Pretty simple question regarding headphones.

Hey everybody. I want one of the new shuffles as a secondary iPod, however, I just got a new pair of Bose in-ears and there's no way I'm letting them go to waste. I guess I have a few simple questions anyone who already has a new shuffle can easily answer:
1. Does playback immediately start upon switching the switch to either shuffle or straight through? and
2. Can you plug in the apple headphones, adjust the volume to an acceptable level, select a playlist, etc., then switch out to third party headphones to listen?
As for an adapter, there's no way I'm spending money on accessories for an $80 mp3 player. Sorry Apple...

Yes
Basically, when you unplug the apple headphones, or even turn it off after you've set what you want it'll keep your 'settings' but stop playing.
When you plug in your own headphones, you just need to switch it off and on again to continue playing where you left off.
Awkward, but possible. Btw, the new shuffle audio quality and playlist handling is definitely an improvement over the 2nd gen shuffle. Basically the player is better all round.
It's just the lack of a headphone adapter that lets it down.

I have some preliminary questions regarding the Xcode (objective C):
What is the difference between the programming files followed by .h and .m?
What does an asterisk * followed by a text mean (i.e. *window;)?
Is there any source that briefly explains the most common codes with examples (nsstring, nsarray, iboutlet, inaction.....etc)?
Any other tips will be highly appreciated.

Xcode is the IDE.
Objective-C is the most common language used within Xcode.
UIWindow *window ..... the * means return the address of the instance variable 'window'.
An * is called a pointer to a variable.

Need help! (Simple question regarding Soundblaster Wireless Music)(I ho

Hey everyone, this might be a bit of a dumb n00b question but I'm having a problem with my soundblaster wireless music.
The problem is that it won't shuffle any tracks.
I have createdplaylists, populated them all very easily, but it will only play one track from each one. I have to select every single track it I want it to play manually on the remote. Using the 'Mode' button on the remote about all I can get it to do is repeat the same track over and over again.
The only way i've been able to get it to shuffle is by loading a bunch of tracks into the "Now Playing" secton of the console but that seems a little tedius and kind of what i created the playlists for in the firstplace.
Is this the way the software is supposed to function or am I missing something so simple that it will make me look dumb...

When trying to play your play list with the remote are you going into the playlist before hitting play? You need to hit play at the playlist list level, not once you'e gone into a given playlist where the songs of the playlist are listed.

A simple question regarding c:out and ADF

I have a small problem which I can't figure out :-(
The solution is probably dead easy, but I don't see it ..
The problem is :
I have a jsp-file which have the following tags :
<c:out value="${bindings.EstimatedInterest}" />
<c:out value="${bindings.RemainingAmount}" />
And I want to have one more field which just adds these two together.
But I get this error :
Attempt to coerce a value of type "oracle.jbo.uicli.binding.JUCtrlAttrsBinding" to type "java.lang.Long" (null)
Can anyone pls point me in the right direction ?

A simple question regarding flash output from Encore

My primary question is how exactly is the html file that is playhed by the browser created in Encore? I have tired this and I am simply unable to located the html file as seen in the tutorials on this subject. I see that these tutorials have templates which I don't see when I select the flash output. Do I need these to crreate a simple flash file that is playable on a website? Where to the templates come from? This is not explained in the tutorials.
Is the index.html file created automatically when Flash output is selected as the format? Maybe I am doing something wrong but I have never found them?
Please help as I am having to go through a two step process to create the requied index.html and embeded player from which the SWF is played.on a site. I am only interested in creating progressively encoded web site playable files from Encore. Please help!.

Encore creates the HTML file when you export to Flash - it's in the folder named on export, along with all the other files you'll need.

Seemingly simple question regarding safe areas

I can't seem to find a simple fix to this anywhere, though it seems to me like
there should be one.
When I shoot, I compose my shots in camera so that they look the same when played on a TV. Because of the nature of television, some portion is always cut off.
Is there an easy way to size the image down to fit the title safe grid so the entire IMAGE is safe on screen?
Please help me I am freaking out!

The use of safe areas is that happy medium.
Because I'm in a verbose mood, let's talk about movies for just a second. If you've ever had the chance to look at a strip of 35mm film, you'll notice that the exposed area isn't actually the same shape as a movie screen. Theatrical features are shown in a variety of aspect ratios, but they're almost always of a shape that's wider than a 35mm frame. Many movies are shot "full frame," meaning the whole 35mm film area is exposed when the camera rolls. Some of these movies are "soft-matted" in the projector at your local cinema; the film print actually has the whole exposed image on it, but it's projected through a rectangular plate that obscures the top and bottom.

Because you're showing the film through a little piece of metal with a hole cut in it, +no two projections of the same soft-matted spherical-lensed film will ever be framed exactly the same way.+
Not only that, but next time you go to the movies, look really closely at the edges of the screen. Odds are you'll see that the projected image actually spills over slightly, by up to a foot or so. Between soft matting and differences in projection, the extreme edges of a motion-picture frame are basically a no-man's-land. Anything right at the edge of the image is not guaranteed to be visible on the screen.
TV works the same way. Different sets handle overscan different ways. The solution — that happy medium you asked for — is to compose your shots with a "safe area" in mind. As noted above, a lot of cameras will show you safe-area guides right in the viewfinder; use them.
But the dirty little secret is that there are actually two "safe areas." There's "action safe," which is that area of the frame in which you can reasonably expect your audience to see +stuff happening.+ And then there's "title safe," which is the area of the frame which you can reasonably expect won't butt right up against the edge of the screen. That's why when you turn on safe areas in Final Cut, for example, you see two rectangles. The outer one is action safe; the inner one is title safe. On-screen titles, as the name implies, should always be kept entirely inside the title-safe area.
If you have any experience with print at all, consider the area outside action safe to be your "bleed." It's there to ensure that the image extends all the way to the edge of the screen, but you can never be sure precisely where the edge is going to fall.
In this particular case, maybe you should go back and look at your show while asking yourself if it really matters all that much whether what you see on the TV is precisely what you tried to film. Losing a little bit on the sides might offend your artistic sensibilities — that's not sarcasm; we're all here because we have artistic sensibilities — but it really might not make that much difference.

Simple question: Recessed headphone jack in iPod Touch?

I know that the 3G iPhone no longer has the recessed headphone jack so we can use any headphones we'd like to. Do the current iPod touches have recessed headphone jacks?

No. Ipod touch's phone jack is not recessed like iphone 2G.
you can use your Shure or Bose headphones on the ipod touch.

Simple question regarding the loop browser

Unless the loop is in a time different from 4/4
shouldnt every loop ( orchestral etc etc ) that is dragged over the loop browser be
incorporated into the loop browser and if the loops name is typed in should appear
in the browser?

No, by default you are only shown loops that are within 2 semitones of your song's key (and drum loops of course which have no key). There's an option in the prefs that you can uncheck to see all loops in your song's time signature (look for "keyword browsing").

Pretty simple question ... how do I arrange songs in a particular order?

I've done this before, but somehow it's not working.
Have a playlist with a dozen or so songs I imported off a CD. The songs didn't show up in the playlist in the order they are on the CD. Simply want to arrange them in the same order.
Tried to drag them, but that doesn't work. How can I arrange the songs in a particular order?

You can change the track numbers.
Or if the songs are in a playlist, click the very first column header and turn off Shuffle for that playlist then you can drag the songs up/down as you want.

Simple Questions regarding temperatures for MacBook Pro

I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro Mid-2012 2.9 Ghz, i7 Processor, 8 GB of ram, and 750 HDD. It's my first Mac I've bought I'm switching over from an overheating windows laptop.
Now my Mac gets extremely hot under light usage. First thing I did is get iStat to measure temperature. I also went into an Apple Store to get diagnostics done to make sure all hardware, sensors, everything is working and that test passed. Although I realized my Macbook never goes down 100F. Is that normal? All I have open is safari, finder, and maybe a few other apps. I've checked activity monitor and don't see nothing to high. So is 100F normal?
Another issue I have is with Chrome. I used Google Chrome a lot on my windows and I want to on my MacBook too, although when using chrome it gets very hot and very high temperatures such as 170-190F. I've stopped using chrome and use safari, and now I'm at 120F. Why does Chrome do that, is there a fix?
Also, when watching youtube videos using flash I also get very high temperatures such as 150-170F.
So are these temperatures normal? What temperature should my MacBook Pro be at? And what are good temperatures to keep my MacBook Pro at, meaning not exceeding it.
I'd love any opinions and helpful responses.

Yeah I know there isn't a normal temperature but I meant an ideal temperature to keep it running at, which you did answer to thanks.
But here's the deal, I only have been web browsing so far not even mail, and I never go beneath 115F. Especially when using Chrome, my CPU get's used a lot and I reach unto 170F when using chrome, but on safari I can go down to 125F for web browsing only. As we speak I'm on 128F.
Is there anything wrong?
(I forgot to add that when I took it into an Apple Store, one of the geniuses told me not to use chrome as its eating up CPU and heating my MacBook and told me to use Safari, if I wanted to run my MacBook cooler)

Simple question regarding HD video

If a movie is to be watched on a standard TV, are there any advantages of shooting in HD? What I'm saying is, can I shoot in HD 16X9 and then edit in HD 4X3?

You can capture and edit HD, then compress to a DVD that will play properly on a standard TV (letterboxed) or a widescreen TV (fullscreen).
The kind of HD camera you use will determine your hardware requirements to achieve this. You may be better off having the HD footage downconverted to Digibeta and working in SD if your final result will be an SD DVD.

Audigy 4 and Reciever/Amp simple question

Despite inundating myself with what is probably TOO much information from the knowledge base and forum, I could really do with an answer to what is essentially a pretty simple question....
I recently got an Audigy 4 sound card and external io hub. Lovely bit of kit. Very nice. I only really use it to watch the odd dvd and listen to music with WMP9.
I have a Sony multi-channel receiver/amp with 5. speakers attached.
The amp has multiple digital connections - all either optical or co-axial. (and individual 5. analogue too)
These currently accept optical links from my dvd player and xbox. Lovely.
So, I would prefer to use the digital connections (nice and easy cable approach as with xbox) but I think I'll only get 2 channels when I play dvd... So what is the best way to connect the two....

The thing about that kind of digital connection is that involves compressing 5. channels into the space of 2, using proprietary encodings. This makes sense in terms of storage space savings (i.e. more room on that DVD for special features), or if bandwidth is constrained (i.e. broadcast TV can fit 5. into the space originally designed for stereo), but the only way it makes any kind of sense for getting audio a few feet from the soundcard to a receiver or speaker system is because nothing more direct ends up being available. The result is that your xbox needs a high-powered chip to make something very (and unnecessarily) complex seem simple. Your Audigy does not have that; it does not have the ability to make that kind of 5. audio for your receiver to then decode.
Your Audigy does, in fact, have the ability to output 5. digitally, in the digital space that 6 full-range channels need, using a single cable; but your receiver, like virtually all of such, doesn't accept it. CL digital speaker systems have a "Digital DIN" input which uses it, but your receiver does not have a "Digital DIN" input, nor any equivalent of that. Even if it did, there's still a problem, because it's muted for DVD-Audio's higher-resolution formats, purely as an effort to prevent consumers access to high-resolution digital audio signals that are not encoded, for copy-protection reasons.
Because DVD 5. soundtracks are pre-encoded on the DVD, you don't need the Audigy to be able to encode. All that is needed is to get the soundtrack from the DVD to your receiver as is. The Audigy can do that. As the other post indicates, the keys are to tell the DVD player software to output digital, and to tell the Audigy not to decode.
Under the covers, that actually uses the Audigy as a 2-channel soundcard, and the rest of its channels are "wasted." None of its real multichannel capabilities can actually be used with a "digital" connection like that. However, if all you do is watch DVD's and listen to stereo audio files, especially if your receiver has features to simulate full surround from stereo, you may not care.
Personally, my strong preference is for the multichannel analog hookup, although I might set up both types so I could compare the sound of the receiver's decoding with the Audigy's decoding.
Things you can't do when using an external decoder hookup:
. Use the soundcard to adjust volume while listening to DD/DTS multichannel soundtracks (though it's best to use the receiver to adjust volume all the time, actually).
2. Hear any other sound sources while listening to DD/DTS multichannel soundtracks.
3. Get multichannel audio from PC games.
4. Get multichannel upmixing using CL's CMSS feature.

1) You can always do your own session handling. But why bother when there is one there for you?
2) The issue with sessions is how to identify the user from the request. Each session gets given a session id. The user has to send that session id with every request they make.
The standard way is to use a session cookie, which only lasts as long as the browser session. The cookie with the JSESSIONID is sent with every request, thus the server can identify which session a user is in from their cookie.
Of course you cannot assume that the browser will support cookies, so you need to encode all URLs with the method response.encodeURL(). That method puts the session id into the URL if the browser does not support cookies, or they have them switched off.

Simple question - How to find date

I have a simple question on date. Suppose today is Jan 4, 2010. I have to find out Jan 1, 2007 using Java code.
I have used following code. This code will work for 2010 and 2011 properly. However it won't work properly after Feb 28, 2012. Please see "dayInMillis*1096 " portion of code. Here 365365366 = 1096.
How I can avoid this hard coding. Do we have any simple way to get Jan 1, 2007 even without using following code.
