Preserve current file name while renaming

A really useful feature of Bridge is the ability to "preserve current filename in XMP metadata" when doing a Batch Rename - could this be incorporated in LR please, ideally at the import point, and for both DNG and backup (original raw)? Thanks for considering this.
David

Even better, in the RAW section of metadata there is supposed to be the RAW filename right there. Bridge can see it when you work on the files in Bridge (CS2 and CS3). Extensis Portfolio can even extract it. But what I don't see is the RAW filename in the correct field if I imported the files (and subsequently export TIFs or JPEGS out of Lightroom, in the RAW Filename field.
Please make sure this data is in there and working. It's very important to remember what the orignal RAW filename is when working with exported photos.

  • How to retain file name while saving file on archive servers

    Hi Experts,
    I am using function modules:
    ARCHIVOBJECT_CREATE_TABLE and ARCHIV_CONNECTION_INSERT for inserting a file to archive server and for linking it with a document.
    Then I am reading the URL using FM: SCMS_AO_URL_READ. When I get this URL and download that file, the file name will be always defaulted to 'pclHTTP.dll'. I debugged these FMs to a certain extent and found that this name comes from CREP_HTTP-HTTP_SCRPT table.
    Is there any way I can retain the file name while saving it so that when I read the URL it has correct file name in it?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Anand Kolte

    Hi Max,
    In case when downloading one file it is fine. But if I want to download 10 files at once and later if I go to my downloads, every file will be having similar name. Unless we open the file, we cannot know what file it is.

    Thank you,

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to get the current file name in the InfoPath form.

  • PDF files keep coming with old file name not as current file name

    Hi,
    I have a problem when exporting InDesign docs to PDF with some documnets. If I change the name in the export dialog box, then every time I export this doc to PDF in the future this name keep coming, even when I change the name of the document or save it in a new name. This causes confusion, since sometimes the name is completely different from the InDesign file name. What can be done to tell InDesign to save the exported PDF file according to the current file name and don’t remember the old PDF file name?
    I was thinking of a script, is there a ready one to use?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the tips, very useful indeed.
    Though it is bit hard to have everyone in the studio follow them as a routine. I way I used to do this is to go to Save as command, with right mouse I choose copy the highlighted document name, then I choose cancel, then when I choose to export I'll paste the the name which is the current file name, this is good for me, but I wouldn't dream of having this as a routine for everyone in the studio.
    I was thinking it would be easy if I can find a script, since I don't know scripting, to do just that, i.e. have Indesign to copy the current filename of the document (whether by doing the same trick as I am doing or if there is a direct command to do that in the script), then the script will go to the export dialog box, paste that name, then I will go on with the normal export dialog box options.
    This script will be easier to have everybody in the studio to follow.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks

  • Action which saves incremental versions of the current file name.

    I have several folders of PNG files I want to hue to differnt colours and then save a version in each colour.
    I sucessfuly recorded an action that makes the hue adjustments and saves files, the problem I'm having is the action uses the name and location of the file I used when recording the action.
    When it saves each file I'd like it to keep the current file name and add a suffix if needs be. File-1.png, File-2.png etc.
    I'm using CS5.
    Any advice would be brilliant.
    Thanks.

    Use the image processor script and remove the save steps from your action.

    thanks

    Hello,
    Right now we do not have a feature as part of AS2 Plugin where in we can preserve the file name. Please raise an SR, depending on the justification we can give this as a feature.

  • How to put current date in File name while saving PDF file.

    Hi expert,
    A report is scheduled for broadcasting  in PDF format . User wants it should have current date in its file name.
    Now system generated file name is Z_XXX_YYY_0000.pdf , but it should have Z_XXX_YYY_10012012.pdf or in any date format.
    Regards,
    Anand Mehrotra.

    First, how to best change the name of the folder. In Library view, there is a Folders panel within the lest hand side panel. If you select the folder and bring up the context menu, you can select the rename option to change the name/date of the folder. Lightroom will also cause the name to be changed on the HDD so both Lightroom as well as the OS will know about the change. This is the simplest way to handle folder name changes.
    Renaming the photos contained within the folder is a bit trickier. I have tried the Lightroom batch rename function, which should work by the way, I encountered some issues in which Lightroom wanted to substitute a sequence number, starting at 0001 rather than use the starting number I wanted to use. This was in Lightroom 4.x and I ended up having to manually rename files. To rename the files within the folder, select the folder to display the grid view of the images within that folder. Next, select all of the photos you want to rename and then select Library/Rename Photos (must be in Library mode) or just press the F2 key. This will open a Rename Photo dialog. Use the drop down box to select your naming scheme (or custom, which will open the Filename Template Editor where you can build your own template. From there, just click to confirm your choices and you should be able to rename your files.
    As I said above, I did have trouble with this in V4.x so I suggest only selecting one of the photos and testing it out. If it works, you can select the rest and complete your task. If it doesn't, then you can fix that, try again to get it to work or just manually rename your photos which is what I ended up doing.

  • Setting Date value in File Name while scheduling report to File System

    I am trying to set the file name as %SI_Name% Current Date.extension in Destination section while scheduling a crystal report to File system.
    So in Use Specific Name section i have added %SI_NAME% %SI_STARTTIME%.%EXT%.
    Schedule works fine for me and I get the document in the file location with name  'Title 2009-06-26-12-53-17.pdf".
    But I dont want time to be printed in the title, so the title should be "Title 2009-06-26.pdf". How i can achieve this.

    Is there any way to achieve this?

  • Rman backup - how to preserve the file names exactly when backing up?

    Hi,
    I have been using RMAN for backup and I want to change things so that it is
    easier to go back to the old tried-and-true method of recovery by recreating
    a control file manually via the trace file, which lists the files out individually.
    The first change - to change from compression to copy.. is fine.
    But even then, rman names the files some weird name.
    I am not trying this- using the disk format command is supposed to work..
    rman nocatalog << EOF
    connect target;
    allocate channel for maintenance type disk parallelism 1 \
    format '/agile/ora_flash_recovery_area/PECHA/backupset/backup/%U';
    backup as copy database;
    release channel;
    but it still is using wierd (auto-generated) names for the data files as it backs up.
    Has anyone else got this working? Thanks Marvin.

    Ok here is why I would like exact filenames..
    1) to speed the time of recovery. I am much more familiar with traditional recovery methods than RMAN, and while I myself installed and suggested RMAN for backups, our other (11i) database does not use RMAN and so I am more familiar with traditional recovery. So to be able to recover quickly I want to have these files as close as possible to the original names so that I can use my standard script (from a trace file) to recreate the control fiile. If I can get RMAN to spit out the filies with original names but keep RMAN for making the backup, I may ditch the rman bacjup script in chron and write a traditional hot backup script which copies the files the old fashioned way.
    2) to reduce cloning time. The RMAN duplicate command is not as good as I thought. I was actually easier for me to restore RMAN backups first to a box that has all the same paths, and THEN shutdown (cold) these files and copy them cold to another server, and restore from there. Agaiin if I can get the original file names, I could choose to do recovery either way (RMAN or traditional) in a real emergency instead of being forced to use rman.
    3) to be able to switch to a backup file in the FRA without having to rename it. Seems logical if it is already named correctly.
    thanks ! Marvi

  • Automator script search document for file name, and rename file to date

    Hi all,
    I'm having a hard time with Automator... and I can't figure out how it's done!
    Searched the web for it a couple of times, spend hours with Automator already, but I guess my need is random!
    The thing is:
    I got a folder with 1066 files, all the files has random names.....
    I got a document (now it's html, but can convert it to PDF or txt or so ever....) with the coressponding random file names in the html.... some words before that there is the date the photo was taken in this format: 08/25/11
    Now I want somehow make automator search that folder each filename... match it in the document with the filename, and rename the files in the folder to the date the photo's were taken.... and that for all 1066 files.....
    anybody a great idea? Some help? I'm a real newby at Automator scrips!
    thanks

    Have you considered A Better Finder Rename 9?
    A Better Finder Rename 9: The Batch File Renamer for Mac OS X
    Otherwise, what you propose seems to be rather like carving the Pieta using a plastic butter knife. But, if you want, here's one example of a rough algorithm to start ...
    * translate the HTML to ASCII text in this format:  filename (date)
    * read one line at a time from the ASCII file
    * for each line, search the folder for the file
    * rename the file according to the (date)
    BTW, you might avoid a strict renaming according to just the date.
    Best luck with this project.

  • Get the current file name of uploaded file

    I'm looking for a way (an API?) to use files in content areas in
    portlets, dynamic pages and html. ie <img

    IMAGES/app1.gif"> This syntax works until I delete the file
    and/or replace with a new one.... At that time the file name
    becomes app1_0.gif..... Is there a way to find the proper URL
    based on the display name? I've looked at the wwsbr_all_items
    view but can't figure out where to find the path... If this
    view is the right place do you have some sample queries?
    thx

    While some of the info is in that table I can not create a
    complete picture of how to find the file. I need to recreate a
    vaild url based upon the display name of the file.
    wwdoc_document$ contains a column called filename which holds in
    my case 'CONTACTS.GIF' while the file is displayed
    as 'Contacts.gif'.... The name column holds the
    value '755.GIF'... I would really like an API that I can pass
    the value 'Contacts.gif' to and it
    returns 'http://he130r.oracleads.com/pls/portal30/doc/FOLDER/CUST
    OM/IMAGE/Contacts_1.gif' or whatever.... Short of that I need
    to create a procedure that I can call that will build this url
    based on the display name I pass it..... HELP! Any ideas?

  • Script to create directory based on current file name and then save the file in that directory

    Hi all,
    I have a need save all my projects in a directory using the name of the main image I am working on.
    Manually these are the steps I used:
    Save As.
    Copy ( press command-c <== the filename is highlighted by default so all I have to do is )
    New Folder ( press the new folder button. Brings up a dialog box)
    Paste ( press command-v. <== Pastes the file name into the "New Folder" dialog box.)
    Save ( press thre save button. Saves the files into the new folder )
    Save As.
    Change format to JPG
    Save
    Change image quality to 12
    I want to assign these actions to a key
    Recording these steps and playing them back does not give me the results I need, snce the original name is hard-coded in the actionlist that was recorded
    What should I be doing instead ?
    Thanks in advance !

    You don’t mention which format the original file is (and figuring that and its current settings out seems too much of a hassle to me) so this would only save the jpgs into the folder (and create one if it does not exist).
    If you want to give it a try, paste the following text into a new file in ExtendScript Toolkit (part of Photoshop’s installation, Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/ExtendScript Toolkit CS4 or /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities-CS5/ExtendScript Toolkit CS5) and save it as a jsx-file into Photoshop’s Presets/Scripts-folder.
    After restarting Photoshop the Script should be available under File > Scripts and can be assigned a Keyboard Shortcut directly, recorded into an Action, (in CS4 and CS5) be used in a Configurator-Panel or started from ExtendScript Toolkit directly.
    // saves jpg into folder of file’s name next to file;
    // be advised: this  overwrites existing jpgs of the same name without prompting;
    // thanks to xbytor;
    // 2012, use it at your own risk;
    #target photoshop;
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {
    var thedoc = app.activeDocument;
    // getting the name and location;
    var docName = thedoc.name;
    if (docName.indexOf(".") != -1) {var basename = docName.match(/(.*)\.[^\.]+$/)[1]}
    else {var basename = docName};
    // getting the location, if unsaved save to desktop;
    try {var docPath = thedoc.path}
    catch (e) {var docPath = "~/Desktop"};
    // create folder if it does not exist;
    var folderString = docPath+"/"+basename;
    if (Folder(folderString).exists == false) {new Folder(folderString).create()};
    // jpg options;
    var jpegOptions = new JPEGSaveOptions();
    jpegOptions.quality = 12;
    jpegOptions.embedColorProfile = true;
    jpegOptions.matte = MatteType.NONE;
    //save jpg as a copy:
    thedoc.saveAs((new File(folderString+"/"+basename+".jpg")),jpegOptions,true);

  • How to name a pdf file automatically with the current file name

    We constantly pick up old ID files, save as, revise and rename. The problem is that when I pdf ID remenbers the original file name not the new one. Is there a way for it to select the new name without retyping it.

    ID will change the PDF name with the name change of the file until you change the PDF name manually. At that point you're stuck with it.
    To clear it out, export to IDML, open and save with the appropriate name and NEVER change the PDF name again. If you do, don't save the InDesign file afterward.
