I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are describing. If the screen appears to be sliding downward (leaving a blank portion at the top), you may be seeing the Reachability feature of iOS 8 on the iPhone 6/6 Plus. It is intended to make it easier to reach elements towards the top of the screen on the larger iPhones, and is activated by a double tap (not press) on the Home button. (1) -Firefox keeps crashing for no reason. (2) -I am offered an update but when I say yes to update, the window shows that my MacBook Pro is trying to connect to the server. If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

I've got the same problem as well. When i connect all i see is "set up your iphone" screen. It worked perfectly fine a couple of weeks back when I last synced but, doesn't sycn anymore.

Have a work Exchange account on your phone? These policies can be enforced by a profile installed on your phone. There is nothing you can do to change this except delete the Exchange account.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.

Downloaded installer just sits in memory and does nothing

iTunes had permission issues and would not start up, I tried to uninstall itunes, and download version 11.0.1,
but upon downloading the installer, it starts up, but it just sits there in memory, and does nothing.
I am using windows 8, and a HP PC with a Intel 6 core processor

I found my problem. The iPad had apparently been synced with a different iTunes library (our family has three). We never intentionally synced it to another library, but when I did the iOS 6 update (from 4.3), I think that I may have been logged into a different ID.
While logged into the 'right' library in iTunes, when I selected the iPad device in the Sidebar (on the left), and then selected "Music" in the button bar along the top, I found that the "Sync Music" box was not checked. I checked that. Then when I hit 'sync', I got a message saying that this iPad is synced to a different library and asking if I wanted to lose that sync and establish the new one. I said 'yes', and now things appear to be syncing.
In my earlier trevails (described in the question), iTunes could easily have warned me that I was logged into one library, but trying to sync with an iPad that was previously synced with a different library. Instead, it silently 'finished' the sync without running it. AWESOME software design!!
I love Apple's device design. I think their software design, which seems to be all tangled up with Digital Rights Management, is too confusing. There needs to be a way to make the model (the mix of multiple libraries and multiple devices) more apparent to the user.
