Preserve current filename in metadata

A really useful feature of Bridge is the ability to "preserve current filename in XMP metadata" when doing a Batch Rename - could this be incorporated in LR please, ideally at the import point, and for both DNG and backup (original raw)? Thanks for considering this.

    Even better, in the RAW section of metadata there is supposed to be the RAW filename right there. Bridge can see it when you work on the files in Bridge (CS2 and CS3). Extensis Portfolio can even extract it. But what I don't see is the RAW filename in the correct field if I imported the files (and subsequently export TIFs or JPEGS out of Lightroom, in the RAW Filename field.
    Please make sure this data is in there and working. It's very important to remember what the orignal RAW filename is when working with exported photos.

  • Save As option to preserve original filename

    I know that this option exists when batch renaming in Bridge, but I am wondering about the ability to do this from Photoshop.
    It would be nice to be able to preserve the RAW filename to a file when saving from Photoshop.
    We do a lot of photography for artists, for cataloging purposes. Often, we rename photographs with the title of the piece of artwork, since that is the easiest way for artists to refer to the images. However, if for some reason we need to go back to the RAW file to adjust exposure or color, it is difficult to locate it because we can't retrieve the camera assigned filename unless we do numerous search by date modified/folder name/etc. queries. If there was an option in Photoshop's Save As dialogue to preserve original file name, it would be much easier to just look at the photograph's metadata and know which RAW file it came from.

    Correct. When you Batch rename in Bridge, there is an option to
    "Preserve Original Filename," it comes in really handy as far as being
    able to trace images back to the RAW format, when files are named by
    the camera with a number rather than with some sort of descriptive
    element like BlueChair.psd. When clients call to request an image,
    they are much more likely to ask for the "picture of Blue Chair" than
    "_DSC7834."
    I am not really familiar with scripting, but I imagine what you're
    thinking would add a few steps to the saving process, which would be
    difficult (but not impossible) to implement company-wide. I could also
    be way off-mark in that assumption.
    Thanks for the tip, though.

  • Get current filename or url

    Hello Everyone,
    is there a function that retreives your current filename?
    I would like to be able to know the name of the cfm file i'm

  • Purposefully "do not preserve current users ..."

    If I do an Archive and Install and elect to not preserve my current users, will my applications folder be bare of any third-party applications? I have done Archive and Installs (with perserving current users) and all my applications stay in the Applications folder. What happens if I don't preserve current users? Regards, Will

    If you don't preserve settings then EVERYTHING including applications will go to a "Previous Systems" folder. You will then have to drag and drop each item you want to save.

  • Set filename to metadata field

    I'm currently in the process of building a Final Cut Server workflow.
    One part in the workflow is to trancode an asset to MPEG2 for broadcast. We use conventional filenames, so if we trancode the file should get a given filename and title. In FCSRV I created a metadatafield called 'filename'.
    I already succesfully created a subscription which encodes the file to MPEG2 if a metadata field is set on 'true'. But now I want to add to that subscription that the filename and the asset's title are set to the specified metadatafield. Is this possible?

    Another update:
    I just tested it using the direct location to the file:
    Command: /bin/cp
    Parameters: /Volumes/Xsan/Media/test.mov /Users/accountname/Desktop
    And this command actually works.
    So there must be something wrong with the parameters I'm using
    So I tried the following:
    Parameters: [[File Name]] /Users/accountname/Desktop
    this results in a "no such file in directory" notice. On the other hand the [[File Name]] is replaced by the right filename.
    So I thought, I must get the location of the file to get I good copy action.
    I eventually got this working:
    Parameters: "/Volumes/Xsan/Media/[[File Name]]" /Users/accountname/Desktop
    The brackets are mandatory.
    But I think this could be made easier using also fields from Final Cut Server, like:
    "[[Local Directory]]/[[File Name]]" /Users/accountname/Desktop
    The [[local directory]] is the field in FCSrv where the device location is stored, but the parameter is not recognized by FCSRV. Is there another way to get the path where the file is stored?
    Next step I'm investigating now is to change the filename by a custom field in Final Cut Server.
    I'll keep you posted.

  • How to get the current filename and & or path

    How can I get the current path or filename?
    I didn't really find any answers in the net. this.path or app.path were suggested but I couldn't get it to work.
    Thanks in advance for your answer!

    Hi,
    event.target.path.toString();  will give the full path including the filename.
    event.target.documentFileName.toString();  will give the filename only.
    Good luck,

  • Where do I find the original filename in metadata panels?

    I posted this question about retaining the filename but got no answers, so I'm trying again. It used to be in LR prior to Version 2 that you could select "Location" in the Metadata panel and you would see the original camera-generated filename. All my pictures in my LR database have this up until I upgraded to Version 2. Now, it's not there anymore. I want to be able to trace back to the original RAW file if the LR database copy goes corrupt (which has happened three times in 2 years). Any help would be appreciated - I can't locate any forum question/answer that addresses this.

    Method ..
    Now type in the Facebook mobile address http://m.facebook.com. Press Go To.
    You are now asked to select an access point. Select the internet access point you intend to use - if it's your mobile connection, highlight the appropriate network connection, or if you are using Wi-Fi, select the WLAN you wish to access or search for a new access point. Press Select.
    You should now be taken to the Facebook mobile log in page .
    Scroll down to highlight the Email or Phone panel. Type in your email details.
    Scroll down to highlight the Password panel. Type in your Facebook password.
    Scroll down to highlight the Log In button. Press the central navigation button to select
    You will now get the message: 'You are being redirected to another site. Continue?'. Press Yes.
    You will now be taken into your Facebook account home page, with Status updates News feed and other options to keep you busy wherever you are, whenever you want it

  • How to put Module filename and use current filename in code ?

    Hi,
    I was create SequenceCall (in MainSequence), but need to put Module filename and existing file where to find module. I found some old function that are not part of API anymore (TS_SequenceCallModuleSetUseCurrentFile() and TS_SequenceCallModuleSetSequenceName(). Those exists in help file, but not in tsapicvi.c.
    Can you someone help with this (CVI code) ?
    Best regards,
    branar
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    I create seq file in CVI code (based on excell file). So, all sequences and subsequences are generated by CVI code and Ecxell file. Currently, want to add SequenceCall in MainSequence. It work with:
    tsErrChkMsgPopup( TS_EngineGetSeqFileEx (EngineHandle, &errorInfo, SeqTemplate_path, TS_GetSeqFile_DoNotRunLoadCallback, TS_ConflictHandler_Prompt, &SequenceFileHandle));
    error= TS_SeqFileGetSequenceByName (SequenceFileHandle, NULL, "MainSequence", &SequenceHandle);
    tsErrChkMsgPopup( TS_SequenceGetNumSteps(SequenceHandle, &errorInfo, TS_StepGroup_Main, &iNumofSteps));
    tsErrChkMsgPopup( TS_EngineNewStep (EngineHandle, &errorInfo, "", "SequenceCall", &sequenceCallStep));
    tsErrChkMsgPopup( TS_StepSetName ( sequenceCallStep, NULL, szName));
    tsErrChkMsgPopup( TS_SequenceInsertStep ( SequenceHandle, &errorInfo, sequenceCallStep, iNumofSteps, TS_StepGroup_Main ));
    error= TS_StepGetModule ( sequenceCallStep, &errorInfo, &sequenceCallStepModule);
    Now, need to add Module name and sequence name to call. I was tried with some function, but those are not supported (at least in tsapicvi.c)
    error= TS_SequenceCallModuleSetUseCurrentFile ( sequenceCallStepModule, &errorInfo, VTRUE);
    error= TS_SequenceCallModuleSetSequenceName ( sequenceCallStepModule, &errorInfo, SeqTarget_path);
     Also, I not found similar function to use instead. Can you help me with this ?
    Best regards,

  • Extending current ALV grid but preserve current features... How?

    Hi all,
    I need to make a change to RFKKRLWP program to have business partner and customer name shown in the same grid. What's the best way to display the extended internal table in this grid and at the same time preserve all its features. That is, double click on the row to display the dialog box as it's currently doing?
    I don't want to make a big change to it. Currently, I'm having problems with extending the field catalog unless a big change is made.

  • QuickTime save self contained with current filename?

    Is there an AppleScript variable for the current QuickTime filename? I'm working with an script written by someone else and it asks for input for the file name at the end of the script - but I want it to just use the current file name. Here's the line I'm trying to tweak:
    "save self contained document 1 in fileToSaveTo"
    ("fileToSaveTo" is the variable that gets defined via user input prior to this line.)
    I'm thinking it should be something along the lines of:
    "save self contained document 1 in current_filename"
    but I don't know the correct parameter... Thanks for any help!

    This will get you the name of the frontmost QT file

  • How to get the current filename in java

    I want to know that is their any way in java to get the name of the current java file.
    In c it is done as
    printf("%s",__FILE__);
    Thanx in advance.

    Define "the current file" first. The entire concept is pretty ridiculous in applications that don't work with files, and in most others it's irrelevant because there's never more than one relevant file open that's in use in a particular part of the application so there's no possibility of confusion what file is being worked on at any specific moment.

  • How to preserve original filename in Automator 'render pdf as images'?

    Using Automator's 'render pdf as images' will result in output of files in random names
    What are the correct workflow if the desired output files would be the original filename? Ex: manual.pdf ---> manual.jpg, manual.pdf ---> 0001bU.jpg
    PS: I have tried 'Rename Finder Items--->Make sequential' but it still doesnt produce the desired output, it only makes manual.pdf ---> 0001bU-01.jpg

    You convert the CMYK document to RGB using standard color management. The rest is beside the point. We know nothing about your experience in 3D nor your actual artwork, settings, system and so on. Just slapping on a texture on a 3D model doesn't make it look "real" or even photo-realistic. You have to understand lighting, shading and how to prepare textures properly, stuff for which you can find any number of tutorials on the web (though not specifically for PS 3D).

  • Preserving Current Owner file permissions using the copy function

    I've been trying to use ARD 3's Copy function to overwrite a single user's Home folder in a classroom environment made up of a few Macs.
    This is done with the aim of refreshing the Home folder every time a class is concluded.
    However, although the Copy function works and succeeds in overwriting the Home folder, when the client is logged in locally, all the applications suffer from permission issues.
    I've tried both the; Inherit from destination folder and; (ii) Preseve current owner, file permissions in the "Set item ownership to" option of the Copy window but neither appear to work.
    I've also attempted to mirror the target user's account by creating the same account on the admin machine to push the Home folder over but the permissions remain a mess later.
    Is there a way to get around this without having to implement lengthy UNIX commands?
    I know of the existence of remote management apps, e.g. Deep Freeze (http://www.faronics.com/html/DFMac.asp), but under a budget constraint, such options are undesirable at the moment.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Drag the photo from the iPhoto window to the desktop or export as kind = JPEG
    As to too small - what is too small?  The pixel dimensions of the exported JPEG will be identical to the original TIFF - the file size is smaller because JPEGs are compressed - which of course reduces file size - which of course is the reason that JPEG exists

  • Image current filename should appear when renaming with f2

    In the Library mode, I often use the f2 function key to make a slight change to the name of an image, or group of images. Custom Text is the only choice that allows you to make a name change, but instead of inserting the name of the current image, it shows the text entered in the dialog box the last time it was selected forcing me to type in the entire file name instead of the small change I want to make.
    Would it be possible to have the name of the selected image appear in the custom text box?

    That will work for single images, but not for a series of selected images.
