Preserving DateTime Code (PPro CS4)

Premiere Pro CS4
XP Pro SP3
My goal is to preserve the DateTime code from my miniDV tapes when I capture and edit AVI files. It is unclear during the capture and editing process where DateTime code is preserved or lost.
I record the DateTime code on all my miniDV tapes.
When I use Premiere CS4 to capture a tape to an AVI file,
does the AVI file preserves the DateTime code?
I cannot find anywhere in editing a sequence where PPro
shows the DateTime code, but that does not mean the captured
AVI file does not have the DateTime code in the AVI file
even though PPro may not use it for the editing process.
When you export a sequence as an AVI file,
does it have the DateTime code?
If PPro cannot preserve the DateTime code,
are there other applications which do?
Thanks in advance.

DVMP Pro can do all that too. It can also change the Date Modified (or add the date to the the filename) for Raw DV, HDV, MOD and AVCHD file types too.
To answer the questions in the original post, capture using any program *should* create files on the hard drive which have the date and time metadata preserved - capture is similar to a file copy operation so there's no reason why the date and time should be lost at that stage.
Also if the only editing you do is simple cuts, then the DV data is exported as a copy of the original files because there's no need to re-encode them, so that should preserve the date and time too. But if you have any transitions or filters in the editor then editor is effectively generating NEW frames, so these usually do NOT contain date and time metadata for the duration of the transition or filter.
Date and time metadata is stored separately for every frame in the file (not just as a start time) - that's what the camera uses to display the constantly changing date and time and exposure details on its LCD screen.
You can watch the date and time and exposure info change on your PC by playing the file using DVMP.

  • Loading Project problem in Adobe Ppro CS4

Just registered in this forum and I hope you guys can help me out.
I've been editing in PPro CS4 for quite sometime now and my main problem is during the loading of the project.
    here are my specs:
    Processor: i7 @ 2.8ghz
    OS: Win7 Ultimate 32-bit
    RAM: 4GB
    VC: ATI HD4670 1GB/128 bit
    Storage:       C: - 320GB 7200rpm Seagate SATA
                       D: - 1TB  7200rpm Western Digital SATA
since I upgraded drastically from a Quad 2 Core to an i7 I decided to use the HD1080i30 (60i) preset in Pprocs4 since I have a sanyo xacti1010 HD cam. But up to now I am unable to finish my video because after the project loads up many of my clips turn into green screen while others no longer play the actual clip.
    now my questionS are:
    1. Is it because my computer can't handle the specific preset or is my camera not compatible with the preset. If not, which preset should I use?
    2. If it's not because of the preset, then where can I find the source of the problem? Specs? Software? Me? :|
I'm not the techie type and I am just starting to understand the technical aspects of editing. I hope a lot of you can help me out because I'm losing my mind and I really want to start editing again.
    THANKS in advance!

The Xacti uses it's own version of some MPEG4 codec. That works great with applications like Nero or Ulead, typical consumer applications. PR however is more oriented to standard video camera formats, that are shown in the available presets, like AVCHD.
There have been more questions about the Xacti and how to make it work, but I think these are mainly in the Premiere Elements forum. I would look around in the PE forum and do a search. You may come up with relevant asnwers.

  • PPro CS4 - half of audio is missing from exported files

    Hi all.
I'm currently working on a project in PPro CS4, and by that I mean that I've already completed the project. It was exported and uploaded to youtube for my boss, no problems. Then he asked me to combine the two videos, so I copied the second half of the video and pasted it onto the first half's sequence. The settings I used for the two sequences were the same. When I play the video in PPro everything works fine. When I export the video, however, the audio is missing from the second half of the video (the half I copied). The second half audio is on the same track as the first half of the audio, so the audio levels on the exported video should be exactly the same.
I've been browsing the forums and looking at troubleshooting pages but I still haven't found a solution to the problem. The video is intact; only the second half of the audio is missing. I have no idea why it's doing this or how to fix it.
    I'd appreciate any input.
    -RD

Yes, if he is exporting one file of video and audio then either the entire track is exported
or only the work area bar is exported for both video and audio. If he is exporting video and audio separately THEN they might be different lengths.
You might right-click the audio for the second section and select Audio to see if it is muted.
Try exporting the audio alone without video, listen to the audio in Windows Medica player and listen if all or only half of it exported. If all of it exported, then that narrows the problem.
You might try creating a new Sequence and pasting the video and audio into the new Sequence (don't just duplicate the sequence, that may just duplicate the problem). Then export and see if that circumvented the problem.
What format are you exporting to?

  • Encore Timeline Audio Sound Vanishes from Dynamic Link to PPro CS4

    Windows XP Pro SP 3
    CS4 Production Suite Premium
    Premiere Pro V4.2.1
    Encore V4.0.1.048
Problem: Encore Timeline Audio Sound Vanishes from Dynamic Link to PPro CS4
I have several several PPro CS 4 projects each with a couple sequences.
In Encore CS4, I make dynamic links to the sequences using
Adobe Dynamic Link | Import Premiere Pro Sequence ...
In Encore, I create the Timelines for the Sequences from the dynamic links.
In the Encore Timeline for each sequence, each Timeline initially plays the video and audio correctly.
However, should I make any minor edits in Premiere (via edit original in Encore) like changing a title's text and re-rendering the PPro sequence, the Encore Timeline plays the video fine, but there is no audio (the audio track is there, but no audio sound occurs). The Encore dynamic link is untranscoded.
The following do not make the Encore Timeline audio track audible.
    Update markers from source.
Clean database button for PPro and Encore.
Deleting the media Cache and Media Cache Files folders.
    Deleting the Encore Cache folder.
The only way which seems to fix the audio is to delete the Encore Timeline and generate a new Timeline from the dynamic link. Of course, this means relinking the end actions for the buttons and timelines which is a pain and defeats the purpose of using dynamic links.
I have been using dynamic links without audio problems for quite awhile without a problem. Now this problem appears in many projects. Thanks in advance.

Haven't seen a post from the OP since this one.
I cannot directly answer, but here's some info.
From a variety of users comments, and my limited experience with CS4 and significant experience wiht CS5, there were improvements in CS5.
The number one issue when users find no audio in DL situations is not waiting for conforming.  Look at the progress bar and wait till done.
You are more likely to see DL audio problems using files in Premeire that are not as easy for Encore (e.g. mp3).

  • PPro CS4 won't play back

Suddenly video in Premiere Pro CS 4.0.0 for Mac won't play back from source window, program window, or timeline, except for an occasional playback of < 1 second. Scarily this was described by a bunch of users in a thread started two years ago. Only one solution was offered there, which didn't apply to my Mac.
I was involved in another thread on a related subject in this forum once before but that setup seemed connected to the use of a Dazzle Bridge for capturing. There's no such complication now...it's just not playing any video more than a few frames.
An editor who can't playback any video is in trouble, and after paying as much as I did for this program and a Mac Pro, it is disheartening. Any ideas out there?

I appreciate everyone's help but I'm afraid the situation has gone from bad to worse, since Premiere suddenly disappeared.
Yesterday, following one bit of forum advice, I tried using a separate user account labeled Premiere Pro and the program did play the files--though it wouldn't let me save the project file where it resided. Now, however, the program is nowhere to be found. I have the original installation disk but I have heard of problems arising from reinstallations.
To answer some other questions, I did try to download the latest update for PPro CS4. I am using PPro for Mac on a Mac Pro with a 10.5.8 OS. I can't say for certain exactly which version I "have" of PPro CS 4 since the update because the program has disappeared and is not turning up in the Finder anywhere, nor can I recall the exact wording of the error message saying I couldn't save my project as edited under the alternate user. The program and system worked fairly problem free for almost four years before the last few days. I use a variety of source footage, including .avi, .mov, .flv, .mp3, .wav.
One Snow Leopard user has recommended using a Root User account which doesn't seem to apply here. For example, he referred to a "Network Account  User" option that was supposed to appear in Accounts/Login Options but doesn't on my Leopard. Also, as per another user at Trafford College, I revised permissions to select Everyone...however since the program isn't appearing on my computer, there's no telling if that worked.
Community help is greatly appreciated--especially in light of one forum report of someone who was on the phone with Adobe for hours with this kind of problem but without getting it solved.

  • (PPro CS4/Windows) AVCHD to DVCPRO HD Converter

I just recently won a Sony HDR-PJ270, which shoots AVCHD 1080 60i (30 frames per second, 60 fields)/60p (60 progressive frames per minute --- twice the frame rate of NTSC).  The camera also records in MP4 --- but from what I can figure out it only does that if you are in "Dual-Mode", where it records the AVCHD as your "Good" footage, and then the MP4 is recorded for uploading to the internet.
Anyway I was testing some footage in PPro CS4, and the AVCHD was really causing my system to just slow down --- way---way---way down.  I've downloaded the Koyote Free HD Video converter, and I really was not impressed with the conversion quality (of course I'm not too impressed with the video quality when playing right from the camera to my TV via HDMI---but I think that has to do with AVCHD's compression and color space of 4:2:0---on smaller lines, such as pinstriping on a car, I was finding the color moving around just like I used to find with S-VHS and narrow lines) whether it is DVD for clients or I also volunteer at a local cable station and sometimes I do news stories for them and they still broadcast at 480i, so while this camera will not be used for my main camera, I may use it for wide angle shots (i.e. at a concert set it up on wide at the back of the auditorium).  So is there a converter out there that will convert the AVCHD to DVCPRO HD or even DVCPRO50 (still keep the AVCHD files for future use) so that I can edit the video without draining my system's resources?

I did play with the camera and TV settings, but nothing changed.  Even just playing the file back with WMP it has the issue.  As for 4:2:0 I never found it offered good color, even at SD levels---I prefer, and find, the formats that deal with 4:1:1 or 4:2:2 or. 4:4:4 color spaces due to the better color, due to less crosstalk.

  • PPro CS4 not holding "interpreted footage" settings

I have a project underway which had a combination of footage (given to me) in both 1440x1080 and 1920x1080 (all AVI files).
I have used "interpret footage" to correct the ratio on the 1920x1080 footage and looks fine. Done my edit.
I noticed on exporting that the aspect ratio on the interpretted footage exported incorrectly.
Every single time I re-open my project some of the interpretted footage has returned back to original aspect ratio. Sometimes it has not. The inconcsistency alone is annoying as I cannot fathom a logical answer.
Sometimes only some have reverted back to original aspect ratio. The 1440x1080 stuff is fine.
Can anyone explain this as I cannot export or fix it.
The only extra info I can give which MAY be significant is that in Windows Explorer, when a clip is highlighted, it says the ratio is 1440x1080, but when imported into PPro CS4 it says 1920x1080 - which I cannot explain.
All other preferences and settings are holding fine, just the "interpreted" footage.
    Any help appreciated.
    Setup is:

    Windows 7
    32 Bit Operating System
    4GB RAM
    INtel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU  6600@ 2.4Ghz 2.39 Ghz

    Very strange.
Did you install the latest update?

  • PPro CS4 and CS5 installed and Windows 7 default launch from project dbl-click is...CS4?

This is sort of a curious one.  I have to keep CS4 installed to edit Camtasia files as their codec is a 32 bit no-go with 64 bit CS5...
Oddly, when I double-click any PPro project (most were created in CS5), they will launch CS4, not CS5.  When i go into properties and attempt to link a different application as the default for this project type, I browse to PPro CS5's executable and choose it, but end up back in the "Open with" dialog which again, only shows PPro CS4 as an option.
Oddness...  anybody else seeing this?  I just launch CS5 from it's shortcut and it loads whatever I want without an issue, but I still double click without thinking 3-5 times a week and have to back out...It's an annoyance.

    Tim,
Are you comfortable wading around in the Windows registry? If so, you can probably fix this with a quick digit change:
In the Registry Editor (launch regedit from the Run dialog), find the following key: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell\open\command.
Once you select the "command" key, you'll see the program destination string on the right side; likely it's pointing to CS4. Double-click the "(Default)" string and change the value to to following, exactly as pasted here:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe" "%1"
That's with the outside quotes and everything. OK the change, and you may or may not need a system restart, but that should correct the issue. Basically the file extension (in this case, .PRPROJ) is associated with a class (Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project), and that class points to default application. Once that's fixed up, the chain should be put back together.
Also, there is another key in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell\open\command. Changing the above should change this as well, but you may want to check it.

  • PPro CS4.1 often crashes when saving

    Hi there,
I have Premiere Pro CS4.1 running on Win XP (32-bit) SP3.  I find that PPro frequently crashes when saving.  This happens about 1 in every 5 saves (and I save frequently so that translates into a crash about every 30 minutes!)  This is rather tedious.  Is anyone else finding that PPro CS4.1 crashes when saving?  I haven't noticed this problem in previous versions.  Any thoughts as to how to fix the problem?!?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

If you need help quickly...Guideline for posting an effective question
You can start with your disk configuration, other hardware, sequence settings, source material, and other processes running.
I know this may sound like over asking, but it just helps to find what may be wrong.

  • PPro CS4 - Import MPEG4

    Beginner on PPro CS4
When importing MPEG4 to PPro CS4, Source Panel is perfect but resolution gets terrible on the Program Panel ...
Anyone knows what to do ? When opening "New Project" ?
    Gerard from France

    Gerard,
While it could be system related (would need the full system specs there), after you check that you have the latest video drivers, Rt-click on your Program Monitor. Choose Quality = Highest and Magnification = 100%. Does that help the preview playback?
Good luck, and if not, please give full system specs,

  • PPro CS4 update and the Bangladesh connection

I think that I may have come upon a clue as to why this waaaay-premature CS4 release is working so poorly. So, I purchased Audition 3.0 because Soundbooth is so crippled (can't normalize to a specific level, can't hard limit to a specific level, etc.). I saw in the PPro CS4 help that if I did "Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition"... yeah that works. I had audition 2.0, but the prompt in PP CS4 wasn't there, I thought that maybe I needed ver 3.0, so I plunked down another $99.00, downloaded, installed. Nothing. Adobe said that if I downloaded PPro CS4 4.0.1 update, it would work. Opened the app, Help > Updates... The Adobe updater launched and started the process. and every time the updater blew up (all 11 times,) the error message read, "Updater did not Worked". I swear to God. Perhaps had Adobe hired programmers from somewhere other than third-world countries for their much vaunted release of CS4, they a - would have gotten a better product, and b - the error messages, being written by programmers whose first language is English, would be grammatically and contextually correct. Just a thought.

    Standard troubleshooting is:
    - Reset (hold sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears)
    - Restore (connect to iTunes and restore)
If this doesn't correct the issue, check with your carrier about obtaining a new SIM card.
If you still have problems at that point, make an appointment with whoever covers warranty service in Norway.

  • How to Open PPro CS4 project in PPro CS3?

I have to make hundreds of individual avis from a Ppro CS4 project. In CS4 the Media Encoder has to open up for each one and then I must wait til it loads the clip and then I can keep them in queue and do many at once but it takes forever. Is there any way to open this project in CS3 so I can simply export movie files one after the other (without that horrible media encoder)?

Unfortunately, there is almost zero backward compatibility. I did find that Encore CS3 Projects could be Opened, with few issues, in my EncoreDVD 2.0, but that was surprising, and not of help to you.
Now, one can use a bit of a workaround, if such is required. One can edit loosely in CS4 (remember, you will want Handles), or edit very tightly with all Transitions, knowing that those will not be changed in CS3. When done, Export (for SD Projects, either the DV-AVI Type II, or Lagarith would be good), and then Import that into CS3.
Also, an EDL might be useful. There is another option, similar to EDL, that starts with an A, but my mind has gone blank. Others will be quick to offer that, and tell you if it would be useful in your case - sorry.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Error:  148:3 when I try to run PPro CS4

Trying to open PPro CS4.  Won't run & I get "Error: 148:3".  This happened at the same time I had to reauthorize WinXP  (can't figure out why I had to do that).  Yes, it's an older system, but it does exactly what we want.  Upgrading would not be cost effective for what we are now doing.  I need to get this running ASAP.  Or find a quality but inexpensive way to capture analog video to AVI without sync problems.  Thank you all!

    >quality but inexpensive way to capture analog video to AVI without sync problems
What hardware do you use in the digitizing process?
I have NOT used either, but many say to try these for SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/
I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture

  • Ppro CS4 Won't Open

I have Premiere 6.5 in my computer. I had Ppro CS3 on the same computer and it worked fine. Recently my hard drive crashed but I had backed everything up before adding CS3 so I ghosted it all to a new hard drive and added Ppro CS4. But it keeps disappearing fromn my screen either while opening or after importing a video file. What is causing the instability. I never have Premiere 6.5 opened at the same time. The same computer worked with Ppro CS3. Why not Ppro CS4? I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times.

    Here is the link.
The instruction are there also, and I do not know of any shortcut.

  • PPRO CS4 doesn't work?

I got PPro CS4 (french edition) by the adobe store. Download several times. Double click. A blank window opens with the title (Adobe premiere. this software doesn't answer). Sometimes, it carshes. Sometimes, it works. I put some clip on the timeline but I can't export on a tape or through media encoder. On the tape, there is nothing. Encore answers: "can't find the files". But I can see the film on the monitors. After that, PPro CS4 was unable to find the project.
Nothing has been moved and to make sure a new download and a new clean installation have been made.
make a phone call to adobe and I'm waiting for ...
I ask also to downgrade to PPro I bought to the adobe store in 2003. But this is no more available!
    I really appreciate any help

    Hello,
    Thanks Robert for the link.
There are one or two problems:
    1)PPros CS4 crashed when launched
2)A problem with media encoder (maybe 2 comes from 1)
The second problem looks (at least partially or it's a variant) like the problem described by Ruby45 in your forum and solved(?) by Johan973. (error messages are similar).
    Some comments:
    1) I have also photoshopCS (zero) and adobe web premium cs3 suite. Recently due to conflict between extension manager cs3 and cs4 i got a hard time to move the pvii extension from dw8 to dwcs3.
    2) On the folder .../AppData/Roaming/Adobe/ i have some folders called PremierePro (includig the folder 4.0) and Premiere Pro (including 4.0, 1.5 and 1.0) and i never did a change.
    3)I didn't find in the folder programme/adobe/..../premiere any PProCS4.exe
At this time I csan't afford any issue with dreamwaver/fireworks cs3 or any interruption of service.
    Question:
    1) any conflict known between CS3 and CS4? solution?
2)how to perform a very clean installation of PPro CS4 without any interference with the web suite cs33? (I already download and install ppro cs4 several times).
