Presets disappeared

I have been running LR3 for a couple of weeks on an iMac with 10.6.4 installed suddenly my user presets have disappeared along with one folder of photographs. I also can't get to Adobe Help because Air seems to be just that, air and it too has disappeared. I downloaded the latest but it doesn't open.

What did you do to restore?
If you can develop them, just ignore the question marks. Sometimes LR3 gives "false alarms".
If you cannot develop, click the question mark and locate the file. If you don't know, where the file is or should be, use search in Finder (spotlight?) to search for a filename that is reported as missing in Lightroom.

In Adobe 3.0 I seem to be able to access the plugins but all the presets that they originally came with, as well as the ones I had added have disappeared. Does anyone know how to restore them?

Unfortunately, due to Adobe's attitude to the running of forums (don't get me started on that again!) none of the FAQs that were on this forum exist at all on it any more. Fortunately for you, AudioMasters managed to save them all, and with the blessing of the person who wrote most of them, we have incorporated them into the ones we already had, so we now have the lot, in a form where they can be preserved and maintained - the two things that this forum management seem to be congenitally incapable of doing. The particular one you are interested in is here.

  • AME CS5 Presets Disappeared

I've been using the Adobe Media Encoder CS5 (5.0.1 x64) for months now without a problem.  Now whenever I open it, I only have 6 output options.  MPEG2 MXF, FLV, H.264, MPEG2, MPEG2-DVD, and MPEG2-Blu-Ray.  Where did my other presets go and is there a way to get them back?  The only thing I can think of is that I installed XP Codec Pack 2.5.1 and that's when the presets disappeared from ame.  I uninstalled XP Code Pack however the presets are still missing.

Installing third-party codec packs very often displaces the codecs  that AME (and tother applications) rely on. It is very often a bad idea to install third-party codec packs. I spend a lot of time troubleshooting issues that turn out to be caused by isntalling third-party codec packs.
You may need to reinstall the CS5 software to get the codecs back.

  • External Editor presets disappear in LR2

    Hi,
I have configured LR2 with a few custom External Editors and it seems that
there's a bug with this option since my custom commands regularly
disappear. This happened multiple times. This morning I opened LR2 and there
was no more external editor defined in my settings. I had to redefine them
    all.
    Any similar experience?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I'm using a single catalog and yes, I'm storing the presets with the
    catalog.

  • When I uncheck 'store presets with catalogue' my development presets disappear.

When I uncheck 'store presets with catalogue' my brush presets appear nicely (all the new ones I have downloaded) but I then find all of my downloaded Development presets have disappeared.    When I check the 'store presets with catalogue' I then get them all back, but lose my brush adjustment presets.
There must be a simple solution to this?    I have Lightroom 2.7.
    Many thanks.

You have stored your presets with your catalogue AND also stored them with Lightroom always, by checking and unchecking the "store presets with my catalogue"
Do you have different catalogues and do you want to use different presets with them ? That is where "Store presets with catalogue" is for.
If your anwer is NO , then to repair  (I'm on Windows)
    uncheck "store presets with catalogue"
    then from c:\users\your user name\My Pictures\Lightroom\Develop Presets\
    copy all your presets to
    c:\users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets
If your answer is YES do it the other way around with "store presets with catalogue" checked.

  • LR5 Develop Presets disappear after a few minutes in Win 8

I'm finding that my presets are disappearing a few minutes after launching the program. I checked and have installed my presets in the proper folder where it would look for them. I see them when I grab the handle on the left and everything drags up or down. But I begin to two finger drag up and down, the handle on the left stays put and the presets drag up out of sight and a large, blank gap appears below. I've also had it where the presets have disappeared and have had to relaunch LR5 to get them back.
Does any of this sound familiar to anybody?

This is what I see when scroll down. On the right is the end of my Presets list, the left shows what happens when I go past. You'll notice the handle is in the same location on the left.

  • Did compressor plugin presets disappear in Logic 9?

After I upgraded from Logic 8 to Logic 9, I notice that many of the Compressor plugin presets seemed to have disappeared, replaced by a new set. I miss the easy settings like "rock vocal" and the like. Are they gone for good, or was there a glitch in my installation that somehow removed the old files?

Thanks for the response, Sam. I presume the new circuit emulations and deemed superior to the Platinum algorithm.
I'd still like to have the old presets on hand until I've had a chance to get familiar with the new ones. I was able to recover them from my old Logic 7 install. Any idea whether the L8 versions were different?

  • InDesign CS3 PDF Presets disappeared

One of my Macs that has been working fine for a while has suddenly lost it's PDF Presets. I should maybe say misplaced, as they are available in the File>Adobe PDF Presets drop-down menu, but not via the Print dialog.
    Dual 2.3 G5, OS X 10.4.11, InDesign 5.0.4, Acrobat 7 instead of 8 due to Quark, Quark 6.52

I ran through the usual suspects; repair disk permissions, update OS and CS3. No luck. I stubmled upon the link below, again, and manually set permissions for the Application Support folder. It works again (for all accounts).

  • Printing Presets Disappeared

Using Acrobat 8 (I know it's old and has to be used for old printers)
When the application unexpectedly quit I re-opened the program. When I went to print ALL of my printing presets were gone. WHY? Where did they go and how do I get them back. Also, in the future can I save them somewhere else as a backup and then reload them if it ever happens again. This is the 2nd time in 3 years. I'm a print house and use the presets A LOT.
    Thank You.
    Dwayne

Dpocment and Printer presets are, I think saved as part of the InDesign Defaults file (that's a real filename, not a location). See Replace Your Preferences for details on finding and backing up the prefs, or look into Blatner Tools (plugin) or preference manager from In-Tools (I think).

  • Available Loops and Effect Presets Disappeared?

    Hello.
Been on garage band for about 2 weeks now. Suddenly when I looked at my loop index there was a bunch of them greyed out. They were not like this before. Also, when I click an effect, say "Track Reverb" it doesn't give me any preset options.. They just aren't there, and they were before.
    What has happened?
    Thanks,

  • My original presets disappeared

Compressor was working fine. Then yesterday I went to use it and all the presets that had come with it were gone except for the audio presets. The one I needed most, 120 minutes High Quality encode was no longer there. I tried reinstalling Final Cut Pro 4 which originally gave me Compressor, but the presets did not get restored. Help!
How can I restore the original presets... OR ... how can I set a new preset for the 120 minute high quality encodeing to occur?

  • HDV preset disappear, always crash, file too big

I have several problem with premiere cs4 on my Mac Os x 10.5.8.
before unistall cs4 I'm trying to resolve the problems because I have a important project not exported yet and that I can't open anymore.
after found some plug in that make premiere crashing everytime and deleted them, now it opens but can't support anymore any file inside my project saying they're too big size! ( until last week it was working perfectly!)
now I just saw thet I don't have anymore the HDV preset , what's going on ?
shall I unistall it and start again?!
How can I open my project again with out lost anything??
    many thanks

You can try removing the preferences and see if that helps you.  user>documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro.  Take the 4.0 folder to your desktop and start Premiere Pro.  If that doesn't work, I would probably uninstall and reinstall just to be sure.
To uninstall on Mac go to the utilities folder and look at the ADobe Installers folder.  There you should be able to uninstall (yes, you even have to do it on a Mac!)
    Hope this helps,

  • Develop Presets:  Move from "Stored With Catalog" to ?

Early on with LR1, I checked...or didn't uncheck--the box that has LR store the Develop Presets with the Catalog.
I have since read that storing them there may not be a good choice.
Would there be any point to moving them?  Is there any practical way to move them to the "normal" storage location?
I have noticed that when I uncheck the "Store With Catalog" box in LR preferences, my beloved User Presets disappear from their normal place on the left side panel of the Develop Module.
    Mac OS, 10.7, LR 4.2

This is my take on the question:
    http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14169-What-is-the-purpose-of-the-quot-Store- Presets-with-Catalog-quot-option

  • Where does LR3 install develop presets?

I ask this question because, on my system, the answer is not obvious:
I have 8 catalogs. Everyone of them is configured to store presets within the catalog. When I examine the contents of the presets folders (different for every catalog) I find that only 1 catalog out of the 8 contains any items in its Develop Presets folder (other than the folder 'User Presets') and these develop presets appear to be the default ones that are shipped and installed with the product. However, all 8 of the catalogs list these default develop presets under the group 'Lightroom Presets' in the left hand panel in Develop mode.
The 'global' lightroom develop presets location, at ~user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets\Lightroom Presets is empty. However the parent folder (Develop Presets) does contain folders for the 3 volumes of the free OnOne PerfectPresets as well as a User Presets folder (not empty). But, those OnOne presets are available only in 1 of the 8 catalogs, and not the same catalog as that referred to above.
How do catalogs, which do not have the Lightroom default develop presets present, find them?
Why can't catalogs find the free OnOne presets which are installed at the architected system (or global) location or any of the User Presets at this location?
Finally, I do have a 'spare' Lightroom Settings folder which does not appear to be connected to any catalog: when I rename it to a garbage name I can find no immediate problem in any of my 8 catalogs. Is it safe to delete this spare Lightroom Settings folder?

    XEyedBear wrote:

This is where I think you are misunderstanding how the "Store presets with catalog" option works. For a start, you cannot configure an individual catalog to use this option.....it is a global Lightroom preference which applies to any and every catalog on that specific system. Once you have slected that option, the effect is that Lightroom will create a "Lightroom Settings" folder in the same folder as the catalog.....so if you have 8 catalogs, and they're all in their own individual folder, you'll eventually end up with 8 x "Lightroom Settings" folders. Keep all 8 catalogs (and preview sub-folders) in the one folder, and you'll get away with just one "Lightroom Settings" folder.
A couple of other things to understand about this option:
    1. On initial creation, the "Lightroom Settings" folder contains only a subset of the main settings folders contained at the default user appdata location....and all the sub-folders are initially empty. Lightroom does NOT copy any presets (Lightroom's own or your User Presets) to the equivalent sub-folder in "Lightroom Settings".
    2. Furthermore, from the second that you select that option, Lightroom will no longer look at the default location for any User Presets that you had.....so the immediate effect is that the User Presets 'disappear' from the Develop Module (they haven't really been deleted, it's just that Lightroom no longer sees them).
    3. When you create a new User Preset after setting that option, it will be stored in the appropriate sub-folder within the "Lightroom Settings" which is specific to the catalog in use at the time, but would not be copied to any other "Lightroom Settings" folders. Easy in that circumstance to end up with each catalog having different user presets available to it, and easy to see maybe why the OnOne presets are only available to one catalog.
    4. And not all Lightroom settings are 'switched' to the "Lightroom Settings" folder, some remain in the default location.
To be honest, unless you have a really good reason to store different presets with different catalogs, I think you're making a big mistake in selecting the 'Store Presets with catalog' option in your multiple catalog situation. I did a write-up on this subject not so long ago for the folks over at Victoria's Lightroom Forums, you might find it worth a read:
