Pressure Sensitivity not available in CS4

I have a Calcomp DrawingBoard lll with pressure sensitive stylus which works fine in other applications like Painter 11 but loses its pressure capabilities in CS4 (both AI and PS). The stylus behaves like a mouse but in shape dynamics the pen pressure settings show a warning sign and in AI they are grayed out. It performed correctly in CS3.
Any hints?
Thanks
Jon

Photoshop CS4 has had the tablet input re-written or somethign to that effect. The specific tablets it is designed with in mind are by Wacom, so it may be an issue that may not be fixed. What Operating System are you on?

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush pressure sensitivity not working on the Microsoft Surface Pro.

I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro in anticipation of running Photoshop on it.  I installed Photoshop and tried to do some sketches.  I created a new file and started sketching.  I Immediately felt like something was wrong.  I checked my brush settings and saw the pressure sensitivity was not available.  Everytine I tried to turn it on it was marked with an exclamation point.
Does anybody know if Adobe is supporting the new pressure sensitive pen from microsoft, or if there is some sort of setting that I am missing?  I have tried sketchbook pro 2011, and that works amazingly well with the pen.  I hope someone can help me along here, because if this tablet can truely run photoshop, it would be a Game Changer.

Just curious.... has any of you tried the shape dynamics in photoshop and turning on pen pressure?
and in illustrator to modify the size to pressure and variation to maximum? (and of course select that brush preset that you just modified and draw with it using SHIFT+B for blob brush or B for regular brush)
I am also interested in purchasing a Surface pro so please report if this helps.
what I recently discovered in other forums is that Sketchbook Pro works flawlessly in desktop mode. Sketchbook Express in the APP mode doesn't support pressure yet.
there is no official confirmation that the surface pro uses a wacom digitizer, however a few artist friends of mine have gone to the microsoft store... brought their own wacom pens (cintiq 15x pen - older models that works with general tabletpcs) and the pro recognized it. which means that it is a wacom digitizer. it wouldn't make sense if a wacom pen works with a different digitizer board like N-trig.
also read in another forum about adobe using wintab and windows 8 wintab drivers are not there yet.
anyway... I'd be glad to know if this works or not
    thanks!

  • Pressure Option Not Available

I am using a VisTablet with Master Collection on my MacBook Pro and can use pressure sensitive brushes in Photoshop, so I know my tablet works.  However, when I use Illustrator, the only brush options available are Fixed and Random.  How do I get Illustrator to recognize that the pressure option is available?

    usmcc,
This may be a case of corrupted preferences. You may try to delete them holding Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Option+Shift during startup, or try the reversible and more thorough procedure, to Move the folder.

  • CS2 workflow actions not available on CS4

I have updated to CS4 Encore from CS2 and disappointed that my workflow in creating a dvd takes me longer beacause of the following issues.
    ISSUE 1:
In CS2 Encore when you advance to the next chapter mark by using the "Next Chapter" button on the Monitor screen it would highlight the chapter mark that you just advanced to.  Then I would be able to enter a new name for that chapter mark by placing my curser at the chapter mark name and type what I wanted to name it.
In CS4 Encore when I do the same action to advance to the next chapter mark it does not highlight the chapter mark that I just advanced to.  So if I go to change the name of the chapter mark I advanced to I am actually changing the name of the past chapter mark.  In order to change the chapter mark name of the current marker I need to click on that marker in the timeline, then click in the box to change its name.  It takes additional steps to do so not to mention that I am going to end up re-naming chapter marks that did not need to be changed.  Then when I apply them to my menus thay will be linked to the wrong location on the timeline.  I will then need to re-author the whole dvd.
    ISSUE 2:
In CS2 when I have created a menu that I want to use as proceeding menus I would make all action changes to that one menu then copy and paste it back into the project bin changing it to menu 2 and on and on up to maybe 6 menus or so.  All the actions applied to the first menu would copy over to the proceeding menus pasted, such as "button routing" "menu end actions" and changes made to button default numbers.
In CS4 I have tried to copy over a menu but it does not copy over the actions applied.  I have tried the "Save Menu as Template" and that still does not copy over the actions applied to the menu.  That means I have to re-route every button in all my menus when I had expected the copied menu's "button routing" would copy over to each menu.
Any way this can be fixed by Adobe.  Why does this seem like a step backwards to me.
    Thanks,
    Doug

Issue 1: I hadn't really noticed that in CS4 yet, but yeah I agree: it sucks that this is missing.
Issue 2: Have you tried duplicating the menu in the Project panel? (Edit > Duplicate).

  • CS4 Brushes Not Pressure Sensitive with OpenGL Drawing Enabled

    Hi,
Four days into my CS4 experience. Not awful, but not good either.
Running on Vista Business 32bit, Phenom 9550 Quad Core, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 7600 GT.
I just tried my WACOM tablet and the brushes were very slow, missing the start of some strokes and most importantly no pressure sensitivity. I did
a little searching and someone suggested switching off OpenGL and this has
    fixed my problem.
Does anyone else have a similar experience ?
Also, is my 7600 GT card not powerful enough ? When I moved to CS2 from 7,
I had to upgrade my graphics card - which was running just fine with 7.
    Thanks in advance,
    Shahzad

    Hi,
    Thanks for the tip.
As it happens, I also updated both my Wacom and Nvidia drivers
and when I switched OpenGL back on, things were fine. The pressure
sensitivity was back and the lag was gone.
I'll also try playing around with the settings as you suggest.

  • CS4 x64 severe brush lag and no pressure sensitivity

    Hi,
When I use Photoshop CS4 Extended x64, I experience really bad brush lag when drawing. This doesn't happen with the 32-bit version, and unfortunately it seems to make x64 the default version to open everything with (such as Open With and file associations).
I also do not have any pressure sensitivity with the x64, but the 32-bit version is absolutely fine. I'm using a Wacom tablet.
Can anyone explain why it's so bad in the x64 version and any possible way to fix these two problems?
It would be nice to fix this issue so I can actually use the x64 version, however at the minute it would be easier to just use the 32-bit version. Unfortunately I cannot seem to get it to use this instead of the x64 when opening files from Explorer. It's very iritating. I have tried to uninstall the x64 one, but I don't see an option to keep the 32-bit version on.
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, 8800 GT, 4GB RAM, GPU settings all on in CS4.
    Thanks very much!
    Dom

    Thanks for the reply.
It's not an Intuos3. It's a Bamboo. Drivers are latest.
Like I said, everything works fine in 32-bit version. Brush is perfect, pressure sensitivity is great.
x64 it's awful. Start drawing and there's a lag before it actually gets drawn, which means I'm missing loads of brush strokes and it can't keep up (although it's the beginning moment that's causing the most grief). Of course there's no pressure sensitivity either so it's absolutely useless.
I tried the steps you mentioned and there was absolutely no difference. Something is wrong with the x64 version.
I can't be hassled to attempt to figure out what the issue is. I can't be bothered with using the x64 version when the 32-bit one is completely fine - it's not like I'd be getting any advantages from the x64 version anyway. I'd like to be able to just get rid of the x64 one and keep the 32-bit version, or have 32-bit as my default and never have x64 even launch.
Is there any way I can do that?
    Thanks

  • ICC Profiles Not Available in InDesign CS4

    Hello all-
I have a lot of ICC profiles installed on my system (OS X 10.6.2); some are in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ and some are in ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/.
They are not available in InDesign CS4, even though every other app (including Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat) see them just fine.
Is this a know issue/bug with CS4 and Snow Leopard? I don't recall having this issue on my old machine.

    A followup to this issue:
This morning I couldn't launch Illustrator CS4, it kept crashing at launch. Scanning through the OS X crashlog I noticed 511 "Iterative Profile" errors:
    ###  com.apple.ColorSync               0x91e1981d iterateProfilesInDirectory + 1020
I went into my /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder and noticed there was now an alias pointing into Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/, which already contained an alias back to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles to get around the InDesign issue (as described above, which was working fine to this point). This created an infinite loop...
I did not create this new alias... any idea where it might have come from?
(Adobe needs to fix InDesign so it looks in the correct locations for profiles... the user shouldn't have to resort to manipulating aliases to enable profiles that are otherwise in the correct locations, and why do Adobe apps need their own profiles folder anyway????? As with their private Fonts folder, it does nothing but over-complicate matters...)

  • DC CS4 "Bluetooth not available"

I am trying to link to a Nokia E71 in a project in Device Central CS4. In the "New Project" dialog box, I am able to select the phone and the resource file (swf file). However, when I select a new task- "Send to Bluetooth Device" and click the "Search" button to selct the device to link to, I get a "Script Alert" message that says "Bletooth is not available". I also get an error when I select the task "Copy File to...".
I am able to synchronise my laptop and phone and do all sorts of other bluetooth things with them quite successfully. The laptop is a Toshiba Portege M750.
Can anyone tell what is going on or provide a solution?

    Hi,

Error 1612. The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
What is wrong and how do I fix it? I've installed this on my sister's laptop as well, but I've already uninstall it. Could this be the reason why?
    Help appreciated, thanks!

Contact Adobe Technical Support for CS4 installation issues.
The problem has nothing to do with the fact that you already installed the same software on your "sister's laptop as well." And although you have already uninstalled it (and hopefully deactivated it as well), please remember that this software is licensed for a single user! You and your sister cannot somehow share the license.

  • Pressure sensitivity in cs5 (cs4)

Hi, I have Wacom Intuos 4 and I try to use settings for changing opacity by pressure. It's works, but I can't achive 100% opacity. It's always a bit transparent regardless how strong I press the pen. I use last drivers, updates and etc. In driver settings pressure sensitivity sets default. If I change it to more soft it becomes hard to get really low opacity, it's just unable to press the pen so lightly.
So, how I can fix it? In other program (Painter, SAI etc) it's works ok.
    Sorry for my English.

I've had trouble with the pressure settings in Photoshop since I upgraded from CS2 to CS5 last year.
I still have CS2 on my PC, running Vista, and the Intuos 3 pen and tablet work fine in CS2, but not in CS5.
I've trashed preferences, reloaded old and new Wacom drivers on numerous occasions, upgraded Photoshop patches several times. It sometimes seems to fix the problem but it soon returns.
I think this is an Adobe CS5 issue and not a Wacom issue. If you look at the Wacom forum's (earlier posts) on this topic, you can see that several people are reporting the problem since they upgraded to CS5: http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4969&sid=79ace877c54989525cd5fdcde8242c66&start= 20
Please can Adobe look into fixing this if they haven't already?
Please test the pressure pens by using fast strokes (as in painting) since it's worst when used this way.
It is impossible for me to use light strokes without every second one being and huge fat blob and I rely on this application for my work.
    Many thanks.

I am using CS4. Can I open CS6 files? I am receiving "plug-ins not available on your system" messages and I'd like to open anyway but clicking on OK doesn't work.

InDesign CS4 can open .indd, .indt  and .inx files from earlier versions, but not from later. It should, however, be able to open .idml files saved or exported from newer versions, with the understanding that unsupported features will be lost, text will probably reflow due to differences in texts engines between versions, and that the greater the gap between versions the more likely there are to be noticeable differences from the original. You will need to be sure CS4 is at version 7.0.6 to read the .idml.

  • The sensitivity/pressure is not working correctly

The sensitivity/pressure is not working correctly on my ipad 1 with ios4.3.
Keyboard and Drums(especially snare), does not work properly.
Please can this be fixed. Several friends have same issue. Alternatively, please have an option to turn off the 'pressure' feature.

Not sure what to do on the drums, but on the keyboard you can "pinch" the two velocity slider bars together, which fixes the velocity to only one setting. This "pinched pair" can be slid up/down to adjust the single velocity.

  • How to make a pressure sensitive brush in CS3?

    Hi!
Is there someone out there who knows how to make a brush similar to this? I've been trying to figure it out for several hours now, but nothing works!
    Daniel

Sorry but you aren't going to get something that looks like that from a pressure sensitive brush in Illustrator.
The colors and groupings of blocks are too random to be a repeating pattern (a simple one, anyway) and the order is too consistent to be something like a scatter brush. That said, you *can* do this with a brush but it won't be pressure sensitive and it will require a degree of setup.
Start by building a row of blocks. Mine is a simple pattern with a few pieces removed and not terribly interesting looking but hopefully it'll give you the idea of what I mean:
Group everything and then go up to Effect> 3D> Rotate
Set your X, Y, And Perspective parameters to taste. Keep the Z axes (the blue one) at zero:
Go to Object> Expand Appearance You'll notice that Illustrator has put a clipping mask around your squares (transparent rectangle) Delete it.
Take everything you have and drag it over to the brush panel and make a new Art Brush:
Now you can select that brush and paint with it though you'll get better results by stroking a path you've drawn with the pen tool:
A couple of things to keep in mind:
You'll need to consider your ultimate length when creating the brush. Longer or more wavy lines will require more squares. My squares look a little skewed because I didn't bother to make my pattern very long. A longer row will improve the look of this but hopefully my example is enough to give you the idea.
For generating the square colors, you might want to try the random fills script available from James talmage's page and then use live color to tint everything for you.
