I press play on my ipod and the song comes up but it doesn't start. I have tried different songs. I only had the ipod since Xmas.

same goes for me. I tried resetting the iPod and restoring it, but to no avail. I'll try other three things that I hadn`t noticed: reset my computer, try another USB port and then reinstall iPod + iTunes and reboot my computer.
try it. maybe that works for both of us. hope so.

When adding music to iTunes, you can set it to either make a local copy of the file, or simply point to the original location of the file (for example, on an external hard drive). If it is set to do the latter, it will not be able to play or transfer those files when the external hard drive is not plugged in. You may find the following article helpful:

They play on my iphone and from the itunes library but not from my ipod touch.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

Thanks for this post. It corrected my similar issue. Note that you need to exit from/re-enter iTunes after deleting the song from your Purchased list.

Seriously, it is most likely just a download problem. You can delete the bad copy from your library, and then download a fresh copy at no cost by following this guide:

here's the thing: I'm trying to desperately finish my homework and I need to download a song so the teacher can play it in class. So all the songs on my nano aren't good. You really needed to post this in the Nano forum. Make sure all of your software (iTunes/Quicktime) is up to date. You didn't post the type of computer you have or the OS so I can't help there.
Also, start iTunes, go to the Store menu on top, and Deauthorize your computer. After you do this, try to play the song on your computer. When prompted enter your Apple ID and password. Resync the song to your iPod.

Hello, I too had this same problem. I was very lazy about going through EACH song trying to select & fish for it in a folder (I have a lot of folders total of 1,979 songs). I called Apple & they told me to go to my iTunes go to FILE scroll down then ADD FOLDER.. Since everything was just out of place & didn't know where to even begin I basically deleted ALL songs from my LIBRARY & then added each folder. It literally took me less than 20 minutes. Dont worry if you have your songs labeled a certain way (Artist, name of song, genre in iTunes) everything will go back to normal. Hope this helps as it helped me! I put it aside for 2-3 years! I have downloaded songs and when I play them they stop playing. I have to hit the sleep/wake button for the ipod to come on and hit play, then the song will continue playing where it left off

Why are songs cutting out in the middle and my ipod shutting down?I have to hit the sleep/wake button to turn it back on and hit play again. Then, the songs will play from where it left off.

What does it mean if when i scroll down a page such as facebook and the songs that i play on my iTunes begin to scratch? it is weird, everytime i scroll down it scratches.

it just started recently. it hasn't happened before and the internet i use right now is google crome, so i don't know if that could have an impact on the problem?

Can't delete music on phone and the songs don't show up in iTunes

I've had this problem before and found no solution, so this time I'm going to ask and see if someone else has the same issue. It's not any of the usual problems, so I ended up restoring my phone to an earlier point and it worked, but I don't want to have to do it again.
Okay so the problem I have is there is music in my music app on my phone that doesn't show up in iTunes in the "on my device" section. I listened to music on my phone that I had streamed from the cloud, when you do the "show all music" thing and can play all of your purchased songs. Then when I turn off "show all music" there are random songs that I had streamed but didn't download. I can't swipe left to delete them on my phone, and they don't show up in iTunes as even being on my phone. I can't find a way to erase them. I think they are stored in the "other" section of phone storage because now "other" is larger than it was.
The last time this happened I had to restore my iPhone to a point before this problem occurred and I lost my messages and new contacts and what not. I have a feeling this is not a user fixable problem, but a problem on apple's end. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I was pretty excited with the new iOS 5 but now, i'm starting to get really disappointed.
First, some of my album art work doesn't show anymore..
second, some of my songs don't play or jumps to another song..
I don't know if it's with the iOS 5 or the iTunes 10.5..

I eventually managed to fix mine.
All i did was untick the box saying "convert higher bit rate songs to 128 aac" (because i had it previoulsy ticked) and then synced it and it now plays every song without a problem.
However, if you haven't selected the "convert higher bit rate...." then try it and sync as there is nothing to lose if your ipod isn't playing plus the songs don't sound any different and it takes up less space

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to close and restart iTunes.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
