Pressing PLAY instead of ENTER

Hello,
I created a menu with buttons. On a "normal" stand alone DVD player I can press the PLAY button to start the film, in Apples DVD Player I need to press ENTER in order to activate the button - pressing the PLAY button does not do anything.
Is there a way to create the DVD so Apples DVD Player "understands" PLAY?

It's kinda like Gary said, but different.
The Apple DVD Player, as well as several set top players out there, will map the Play remote key to the "Still Off" User Operation. So, If you're in a Menu or Track with video in motion, the play remote key won't do anything because there's no still; the Apple Player's Play remote key turns into a Pause key, in that case.
But if you're in a still Menu in Apple DVD Player, and you've enabled the Still Off User Operation for the menu (it's 'denied' by default), then pressing the play remote key will launch your button's target.

Good luck. I tried to do this to cue sound effects for a theater, and never found anything. iTunes will definitely *not* do this, nor was I able to find any player that would play one song at a time in a single playlist.
In my case, I ended up using AutoHotkey to tie individual tracks to the keys on an external keypad. This was an excellent solution for my problem, but I don't think AHK runs on Macs.
One workaround is to make a folder, and fill it with *shortcuts* to the songs you want (ie, the actual files). You can change the names to start with numbers to get them in the right order. Then if you double-click on one it will play just that song. You'll still have to double-click on each song.
Might be a good time to learn AppleScript It would also be pretty easy to write a Java app to do this.

When I press play on my iPod the only the thing that happens the songs cycle through the current playlist instead of playing the audio. How do I fix this?

Ever since this morning I synced my ipod to my computer all that happens is the ipod cycles through the songs in the current selected playlist. No audio or anything. All the songs that are in my song libraries and are synced to my ipod properly. I did not disconnect the cable whiile it was syncing. It has been a long time since I synced it. Why is my ipod doing this? This ipod is the current ipod classic with 160 GB. Please help

Thank you, when I meant by I haven't synced with my library in a long time. I meant the day before this morning. So I already synced it and I am not hearing any audio when I press play. Right now I am in front of a mac at my job and I have synced and ejected it from a different computer and it still isn't working. Does this have anything to do with the fact that it might have something to do with my music library at my home computer?

Here is the situation: Menu is created. Button is created and linked to One track.
When simulated and when tested on a standalone DVD player, even when the button is highlighted...PRESSING PLAY does not trigger anything. Instead, I have to press ENTER On controller.
Some people just like pressing Play on Menu.. How does DVDSP deal with this issue? THanks.
I have simple needs! Anyone know to fix this or what settings to adjust?

It's weird: I swore i've played dvds by pressing play at menu. With your help, i tested it out and you're correct. Thanks for the answer!

Play vs. Enter

When authoring a simple one button DVD, it works great if you press enter on your remote to activate the button, but if you press play on your remote you're screwed. Apparently this simple problem has been debated for years in the forums.
When you put your DVD out into the world most people will opt to press play so it amazes me that this has yet to be resolved. You need to have the ability when authoring to make the play button do the smae thing that the enter button does to activate play mode. Has anyone out there solved this yet?

I do inderstand that this is a player issue. Today as a matter of fact, we heard from a client that they had playback problems on their PC. We are an Apple facility. So if you throw in the myriad of playback devices, both hardware and software, and also the varied computer platforms and operating systems it's amazing that the failure rate of a DVD is so low.
I'm talking about a solution that is looking at these variations in playback devices and broadening the responsiveness to more than one command. So that a play command issued from Model X Y or Z device is accepted by the authoring software instead of just accepting the Model X command. Or the ability to author a version specifically for Model X,Y, or Z players. This would mean of course that Adobe would have to be aware of which models do not respond correctly to an Encore command before they would be able to address the discrepancy and maybe that task is just too daunting, but the goal should be universitality to all DVD players.

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop. Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

Strange issue when pausing LONG audiobook--pressing play again changes the

Strange issue when pausing LONG audiobook--pressing play again changes the position within the book--it doesn't start back exactly where it left off.
The audiobook of "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" is between 18 and 19 HOURS long--all as one long track/file.
I've noticed that when I pause while listening and then press play again, it "rewinds" and starts playing portions of the audiobook from about 10 minutes prior--but the time stamp doesn't change. At least this is the time frame from the first "test". Other pauses/plays may result in different time differences.
The first time this happened, I didn't realize what it was doing. I pressed play (from the pause) and I heard a portion that I had already played. I thought that the bookmark just didn't "remember" as it should have, so I scrubbed forward trying to find where I remembered leaving off. If you end up pausing/playing even a couple of times with this happening each time, the portion of the audiobook that you're playing and the time stamp becomes COMPLETELY off! For example, almost an hour into the time stamp was really only about 10-15 minutes into the actual book.
I'm not sure if this makes any sense, but hopefully it does to someone. It's very frustrating to have this happen simply because you had to pause while listening. You have to scrub backwards or forwards each time to find out where you REALLY left off at and the time stamp becomes of no help value since it doesn't change as the playback position moves itself.
I'm sure that this is something happening due to the extreme length of the audio file. That maybe it can't track as precisely as it could with shorter lengths. ???
Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this happen? Any ideas on whether or not there is anything that can be done to prevent this?

problem. It's ironic that we're both having issues
with the SAME audiobook. I haven't had a chance to
listen to Books 1-5 much to see if they have the same
issue or not--I don't remember any on the few parts
that I've played for my nephews.
Yeah, I know! I was shocked to see that. I recently finished HP5 (twice), and NEVER had this issue, but it is a much smaller file size.
I'm thinking that I may try to convert to AAC before
I try the splitting program--in theory, it's easier
to start right back in again when you only have 1
track to find, than when you have dozens/hundreds of
smaller tracks. It's sometimes hard to remember
which track you left off with--even if it's
"bookmarked" within that track.
I dunno anything about AAC, to be honest. Never used it. My plan is to split the MP3 into smaller MP3s by chapter and load them on a playlist. Of course, I will have to label them all nice and pretty. It is a long book, but you could always just load a couple of chapter files at a time. The only thing that I can see that would be kind of a pain about splitting it with the Cool MP3 is searching thru the file for each chapter and setting break points.
My only concern is how much quality I'm losing by
converting from one compressed format--MP3--to
another compressed format AAC.

spoken word instead of music, the change shouldn't be
too noticable. I'm not sure what kind of time frame
it'll require to convert. I'll probably try it with
book 1 first--since it's the smallest.
May depend on the program. The one I got boasts no quality loss. You may wanna scrounge around the download sites and see which one sounds like it has the best features, even if you do just get a free trial version of something. I would definitely read the editor's ratings. I tend to trust that more than the typical end user's. They show how many stars the editor gives a product, and you can click that for the review, or sometimes they have labeled tabs where you can access the review.
As for how long it takes me to rip that particular file and if that actually fixes the scrubbing problem, I will have to let you know tomorrow. WAAAAY past my bedtime!

How to Load Progressive-Download Video just when I press Play?

I have set the Progressive-Download video instead of Streaming-Video (because my webserver provider "aruba.it" doesn't offer
streaming videos), in Flash CS4 Professional, and exported to Dreamweaver CS4.
I have also inserted the HTML code in Dreamweaver CS4 to enable FullScreen Playback of Flash .flv Videos.
Now I have a problem:
- When the webpage loads into Internet Explorer 7, it take much time to load all the videos at same time!
Thus I want this:
- I want that the videos start to load just when I press the Play button, individually, not at same time.
- I don't not want that start the load immediately when the webpage opens in IE7.
- I want that the videos start to load content in the same manner of YouTube videos, just when I press play.
How can I do?

Logic chokes every OTHER time I press play??????

I have a project that is driving me nuts.
When I press play, one of two things will happen:
1) It will play normally.
2) The Logic CPU meters will peg and the playback will stutter like crazy.
The peculiar thing is that it ALTERNATES between #1 and #2 with each press of the play command....
This is particularly frustrating because the project in question is only 10-20 audio tracks of 44.1/24 and yesterday I mixed a song with 89 tracks of 44.1/24 files with NO PROBLEMS.
Both projects were created by importing audio tracks into the same basic template.
Any ideas?

I bought Garritan Jazz which comes with Kontakt. As soon as I started trying to create MIDI tracks with it; Logic would intermittently lock-up/quit/etc when I hit play (space,enter,or whatever).
Needless to say, I don't use Kontakt anymore. Overall Garritan Jazz (JABB) was a disappointment in Logic - the sounds were mediocre and the controls were a tedious waste of time. The only thing interesting is that the Kontakt player has 2 variance knobs that auto-magically add random details to instruments. I was trying to use it on the Drum samples that came with the JABB library; but Kontact kept causing Logic to act-up.

I have tried both uninstalling the software and reinstalling it, I have tried to run the software in safemode, and I have tried to change the Quicktime settings to see if that helps.
Nothing has worked. It always does the same thing, where it freezes the moment I tell it to "play".
I have tried to use my other computer instead, going through the same process and I got the exact same result where it freezes.
Therefore it has to be something to do with the software, because the computers use different graphics cards, yet it responds the same.

Also, I suggest paying close attention to the list of programs that you would need to uninstall, in order, so that you can fully uninstall iTunes and all related components from your computer. If those programs and steps are not followed exactly, you may end up with issues using iTunes.

Download first 25% of video and then rest if user presses play.

I have a site where they insist to have video play on the home page, but now went over bandwidth this last month. Is there any way I can have the video download part way and then if the user presses play the rest of the video downloads? Right now I am using the FLV Playback componet to display the video.

Have you tried using the MovieClipLoader class instead of unloadMovieNum?

Text caption to disapear when press play

I have a video fil on the slide, we want a text box/caption to tell the user press play button(on video) to start it and the text caption fade out when U have pressed play, not automatic fade in and fade out. Is that possible?

Have a couple of questions:
Which version of Captivate do you use?
Is this slide video, or an inserted FLV with its default playbar? From your description I suspect it is an inserted FLV
Has the text caption to disappear completely after fading?
It is possible to apply an effect (like fading out - it will be AlphaFromTo) by advanced action in Captivate 5/5.5. But the action has to be triggered by an interactive object (button, click box) on the slide, and you cannot set the duration of the effect which is really annoying. I could find a workaround by creating a custom effect with the appropriate duration.
Something similar, but less cumbersome is to use an Exit effect, FadedZoomOut. Then you'll not have to bother about the duration at all. This was my work flow:
created a click box and put it on the same location as the play button of the play bar (FLV), but under the FLV on the Timeline (it will still be active, but if you put it on top, the play button will not be active)
created an advanced action with one statement:Apply Effect Text_Caption_1 FadedZoomOut (you can use the ellipsis eventually to have the Initial and Final scale set to the same amount, so that there is no zooming only fading)
attach this advanced action to the click box

It sounds like you are seeing some odd performance issues with Logic Pro X. I recommend these troubleshooting steps specifically from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening:

Verify that your computer meets the system requirements for Logic Pro X

Test using the computer's built-in audio hardware
If you use external audio hardware, try setting Logic Pro X to use the built-in audio hardware on your computer. Choose Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio from the main menu and click the Devices tab. Choose the built in audio hardware from the Input Device and Output Device pop-up menus. If the issue is resolved using built-in audio, refer to the manufacturer of your audio interface.
Start Logic with a different project template
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Logic. If you use a template, damage to the template can cause unexpected results with any project subsequently created from it. To create a completely fresh project choose File > New from Template and select Empty Project in the template selector window. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
Sometimes, issues with the data in a project can be repaired. Open an affected project and open the Project Information window with the Project Information key command. Click Reorganize Memory to attempt to repair the project. When you reorganize memory, the current project is checked for any signs of damage, structural problems, and unused blocks. If any unused blocks are found, you will be able to remove these, and repair the project. Project memory is also reorganized automatically after saving or opening a project.
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.

Reinstall Logic Pro X
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Pro X. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application, then reinstall Logic Pro X. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Pro X. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Pro X.
In the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate the Logic Pro X application and drag it to the trash.
Open the Mac App Store
Click the Purchases button in the Mac App Store toolbar.
Sign in to the Mac App Store using the Apple ID you first used to purchase Logic Pro X.
Look for Logic Pro X in the list of purchased applications in the App Store. If you don't see Logic Pro X in the list, make sure it's not hidden. See Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases for more information.
Click Install to download and install Logic Pro X.
