Preserve file system during OS installation

Hello all,
I would like to know why every time I would like to preserve a file system, I would not be able to allocate all space in the system to be full used? Let's say, in a 8GB hard-disk, I want to preserve a slice 4, which is of size 1GB. After I have allocated all other file systems, there was a remaining of about 5GB space. But when I want to allocate this space to slice 7, let's say /export, the system would return an error msg saying not enough space. I could only used about 2GB out of 5GB free space to allocate the last slice. Why this happen?
Thank you all in advanced.

Although I have not tried this, it might work.  Can you add your yum repo in the kickstart %post of your RHEL 6 Template?  If it allows you to do a full yum update on the chrooted file system, it would be followed by a reboot before tools are installed.  The template is probably found in /opt/vmware/etc/build/<RHEL 6 TEMPLATE DIR>/<RHEL 6 FILE>.xsl.

Better you continue with that and plan and document the file system and size strategy.
'SAP Sizing' is very important, utilize it - service.sap.com/sizing
After you understand the guides' advice and explore standard sizing, then share your queries with us.
This concept is very detailed one and really the 'subjective' one - depends case to case - customer to customer - ultimately the SIZING will help you - It can't be explained clearly in a discussion thread 'initially'

  • Securestore files missing during CI installation

    Hi Experts,
We have done with SCS and DbInst installatation of SAP PI7.1. During Primary instance installation, while inputting the parameters it asked for the location of secure store files to be copied. I gave the location
    CIhost\usr\sap\SID\sys\global\security\data and tries with
dbhost\usr\sap\SID\sys\global\secuity\data. But since both of these folders were empty. So I got error message pop up that , the files SecureStore.properties and  Securestore.key not found.Could anyone please help me. It should have been created as part of Database Instance installation.  But if it is not what is the next step?

Whatever mentioned in the thread was already tried during the DI installation. But it did not help us to get it right. We had a slight difference in the error message. It was like this.
The Import packages that failed are :

Loading of 'DOKCLU' import package: ERROR
Loading of 'SAPAPPL0' import package: ERROR

  • Never ending Creating system during the installation

    Hi there
So, we were on Hana sp06, then decided to upgrade existing environment to Sp08 as a blank installation, since this is a sandbox system for internal testing.
I've attached the printscreen with the initial installation window and also the status of the services.
All hana services are up and running, but this Creating System option never go away, even after few hours.. When i try to login into Hana studio with System account then it says that my pass is incorrect, most likely user is not created
What can be wrong with this?

During this time the issue I faced was network related,
I appended the below entries in hosts file:
    IPADDRESS hostname.fqdn
and I have turned off the firewall which was on.
After this just issue hostname -f to get the fqdn and restarted the installation.

  • DBCA does not check right file system during silent install

    Hi folks
I'm busy testing the dbca in 9.0.1.2 under AIX4.3.3 and should
give my customer a recommendation to use or not to use this tool
    for future database installations.
There're some difficulties using this tool when relying comple-
tely on it. The dbca always tests the root filesystem "/" and
not the filesystem(s) the database is about to be installed in.
I could suppress this "warning" by switching off all "harmless"
error messages but then some important messages would also not
    appear.
Any suggestions or solutions? Is there a way to switch off this
error message only (e.g. when raw devices are used)?
    Regards,
    Martin.

Still reposting 'cause this is important to me.
    Thanx in advance.

  • Change ZFS root dataset name for root file system

    Hi all
    A quick one.
I accepted the default ZFS root dataset name for the root file system during Solaris 10 installation.
Can I change it to another name afterward without reinstalling the OS? For example,
    zfs rename rpool/ROOT/s10s_u6wos_07b rpool/ROOT/`hostname`
    zfs rename rpool/ROOT/s10s_u6wos_07b/var rpool/ROOT/`hostname`/var
    Thank you.

Renaming the root pool is not recommended.

  • Btrfs May Be The Default File-System For Fedora 16

Having a somewhat odd interest in different types of filesystems, I'd thought I'd share this snippet I wondered across.
Brought up on the Fedora development list are the plans for Btrfs in Fedora, which provides a target of Fedora 16 when EXT4 will be replaced by Btrfs as the default Linux file-system on new installations.
Fedora was one of the first distributions to deploy support for installing the Linux distribution to a Btrfs root file-system, while the Moblin/MeeGo camp has already turned to it as the default file-system, and now Fedora may finally have everything ready and are comfortable with the state of this Oracle-sponsored file-system.
With the intended Fedora deployment of Btrfs, they will also switch from using LVM as the disk's volume manager to instead relying upon the volume management abilities built into Fedora itself. Fedora / Red Hat developers have previously already worked on taking advantage of other Btrfs features, like snapshots, to provide system roll-back support by creating a copy-on-write snapshot prior to each yum/RPM package transaction.
In order to meet the Fedora 16 Btrfs target, Btrfs support needs to be merged into Fedora's GRUB package (or a separate non-Btrfs /boot file-system must be used), Red Hat's Anaconda must be hooked in to properly utilize Btrfs and its volume management features, and the Fedora LiveCD must be re-worked a bit to handle Btrfs. Additionally, the fsck support for Btrfs must be completed. Oracle's Chris Mason is nearly (circa 90%) complete with this task.
Before Fedora 16 arrives we still have Fedora 15 to worry about, which will continue to offer Btrfs as a file-system option while EXT4 remains the default.
Canonical is also evaluating when to switch to the Btrfs file-system and we may see that move similarly happen for Ubuntu 11.10.
This would seem to imply that fedora is giving btrfs the big thumbs up! They currently release twice a year, and  fedora 15 is (I believe) Due out this May, so it wouldnt be too wrong to surmise that come Christmas btrfs would be the standard install option. However, I have always thought of fedora as being a little bit of a testing bed for red hat enterprise, so reading between the lines, I am thinking they want to release btrfs to the wild, and get the bugs sqwished so it can be incorporated into red hat, which is a good thing all round, for all concerned.
    Quote blatantly ripped from phoronix.
    wikipedia btrfs
    kernel.org btrfs

There are, as I understand it, three big issues keeping Btrfs from hitting its final "stable" release:
    1) No true fsck (as of November, a fix is due "any time now")
    2) The logic used for subvolumes (a sort of "virtual LVM" setup) in Btrfs is wholly different from that used in Ext*, JFS, NTFS, HFS, etc; because of this, there isn't yet a single script/program that will accurately display space consumption.  Instead, the user needs to run a couple different commands and extrapolate.  A little annoying, but it doesn't affect stability.
    3) A bug in the COW aspect of the defrag command which, if run with an incorrect flag, can cause a doubling in the amount of metadata on the filesystem (and thus the amount of space it consumes).  Again, it won't wreck anything, but would make management tedious if one needs to restore a snapshot to get rid of extra cruft.
These are all mentioned in the FAQ's on the Btrfs wiki, though the wiki doesn't give priority to any of them.  I'm guessing that, if Fedora 16 will be using this later in the year, the Oracle folks have told the Red Hat folks that they're planning on plowing through these issues very soon.

  • Save PDF to server file system

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has sample code which saves a form as a PDF to the file system during the completion of a task. My form is an .xdp file. I'm using Form Server 6 integrated with Form Manager, and Workflow Server 6.2. I was told that the Jscript filesystemobject could do this, but it seems like it is only able to save it as a text file to the file system. I'd appreciate any help, thanks!

Do you have Adobe Acrobat? If so then it's really easy. Just share your Acrobat printer, then on submit, have the form print to the Acrobat printer as follows:
Form.PrinterName = "Acrobat" (or whatever your shared Acrobat printer name is)
Form.PrintFormDefault (prints to the default printer, default page size, etc.)

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Can btrfs(2.6.31) file system be used during an install

    Hi,
I would like to use btrfs for my root and home partition during an initial installation, but I notice that the btrfs in kernel 2.6.30 (what's on the CD) is old and has had the file system
format changed as of 2.6.31, so is not backward compatible.
Is there any way to install using the latest btrfs from 2.6.31 (or 2.6.32 if it is out ..)  .... or am I just too beeding edge on this ..
    Cheers,
    Bernie

Cool, I am not the only one as it seems
I might be wrong but doesn't btrfs handle file system upgrades? But even then it doesn't seem to be possible to setup the root filesystem for btrfs currently. Because the setup enviroment lacks the proper tools, like mkfs.brtfs.
Maybe stability is an issue here. Some user might get very angry if their data gets lost After all btrfs is still under development.
