export your self contained movie at your current, DVCProHD settings.
Take that clip to your friend's. Import it into his FCP.
Create a 10-bit Uncompressed sequence, using the easy setup. Put your HD clip on the timeline. Render. Print.

  • HELP ! NO DVCPRO HD 720p capture preset

I'm about to start a job shot on DVCPRO HD 720p 25 PAL on Friday, but through research I thought I could capture at this rate, I've just found out that you can only do it of P2......
    Any ideas?

    Help...........

You need FCP 5.1.2 to work with 720p25 footage. And make sure that you have SHOW ALL selected in the Easy Setup window.

  • 64 Min DVCPRO HD 720p 60p

Typically I dont double post, but this is also in the Authoring section, I dont know where the problems lies, but I have a feeling it's in a little of both
I am in a extremely messy situation. I cant what I am doing wrong. I shot a Ballet DVCPRO HD 720p 60p Direct capture into Final Cut. High Definition has such great quality in the RAW, and when I compress and Author the DVD, it *****, no detail, and I loose 1/2 the lighting. I am new to the post production side, and beg for your help. If anyone who works with DVCPro HD and 1 hour to DVD I would greatly appreciate it. Also am I suppose to be using a special DVD?

I actually check my FinalCut to Compressor Export against the frame of the editing timeline image, and they are almost identical. NOW, When I pop in the DVD, Differnt stary. Night an day on softness. Color and brigthenss is actaully brighter, and blurrier. Brigtheness is not night and day, I wish there was a way to take a snap shot of my DVD, but it says I can when DVD player is open. So to me, it seems as if DVDSP is doing something to it.

  • Capturing dvcpro hd 720p 25

I've tried capturing through my black magic extreme card via SDI but the results look awful, then I tried prores with much better results but the frame size is 1280X720 not 960X720 which is what I need. Any ideas why the quality is so low with the dvcpro hd 720p 25 codec and any other codecs I can use which will give me the same frame size?
    Much Thanks, Matt

Why not simply import the files via firewire in the original codec or, if the material is stored on a P2 card, simply drag the files onto the hard drive and use log and transfer?
The DVCProHD 720 960x720 dimension is how the codec stores the material. When it is played, it is translated into a full frame size of 1280x720. If you move the DVCPro material to a ProRes codec, the 1280x720 preset is appropriate.
Or did I not understand your problem/question?
How is the material stored? Tape, P2 cards?
What are you using as the capture device? VTR, camera, P2 card reader?
    Version of FCP?
    Version of OSX
    Version of QT?
Computer model? (there is no such thing as a G5 Mac Pro)

  • DVCPRO HD 720P Capture File  Pixel Dimensions, etc.

I'm crossing over from Final Cut 7 where I've been using AJA LHi card to capture DVCPRO HD 720P 59.94 tape from the Panasonic 1400 deck successfully for years. In Premiere I've adjusted all the capture settings and sequence settings to conform to DVCPRO HD 720P 59.94:
-Pixel format: MC DVCPRO HD 720P 60
    -Capture format: AJA Mov Capture
    -Video format:  720P 59.94
    BUT....
-My Premiere capture tests look not only slightly horizontally stretched, but  cropped about 30 pixels only on the right of the full raster frame in both Premiere and in playback in Final Cut 7.  This is true for the clip as it plays on the timeline as well.
-When I launch the clip in QT player it has the same cropping problems but is playing as 960x720, not defaulting to 1280x720 as normal 16:9. Final Cut captured clips play in QT as default 1280x720. So the file as captured in Premiere is missing a tag that tells QT how to resize it. I'm in QT 10.4 by the way.
-I've imported captures from Final Cut into Premiere and they look fine.
-The Premiere captured clip in the bin shows as 960x720 which is correct for DVCPHD, but in parenthesis shows (1.3333) which I've never seen anywhere before.
-The folks at AJA think this is a Premiere issue not a capture card issue, and I tend to agree.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

I'm wondering if what the original camera may have embedded into the file is jumbled in with the 1400 and "crashing into" what both FCP and PrPro expect to 'see'. From the above grab, PrPro is thinking that this is just a P2 format Panny camera, shooting "standard" P2 stuff. Which this clearly is not.
At this point ... wondering is say Kevin-Monahan could jump in here & provide some assistance? At least, he'd know who to talk with about this. So might shooternz ... he's been around this sort of thing for many years.

  • DVCPro HD 720p codec ?

Sorry for the silly question. But I'm wondering is someone can tell me where I can the DVCPro HD 720p codec for Quicktime (MAC). I have some HD quicktimes that are not playing video (just white) and they were exported using this codec. I've searched for it, even on some free codec sights, but haven't had any luck.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Photoshop titles in DVCPRO HD 720p timeline

I am making titles for a short video shot on DVCPRO HD 720p. The timeline settings are the same as the footage.
The titles were made in photoshop, 1280x720, pixel aspect square. When the .png's go into the timeline, there are steps on the edges. Not as bad as DV steps, but annoying all the same. Why?
    Thanks

    hmmm
I think we are missing some information. Is it a PAL timeline? Do you have a PAL monitor? How is the monitor connected? Are you using an iMac or a Mac mini? Did you have waffles for breakfast?

  • Mixing Hi-8, VHS into DVCPRO HD 720p/24 Timeline?

I've got a DVCPRO HD 720p/24 timeline. I need to bring in material from other old school formats (Hi-8, VHS, mini-DV) to be added in. How should I go about this? I'm thinking copying all to DVCAM, then digitizing in. From there, do I need to Upconvert? Or can I just drop it all in the Timeline and work? How does one deal with the 29.97 / 23.97, interlace/progressive and 4:3 / 16:9 differences?
Any advice, or pointers to discussions, tutorials, links, etc would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure this is a really common headache-inducing question, but I can't seem to locate an answer.
    Thanks!

First, in the CANVAS, turn on IMAGE+WIREFRAME in the box drop down menu. Then, Layer your footage. Put the main shot on V1. Now put it again on V2. Double click on the image on V1 and crop one side until it starts to cut into the video. Click on the clip on V2, go to the canvas and drag it until it is visible. Throw filters on it to set it apart. Gaussian blur to REALLY blur it out. Perhaps the 3-way color corrector and turn the saturation all the way down to get B&W, or just partway down. Anything to make it look interesting. Put the same clip on V3, double click on V1 again and crop the other side. Drag the filters from the clip on V2 to the clip on V3 (you might need to crop the clip on V2 to clear the area on that other side) by double clicking on V2 to get it into the viewer, then click on the filters tab and drag and drop.
Upconverted stuff look good? As good as it can. I worked on a History Channel show that was easily 50% DV, VHS and betaSP....while all of our A ROLL and Interviews were DVCPRO HD. The archival stuff was not. It looked decent. It will NEVER look like real HD...give up that ghost right now. You are taking a smaller image and blowing it up 200-300%. And if it is DV...it is already highly compressed. Compressor will do a better job of smoothing out the edges and ridding of the interlacing than FCP can. A terranex box will do even better, as will a Kona 3.

  • DVCPRO HD 720P: pixel aspect ratios with still images from Final Cut

I am currently trying to get still images from a trailer I am working on with Final cut pro. The footage is DVCPRO HD 720P 24pn and the interlacing and pixel aspect ratios have been giving me a lot of trouble in photoshop. I am able to convert the PAR but it is for preview purposes only...? I need the file to be saved with the converted PAR. How do you do that???
Also, the de-interlacing filter on photoshop doesn't seem to help the quality of the photo.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I have searched and searched and only found somewhat related questions, so maybe I am the only one trying to do this...

Why are you doing interlace if you have 720p?

  • Can v5.1.4 import DVCPRO HD 720P 24PN?

    Hi all,
Can FCP 5.1.4 import DVCPRO HD 720P 24PN from a Focus Enhancements Firestore FS-100? Or do I need v6?
    Thanks for your input.

    Yes it can.
How it is important depends on what firmware the FS-100 has and how you have acquired the footage.
If you have 720/24pN, which is only the equivalent because the HVX200 can only stream non native out firewire, then organize the clips first in the FS100 if you shot P2.
If you shot QuickTime 24pn equivalent, then just mount the drive the HD mode
What settings did you use in the cam and on the FS100?

  • Transcoding DVCPRO HD 720p/24 to DV NTSC 29.9 FPS

    Hello,
I have a project that was shot in DVCPRO HD 720p/24 fps and I need to transcode it to DV NTSC 29.9 FPS.  I've tried it in FCP and it looks like crap.  The internet gods have told me that using After Effects is the best way to do this, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would really save me!
I have CS3, but the way.
    Thanks!

  • Workflow Questions HDV to DVCPro HD to SD DVD?

As the subject says, I have several plays I shot in with 720p and 1080i for the second camera. So I was thinking of converting the HDV to DVCPro HD in their respective size formats to get the i-frame benefits for transitions, color correction, etc. Then ultimately the final delivery will be SD DVD disk. So my question is, to go from HDV to DVCPro HD, compressor has some presets to convert HDV to DVCPro HD and it then makes it non square so the footage viewed in QT looks scrunched but is fine in Final Cut as it compensates. So the deal is since the final delivery is SD DVD is it fine to let compressor move it to non-square or should I try to keep the conversion square? Will it make a difference? I just did a test taking the 720p HDV to 720p DVCPro HD, non-square, then dragged that clip to compressor and output as 16:9 SD mpeg2 and it looks great...just lower resolution. So any input is appreciated on my suggested workflow? Thanks!

The way it looks in your sequence is the way it will come out in the SD DVD... so if it's OK there, it's good to go all the way to a SD MPEG file and burn to a DVD.

If you want to play your dvd on a big HD tv you need a dvd-player with upscaler otherwise it will look awful.
Use DL or export your timeline directly to mpeg2-dvd.
