Prestaging Content on Pull DP temporarily

Hi,
I've read below in the MS documentation that a Pull DP configured for Prestaged Content does not Pull from a source DP:
The allow prestaged content configuration for a distribution point overrides the pull-distribution point
configuration. A pull-distribution point that is configured for prestaged content waits for the content. It does not pull content from source distribution point, and, like a standard distribution point that has the prestage content configuration, does not
receive content from the site server.
My question is: Once I have prestaged my content onto the Pull DP can I remove the checkbox that enables the Pull DP for Prestaged Content and have the Pull DP revert back to pulling packages from its designated source DPs?
In other words, once a Pull DP is selected for Prestaged Content, and the prestaged content has been distributed, can the Pull DP's configuration be reversed by unchecking the Allow Prestaged Content checkbox? Does this allow the Pull DP to return to normal
Pull DP activities by pulling packages over the network from its Source DPs?
Thanks!
Grant

Thank you Torsten. One quick follow-on question:
I've read this in the docs as well:
When the distribution point is configured as a pull-distribution point, do not enable the distribution
point for prestaged content. The
prestage content configuration for a distribution point overrides the pull-distribution point configuration. A pull-distribution point that is configured
for prestaged content does not pull content from source distribution point and does not receive content from the site server.
Just wanted to be sure that this also means that if we deploy a large number of Pull DPs, and then check the box to allow Prestaged content, then import our content, then uncheck the box enabling Prestaged Content that the Pull DPs will go back to acting
normally and pulling from their Source DPs.
Thanks again,
Grant

  • Error while Creating Prestage Content File for Application in SCCM 2012

    Hi All,
I am using SCCM 2012 SP1 on Win 2K8 SP R2 box. Database is SQL 2008 R2 SP1 CU6. I have trying to create Prestaged content for Applications for extracting pkgx files on DP's. I am getting the below error message for random applications(not for all applications
    but for random applications).
Content that will be included into the prestaged content file (1):
    Citrix Receiver 13.3.0.55
    Export all dependencies: 'Yes'
    Selected distribution points: 'MPSERVER.GS.WORLD.PRESS.COM'
Prestaged content file: 'G:\pkgxfiles\Application\Citrix Receiver 13.3.0.55.pkgx'
Error: Distribution is currently in progress for selected packages: HM0000D9. Please wait and try again
But if I see this application is successfully distributed to 2 of the distributions points long ago. If I reupdate the Distribution point and then again try to create prestaged content for this application then pkgx file for that application is getting
    created.
Why this is happening and how can I resolve this?
    Thanks & Regards Uttam

  • Prestage content no longer working after SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 update

    I run SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 on a Windows 2008 R2 server.
I upgraded to CU1 in June, and today is the first time I've attempted to pre-stage a package since then.  After pre-staging my package and getting the content out to the target DP, I went to properties of the DP, checked the box "Enable this
distribution point for prestage content", then hit Ok.
Next I went to distribute the content to the DP, however after going thru the wizard, nothing changes.  There is no pending status, waiting on prestage content, that I had seen in the past when doing this task.  I can go in and run the wizard
again, and the target DP shows up in the list, like I'd never initiated the push before.
    Normal (non-prestaged) distributions work fine.
In troubleshooting this, I also noticed that I looking at the site status of the target DP, there are no status message entries for since I upgraded to CU1 (for that matter, none of my DP's have any entries since CU1).  I did see a similar issue like
    this in the forums
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/9491c2b1-37e6-46e3-9bb0-c5d673490d8a/component-status-not-updating-since-upgrade-from-sccm2012-sp1-cu3-to-sccm2012-r2?forum=configmanagergeneral but I don't have a backed up stat.mgr\retry inbox, it's empty.
I think this is related to why I can no longer prestage content, but I can't seem to find a reason for it.  The fixes for R2 CU2 don't mention my issue here either
    Anyone else seeing this?

  • Problem with option: enable this distribution point for prestaged content

Hi, for past few days I have been focused on application deployment with SCCM 2012 R2 (I am learning SCCM 2012 R2 reading books, watching video trainings . . .). Having followed allong book Mastering System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager I also did
deployment of Microsoft Office 2013, Adobe Reader 11, Foxit Reader 4.2 and Notepad ++ to test collection containing one Windows 7 computer. In one of examples prestaged content file is created for Foxit Reader application. In order to do so, if I am
right, option Enable this distribution point for prestaged content
has to be checked on distribution point and I did that.
Problem is that I noticed deployment of any application to test collection failed every time - system waits for prestaged content file if this option is selected. Then I have to delete deployment of given application, application itself, deselect option
Enable this distribution point for prestaged content and create app, distribute it to DP and deploy to test collection - then everything works well.
To make things worse, having deselect option Enable this distribution point for prestaged content (I did it yesterday and I checked that several times) this morning I checked again and this option is selected again. What might be the cause
of this behaviour? I expected this option to be deselected - this is weird to say at least.

When you enable the option "Enable this distribution
point for prestaged content" on a DP, it causes newly created applications/packages to default to "Manually copy the content in this package to the distribution point"... This would then cause the deployments on the clients to remain
at 'waiting for content' - unless if you manually prestage the content, as this option requires it.
If you enable the option "Enable this distribution
point for prestaged content" on the DP, but want to automatically have CM distribute the content, then configure the app/package to do so,
before distributing the content: Distribution Settings tab > Prestaged distribution point settings > Automatically download content when packages are assign to distribution points.

  • Prestage Content from SCCM2007 PCK files

    Hi everybody,
I am in a migration scenario from SCCM 2007 to 2012.
I have a full infrascructure with 2007, and saved pck-files from a backup of an old 2007 Server in Asia
Additional, I have a 2012 Infrastructure with a Primary Site in Germany an a secondary server in Asia.
I have a lot of packages migrated to 2012. Now, the transfer of the binaries is scheduled as next task.
Is there a possibility to prestage 2007 pck files to the 2012 secondary site content library from the pck file backup in asia?
So, it is not necessary to transfer the whole binaries over the slow wan link from germany to asia (source files are existing in germany).
For your information, there is a shared dp in another asia country in the 2012 infrastructure available, but still not migrated.
So, I cannot use this dp as a source for creating the prestage content file, right?
Is there anybody with an idea?
    thanks for your help
    best regards
    Marius

thank you everybody for your fast help.
I discussed the problem with the customer last days.
We will migrate an old, shared 2007 Secondary site Server to a 2012 Distribution Point.
So, the packages are converted. Then, we will use this Server, closer to the Destination Server to Transfer the packagages to the destination.
I agree with you, the 'FedEx' solution will be the best way to ensure the packages will transfered with the best traffic optimazation.
So, the thread is closed for me :-)

  • Prestaged Content and new Content Versions

I have a question concerning prestaged content in an SCCM 2012 R2 Environment. I have created several prestaged content files of some very large Applikations and Software Update Packages. In the meanwhile some of the Software Update Packages
have a new Content Version, because some expired Updates where removed from the Package.
So, if I now extract those Update Packages on a Distribution Point, the Content is not getting registrated as successfully distributed in the Content Monitoring Workspace, because the Content Version has increased in the meantime. I can
see that after Content is extracted successfully, the success Status Message is send to the Site Server, but the status stays on waiting for prestaged content.
I can’t sent a new USB Stick with the newer Version of those files to those offices and I can’t send the whole new Package via WAN to those office. I there a way to only create something like a delta prestaged content file or send only
the delta via WAN to those distribution point ?

    See scenario #3 here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrdogs/archive/2015/03/11/different-scenarios-for-using-prestaged-content.aspx

  • Enable PreStaged content on a distribution point.

I would like to enable Prestaged content on two current distribution points that already have content on them.  I am assuming after I enable them I will still be able to use the option to Automatically download content to the distribution without presaging
it?  (When a distribution point is not configured for prestaged content the content is automatically set to download when the package is assigned to a distribution point?)
Also if I have some packages that are set to Manually copy content do a distribution point (I don't know why this was set since our distribution points were not enabled for prestaged content yet)  will they still work?
Is there a way to query for packages that have the distribution settings set to Manually copy?

So essentially if "Enable this distribution point for prestaged content."
is not selected on a distribution point, the content behavior for all packages is "Automatically download content when packages are assigned to distribution
    points"?
If "Enable this distribution point for prestaged content."
is selected on a distribution point, and the distribution settings for a package is set to "Download only content changes to the distribution point".  Does
the first time the package get deployed it need to be prestaged or will it fully copy the content the first time and then just update the changes?
My distribution points are not really network resource constrained but I would like to be able update images and software update packages with just updated content.  I won't necessarily ever need to prestage content.

  • Locked SCCM Client Package waiting for prestaged content, Cant use Client Push

    Hi there,
I am having an issue with client push. When initiated the client is unable to find the client install package on the DP. The CCMSETUP log file on the client  reads "MP xxxxx.xxx.com didnt return DP locations for client package with the expected
version". This could be caused by a boundry issue but the boundry information is set up correctly, and published into AD.
The SCCM Client on the site server is not getting replicated properly to the DP's that we have setup and I think that this is causing the issue. The reason why its not gettiog to the DP is due to this error: "Distribution Manager is waiting for Package SG100001
content to be prestaged on the distribution point" when we look at the content status of the SCCM client Package.
We are unable to change the prestaged distribution point settings "automatic" as the package is the locked as its the SCCM client installation package and its waiting for us to prestage it on the DP. I have tried prestaging it, but it didnt
    work
Any ideas as I have been stuck for two days on this now...
    Thanks in advanced.
    George

Torsten you were right, The solution was as follows for anyone else having the same issue.
As soon as you create a DP it appears that the client installation package automatically tries to distribute to the DP. If you created the DP as "Enabled for Prestage" while doing the setup then the SCCM client package will just wait for you to
copy it manually. To reslove this I had to remove the "Enabled for Prestage Content" from the DP then go into the SCCM client Package, content location tab, select the DP and redistribute the package to the DP.
Checking the Distribution Manager and PkgXferMgr.log assisted me in monitoring the content transfer to the new location.
    Thanks for your assistance.
    George
George, I too concur that this fixed the issue.
I had the same problem with my SCCM 2012 R2 CU4, where i updated the distribution point for the Configuration Manager Client Package. Thanks a million!

  • OSD: "waiting for prestaged content"

    Hi,
We have 2 distribution points: the SCCM-server itself (DP1) and another windows 2008 server (DP2).
None of both have "Enable this distribution point for prestaged content" enabled.
Now when we check the content status, we see some packages are on status "In progress" and the message is "Distribution Manager is waiting for package xxx content to be prestated on the distributin point DP2 .... You must manually prestage the
    package ....
Distribution Point Configuration status shows 5 packages "Waiting for prestaged content".
We do not need this prestaged content on DP1 or DP2, please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

Enabling the prestaging option on a DP will tell the DP to not receive content automatically. It is waiting until an administrator copied *.pkgx files manually to it and registers them using extractcontent.exe. That might be useful for DPs at the end of
    very small WAN links.
I've never seen that happening without the option being enabled though.

  • Issues distributing large content to pull DPs

I am having issues trying to distribute big files to PULL DPs.  All other packages are going through fine.  But when I try to ditribute wim files over 4Gb, they never start downloading.  The pull site shows a bits.tmp stub file the size of
the actual file.  The dataTransferService.log shows ErrorCode 0x80004005.
I initially thought it might be because my pull dp is running on a win2k3 server (using iis 6), but I tried distributing to a test windows 7 pull dp setup and got the same result.  WAIK tools for win7 has been installed on the pullDP and its proper
DLLs are in the system32 folder.
I have been able to distribute wim file of roughly 3.7Gb and lower but nothing over that to pull DPs.  If I make these regular DPs instead of pull DPs, everyone works fine.  This and the fact that all other packages are working fine tells me permissions
and boundaries are not the issue.  WebDav authoring rule is set to allow read to all content to all users as well.
My site server is running SCCM 2012 R2 with CU1 running on win2008 R2 (so iis 7.5) and I updated the client on my pull DP as well.
Bitsadmin does not give me much more to work on.  State: Transient_error with no progress on byte count.  error code : 0x80004005 Unspecified error and error context: 0x00000005 the error occurred while the remote file was being processed.
I have also modified the applicationHost.config file to allow all types of file extentions in the requestFiltering section, on the remote chance this was blocking somehow.  This type of issue seems to creep up sometime during the transfer, not before.
One other test I made was to distribute iso files as packages instead of wim files under operating system images.  I had the same results with large iso files as I did with wim files.
Things seem to point at some weird type of 4Gb package limit for a pull DP.  Either an issue with settings on my site server or with the CCM client itself.
I am running out of ideas and was wondering if anyone has had this issue and has resolved it.

This is a known issue for SCCM 2012. A official fix will be released in the near future. If you want to test instantly, contact CSS to open a case to get a test fix.
There is a KB for this issue (English not available currently)

  • DP content source location not written to database - Invalid path \\server\share format needed - 80070002

Hi All, i just wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced this issue yet?
We have ~200 Pull DP's and for some time have been having issues with OSD Task Sequences randomly failing with the error 80070002.
    More specifically:
    Invalid path. \\server\share format needed
Failed to find an available source location
Our Task sequence is configured to access content directly from the DP.  We checked the PackageShare$ and validation state and both were fine.  Next we inspected WMI (root\sccmdp:SMS_PackagesInContLib) and this was fine as well.  Until today,
we had been redistributing the failing package to remediate, but this is very time consuming with some of the large WIMs and Driver Packages, especially over some very slow WAN links.
Today I decided to explore this a little further by examining the Database..This led me to the table ContentDPMap and the two columns in particular 'URL' and 'URLSubPath'.
I noticed that the packages we were having issues with had a URL of the ServerName in UNC format, and a URLSubPath of just '\'.  Other packages had a fully qualified UNC path to the package for URL and a full sub path for URLSubPath.
When we queried the DB further, we revealed 1190 packages to be in this state (for packages supposed to be in the share) out of a total of 42,000 records.
The query we used for this was:
select ContentID,ServerName,AccessType,URL,URLSubPath,URLProtocol, vpkg.Name from ContentDPMap as cdpm
    join v_Package as vpkg on vpkg.PackageID = cdpm.ContentID
    where cdpm.AccessType = 2 --UNCProtocol
and cdpm.URLSubPath not like '%SMS%' --Packages with issues only have a '\'
and vpkg.PkgFlags = (vpkg.PkgFlags | 0x80) --Limit to only show packages with the 'Copy To Package Share' flag set
Also of note, when a package is marked with a State = 2 the values for URL/URLSubPath are NULL. (State =2 is In Progress).
    So my question:
Firstly, has anyone else encountered this?
Secondly - how should I fix it - we tested in our DEV and found that updating the entries remediates the issue with Clients not being able to locate content, but realise this is is an unsupported method.
I will also log this on Connect as it appears to me to be a Bug.
    Cheers,
    David

  • DSC Pull Server functional description

I am trying to find a functional description of how a DSC Pull Server fits into the model.
My understanding is that if I place a Custom Resource Module in the \WindowsPowerShell\Modules folder of the DSC Pull Server and I use Import-DscModule in the configuration that the file will be downloaded to the client auto-magically and used.
But what I am not clear on is MSI and EXE files with the Package Provider.
Do I place those some place onto he Pull Server and they magically get downloaded?
Do I need to define in the configuration that they need to be explicitly downloaded and placed in a particular path?
If so, is there some path they should exit in on the client (expected location)?
I am just trying to wrap my head around dealing with DSC and 3rd party software and the Pull Server model.
    Thanks!

    Hi BrianEh,
Based on my research, to add content in Pull server, we need to Package each custom resource into its own ZIP file and copy it to Folder location (e.g $env:PROGRAMFILES\WindowsPowerShell\DscService\Modules),  which has been defined during the Pull
server configuration, and also need to create a checksum file for each of the above ZIP files.
After configure the pull server and the DSC client, with patiently minutes the configuration should be downloaded to your client, however, you can also force this with powershell script.

  • Expanded Content? Database or html?

I have a list of products that need content.
Basically this extended information needs to display details
    that can't
be listed with regular product details, it's just too much.
My dilemma is that I can't decide whether to post it to the
    web in
individual html files or to post it to a database where that
    content is
pulled out. I visited a larger company recently that has
    roughly 70,000
products and 3 web people to create individual pages for
    expanded
product information. I only have 4500 products and it's just
    me doing
    the work.
Are these really the only two options or are there others?
    XML?
The problem is that this content needs formatting and I've
    heard that
it's not the best practice to put html into a database.
I'm just curious what others are doing.

You don't necessarily put the who HTML page into the
    database, you only put
the necessary HTML tags in with it.
So maybe you have something like this:
    tblProduct
    title
    picture
    description
"title" would get outputted maybe into an <h1> block on
    your 'master' page.
The "picture" a link that is put into an <img> tag.
"description" would be the main text with some tags, as
    needed... maybe
    like:
    <p>The <strong>XYZ Widgets</strong> are
    made from durable cat hair.</p>
    See??

  • Mx.controls.SWFLoader removes content from displaylist when resizing?

    Hi!
    I'm a Flex noob but AS3 old-timer.
I have a Flex app that loads in AS3 apps using SWFLoader - problem is that when the Flex app is resized the SWFLoader seems to take the loaded content off display list temporarily, the loaded AS3 apps are dependant on stage object and it will break them when stage comes unavailable.
Is is possible to fix this in mx.controls.SWFLoader somehow?
If not, how can I use flash.display.Loader instead?

Loader is a low-level control and can’t be used directly in Flex containers.  I don’t think it is expected behavior that the SWFLoader gets removed from the stage, so I would want to know why and see if there is some simple setting that can prevent it.

    Regards,

    Hi,
The SMS_DP$ share is used to host the distribution point log files, the files used to validate content, prestage content and is also to store a temporary copy of the package before it is integrated into the Content Library. By reading the PkgXferMgr.log
you can easily see the process.
