Presets in Freehand?
Hi,
Just updated my image setter software. Most applications do not really support Freehand anymore. The work-around is to go through the print dialog box in order to send a press-ready PDF.
For this to work (support Freehand), I had to go into Adobe PDF Settings tab, and where it has the 'Default Settings' and 'Adobe PDF Page Size', I had to manually set up the correct document sizes that match our plate files. These are automatically saved once created for future use.
Here's the question...now I need to have other users do the same so they can send plates on their PCs. Rather than having to have them re-create all of these pre-sets, is there a way to go into the Freehand source or program files to copy and paste these presets onto other PCs? Is this possible?
It would save a great deal of time and simplify the process.
Thanks!

How to create a PS file out of Freehand MX?
I am new to these forums, and wonder if anyone can help
clarify a question:
How to create a PS file with fonts embedded, out of Freehand
MX?
I am very late in making the transition to OSX /Freehand MX /
CS1 (better late than never).
Up until recently I have been using Freehand 8/9 under OS 9.2
to create a Postscript file, selecting 'Embed All Fonts' in the
save to file dialog box. Then distilling the PS file through
Acrobat Distiller 5 with press ready settings. All works fine and
no problems with the printed results.
Now running FH MX under OSX (10.2.8 Jaguar?) I have added a
virtual PS printer but I am unable to work out how to successfully
embed fonts, and would much appreciate any advice!! Thanks in
advance.I would be careful saying that the resolution is correct for
any
publication. Newspaper print is typically at 85 lpi where as
standard
press printing (even magazines) is 150 lpi or higher. These
require 170
and 300 ppi images, respectively. Not knowing what the
D6Dispatch
preset gives you I would think it's closer to 170 than 300
which would
not be enough for most print needs other than newspaper.
Also, your directions for finding the PS option are when
using OS X 10.3
or earlier, which is what the original poster is using. For
others, in
10.4, it is found in the "PDF" button found at the bottom of
all option
sections. It is labeled oddly as "Save PDF as PostScript".

How can i get the 'like in photoshop' preset?
I was watching an Illustrator 6 tutorial and the instructor was able to change his workspace to resemble photoshop with a 'Like in photoshop' preset. There was also an InDesign and FreeHand preset as well. Is this a feature that needs to be enabled or downloaded.
You're right Kurt. Here's a picture from AICS5

Freehand - The Adobe Makeover.
Is it just me or do you find yourself banging your head on
the desk every time you try and use Illustrator. I can't do
anything without heading to the help files every 10 mins, then
giving up and heading back to FreeHand.
Don't get me wrong, I am loving some Illustrator CS2 features
like 3D Effects, Live Paint, Open Type support, Make Warp presets,
Live Trace, better gradients and great consistency between the
other Adobe CS2 apps, but why, oh why do I have to draw a selection
with the Direct Selection tool to select a point (which selects all
the objects under it). Why can't I just click on the point to move
it and not move the whole shape. It is just complete madness. The
way FreeHand Selects and Superselects is far superior in my view
which works great with 'Paste Inside'. Illustrators 'Make Clipping
Path' just freaks me out when I click on one and it shows me
everything that is in there - I hid it for a reason!
I use the Bezigon tool - can't get used to the pen. I use
Find and Replace all the time! Adjustable Curved Corners on a
rectangle anyone! Multiple Pages! - as far as I am concerned this
is an integral part of my design process. If I am designing a
logo/letterhead for a client, I do it all in one document and let
my design grow and adapt to what I think works without having to
save loads of different versions. Different size pages in one
document are also helpful too! FreeHand has got a load of
passionate users for a reason.
If FreeHand was given an Adobe makeover (great CS3 support,
excellent transparency, colour management, the Adobe type engine
(OpenType, Font Grouping, Optical Kerning etc), Universal Binary,
Better Gradients, 3D Effects, Live Paint, Live Trace and Make Warp
presets) then I am absolutely positive that it would be worth there
while. I know it would be a heck of a lot of work but it would be a
shame to let that new FreeHand icon go to waste
Adobe, please help me.I think the loss of Freehand will also alter the quality of
work produced. People who have become extremely adept with
Freehand, forced to migrate to what the majority of Freehand users
view as an inferior product, which can't conform to their very
specific needs. as for a replacement, Freehand, Illustrator and to
a lesser extent Corel Draw are in a league of their own. Years of
advancements, users suggestions and real life testing have made
these programs what they are. The newer ones on the market which
randomly choose some of the more easily replicated features of
these programs then slap a catchy name and a "Better than Freehand,
Illustrator and Corel Draw" statement on the box will just not fill
the void. As for the Illustrator vs Freehand battle neither party
will be happy. Illustrator's restrictions spawn from compatibility
and similarity with its other Adobe counterparts. Where as
Freehand's far advanced multiple pageing, selection and individual
point editing come from what the end user requires. But Freehands
lack of raster or bitmap effects brings much hatred from
Illustrator users. Personally I think a vector program should be
just that, not a half and half blur between vector and raster. In
the end I think it is going to be third party addons and
modifications to the Illustrator format which will be required to
bring it up to scratch if Adobe simply wishes to eradicate Freehand
completely. Could go on and on...
You have been with me for years. We have grown together and
advanced together. Freehand, You will be remembered, and
missed. -
Is there a way to create a renaming preset where the sequence starts at the number "0" zero?
What I am trying to achieve is the following:
Fro example, I am photographing a handbag and I need to rename the file using a barcode and a barcode scanner.
My sequence of images goes like this:
Image 1: Tag shot
Image 2: Front
Image 3: Back
Image 4: Inside bag
Let's say the barcode once scanned produces a code such as TRE8801AZT16-Z
Right now my current preset is "Custom Text_Image # (1)"
This results with the images being renamed as:
TagShot: TRE8801AST16-Z_1
Front: TRE8801AST16-Z_2
Back: TRE8801AST16-Z_3
Inside bag: TRE8801AST16-Z_4
What I need is the sequence to start at zero so the tag shot is _0 and my images are named like this:
TagShot: TRE8801AST16-Z_0
Front: TRE8801AST16-Z_1
Back: TRE8801AST16-Z_2
Inside bag: TRE8801AST16-Z_3
Is this possible? If yes, how?
Thanks for the help
CodyAbout as close as you can get is to right-click on a single clip and Make Multiclip Sequence. Hit OK to make an sequence out of the single clip. Open the sequence made and delete the multiclip and edit the clip you want back into the sequence.

How to add folder/project name to a File Naming preset
Here's a tip to automatically add the name of the Project or its parent Folder to the filename during Import or Batch Change.
I always used a custom field for adding my client's name to the filename upon Import or Batch Changing versions or masters. But often I would forget to change the custom name, and since it's auto-populated with the previous entry, I'd end up with a bunch of files with the wrong client's name on them. That looks kind of bad. So once I saw with Aperture 3 you can add the Project name or Folder name when relocating referenced files to the new folder structure, I was excited to be able to do the same for the filenames at import. Well, no such luck. They're not an option when you create a custom File Naming preset.
However, I recently decided to poke around inside some plist files, and found a workaround. I discovered the format string for Folder Name is %F and Project Name is %P. The trick is getting the code into the Format Field where you create the preset.
Create a new File Naming preset by choosing "edit" from the Version Name menu during Import or Batch Change. Drag everything you want in the name into the Format field, and enter %F or %P where you want the Folder or Project name. The tricky part is that you can't insert it between two existing criteria. It only works at the very end. After you have it in place, you can drag the criteria around to get it in the order you want.
The alternative method is to insert the code directly into the plist. PLEASE, always make sure you're working with a copy and have a good backup when you're poking around in such things. If you have trouble getting the code to take from within Aperture, you can try this. Same as above, create a new preset, but this time, enter an F or P where you want the Folder or Project name. Give it a unique preset name and save it. Then Quit Aperture. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/FileNamingPresets.plist, and make a copy of the file, then open with Property List Editor. Dropdown the plist and then dropdown the item you want to edit. You should recognize it by the preset name. Now the easy part. Click in the FormatString field and insert the % character before the F or P you entered in the Format field. Save and you're done.
I discovered later that while the Folder and Project name works just fine during import, for some reason only the Project name works during Batch Change. The Folder name simply creates a "-" in the filename.
In case this is seen as a hack and gets deleted, I'm also submitting it to http://www.macosxhints.com/ and I suspect if anyone from MacCreate sees it, they'll steal it too, as they're known to do.I do not think there is an out of the box way to do this.
The immediate solution that comes to mind is using a workflow, that runs everytime a document is uploaded/item created, which may be too much for your scenario.

HP Color Laserjet 4600dn - presets don't save
We have an HP Color Laserjet 4600dn which is networked and is using Appletalk.
The printer has two paper trays-- #1 is a pulldown rack which will hold various paper sizes and #2 is a 500 sheet tray for letter size paper.
In OS X 10.4 we could go into the "Paper Feed" feature in the Print menu (in MS Word, for example), set the feed to Tray #2 and save this as a "preset" we called "Main Tray".
In OS X Leopard I can no longer save the preset so the paper is always fed out of tray #1 unless (1) there is no paper in tray #1 or (2) I manually set the paper feed feature each time.
HP does not have a newer drive on its website and Leopard has the CLJ 4600 in its list of printer drivers and has settings for features such memory and duplex.
Anyone have an idea how to get the very useful "presets" function working again?
Thanks
RichThis is a known problem and will most likely have to wait for an update from Apple.

Media Encoder CC exporting the wrong resolution in custom preset h.264
I have two custom presets in Media Encoder CC. The original file is an mov Lossless 720x480 from After Effects. One is h.264 mp4 720x480 and the other is h.264 640x480. When I encode the resolutions are 872x480 and 581x480 respectively. Not sure what I have going on here. The presets worked with the same settings just fine in Media Encoder CS6 on another computer. Any ideas?

Prelude CC does not see presets in Media Encoder CC
I'm new at this, but am getting help from someone who has set this up and has it working in a previous version of the software(s), so we're both baffled!
I have defined a preset in Media Encoder CC, but when I go into Prelude CC to utilize it, it does not appear in the list of options. However, I am able to see and access the preset in Premiere CC .No amount of deleting/reinstalling/cursing has helped, and I don't see anything in the software that would disable it. I'm running a Windows 7 box.
Any ideas out there? (stupid computers!!!)Unfortunately, I only know the workaround on a Mac, but it might help as long as you can track the directories and might help Mac users who have suffered the same fate.
For whatever reason, AME is placing the presets in a new location without Prelude knowing about it. Ill communication. Basically, Prelude is looking in one place for the presets and the new Media Encoder is placing them elsewhere.
The workaround is to find where AME is placing them and move them to where Prelude is looking for them.
On a Mac, the solution is to take the presets User-- Documents--Adobe-Adobe Media Encoder--8.0--Presets and move them to where Prelude has always looked for them and where AME always previously stored them. User--Library--Preferences--Adobe--Common--AME--8.0. On some machines, Adobe created an alias inside of here to point to the Documents folder and that solved it, but for whatever reason, it's inconsistent. -
Printing presets are not loaded correctly
Dear community,
i have the following problems using different printers (Canon MG5200, Epson Workforce WF3620, etc.):
I saved about 10 own printing presets and when I check on them under "Show presets" they are totally correct. But when I want to use them in a following print job and select them in the drop-down list "Presets" they are not correctly loaded. E.g. "Paper Size" and "Pages" are alternated to thesetting saved in the preset but e.g. the "Duplex Printing" checkbox or the "Print Quality" drop-down list are just left on the setting they were on before.
Anyone knows that problem and can help me?
Thanks for your help.
Greetings,
Fares from MunichSorry for the delay in responding.
I was having trouble with presets, too, on my Epson printer/scanner, which is an old machine and the newer driver software does not give the same print setting options that came originally. So I decided to start from scratch. First I used the Epson uninstaller to remove the printer software. Next, reset the print system, then connected directly to the printer via USB. Ignored the initial offer to download driver software. In the printer panel in System Preferences, clicked + to add the printer. Then the printer was set up by the system. Still connected directly, I made the presets. Make sure to check the box for "All printers" for your presets. These presets should work when you connect your printer on the network instead of USB. -
Adobe Bridge Freezes While Previewing Animation Presets
Hello
I know this question has been asked several times over, but I do not have a resolution so I thought would ask again. Like the previous posts, when I browse presets from the Effects and Animations menu, Adobe Bridge opens. I can scroll through the animations, but once I choose one, the play button scrubs and appears to play, but never does, and then the program freezes. I have read the blog posts and installed the fixes posted on the adobe blog, but nothing helps. All of my Apple Software and Creative Cloud software says it is up to date.
Here are my settings:
Adobe After Effects 12.2.1.5
Adobe Bridge 6.0.1.6
Apple Quicktime 10.1
20-inch, Early 2008 iMac OS X
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)
Any guidance you can offer is much appreciated!
Thank you,Thanks for the quick reply Rick. Yes, 4Gb is not a lot, but when I bought the machine I was not doing any video and it sure seemed like plenty in 2008. I probably should upgrade...
I did close down everything else, but the problem still exists. I can navigate to a thumbnail, but once I click on it and try to preview, the program freezes and I have to force quit. -
Are There Preset Flash Buttons In Dreamweaver CS4
I have upgraded from Dreamweaver MX to CS4 and I'm looking for preset flash buttons that I can just insert within dreamweaver and I can't find any. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? I don't know how to create flash buttons just yet and If i need to start the journey of learning how please let me know. I'm editing a site I created in MX so I want matching buttons and such lol.
There aren't any flash buttons in DWCS4 anymore see Deprecated features in this link:

Any suggestions? As the crash report says - your outdated video card driver is crashing. You need to update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website (AMD/ATI in this case).

Unable To Use DVDSP4 Presets for HD-DVD in the H.264 Format
I recently prepared a 23 minute slide show using Fotomagico from high resolution Hasselblad slides scanned in at 1200 dpi. Within Fotomagico I rendered the Fotomagico slide show to Apple ProRes 422 HQ, took it into Final Cut Pro 6.03 and added an intro and closing section. I then sent this to Compressor and selected the 30 minute HD-DVD preset which uses mpeg2. All went fine with the encoding to mpeg2 and I got a successful build and format out of DVDSP4 after importing the resulting .m2v file into DVDSP4. However, while the disk plays back fine in my Mac Pro it plays back with stuttering (audio and video) on my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. I used a Verbatim Datalife DVD+R, but several other discs from other manufactuers including a DVD-R disc showed the same problem.
Please note that I have the latest firmware on my Toshiba HD-A2 and I have successfully burned RL HD-DVD discs using my PC and Windows software (Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 6+) which play fine without stuttering on my HD-A2.
I then decided to send the project to Compressor and use the 60 minute HD-DVD preset that encodes to H.264. Once again Compressor successfully executed the encode of my 23 minute slide show and it plays fine in QuickTime or MPEG StreamClip. However, every time I try and import this .mov file encoded in H.264 using the Compressor preset for HD-DVD into DVDSP4, DVDSP4 brings it in to the assets folder, but after a couple of seconds DVDSP4 crashes. Using console I get a message that DVDSP4 quit unexpectedly due to a "segmentation fault".
I also tried to take the ProRes Fotomagic project in Final Cut Pro 6.02 and send it out with Quicktime Conversion using the H.264 codec. Again I have a file that plays fine in QT, but when I try and import this .mov file into DVDSP4, I get the message "imcompatible format".
In summary, I am completely frustrated after many many hours of work at trying to prepare an HD-DVD on red laser of my slide show in DVDSP4. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong, and I would be most appreciative of any suggestions anyone may have.
Thanks in advance.
TomAm I the only person who has ever tried to use the Presets in Compressor 3 for encoding HD-DVD disks? I would like to use these presets for burning HD-DVD's to standard red laser media as I have done on my PC. With the mpeg2 Preset I can get nothing but stuttering video when played back on my Toshiba HD-A2 and when I use Compressor 3 to encode with either of the H264 presets, the resulting .mov file causes DVDSP4 to crash when I import the file. Has no one else experienced this? Does anyone have any thoughts on addressing these issues other than to go back to working on my PC?
