"Press Esc to boot..." countdown

First time post, so let me say hi to you all!
This may sound like a bit of a simple question...
As my signature says I have a MSI P45 Neo3-F motherboard. I'm really happy with it, but I have one small niggling problem (if you can call it a problem)...
Upon boot up and after the tests etc. the system halts (on the screen which displays the Disks/PCI slot information table) on a countdown timer (from 8 seconds I think) with the message, "Press <Esc> to boot...". I can either wait till 0 or press escape and the computer boots as normal.
So what I'd like to know, is how to get rid of this countdown "Press <Esc> to boot...". Or if I cannot, could anyone at least tell me the purpose of it? It's not really a problem, I'd just like to get rid of it if possible. I've already tried enabling and disabling the "Quick boot" option in the BIOS to no avail. I've included my system specification in my signature, if any more info is need just say
Any help with the "problem" would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Rich

Ok, I've been an absolute numpty!
I went to check the boot sequence in the BIOS (which is HDD first btw), and noticed "Quick boot" was disabled!
I swear I changed this yesterday... I suppose I just must not have saved the changes! My only excuse can be that I was tired :-/
Cheers for your help though guys

  • Laptop shows "press esc key for startup menu". Wont start up normally?

    Hi,
    I have an hp pavillion g6 laptop (Product QE05UA#ABA, Model: g6-1c35dx)
    . For a while its been causing problems, it's been slow, showing viruses, and now it wont start up.
    I left it on sleep mode last night, once i opened it up today it was turned off. I figured it lost battery which usually doesnt happen, but I turned it on and it shows a blinking screen that comes on and then turns black, over and over. the blinking screen shows "press esc key for startup menu".
    Also, the caps lock key blinks once when that screen comes on.
    When I  push "esc" it shows this:
    F1 system info
    F2 system diagnostics
    F9 boot device options
    F10 bios setup
    F11 system recovery
    Enter- continue startup
    I've tried them all, including some tests in "bios setup"
    Dont know much about computers, and this is one that i need so help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Hp222 ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g6-1c35dx Notebook and issues with starting.
    Try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. The document also gives you information on what to do if Windows does not start normally.
    When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
    Thanks.

  • How to permanently disable this message: "Press Esc to exit full screen." (by Adobe Flash Player) in Mac's Safari Browser?

    Hello everyone,
    I have been searching for sometime (without any success) for a solution to permanently remove this annoying message: "Press Esc to exit full screen."
    Whenever I go to full screen mode, watching any video on YouTube, BBC, CNN (or many other websites which use Adobe Flash Player for streaming video) I have to bare seeing this message for several seconds until it fades away. Seeing this message once or twice would have been okay, but as we all watch many videos on a daily basis on internet, after weeks, months and now years seeing this message over and over again many times every day, it becomes very annoying, and I find myself rewinding many videos to their beginning after this message fades away to be able to watch it from the beginning without anything obstructing it!
    Does anyone know how to "permanently" disable this message from appearing?
    I am using the latest version of Safari 6.0 on the latest version of OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8.1), and have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Plug-in version 11.4.402.265) installed on my new MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display.
    Thanks,
    Ally

    Thanks Carolyn,
    I am attaching a screenshot here for you to see that this setting was already set to what you suggested. I didn't need to change it as it was like this even before I post this message.
    So the problem still presists and unfortunately your suggestion is not a solution to this probelm.
    Last night I did more reseach and found a discussion in Adobe website, it seems a lot of other people have the same issue, and even started a discussion in Adobe website about it. But unfortunately Adobe refuses to address it and enable the end user at least to have an option to turn this message off from displaying permanently on his/her computer.
    I am writing down the url links for the two posts regarding this issue on Adobe's website:
    Link #1: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/921270
    Link #2: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3058752
    Hopefully more people will get involved and ultimately we will either get Adobe's attention, or someone will find a "hack" and post it here for all of us. I have found some suggested "hacks" for Windows environment (you can simply google it, I am sure you will find them too). But so far I haven't seen anything for Mac's Safari browser.
    Cheers,

  • Bridge crashes when pressing Esc in slideshow

    I have recently installed CS4 64bit on a new machine (i7-860, 2.8GHz, 8GB DDR3 memory, Sapphire HD5570 1GB DDR3 GPU). All drivers are up to date and I updated CS4 on installation. A couple of times in the last few days a strange thing has happened when pressing Esc to end a slideshow in Bridge - the screen gets trapped in a continuous flicker and Bridge becomes unresponsive. The only way to stop the process is to use Task Manager to close Bridge. I have never encountered this when I was using the 32bit version on my previous machine (which had less memory and a slower GPU). I would be grateful if someone could explain why this is happening or how I can prevent it from happening in the future.
    thanks
    Steve

    Hi Curt
    I checked the preferences in Bridge and Use Software Rendering is greyed out (although it is ticked). I found that if I scroll to the end of the slideshow I am able to exit slideshow by pressing Esc. I'm pretty sure the card is OK as it is working for all other applications (there's no onboard GPU on the i7 CPU). As I said in my original post the problem is intermitent, but a bit irritating nonetheless.

  • "Contacting the server for information. Press ESC to cancel." in Excel when opening

    I havea user that when she open an Excel file that is older format 97-2003 it just says "Contacting the server for information. Press ESC to cancel." in the status bar then it hangs.  If she press esc about 20 times she get to see the
    document but then Excel just hangs and is unresponsive. I dont know if the documents have some connection to template but the user says they dont. Is there any way to disable this behavior ?
    I have searched everywhere for a solution but everything is about Word or Outlook and none of those can be applied to Excel.

    We had the same issue, however counting for all Office applications including Access.
    Thus, something told me this couldn't be application specific, which ruled out the dozens of suggestions you can browse to solve this issue, including removing of printer drivers, Share Point access (we have no SP running), plug-ins, malformed normal.dot,
    wrong Registry entries, etc. Antivirus and firewall had also temporarily been disabled with no change.
    Also, network shares were marked as "safe" and included as trusted locations.
    What pointed to the solution was this:
    1. When a trusted location was added in, say, Word, the path, say, T:\Documents was automatically changed to the shared path of our DFS file servers:
    \\ourdomain.local\data\department\data\document
    2. When I logged in with my Domain Admin account, the issue did not exist.
    Thus, it had to do with permissions.
    Users had full rights to the network share, here T:\Documents.
    They also had read/write rights to the DFS _share_. However, they had no Active Directory rights to the root of DFS, \\ourdomain.local
    Adding Domain Users with browse and read rights to
    \\ourdomain.local solved the issue at once.

  • "Press esc to exit full screen mode" stays on screen, wont disappear, I have to refresh page many times

    Windows 7
    using firefox
    adobe flash player 16.0.0.305
    I have tried many things and with this new computer build I did not want to try any of the 3rd party fixes for this issue. I see a ton of posts regarding this issue some referring to the problem as the creator of the game or video, some referring to Why is this still an issue why hasn't this been fixed its been years.....
    So I am starting a new discussion as I cant find any relevant in time fixes for my issue all I see is over two years old with no real fixes for the issue. So I hope I am just missing it.
    Anyways here is the issue I would love to just disable it make it go away entirely. I know I need to press esc to exit full screen mode. Most of the time it does disappear and that would be fine too but while I am watching hulu videos in my queue and escaping between full screen mode and normal mode to add next show to queue and then going to next show in queue sometimes I have to refresh the page to make the bubble disappear.
    Is there anything I can do? and I quote many users before me in stating "Why is this stilll an issue?"

    Hmmm lets see well in reply to your answer and comments. I only use firefox. I wrote an app about 6 months which without any user intervention could really mess up chrome. I could download passwords from chrome unencrypted so I do not use chrome I avoid it like the plaugue. Internet Explorer kind of the same issue but in reverse seems to be pretty secure but huge and klunky. So I only use firefox. I just refreshed it which fixed an issue I was having with a sign on issue with swagbucks ext add on not remembering who I am and so on. I will see if this has any effect.
    To continue on this issue though if you know hulu at all. If I pick the next show I want to watch manually, which would technically load a new web page as a "refresh" It always disappears, However if I use the queue option or auto watch mode I really don't know how to properly discribe this. If I just let it finish a show and it automatically picks the next show. Then I assume that flash player programming is causing the web page change and so somehow yes the webpage changes but the "refresh" does not occur or inother words the flash player keeps running doesn't get refreshed and over time several things occure. If i watch about 5 shows in this automated matter flash starts to really eat up my memory and then the esc message starts to not disappear.
    Also randomly I can not tell which ads cause this of course, I would love to be able to give you or hulu more info but There is an add that gets ready to play during a show. This add causes my antivirus to throw a fit and blocks it, then flash player crashes I would assume because of the failure to load the add and play it.
    I understand your description of why it is the way it is and that makes since. But for us wire cutters or cable cancelers, I watch tv through online use and for whatever reason flash is the only option. and having to get off my couch and go over to my computer to refresh the webpage and or reload cause of crashes is getting old.

    Please any one can knows let me know the solutions .
    Please any one can give the solutions I can appreciate.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Dear Harbs & Peter Kahrel
    Many thanks for this great replies.
    "I should try running scripts from the palette" - Peter Kahrel.
    I'm also tried so many times, but the script is stopped when I press [Interupt] the "Esc" KEY Button.
    One of my friend suggested "TSR" Programming to use comment the "ESC" KEY button action, after that running the ESTK Script then finally activate the "ESC" KEY button action. [Both STOP and START the "ESC" KEY Button action though create the "TSR" programming]
    1. Is it possible to Stop & Start the "ESC" KEY Button create through TSR Programming?
    2.  TSR Program we can use to ESTK script - is it possible?.
    I dont know what exactly the "Esc" Button is doing the operation. But the same time "Esc" Button is equal to "Cancel" button functionality - Java script Reference Guide mentioned.
    So what my understand in this ESTK - script is "ESC" button means "Cancel" button... I'm I right ? or else...
    Many thanks once again for the favour replies and pelase Mr. Harbs and Mr.Perter Kahrel let me know some more informations regarding this issue.
    I expect the detailed information regarding this issue, Please.
    Thanks & Regards

  • How to get event press ESC when plugin's GUI is flashUI

    Hi all
    I implement my plugin use GUI is FlashUI (CSExentersion suite).
    when I pressed ESC. My GUI close imidately.
    I want to check whe n ESC press. But I can't get event pressed key for ESC
    I think that my GUI close from Illustrator. But I don't know how to get event press ESC.
    Thank for your help.

    Put a trace() to print the keyCode into the stage's keydown handler and run your extension in debug mode of flash builder, you can check whether ESC is pressed or not.
    However, I don't know how to prevent extension from closing neither.

  • Have to press keys upon boot

    I have to press keys upon booting on some steps so that the booting process would go further (the same with shutdown). If I don't press some keys, the process will just stay there.
    It doesn't help to switch between kdb/mouse and evdev drivers. I don't understand this thing.

    Ok, I'll try to explain a bit better . When booting Arch we of course get the nice log of what's going on (as defined in rc.sysinit) but in some steps the proces just... stops. And no matter how crazy it sounds, when I press some keys like 2 or 3 times, the booting process... continues! The same thing happens upon shutdown. We waited like (my dad's PC) 20 seconds and nothing happened until we hit some keys a few times. It was friggin' embarassing and hilarious at the same time when the task was to change from unstable Ubuntu to stable Arch.

    Cool, will check this out as soon as possible. It will be the next saturday if my dad is willing to try the move of Ubuntu -> Arch again .

  • ParentDialog disposing on pressing ESC key on JOptionPane????????

    I am using a JDialog which disposes on pressing ESC keu, i am also using JOptionPane for
    popping up some messages from this dialog. Problem is when i use the ESC key for disposing
    JOptionPane my dialog is also getting disposed. I am creating dialog like
    public MyDialog(Frame rootFrame)
    super( rootFrame,true );
    addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter()
    public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e)
    if ( e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_ESCAPE)
    dispose();
    I am not getting the problem. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi guys,
    Perhaps you should try using e.consume() in your event handler...
    Another way is to let the parent frame know, in its event handler, which is the source object from where the event originated.
    something like:
       // Before showing the dialog
       yourDialog.setName("yourDialog");
       yourDialog.setVisible(true);
       // in the frame's event handler
       public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e) {
          if (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_ESCAPE)
                Component compsource = (Component)e.getSource();
                String compname = compsource.getName();
                if (compname.equals("yourDialog")) {
                   ((Dialog)compsource).dispose();
       } I hope these few ideas will help!
    Regards.

  • Press F1 to boot

    Hello, After getting a new (gamer) graphics card I got a problem with my system (HP Workstation Z400). More precisely the chassis fan RPM increased significantly from ~1000 to ~2200 RPM. It is definitely due to the new graphics card as it goes down again when i plugin my old office card instead. This is strange, but the mainboard seems detect this card and find it necessary to increase chassis fan RPM.(?) The increased RPM is permanent and from startup, so it is not due to a high temperature detection. Well, this fan is way too loud for me now and i decided to remove its connector which resulted in the boot message "Error 512 - rear chassis fan not detected" forcing me to press F1 to boot. Unfortunately there is no way to disable this F1 prompt in the BIOS.  So my question is: Would it be possible if you add the features to disable F1 prompt to the BIOS, i.e., a new BIOS update.My mainboard is Model 0b4c and BIOS version is v03.57 (the latest).  Stefan

    What is the model name of the new graphics card? It looks like the new card requires higher power (watts) and it's not qualified on this platform. This system does not have the option to disable F1 prompt. The F1 prompt indicates, this may be critical on operation of the system. Removing the rear fan connector is not recommended because this will seriously impact the components inside of the chassis. This systems is out of warranty and out of support life as well. You can use the system without the rear fan at your own risk.
