Presets lightroom 4

I am having trouble getting my presets to show up under presets on the left hand side of the screen. They are still in develop presets but there not showing up and Ive tried deleting them and adding them again then closing out of lightroom 4 and going back in but I can not seem to get them to show up again. I must have hit something but there not showing up again

What directory are they in? In Windows 7 they should be in C:/Users/USER (or your name)/App Data/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets/User Presets and should have the extension *.lrtemplate.

  • Missing print templates - Lightroom preset ones

All the preset Lightroom PRINT templates have disappeared.  I see the folder on the left that says Print templates and Lightroom templates and user templates.  If I import templates they show up in user templates as expected but the Lightroom Templates is completely empty - just pops up new folder box.  I have checked preferences and looked for the template folder.  I just has a folder for user templates which seems to be what the problem is.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail.  I also went back and deleted old versions (3,4) and the preferences files and every other file/folder I could find relating to lightroom including catalogs.  I have lightroom installed on both my laptop and Imac.  The problem is occuring on both so it seems that accidently deleting something is unlikely.  I've never looked at the print module before so this may have been going on for a long time.
Any ideas on how to get these.
    <moved by mod from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

I assume you mean, Edit / Preferences...  [presets tab] Location: [Show Lightroom Presets Folder]. If you haven't yet saved any print presets of your own, then LR has not yet had any need of a User folder to contain such. So one may not yet have been made.
The easiest way to get LR to do that, (and to be sure that you are looking in the right place) : click the + icon next to Template Browser in Print module.
IOW: save a dummy print preset, doesn't matter about its contents, but enter some very distinctive name and then click Create. By default this should go into "User Templates", which is made as necessary, though you can choose to make a differently named folder if you prefer.
Full path on my Win8.1 is C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Print Templates\User Templates
Then take a look in Explorer and see what has changed - if there's any problem, you can always disk search for whatever distinctive template name you have just entered. Copy your other bought templates alongside this new dummy print preset, restart LR and you should be able to start using any of those. Delete the dummy preset in due course.
(Note that it is quite usual for built-in LR presets to be held somewhere quite different, than user created or user added items. The provided choices such as "(1) 4 x 6" and "custom 1 over 2" may not be findable anywhere on disk, for example.)

  • Lightroom presets

I tried to add some new presets to my folder as the directions stated and now when I open my lightroom all of my previous presets I created are missing.  They were not deleted out of the files, I just cannot see them on my lightroom anymore.  Does anyone know what folder adjustment I need to make to get my presets back?  Im in the process of editing a session, and need HELP.  Please.

    Hi Joe,
That was the problem, I had adobe take over my computer and fix it back to default settings and then we found my presets and added the nee free ones.  They were a HUGE help and its all fixed and session was edited.  Yeah!  I can stop panicking.  Thank you for your help, and taking the time.  Have a good day.

If you have multiple catalogs floating around (not normally a good thing), you probably want to separate the presets from the catalogs by making sure they are not linked:
    menu: / edit / preferences / presets / location
make sure the check box "store with catalog" is UNchecked.

  • Deleting Lightroom 4 (mac) default presets

I'm buying a lot of presets from designers and also create a lot by my own. So not to loose the overview I want to delete those which I don't need. For example all the default ones (Lightroom Effect Presets, Lightroom Video Presets...). I tried to delete the template folder in finder, but then it shows an error at the next startup. If I just delete the subfolders, then the folders within Lightroom still appear on the panel, just the presets within are gone.
Any help how to make them vanish?

The only way to do it is to root around inside the application bundle itself and delete files.  This isn't a great idea, and every time you update Lightroom, they'll be back.
Others have posted the process here, if you want to search, but again it's best to assume it's not easily possible.

  • LR3 Preset Templates - Printing

Hello, I am new to LR3 and have discovered I have no preset Lightroom templates in the printing module.  Can I get these?  Thanks

What's a lulu preset template? One can load document or PDF presets, or open InDesign template files (.indt), but you don't install them, and of course any template made from a newer version of ID will not open in CS5.5.

  • Where does LR3 install develop presets?

I ask this question because, on my system, the answer is not obvious:
I have 8 catalogs. Everyone of them is configured to store presets within the catalog. When I examine the contents of the presets folders (different for every catalog) I find that only 1 catalog out of the 8 contains any items in its Develop Presets folder (other than the folder 'User Presets') and these develop presets appear to be the default ones that are shipped and installed with the product. However, all 8 of the catalogs list these default develop presets under the group 'Lightroom Presets' in the left hand panel in Develop mode.
The 'global' lightroom develop presets location, at ~user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets\Lightroom Presets is empty. However the parent folder (Develop Presets) does contain folders for the 3 volumes of the free OnOne PerfectPresets as well as a User Presets folder (not empty). But, those OnOne presets are available only in 1 of the 8 catalogs, and not the same catalog as that referred to above.
How do catalogs, which do not have the Lightroom default develop presets present, find them?
Why can't catalogs find the free OnOne presets which are installed at the architected system (or global) location or any of the User Presets at this location?
Finally, I do have a 'spare' Lightroom Settings folder which does not appear to be connected to any catalog: when I rename it to a garbage name I can find no immediate problem in any of my 8 catalogs. Is it safe to delete this spare Lightroom Settings folder?

    XEyedBear wrote:

This is where I think you are misunderstanding how the "Store presets with catalog" option works. For a start, you cannot configure an individual catalog to use this option.....it is a global Lightroom preference which applies to any and every catalog on that specific system. Once you have slected that option, the effect is that Lightroom will create a "Lightroom Settings" folder in the same folder as the catalog.....so if you have 8 catalogs, and they're all in their own individual folder, you'll eventually end up with 8 x "Lightroom Settings" folders. Keep all 8 catalogs (and preview sub-folders) in the one folder, and you'll get away with just one "Lightroom Settings" folder.
A couple of other things to understand about this option:
    1. On initial creation, the "Lightroom Settings" folder contains only a subset of the main settings folders contained at the default user appdata location....and all the sub-folders are initially empty. Lightroom does NOT copy any presets (Lightroom's own or your User Presets) to the equivalent sub-folder in "Lightroom Settings".
    2. Furthermore, from the second that you select that option, Lightroom will no longer look at the default location for any User Presets that you had.....so the immediate effect is that the User Presets 'disappear' from the Develop Module (they haven't really been deleted, it's just that Lightroom no longer sees them).
    3. When you create a new User Preset after setting that option, it will be stored in the appropriate sub-folder within the "Lightroom Settings" which is specific to the catalog in use at the time, but would not be copied to any other "Lightroom Settings" folders. Easy in that circumstance to end up with each catalog having different user presets available to it, and easy to see maybe why the OnOne presets are only available to one catalog.
    4. And not all Lightroom settings are 'switched' to the "Lightroom Settings" folder, some remain in the default location.
To be honest, unless you have a really good reason to store different presets with different catalogs, I think you're making a big mistake in selecting the 'Store Presets with catalog' option in your multiple catalog situation. I did a write-up on this subject not so long ago for the folks over at Victoria's Lightroom Forums, you might find it worth a read:

  • How to migratre Lightroom DB to another PC

    Hi,
I recently got a more powerful PC and would like to move my Lightroom DB and photos to that PC so I can work more efficiently. I've copied the photo files to the new hard drive (same path). I then copied the Lightroom DB over top of the default one after installing Lightroom on the new PC.
When I launch Lightroom, I can see the Library view and 1286 image placeholders (even color-coded, as I had made them). But there were no thumbnails in the image placeholders and Lightroom also says there are 1286 files missing.
What could I be missing? Is there a proper migration procedure to allow me to move my work to this other PC?
    Thanks,
    B

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I found a KB article on preference file locations and decided to copy the following files/folders as well:
    -Preferences
    -Metadata Presets
    -Lightroom Previews.lrdata
I can see all the thumbnails now but when I go to Develop on any of the images, I see an error "The file could not be opened." For some reason it's still having trouble seeing all the image files I copied over.
    Any ideas?

  • LR4.1 preset for sharpening darkens pictures

    Hello,
the Adobe presets delivered with LR4 for sharpening include a command line which forces a switch to the new process engine "2012" or ProcessVersion = "6.7".  I do not understand why Adobe allows a general preset to include a process version change command.
As a result, these sharpening presets can not be used on photos from an older LR3.x catalog without affecting the exposure or brightness - if you do, the picture exposure or brightness or whatever is set to lower settings, the histogram shows a darkening of about 2/3 aperture. Unfortunately, as the exposure changes, no slider or number value of the exposure, brightness etc. do change - very inconsistent.
In case you would choose to develop an older photo in LR4.1 and first use the upate icon button right of the picture to update the photo to process version 2012, then the picture will convert without changes in exposure (to the new process version) and then, the sharpening preset will not alter the exposure.
Also, it is hard to understand that the command line in the preset has a different result compared to the update button.
Presets seem to be dependent on certain process versions.  No consideration is visible in the software for upgrade of change management of presets vs. process versions.  A hard switch by command line does not to the job - this command line should not be in the preset.  OR - the presets have to be named "LR4.1 presets only".
I consider this behaviour to be a bug or nonconformity of the software.
Mostly confused. I will have to manage all manually, with a catalog of approx. 35.000 pictures.
    Any resolution to this?
    Gerd

There are a number of LR4 Develop presets That apply PV2012 without doing the develop conversion process. This sure looks like a bug to me!
I agree with Rob that there should be a "warning" popup and proper conversion if you choose to proceed.
You can submit a bug report here:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
For now your easiest solution is to create your own develop presets, or copy LR3's presets by 'Import' into a 'New Folder' titled 'LR3 Presets inside the LR4 Develop module 'Presets' panel.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/04/updating-develop-presets-for-lightroom-4-2 .html
I just tried it on my Windows 7 LR4.1 and the LR3 presets work fine in LR4. It looks like they also include PV2010 as part of the LR3 preset, so make sure you don't use them with any LR4 PV2012 processed images. LR3 must be installed (or reinstalled) to 'Import' the LR3 develop presets into LR4.
Here's the path on Windows 7 to 'Import' the LR3 presets inside LR4's Develop module:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets\Lightroom Presets
The new 'LR3 Presets' folder will also show up in LR3's Develop preset panel. Simply ignore it if you still use LR3, but don't delete the folder.

  • LR5 crashes on import with 'Upright' dev preset

I created a new develop preset to apply Upright Mode and Upright Transforms, under Lens Corrections.  I then updated one of my import presets to apply that develop preset during import.  Every time I import using that preset, Lightroom 5 crashes: Windows reports that it has stopped working, and offers to send crash details to MS.  Once I altered that same import preset to no longer apply that new develop preset, the import works flawlessly.  I can apply that develop preset to individual images without issue.

  • How do I remove invalid develop presets

    Hi.
I've had Lightroom on my Mac for quite some time.  I've gone through periods where I use it, then periods where I don't.  In one of those iterations, I somehow got a list of develop presets that are not valid.
When I go to the develop section, I have about a dozen preset folders.  In my [~/Library/Application Support/Lightroom/Develop Presets] directory, I have just 4 folders that I just created this morning for a new preset group I just bought.  Unfortunately, the other items inside Lightroom are causing Lightroom to give an error "The file could not be found" and will not let me open or close the folders nor remove the ones that do not exist.
How do I clean up that list and get rid of the invalid items?
In case they're built-ins, the list that is not in my Application Support directory are:
    Lightroom B&W Filter Presets
    Lightroom B&W Presets
    Lightroom Color Presets
    Lightroom Effect Presets
    Lightroom General Presets
    Lightroom Video Presets
If I can get those back, that'd be even better.
    Thanks in advance.

OK, I deleted my Lightroom settings and life is good again.

  • Freezing in import dialog when selecting "Import Preset" FIXED IN LR3.2

    Hi all,
I have just installed Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 on my Vista Ultimate 32-bit system.
When in the import dialog if i change any settings and click "Save Current Settings as Import Preset", Lightroom 3 freezes and after a minute displays the dialog to name the new Preset. After entering a new name for the Preset and clicking OK it freezes again! then eventually comes back.
I'm also getting freezes when selecting a different import drive, but that only seems to happen when using the external network drives and is possibly un-related.
I have tried running scandisk and defrag on all my drives (no change), Removing all external network drives (no change!).
    My system config is as follows;
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit 4GB RAM 2x 1TB SATA Hard Drives 3.1GHZ E8500 Dual-Core Intel CPU
Plenty of space free on both drives (500GB in each), Swap on D: Drive and O/S on C:
I installed by un-installing the Lightroom 2.6 copy and running the new install(in case it's relevant!)
Lightroom 2.6 was running perfectly before the upgrade.
    Any ideas I can try?
    Thanks in advance!

    FIXED IN Lightroom 3.2 Update

No, factory presets are embedded inside Lightroom and cannot be removed.
Well, actually, they can, but this is undocumented and you'll have to do it after each update.

  • How would you compare aperture to lightroom

I'm just enthusaist and learning photography. It will be a hobby, which of this software going to be user friendly ? pros and cons ?

Blow is a non-extensive list of the strengths and weaknesses of each - at least what I've found so far (I'm running both Aperture 3.3.1 and LR4.1)
    Aperture's strengths:
    Project based management
    Improved/faster importing
Option for both managed and referenced libraries (Lightroom only does referenced)
Book printer options - Apple does an excellent job.  There are also three other book printers that have plugins for Aperture
Nik and OnOne plugins seem to work better/faster
    Retouching brushes
Better OS X integration, integration with iCloud and iOS devices.
    Aperture's weakesses:
Lack of lens correction or custom camera profiles (plugin available for lens correction)
White Balance and Hightlight/Shadow, although updated, don't match Lightroom's capabilities
Recovery slider not as effective as LR4's White/Black sliders
    Fewer presets available
Stability - prior to v. 3.3.1, there have been some stability issues
    Lightroom's strengths:
Develop module has been updated.  Highlight/Shadow and White/Black sliders have been reworked.
Broader acceptace, more training and presets available
    Multiple book templates
    Print presets
    Lightroom's weaknesses
SLOOOOWWWWW - this is the biggest complaint (check the Adobe forums).  Very slow switching between modules.
Image/file/folder organization is confusing (use of Folders and Collections)
    Print module can be confusing
Slideshow and Web modules have not been updated since v.2
Adobe is slow to provide updates (took 3 months between original release and v. 4.1 to address a major problem with plugins not working).

  • Store catalog and presets on spideroak hive or USB 3.0 flashdrive?

Hello, this is my first post, please forgive any errors.
I have a licensed copy of LR5 loaded on a Lenovo W510 laptop and a Lenovo Helix.
I have filled 2 external drives which have my photos on them.
I own, but have not yet setup a Synology DS713 where I would like to set up 2 3Tb RAID storage drives for my photos.
I own, but have not yet setup a Kingston 128 3.0 flashdrive where I would like to set up my LIGHTROOM files.
This would include the catalog, presets, user config files, etc... everything that makes LR5 - "ME".
    My questions are:
    1) What files do I need to move to the flashdrive so I can look like the same session no matter which device I am on?
---Please be very specific. Is the folder structure critical? I know about lrcat and preset and smart preview, but what about other LR5 config? my watermark? my purchased presets? my import and export preferences, etc...
    2) Will LR5 find these files (catalog, preset, config) if they are on a flashdrive?
2a) If LR5 can find them on a flashdrive, what if I moved all these files to my SpiderOak Hive? It would look like the flashdrive, just faster and auto sync'ed.
    3) How difficult and are there any tricks or traps I need to know about to move photos from my externals to the NAS RAID system?
    My questions about CC are:
    1) For $9.99/mo what is the storage size? Or cost to increase?
    2) If I get the above items working, would I even need CC (other than if I want to work on my iPhone or iPad)?
I have had these ideas swirling around my head, but I just am not certain how to get everything connected and working - or even if it is possible!
    Thank you SOOOO much!
    Julie

    dj_paige,
    Thank you for your input.
I think I will try the flashdrive approach rather than cloud-based catalog - for now. I can always have SpiderOak backup my files, in case the flashdrive crashes. It seems like that would run faster than waiting for the cloud and worrying about syncing before overwriting the catalog. My laptop and tablet both have USB 3.0 so I'm hoping this will make me very portable and fast. Keeping all my presets (Watermarks, exports, etc...) and of course, the catalog.
    Questions:
So, am I moving all the files from the AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom folder to the flashdrive ... maybe L:Presets\Lightroom\*.* ? Presets and config files
And, I am moving all the files from the MyPictures\Lightroom\ folder to the flashdrive ... maybe L:\Catalog\Lightroom\*.*? Includes catalog, previews and smart previews
Does this make sense? Will LR find all these files on the flashdrive? Can I delete them from the C: drive on both machines - after tested on flashdrive?
    Comments:
Once I accomplish this, I will move all my photos from the multiple external drives to the Synology NAS RAID-1.
    So excited ... and frightened.
    Question:
With this setup, do I gain any advantage to using the Creative Cloud? Other than being able to keyword and edit on my iPhone?
Thanks in advance for all of your time.
    Julie

  • How do I delete develop preset folders?

I'm wondering if it's possible to delete the develop preset folders that come pre-installed with LR 4.  I don't see them in the Develop Presets folder in Application Support/Adobe, and right-clicking on the folders themselves in LR doesn't provide the option to delete.
The folders I'm talking about are:
    Lightroom B&W Filter Presets
    Lightroom B&W Presets
    Lightroom B&W Toned Presets
    etc...

So there is no changes on Mac remove or not templates from develop module, folders is still present even if it's empty
