Press enter puts column break instead of line break in

does anyone know why pressing enter puts column break instead of line break in - I loaded InDesign on my Windows 8 notebook?

Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts... and make a new set.
Change the Product Area dropdown to Type and Tables, then scroll down the list to Insert Break Character: Paragraph Break and then put your cursor in the new shortcut box. Press the Enter key on the numpad and change the context to Text. You'll get a warning that the shortcut is already assigned below the shortcut field, but just click the assign button.
If you want a new shortcut for the column break, scroll back up to that one, then type in a new shortcut. You can use the ctrl, alt and shift modifier keys if you like, along with anything other than a key on the numpad.

  • How can you enter a line-break when using a Bluetooth Keyboard or onscreen Keyboard?

    In Pages & Keynote the only way to force a line break I have found is to put your finger at the end of a line until the select/insert option appears and then selecting insert, then select line break.
    This is frustratingly slow when typing a presentation or document so I bought a Logitech Ultrathin Bluetooth keyboard assuming that would have the Shift+Enter shortcut to make a line break. It doesn't, nor can I find any key combination that does, it's always a new paragraph, or nothing happens.
    I have an Ipad3,  IOS 6.1.3. I've spoken to Logitech support - they said talk to Apple iOS support, I spoke with a chap at IOS support who didn't know what a line break was, didn't know shift+enter on a PC made a line break so didn't understand my question and ended the call.
    Anyone know how to create the shortcut as an alternative to the onscreen slow way?

    Yes

  • How can I create a line break in pages for iPad?

    On the Mac you can hold the shift key while pressing the return key to creat a line break. Only pressing the return key will creat a new paragraph of course.
    On the iPad you only can creat paragraphs. Pressing the shif key does not change that.
    Does anybody know how to force a linebrek on the pages app for iPad?

    Tap and hold where you wish to insert the line break. Select Insert from the pop up menu, then Line break.

  • How to avoid starting a page with line breaks?

    Hello. I've just started to refine my Master's thesis and some of the topics moved up and down as I edited their contents. The problem is that in some cases the topic breaks right after the title, and the rest of the contents just move away to another page. Is there any way to avoid starting a page with line breaks or broken topics?

    At the end of your title, you didn't inserted a line break but a paragraph break (carriage return).
    Acivate the mode "Show hidden characters"
    Select the carriage return (paragraph break)
    Delete it
    Press Shift + return to insert a true line break.
    It may be useful to apply that several times if you inserted several carriage returns between the title and the first filled line.

  • Document addition on pressing Enter Key

    Dear all,
    I want to know whether it is possible to restrict document addition by pressing Enter Key at first time.
    What i want is if user press enter key for first time to add document the system should generate message as generated in Invoice  so that document is added after message.
    This is because many users are use to legacy system where they regularly press enter which creats error in new system.
    Is it possible ..??
    swap

    There is an add-on called B1UP.
    It has so many cool features.
    When you press enter it takes you to the line level and does not add the document.
    Thanks,

  • Strange line breaks in Apple Mail

    OK, first of all, I'm not talking about quoted text (f=f or format=flowed), at least I don't "think* I am.
    I keep encountering strange, unpredictable extra line breaks - or at other times the lack thereof - when composing email. I can't see a pattern to it, very frustrating, so I think the problem only occurs when I reply to or forward someone else's email, not starting fresh.
    When I reply to an email - and even if I Select All text and remove all quoting (Option-Command-' as many times as necessary), I often see linespacing too tall between some lines. Even if I concatenate the two sentences and enter my own carriage return, there still is too much space between the lines. Then after I send the email and look at the message from my Sent box, there is no line break whatsoever where I thought I forced one. Or other times there are multiple linebreaks. Aaarrgghh!
    So my workaround has been to copy & paste my bodytext into Apple TextEdit, then turn right around and copy it from there and paste it into a brand new email message. (If I delete all the text from my original email reply and paste it there, sometimes the weird line breaks still occur.)
    It doesn't seem to matter whether I change my offending email reply or forward message from Rich Text to Plain Text; the problem still occurs.
    Is there some Mail preference setting I can change to avoid this convoluted and infuriating procedure?

    Bump.
    Are these phantom extra line breaks and vanishing line breaks not occurring to anyone else?
    In Mail Preferences > Composing > Responding > Quote the text of the original message
    ...I tried disabling (unchecking) it, but it doesn't make much difference. Again, the problems occur in the body of a
    Message > Reply
    ...not a newly-created message. I've even pasted the body text into TextWrangler and done a "Zap Gremlins" and "Remove Line Breaks," but after I paste it back into Mail and reset my line breaks like I want, I still get extra and/or removed line endings when I review my sent message.

  • Line breaks in text editor

    Hi,
    I am facing the problem that when I read the content of the
    texteditor, store it in a javascript variable, and then write it
    again into the editor area, all line breaks (not html line breaks,
    just the line breaks for the code structure) are gone.
    For Example if the content of the Editor is the following:
    Test line 1
    Test line 5
    If I know call my function the value of the texteditor will
    be somethign like: "Test line1 Test line 5"
    I tried finding the linebreaks and replacing them (either \n,
    \r or \n\r) but had no success in doing that.
    My code of the function:
    var theDom=dw.getDocumentDOM();
    var temp = theDom.documentElement.outerHTML;
    theDom.documentElement.outerHTML="";
    theDom.documentElement.outerHTML=temp;
    So I assume Javascript and dw are using different formats,
    but I cant find much information about whats being used.
    Any help appreicated!
    Best,
    David

    Hi Brent,
    Use CHR(10) in text editor for a new line. for example(  'SAP' & CHR(10) & 'Visual' & CHR(10) & 'Composer') will display like,
    SAP
    Visual
    Composer
    Hope it helps....

  • Pressing Enter inserts new line break instead of "executing" command

    I have noticed a rather strange behavior on my new TPT2. This occurs ONLY when I am using the Windows 8 touch keyboard in the "Metro" environment.
    Whenever I press the Enter key on said keyboard (for example when sending an instant message on Skype), the keyboard inserts a new line in the text box instead of acting like a "normal" Enter key and execute the default command (send the message in this example).
    I have connected an external keyboard and this problem does not show up. Everything works as expected. I also brought up the regular on-screen keyboard (launched from the Ease of Access menu) and it works the way it should. The problem is only with the Metro touch keyboard.
    It seems that for some reason, the Metro touch keyboard interprets the Enter key pressing as "insert a line break".
    Does anyone know how to fix this? It is extremely annoying.

    Just checked that, you are right, Photoshop doesn't recognize Shift-Enter as a line break and treat it as a Return which is a problem with paragraph formatting. Obviously a bug.
    Good news workaround is that it recognizes the line break character if you paste it from another program like Microsoft Word. If you don't have a program that allows you to copy just that character and use paste instead of Shift-Return, you have to type your entire text in some other program and copy paste to Photoshop.

  • How can i select the next column instead of next row when press enter key

    I need to know how can i select the next column instead of next row when i press the enter key.By default ,when i press enter key the next row is selected and the column remain unchanged but I wants opposite that is the row should remain unchanged but column index will changed.
    Thanks to all.

    Well, the right arrow key will already move you to the next column, so the easiest way to do this is to modify the InputMap to have the Enter key invoke the same Action as the right arrow key.
    You can search the forum for my "Table Actions" (without the space) example that will show you how to do this.

  • Convert rows to columns and put line break in between using t-sql

    Hi,
    I have a table with 5 columns..and my source data looks like this..
    RecordID  ID    Display          AddressType   EmailAddress
        1           1      GeneratedBy       From
    [email protected]
        1           1      ReceivedBy         To
    [email protected]
        1           1      ReceivedBy         To
    [email protected]
        2           1

    [email protected]
        3           1      GeneratedBy       From          [email protected]
        3           1      ReceivedBy         To
    [email protected]
    I need  t-sql to show output as..
    RecordID   ID    FullDisplay
       1       1     GeneratedBy  From -
    [email protected]  < CHAR(13) - Need Line Break here so that it goes to 2nd line>

                      ReceivedBy  To   -
    [email protected]
    Display field will have 3 values - "GeneratedBy" , "ReceivedBy"  or Null
    AddresType field will have  3 values - "From" , "To" and Null.
    In the above example, Those 7 records belongs to ID=1.
    Whenever RecordID is same I want to show everything in one line with line breaks in between.
    In the above example RecordID=1 has 3 rows, display it as 1 row. But Whenever 'ReceivedBy' is there for same recordID put a line break before "ReceivedBy"

  • RE: PRESSING ENTER KEY TO MOVE TO A NEW LINE INSTEAD OF SENDING TEXT MESSAGE ON Q5

    I'd rather use the enter key to move to a new line than to send message. I previously used this on curve 9300 and I'm frustrated right now I'm unable to figure how to move to the next line on this Q5. I thought the Q5 will be an improvement on the curve. I'll will be disappointed if there is no way about this. Can somebody help please?
    Solved!

    Hi curio
    From Blackberry Hub, tap three dots at bottom right > Setting > Text Messages > Use enter key to send > OFF. It will make a new line if you press enter key.

  • How to handle line break embeded inside CSV column

    Hi there,
    I am under the pressure to make it work. I already put this question on APEX forum, but on second thought, I think it relates more to PL/SQL rather than APEX since APEX 4.1 already have utility to handle CSV Upload.
    If you read it already in APEX forum, please ignore.
    I am sorry for that. Thanks for reading.
    I need to develop an app that allows user to upload CSV file to a interface table.
    The APEX version at my workplace is 4.0.2.
    I used the code from
    http://dbswh.webhop.net/htmldb/f?p=BLOG:READ:0::::ARTICLE:11000346061523
    It all works well till recently I find out
    If a column in a CSV file cotain a line break (or new line) e.g. (The tester copy and paste this text which has line break into a column in a spreadsheet)
    This is the first sentence.
    This is the second sentence.
    It will break the “This is the second sentence”. To a new column.
    The contents of the CSV viewed in Notepad look as below
    Assessment Date,Scheduled Date,Assessment Provider,Assessor Name,Court,First Name,Middle Name,Last Name,PRN Person Record Number,NHI Number,Defendant Attended Y/N,Is Dependent Y/N,Notes,Primary Ethnicity,"Ethnicity Other, please specify",Gender,Currently in Treatment Y/N,Substance of Concern 5,Other Substance Specified
    22/09/2012,,Provider Co Name,Warren Edgley,Wellington,,,Salty,2545554,dgsdf,ergerg,,"This is the first sentence.
    This is the second sentence.",Japanese,,Female,b,,
    Here is the code from the CSV UTIL, please help me to find out how can I replace the line break to a space so that the uploading process is correct.

    I want to find out how can replace these line break inside a column to a space.
    If any one has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Yes, exactly. That piece of code believes all CHR(10) occurences are record delimiters.
    It is not smart enough to recognize that a CHR(10) within quotation marks are part of the data.
    Optimally a solution should keep the CHR(10) rather than replacing with spaces, but that will be a bigger rewrite of the UTL_CSV code ;-)
    If you are happy with replacing with spaces, a "simple" solution could be something like:
    Declare a boolean variable in upload procedure:
    v_within_text_column   boolean := false;And use it like this:
          WHILE (v_position <= v_clob_len + 1)
          LOOP
             v_char := DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR (v_clob_data, c_chunk_len, v_position);
             IF v_char = '"' THEN
               v_within_text_column := NOT v_within_text_column;
             ELSIF v_char = CHR(10) AND v_within_text_column THEN
               v_char := ' ';
             END IF;
             v_line := v_line || v_char;
             v_position := v_position + c_chunk_len;
             -- When the whole line is retrieved and not end of file or end of file
             IF v_char = CHR (10) AND v_position < v_clob_len OR v_position = v_clob_len + 1
             THEN
               v_within_text_column := false; -- To be safe always set this on "true" linebreaks
    {code}
    +(This is untested code just written here in the text editor.)+
    It should work by toggling a flag whether you are "within" the quotes or not and then replacing CHR(10) with a space if you are within a text column.
    This way we avoid having to go through the clob more than once (it is enough that this code walks the clob one character at a time...)
    It will not handle if the clob contains situations like:
    {code}
    abc,123,"This is a text with a quote from a man who said \"To Be,
    or Not To Be\" some hundred years ago",123,xyz
    {code}
    Escaped quotes would need separate attention ;-)

  • CS5/win: line break instead of paragraph?

    Hello,
    how can I insert just a line break and not a new paragraph?
    Shift-Enter as it works in **all other** programs do not work.
    Thanks
    Carlos

    Just checked that, you are right, Photoshop doesn't recognize Shift-Enter as a line break and treat it as a Return which is a problem with paragraph formatting. Obviously a bug.
    Good news workaround is that it recognizes the line break character if you paste it from another program like Microsoft Word. If you don't have a program that allows you to copy just that character and use paste instead of Shift-Return, you have to type your entire text in some other program and copy paste to Photoshop.

    Does it happen when you reply to an email? If so, it might be that there's content in the original email (like an image or something similar) that overflows the window content, therefore the Mail app, when you hit the border, follows the content below instead of going on a new line. You might wanna try that.
    Also: Please do not post the whole question in the question title.
