be good to get  "fix".

I have tried the remove and re-add and it makes no difference. I can't now get the Presenter presentation with video in mp4 format to display or play. I am not sure if it is there or not as when viewing on an iPad it says it is buffering but never actually stops buffering. I can see it on my computer fine and it plays fine, but some of the reason for publishing to html 5 is so as it can be seen by people using tablets.  I just can't seem to get it to work no matter what I try.
    So to recap:
    1. using a presentation published using an older version of Presenter that contains flv videos
    2. republishing the presentation using Presenter 10 to a Connect Content Library using HTML 5
    3. have to convert the flv to mp4
    4. on a computer using a variety of browsers the presentation plays fine.
    5. on a tablet (iPad tried at this stage) the slides without video plays fine, the slides with video just continually says buffering
On the second point of Presenter throwing up an error message, it's not so much that it throws up the error message as I can cancel that. It's more to do with the fact that it throws it up each time I try to publish a presentation that includes video that is of a certain duration.  I have followed the whole kill the process as suggested and while this does indeed stop the problem it just comes back when I open PowerPoint again and try to publish.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

  • Possible to view presentations with embedded clips  on the ipad from an external wifi  drive?

    Hello,
first of all I am happy to have joined this community, my name is Chris from Germany.
I am wondering if this setting is possible:
I have bought an external wifi drive (Seagate Satellite Goflex) as well as the iPad4.
I am giving lectures (powerpoint and keynote presentations containing lots of embedded video clips).
Now I would like to show these presentations with my iPad connected to the Wifi drive.
You have to download a special Seagate App on the iPad to be able to see the data on the external wifi drive - I have managed to open the powerpoint files in the App (unfortunately keynote files are not supported by the Seagate App) but when I open them with keynote or goodreader the embedded media will always be removed.
Is this the end of the story or are there any solutions (i.e. with other hardware devices or software)?
Have a nice New Years Eve and thanks in advance,
    Chris

    yes and no ...
    I have figured that out:
First of all: you can`t just view presentations on an external device without importing them into your iPad (at least when you plan to show slides with embedded clips) - goodreader, filebrowser, dropbox ... just show you "static" slides.
When you import a ppt-presentation into keynote all the hyperlinks, embedded clips ... are gone - no chance.
But ... in keynote you are able to "embed" video clips when you drag and drop them directly into the slide alowing "copy video into the document" as well (that is "vital") - the files are getting larger but you don`t have to add a clip when you transfer it to another device (i.e. the iPad) - they are "fixed" in the document..
Now seagate goflex has the problem that you just can`t open/view keynote presentations - but there is a solution:
hacksatellite firmware. When you install that you can go into keynote, activate WebDav, import a keynote file from the external drive, edit it and send it back to the external drive - so: import (can`t live without that), show or edit the presentation, copy it again to the external device and delete the presentation in the iPad (to save storage) is the way you can get the optimum from the iPad at the moment.
Correct me if there is any other more comfortable solution.
    Thanks for your reply Daniel,
    Christian

  • Issues with video playback on iPad 2

I have an iPad 2 (I had this issue with the iPad 1st gen. as well), and I'm having some playback issues on movies and TV shows purchased through iTunes. I've removed the movies/shows and re-synced, I'm using the cable that came with my iPad.
The issue is that when I'm watching a movie/show, the video will freeze, get very pixelated, and then pick back up anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes later in the video. I had this issue with 2 of the first gen iPads (as stated above) and took those back to the store, however my iPad 2 was a prize from a contest and cannot be returned.
I'm sorry if this question has already been answered, but if anyone has any tips or answers about this that could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
         Thank you.

Ok, I created this sample file by tearing some code out of a larger project. Its a little light on comments and the code could be cleaned up a lot but it works fairly well. This example uses stageVideo with a fallback to a regular netstream video object. It is based loosely on several sample stageVideo source that I found online.
When you tap on the play button in the example it first loads in a custom player container, then it converts the entire stage to a bitmap and masks this bitmap using a mask bitmap that is created from the library. This mask creates a hole through the bitmap version of the stage contents so that the stageVideo is visible. (Because stageVideo is always drawn under everything in the displaylist.)
This example also has an iOS styled player UI that I created so that it would look similar to the native video player. It has play, pause, a video scrubber and full screen mode. There is a small sample h.264 video included in the example so you can test it out and see it work. On the iPad make sure that your videos are in a folder or in the root and that the folder or files are added to the included file list for your app. Also make sure that the render mode in your app.xml file is either GPU or Direct. Beyond that if you have problems or questions let me know.

  • How do I get video I shot with my iPhone 4S to my iPad 2?

How do I get video I shot with my iPhone 4S to my iPad 2?

Either import them to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then import them to your iTunes library and sync them to your iPad, or (more conveniently) use an app like PhotoSync or Bump.
iCloud doesn't sync videos at the present time, although it was recently announced that iOS 7 (coming this fall) will include the ability to share videos as well as photos.

It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

If you followed these instructions and you were unable to enter recovery mode, I'm still leaning toward a hardware problem.  Also, since you have IOS-7, read this.  It might help.
