Preset Issues with 'Edit in Photoshop' image

Hi guys, I'm running LR3 and CS5 on a MBP Lion, and I'm working directly with RAW files. I have adjusted the images in LR and used 'edit in photoshop' to correct blemishes on some photos. I want to apply some presets at the end to render a couple of different looks (B/W and Vintage) to the final edited image. However, I find that after the file comes back from PS, it looks good, but the photo gets 'normalized' and the develop module tools get reset to zero. Hence my presets totally blow the 'edited in photoshop' image while it works just fine on the original raw.
I have also tried to work on the original image prior to any LR adjustments. Same thing, after coming back from PS, both stacked files look similar, but at the time of running the preset, the 'edited in photoshop' file gets blown out.
I do not have any auto adjust settings turned on. No presets running on import/export. What am I doing wrong?
I really appreciate any help!
-Liz

when you edit a RAW file in PS and save it you will have a demosaiced file (TIF, PSD or JPG).
they behave different then RAW files. so sliders will probably have a different effect on a JPG file then it will have on a RAW file.
it will not be possible i think, to get the EXACT same look when you apply a preset afterwards.
for example the highlights will not have so much headroom in a TIF or JPG ... compared to the original RAW.
so i think the best is to apply the presets first, render the files with the LR settings and open in PS as smart object.

  • Captivate 5 - issue with editing imported PowerPoints that have been resized

I'm having an issue with editing PowerPoint files that have been imported into Captivate 5 when they have been resized within the Captivate project after the initial import.
    1. I import a PowerPoint presentation into 800x600 dimension.
    2. I resize the project to 900x600 by not locking the aspect ratio and selecting to position to the top right so there is a 100 pixel strip to the left of the slide that we use for navigation buttons and other info.
    3. If I need to make a change to a PowerPoint, I select Edit > Edit with Microsoft PowerPoint > Edit Slide (or Edit Presentation).
    4. The slide opens in PowerPoint and I make the changes and click Save.
    5. When the slide is imported back into Captivate, it is stretched and resized to not fit either 800x600 or 900x600, but something in between. This did not happen in Captivate 4 - the slide would retain the 800x600 dimension slid over to the right with no issues.
Are there any settings that can be done to ensure the edited slides will import back into the project with the correctly sized dimensions for the current project?

    Hi there
I agree that it would be nice to see a notification. You know, Captivate offers a special area for notifications that appear when you open it. I'm stymied as to why Adobe doesn't use this area for making such announcements.

  • I'm having some issues with Edit in Audition

This past week my friends and I shot my friend's final film project. We recorded external audio at 192000 Hz, 12288kbps, 32-bit float. I synced up all the audio and sent the project to my friend. When he used Edit in Audition so that he can mix and clean up the audio, it had been exported at 8000 Hz, 512kbp, 32-bit float and everything sounds muffled. I'm more familier with Premiere then he is, so I tried, and I had the same results.
I know Audition can import and export that kind of audio so I'm assume it's a problem on the Premiere end. Is there any settings that I'm missing or is it impossible for Premiere to extract at that quality? Even if it's the latter, is there a way it can be set to extract at higher than 8000 Hz at 512kbps?

From what I can tell, it's a problem with Premiere exporting, not Audition importing though. I have the 192000 Hz, 32 bit files working just fine in the Premiere timeline so it doesn't appear to have to much of an issue with editing it, it just exports it at a much lower quality when sending it to Audition
It seems like the only way I can keep that audio quality is to sync sound in Audition and that's not ideal for me.

  • Problem with "Edit in Photoshop" and Lightroom 2.1 failing to import new file

I am a new user to Lightroom, so I won't be surprised if the problem is at the dull end of the keyboard...
I am working with Lightroom 2.1 (still in my 30-day free trial), Photoshop CS3 with ACR 4.6, on Windows XP (fully updated). My image files are mostly .cr2 files (canon raw).
When I "edit with photoshop" in Lightroom, it fires up Photoshop and brings the file up for edit as expected. Photoshop shows the file name as something like _MG_2326.CR2, as (I presume) expected. When I'm done editing in Photoshop, and I save the file, Lightroom brings up a message "The file could not be imported because it could not be read." and "It may be an incompatible format." on a second line.
If I synchronize the folder in Lightroom it picks up the save file without issue (though its not automatically stacked with the original).
I have tried messing around with the different options in the preferences "external editing" tab -- file format, color space and bit depth (I can't imagine resolution would matter). No joy there.
I have also tried setting photoshop up as the additional external editor and if I do that it works correctly. However, in this case, it makes a copy of the file before opening photoshop which slows things down a little.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen before? Any solutions or work-arounds?
    Thanks,
    Doug

I'm back trying to sort this problem out (got distracted for a couple of days by trying to get my monitor calibrated).
Rearranging the folder structure didn't help. But I now have a better organized catalog, so that's ok :)
What I did find is that if I import files into lightroom using the "file/import photos from device", then I can edit them normally afterwards (that is, when I save the file in photoshop cs3, the new file gets picked up correctly by lightroom and gets correctly stacked with the original). This is true even if the new files get added into the same directory structure that I'm having troubles with.
So it looks like the directory structure is a red herring. It looks like the problem is in the catalog, with the way that lightroom originally imported my files. I created my original catalog by allowing lightroom to read my elements 6 catalog.
It seems that I have this edit problem with all catalog entries that were imported from elements 6, but I don't have any problem with catalog entries that lightroom brings in directly (either through "import photos from device" or by adding a new folder to the lightroom catalog).
So right now it looks like there is a problem with the elements catalog conversion.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen? Any suggestions for getting around it?

  • OS X LION Issues with Full-Screen; iPhoto, Image Capture & Mail

    Hello,
I'm experiencing un-Apple-like issues (bugs) with Lion in Full-Screen mode.
For example - iPhoto doesn't seem to like Full-Screen mode. If iPhoto is open and I connect a camera, for which I prefer Image Capture to retrieve my pics... Image Capture opens 'behind' the full-screen iPhoto, but I can't get to it. Image Capture shows as open on the menu bar in iPhoto's full-screen mode. If I go to the desktop (where it should be opening) Image Capture isn't 'on top' and clicking it takes me back to iPhoto full-screen
Similarly, if I get mail and return to the desktop (the only way to see the dock) and I click on the 'Mail' app icon - I am catapulted into Image Capture... or iPhoto. Returning to the Desktop to click the Mail icon from the dock... takes me to Image Capture... or iPhoto. The 3rd try takes me to the Mail.app which is usually always open and in full-screen mode.
While I'm complaining about bugs, I'd like to mention that I am fully dismayed by the loss of control in full-screen mode when using apps such as Mail or iPhoto. The Mail app opens an email to edit (such as a reply) but you can't access any other mail docs to 'cut and paste' info from. I can only click SEND or CANCEL.
What if I don't want to CANCEL? I just want to go to another email and cut a piece to paste.. I have to exit full-screen mode which allows me to open two email documents at once, then cut and paste. Essentially Mail in Full-Screen is only a reader... not a work area. I can only access the document I have open, since it greys out the Message Viewer. You can't click on the message viewer nor access any of the features of Mail.app. You can only write your email and either Cancel or Send. Where is the 'hold on a second while I go cut and paste'? I don't want to cancel.
Can't seem to use Safari since I'm constantly three-finger swiping it away. My cursor hovers over a text field and suddenly it's zooming in and locks text input. I have to iPhone-like swipe to expand to exit this inadvertent partial (very slight) zoom. Sometimes the zoom is so partial that I can't figure out what's going on until I just exit full-screen mode, close the window and start over.
Seems like I'm starting over and over and over... just to do simple things. Inadvertent zooming, inadvertent 3-finger returning to Desktop, inadvertent changing apps... ugh.
I'm willing to let go of the old and embrace the new future but so far it's been pretty uncomfortable for me to constantly monitor my overly sensitive trackpad gesturing combined with constant bugs and glitches. I'll save complaining about iPhoto's over-simplification (apparently for dummies) like the new Edit menu, Export menu, etc.. since it's more iLife than Lion related. Rate Lion: 2 out of 5 stars for ease of use & features complicated by unrefined software issues.

I've tried follwoing these instructions but I have an issue with

  • Issues to edit in Photoshop from Lightroom , why?

HI everyone, In order to edit some images on my new website http://www.monportraitphoto.fr I was getting into my archives that are all in a big Adobe Lightroom catalogue. After choosing the good pictures in my catalogue I tried to make the classical shortcut "edit in Photoshop cc 2014 (yes I've juste made the update and uninstalled the 2013 cc version)"
here is the issue : when I edit a psd file it works but when I edit a raw the screen jumps to the photoshop window but no photo is opening in it. Does anybody know a good way to fix it?
    mac os maverick
lightroom 5.5 and photoshop CC 2014

Same issue here. I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1
    Lightroom is version 5.7
    Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
I can't edit in Photoshop from LR.
I also can't automate>Photomerge. After i elect the images to be merged and hit "okay" to start the process, nothing happens. At all.
Makes me think Photoshop, not Lightroom, is all wacky.
I tried dumping PS preferences, but that didn't do anything.

  • Problem with "Edit in Photoshop"

    Hi,
When I "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom, the photo loads correctly into Photoshop, and I can save my changes, but when I return to Lightroom, my changes are not automatically imported.  I have to click "Import..." to find the changes, and manully import them.
How to I enable automatic imports of the changed made in Photoshop?
Somestimes, I get a grey thumbnail after returning from Photoshop.  Clicking on the thumbnail gives the message: "Filename-Edit.tif could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it?  Previous location:   Correct path to file, except starts with "C:/", and should start with "E:/".  If I locate the correct file, it is imported, but it has an exclamation point on the thumbnail.  Clicking on the exclamation point produces the message: "The medata data for this photo has be changed by both Lighroom and another application.  Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settins with those form the catalog?"
    I'm using Lightroom 5.0, Camera Raw 8.1, Photoshop CS6 (Versionh 13.0.1) under 64-bit Windows 7
    Thanks
    Brent

Thank you for this information regarding the dialog box!
My problem is with LR 2.3 and CS4 Photoshop.  When I select "edit in Photoshop CS4", Photoshop starts, but the file doesn't open.
If I select "open as smart Object" in Photoshop, the file opens.
Previously, with CS3, I had no problems opening raw files for edit!

  • Performance issue with editing classes in 2011

Maybe this is just an install issue, but....
In LV 2011, if I attempt to edit the data of an established class (i.e. it has accessors, etc) then I get the Windows 7 whirling cursor indicating that the class is updating; sometimes this takes several minutes for the changes to be applied while other times the system just hangs and I eventually have to kill LV thus creating a hideously time wasting cycle in where I once again attempt to make changes to the class, it hangs, ad infinitum.  Has anyone else seen this?  Is there a work around?

No.  I am saying that this is not associated with a project.  A class does not have to be associated with a project.  If you open a .lvclass file you will get a window that looks like a library window where, similar to the library, everything contained in the class namespace will be found.
I am running LV 2011 on a 32-bit Windows 7 machine with a dual core i5 (2.53 GHz) and 4 Gb of ram.  Performance wise, I am having no issues with any other aspects of LV 2011 (strike that - it does seem to crash more than I desire).  As I said in the above post, this seems to be an issue only when I am trying to change things such as names in a space other than the properties dialog box.
I suspect this might be associated with the installation, but I am not positive.  I have attached two classes if you are interested in playing with them.  Basically, I was only trying to change the type and name of the variable tscan in the SMPS class (I included the CPC class due to the dependency of the SMPS, but I am afraid there may be some other dependencies that I can not immediately see).

  • Selection issue with editable Spark DataGrid

    Hi everyone,
I am evaluating the new Spark DataGrid and I'm having a very strange issue with the behavior of selection in an editable instance.
Here is my test application: http://www.playcalliope.com/flex/DataGridSelectionIssue.html (code here: https://gist.github.com/1129160)
And here are the steps to reproduce the issue:
    select the very first cell at the top-left corner of the grid (the one with "Gabriele");
    click on it once more, the editor appears;
now click on the cell just to the right of it (the one with "Genta").
You should see that editing ends as it supposed to do, but selection is placed on the third cell (the one with a 5 in it) instead on the one you clicked on. Playing a little with the grid you should see that this isn't the only case, but selection is really behaving randomly.
    I am using SDK 4.5.1.21328.
I think this is a very basic usage case.. I can't believe this is not working properly, what am I missing?
    Thanks a lot,
    Gabriele Genta

Your running into a known bug, https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-30088.
The  bug will be fixed in the Mega release. To work around the bug you can  create a custom editor and remove the  "dataGrid.validateNow();" call in  DataGridEditor.save().
Here's how I modified your example to workaround the bug:

  • Colour Management Issues with Leopard and Photoshop CS3

    Hi Everyone,
Since I have installed Leopard I am having colour management issues with Photoshop CS3 and my Canon i9950 printer.
My screen is calibrated with a Spyder and I used to ask Photoshop (in 10.4.11) to manage colour when printing and used the Spyder profile. Everything came out as I saw it on screen.
Now in leopard when I do the same thing everything comes out too yellow on the print. If I ask Photoshop to let the printer manage the colour it is too red. If I use the default colour management (photoshop managing the colour and it choosing the colour space it is better, but still too yellow).
Photoshop gives the hint to turn off colour management in the printer but there is no option for this and it also said the same thing before of course (when it worked in 10.4.11).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I'm having exactly the same problem, only my printer is a Canon Pixma iX4000. The colour is all bleached out, it looks exactly like when you've accidentally printed an RGB file on a CMYK printer, and at first I thought that was what I had done, but it isn't. This is very frustrating, I've spent all day going through the manuals, recalibrating etc, but no luck. This is a brand new Mac Pro and printer, but if its not going to print what I see on screen it's just expensive junk.
I wasn't sure if the problem was Leopard or the printer or CS3...

Not as far as I know.  PSE opens a new image in the editing window according to its own internal formula for size.

  • Having issues with painting in Photoshop CS5, can you help?

    Hi,
I'm having issues with painting. At the end of a brushstroke (not the stroke option), I see a little "dot" that appears, instead of a fine end. Do you know what I'm talking about, and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

This may sound strange, but try starting your brush strokes at the top of the page.  That way the tendency is for the stylus tip to lift at the end of the stroke.  Going bottom to top tends to push the tip into the tablet.   You could also look at Brush Shape Dynamics (F5).  It looks like you have Size jitter set to pen Pressure, but set the minimum siz to 0% - if not already set so.  Then it is a matter of lots of practice, and perhaps making full use of the CS5 rotate screen feature (r) to keep your brush strokes at whatever is the optimum angle for you.

  • Using Photoshop Elements as external editor with Aperture 3: What are issues with requiring 8-bit image?

While I would do most of my photo edits with Aperture there may be times I would like to do special effects that a PSE might offer with layers.  I am considering purchasing PSE 10 and was concerned with having to lose information by saving as an 8-bit image.  Can anyone enlighten me of the circumstances when this would be of concern?
    Thanks.

Can anyone enlighten me of the circumstances when this would be of concern?
If you had to do high quality printing larger than 8x10.
Before buying PSE trial Pixelmator and try GIMP. Note that GIMP (now v2.6) will have 16-bit per channel with v3.0.
