Presonus compatibility with iMac

I have an iMac G5 (bought in january 2005) 1,8 GHZ and 1 Giga Ram which is working perfectly well.I just bought the presonus Firebox audio-Midi card which is connected via a firewire port. I have downloaded OS X 10.3.9. So Apparently I have the minimum required for compatibility. Cubase Le is bundled with presonus.
When I try to record or playback some takes I have craks and drop out and the mouse after few minutes is going absolutely crazy and I cannot control it at all. When the firewire cable is disconnected everything is going back to normal.
The presonus technician think that it might be a problem with the firewire port. has anybody experienced this problem? Any tips to fix it.
Thank you for your help

  • Upgrade Mac OS on my iBook and compatibility with iMac

    Hello,
I had an iBook bought around 2002 in the US and it's a G3. I've moved to Thailand and haven't used it a lot due to limited applicability in Thailand. But now, Mac is more available so I'm now considering bought the new iMac. I wonder if I can upgrade the OS X on my iBook to the latest one so that I can have my old iBook sync-ing with the new iMac. And, to use the new features such as time machine, etc... Does anyone know or have done this before? Please help advise.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iBook G3 (Dual USB) can run Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), but cannot run the newest Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Time Machine is a feature of Leopard, so is not available for the iBook.
I'm not sure how well syncing works between the two OSes, since I don't sync my computers. You can access one from the other, however. I access my eMac (in OS 9.2.2) from my MacBook (in OS 10.4.10), both saving files to the eMac and retrieving files from it.

  • Lion compatibility with iMac ?

I have the iMac 4.1- intel core duo 2Ghz , 2 GbRam; can I run Lion ? troublefree ? only Lion will work with iCloud, MobileMe will be gone within months; so unless my'07 iMac will run Lion , I will be forced to buy a current iMac if I want to provide linkage to my "new" ('10) MacBook. Is this a case of progress leaving those behind who funded the progress ?

Sorry, Lion will not run on an Intel core duo system. You need an Intel core 2 duo or later system.  Lion requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

  • Compatibility with iMacs

I have two iMacs and I wonder whether they are compatible with FCP X.
    - one with ATI Radeon HD 2600, 32-bit
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    - one with ATI Radeon HD 5670, 32-bit
      3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
    Thanks for advice.

When you press the purchase button in MacAppStore a system requirements check is initiated. In other words : If your machine is not capable, MAS will tell you so and will not let you buy it.
But in any case to answer the question : The Ati 5xxx models have OpenCL and are suitable for FC X.

  • Keyboard compatibility with iMac

I am looking to buy a new iMac, and wondering which keyboard to get. I would like to go wireless, but don't want to give up the numeric keypad that the current wireless keyboard would entail.
I already have a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard which I got with my first generation iMac G5. Would it be possible to use this keyboard and the mighty mouse with the current versions of iMac? And what (if anything) would I give up if I did this?

I don't see why should not work - I'm still using a third party (Macally) keyboard I got about 6 or 7 years ago. In my case, some of the programmable F-key functions can't be set because Macally no longer issues the necessary updated driver/software, but the keyboard works just fine. From what I've learned; when you're using a keyboard that is not issued with the particular Mac, use the one in the box to set it up. After setup, simply plug in (or pair) the keyboard you want to use. When I did that, I was prompted to press certain keys in order for the Mac to "recognize" it; after that, no problems whatsoever.

  • Software Labeled Macbook compatable with iMac G5?

I recently purchased a used iMac G5 ppc and it works great! I Love it...but I just noticed that the software package I recieved with it is labeled Macbook. It should still work on the iMac right?
    Just curious. Thanks

Shouldn't that be 3 flavours? PPC, Universal and Intel Only.

You are worrying about this way too much, simply connect the iMac using the supplied USB cable that comes with the UPS. Then check the Energy Saver settings in System Preferences and you will see the UPS and be able to control it.

    Nevermind, I got it working.
I ended up extracting the new vob within MPEG Streamclip, which gave me an m2v and an aiff audio. I multiplexed those two back together in FFMpegX which gave me a complete VIDEO_TS folder with BUP and IFO files I needed.

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?  What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible?  Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense?  I have an Epson R2000 printer.  Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion?  It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Before upgrading to Lion be sure to read this link:

    Adobe lists these requirements:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine.

I have an iMac with 10.4.11 and a Mac Air 10.6.7. Will the Extreme be compatable with the 10.4.11?

10.4.11  Macs will have Kernel Panics when trying to use Dual Band Airport Extreme Base Station.  There are a few forums here dealing with it.  I just purchased an Airport Extreme Base Station and spent two days now figuring out why the old iMac G5 running 10.4.11 (Tiger) was Kernel Panicing.  There is a way that I am testing now that seems to be working.  I will post the link in a minute when I find it. Other solution is to upgrade to 10.5 .

Aug 22, 2010 2:09 PM (in response to Acin)
Greetings... I have just found a resolution to this problem, at lease if you're using one of the newer Dual Band Airport Extreme base stations. This fix was provided by an AppleCare representative named Rebecca, and I am deeply in her debt. To review: MY PROBLEM - After installing a new Dual Band Airport Extreme in July 2010, I began to have frequent kernel panics with my older laptops running Tiger (10.4.11). My newer Intel/Leopard MacBook Pro ran fine with the new base station, but these older Power PC Macs with Tiger just crashed again and again. Pulling the Airport Card was the only fix. I tried every conceivable software and network fix; nothing helped. THE SOLUTION - The AppleCare rep talked me through this, but I'm pretty sure this was the procedure. Please note that I cannot guarantee that I have not forgotten a step! But I am fairly sure this is it. (If an Apple specialist is reading, please check this!) Keep in mind, this will only work if you have a dual-band Airport base station. I performed this on a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.4, with Airport Utility version 5.5.1 and firmware 7.5. 1. Launch Airport Utility.
    2. With the dual-band base station selected, click Manual Setup.
    3. Click the Wireless tab.
    4. Click the "Wireless Network Options" button near the bottom.
    5. Check the box that says "5 GHz Network," then enter a new network name in the Name field. (Your existing network name appears there now. Just delete it and type a new one.)
    6. Click Done. That dialogue will close.
    7. Now click Update. The Airport base station will now take about a minute to reboot. Here's what happens when you perform these steps... The utility changes your existing Airport network to 2.5 Ghz, and then creates a new 5 Ghz network with the new name. (It will apply the same password to both.) You will use the 5 Ghz network, the new name, for any new wireless computers using Leopard or newer OS. You will use the 2.5 Ghz network (bearing the original network name) for the older laptops running Tiger. This fix worked immediately, no problems. The issue is that Tiger does not perform well with 5 Ghz networks, and this causes the kernel panics. I now have two old G4 laptops running Tiger, both using my new Airport base station with the 2.5 Ghz network and running perfectly. At the same time, my new machine is using the 5 Ghz network at the same time. It seems quite stable. Good luck, and I hope this info is useful.

  • Are there any known compatibility issues with iMac and Google Chrome?

Does anyone know of any compatibility issues with iMac and Google chrome. A Facebook friend who is a photographer posted recently that Chrome had ruined his iMac. He stead that it ran an update on itself that made safari and chrome unusable - slow running overall. In the end he had to reinstall his OS.
Is anyone aware of this and should I un-install Chrome off my Mac?
    Thanks,
    S.

There is nothing official but your post will attract a variety of personal experiences.   I once loaded Chrome and found myself with the dreaded MacKeeper malware, loads of pop ups and conflicts with my system.   Part of the problem is the huge range of add ons you are tempted to  take on, many of which are not as strictly tested as Apple extensions.   I would say, unless you have a specific reason, leave it alone.   The best browser is Firefox and for Macs, Safari is OK.
